Pokémon Omega Ruby & Pokémon Alpha Sapphire Confirmed For Worldwide 3DS Launch in November

Posted by Thomas Whitehead

"A dramatic story within a spectacular new world"

Last year's arrival of Pokémon X & Y on the 3DS brought the hugely successful franchise to a new generation of hardware, but Nintendo and The Pokémon Company is wasting no time in bringing more titles to the system. A sudden press release has announced Pokémon Omega Ruby & Pokémon Alpha Sapphire, exclusive to 3DS and 2DS and with a worldwide arrival in November this year.

Described as a "fresh take" on Pokémon Ruby & Sapphire from the Game Boy Advance, the following is promised in terms of delivering a new adventure.

Pokémon Omega Ruby and Pokémon Alpha Sapphire are a fresh take on Pokémon Ruby and Pokémon Sapphire, which launched in 2003 and were fan-favourite hits on the Game Boy Advance system. The new titles promise to take players through a dramatic story within a spectacular new world.

A teaser trailer has also been released, below. So, just how hyped are you about this news?

This is another one of those days where we're getting a handful of Nintendo news without a Direct.

This is also the first time where you'll be able to transfer the Pokemon you caught from the original version of a game to its remake version (not directly, it will take multiple transfers from gen to gen).

Hunter-D said:

Oh my gosh! Gen 3 was my entrance into the Pokemon world (outside of the anime).

I'm happy alright!

Theober555 said:

If they can afford to announce this before E3, they must have a spectacular show planned!
But otherwise... HYPE FOR THIS!! I need November now!
I'll be getting both versions as always

Bulbousaur said:

Sounds like its not a straight remake of Ruby and Sapphire, maybe they'll redesign the Hoenn region to not have so much surfing which will be greatly appreciated. Bit unusual that we basically know nothing at the moment, since main series Pokemon games have a big first reveal most of the time, guess we'll have to wait until E3. (Maybe they just threw this trailer together to try and draw attention away to the poor financial annoucements)

I'll be pre-ordering Omega Ruby as soon as the Amazon page for it comes up.

SkywardLink98 said:

I'm a little disappointed all we got was the name and box art really, but I still feel the need to dance crazily in a blur of emotions consisting of happiness, joy, confusion, and excitement.

xerneas said:

I AM CRYING AAAAAAAH! Interesting that it won't be a straight remake tho. Hoping to hear more at E3 at least!!!

Jazzer94 said:

Finally my favorite gen is being remade getting Pokémon Alpha Sapphire just because I love Kyogre.

Peach64 said:

Not really interested, but makes sense as the need a big game for holiday and a remake is quicker. I expect Majora's Mask 3D to get announced at E3 too.

ShanaUnite said:

A fresh take on a classic is it? Now i am slightly curious. I will probably lose interest if it is too similar to the originals though.

Jazzer94 said:

Guessing Mega Latios and Mega Latias will be distributed around November then.

sinalefa said:

Too bad there is not even a gameplay pic, but logic would say it will look similar to X/Y as opposed to the old games. So is this coming in colored boxes?

Tobias95 said:

Maybe its a new story taking place in an changed Hoen after the events in pokemon emerald?

Gotta love Nintendo's last minute reveals, I get much more hyped when games come out of no where and soon to be released .

Christoff said:

So their financial results are published, doom and gloom ensues, then they drop this bomb and it reminds us why you cannot rule out Nintendo....they keep making em and i'll keep buying them

0utburst said:

I've never played a Pokemon game. I was thinking of getting X or Y later to try it out. And then this? Gah I'll just not play one.

Good news for Pokemon fans though.

Someone posted this on IGN comments section

...I don't want do look like one of those stupid genwunners, but..what did they do with their design!?
I can't really explain why, but those look horrible :/

Janfeae said:

Man Nintendo is dropping the surprises like crazy! I mean, I just learned about this on a totally unrelated site! I came here to verify, even though I was literally here 25 minutes ago, and BAM, new remake lol

Technosphile said:

Desperate times, eh, Iwata?

If this company had any sense (they don't) these would have been developed for iOS.

Arcamenel said:

I think those are mega evolutions possibly if not just redesigns. I think they look cool.

UltraLaserTen said:

Who knew so many people were looking forward to a remake? All we know is that the Hoenn region is getting a new makeover on 3DS right now, so I'm not really excited for it right now, but will keep a close ete on it. Lets hope it'll be the first oppertunuty we get at using that hassle free Pokemon transfering from Pokemon Bank, the guys at GameFreak were hoping it would last for generations to come, making transfering as easy as possible.

Meaty-cheeky said:

Way to soon, but I guess I understand why since Nintendo is desperate for money since Wii U sales are tanking!

rjejr said:

Well my kids keepng asking for red and green, hopefully this will make them happy. I think they played sapphire so maybe they can get the updated ruby now.

Maybe they'll pay the $5 for the bank now, they tried the demo but didn't see the point in paying. I dont think they ever have enough Pokemon in any game to need the extra space.

And I dont think they waited until E3 b/c last year X and Y announced in Jan or Feb w/ an Oct release, Pokemon people* know how to take a year to build up excitement. Expect to hear more about this on an almost weekly basis.

*I know Nintendo owns this, but only Pokmeon get big month long build ups w/ dates. SSB gets lots of build up w/o a date, and MK8 only got dated recently. They are doing a good job w/ MK8 now though.

Oh, and bonus points for the "alpha and omega" names.

Octane said:

Well, I have to buy a 3DS now, at least if it lives up to the original third generation..

larry_koopa said:

I'm surprised they're not releasing this on the Wii U Virtual Console... apparently releasing old games through that service is their big master plan for saving that system.

Edited by user: Seriously though, I'm not a Pokémon fan, but I am happy for everybody who's excited about this news and I hope they enjoy it this fall.

DreamyViridi said:

Oh, thank gods. Now everyone can shut up about the Gen 3 remakes because it's officially confirmed now. Not excited for it though, cut out some of that obnoxious amount of surfing and then we'll get somewhere.

Dizzard said:

Alpha Sapphire will be mine in November. Hoenn is my favourite region! (The thought of seeing it in 3D and with a day/night cycle....ahhh)

DragonbornRito said:

I think they're announcing this ahead of E3, so we won't explode from joy when they show us a gameplay trailer @ E3.

Honestly, until I see some interesting game footage from the Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, not excited.
Theres nothing worth getting excited about right now.

MoonKnight7 said:

Here's how I imagine the meeting went:

I'm gonna pimp my pokémon out & slap you with ma' Beauty Ribbon mofo!!

Ernest_The_Crab said:

@Tsurii897 The original designs for Kyogre and Groudon looked better. It has nothing to do with the gen 1 argument as they are not gen 1 anyways.

@Technosphile @DanteSolablood I'd be careful about talks of losses (unless they declared bankruptcy). Financial reporting is one of the easiest ways to manipulate results due to the amount of flexibility in treatments based on company policies and no clear guidelines for certain items. Not to mention, the numbers always have a good portion that lie in the realm of historical costs/estimates (like depreciation). Accounting is also not very consistent either. Some things like research/development costs need to be expensed immediately (except for VERY strict guildelines). Possible future losses also need to be expensed immediately though future gains are not allowed to be recognized at all.

Reading statements alone is NEVER enough information to get an idea of how a company is doing. You need the notes to the statements as well and the written report. However, most of these so-called "news" sites do not mention these aspects and prefer to spew propaganda for hits.

Wait why wasn't this announced at E3? Seems weird to announce it now, maybe we will see a focus on Wii U?

Technosphile said:

@Theober555 Wrong! They are reportedly down to about $7 1/2 billion. At the rate they have been losing money, that is enough to carry them through the next six years.

@DanteSolablood Sony is a huge company with money coming in (or out) from many different markets in consumer electronics. Nintendo has one business, and that business is failing. Miserably.

As bad as Sony has had it the last two years, the Playstation brand is healthy. The Nintendo brand is dying.

All of my hell yes! I don't need to see gameplay. It's a remake/sequel/whatever to the Pokemon Generation I spent the most time on. No chance in hell that I'm not getting this. Man, I'm gonna need some super deep pockets, this Holiday season.

NintyMan said:

Well, this is definitely unexpected. Looks like a lot of Pokemon fans were answered, except these don't sound like remakes at all but direct sequels of some kind. It should be cool! I might go for Alpha Sapphire.

DanteSolablood said:

@Technosphile While iIt's true that Sony has money coming in from various sources as well as the Playstation brand, Sony has been hemorrhaging cash for far longer than the last two years, Kazuo Hirai took over as CEO after Sony's FOURTH annual loss... and these are all losses are despite any money coming in from Playstation brand.

Taking into consideration that the TV side of the business has not made money in at least four years, they've exited the PC market leading to a massive drop in share price & loss of 5000 jobs and Sony hold little share in the phone market, it seems one bad year for the PS4 could wipe Sony out.

UGXwolf said:

@Meaty-cheeky Considering that I spent hundreds of hours on Gen 3 and played all three games and enjoyed them all, but can't even push myself to finish Pokemon Black version, I'd say that that's just your opinion. It's also like to point out that no one seems to agree with you, nostalgia or not. Besides, Pokemon art my age is nothing if not all about the nostalgia, so I'll be keeping my rose-tinted glasses on until such a time as I see fit to remove them. Thank you.

Alshain01 said:

I haven't finished Pokemon Y. I can't quite figure out how Nintendo has made a franchise where the only purposes is to do what RPG makers try to reduce and get rid of in their games.... GRIND.

I want to know if pokémon amie is staying, that's IMO the #1 addition to any pokémon game since red/blue and any pokémon game gets better by going "D'awwwwwwww! ^_^ " at a fictional creature.

DanteSolablood said:

@setezerocinco "Capa provisoria" means "temporary layer" in Spanish, it simply means that this probably isn't final box art. As for why it's in Spanish... the news may have broken on a Spanish gaming site first.

Does this mean Ruby and Sapphire will be done in the style of X and Y?

Definitely looking forward to this, but I wish they'd revisit Kanto again with the new engine.

Meaty-cheeky said:

@UGXwolf it's not just my opinion, I know many people that play Pokemon and most of them say Pokemon Ruby & Sapphire are the weakest of the series. Most of these people are Hardcore Pokemon players that I know that hangout at the Nintendo World Store in New York City were Pokemon tournaments are always going down.

Oh and people agree Gen 2 is the best by the way.

But sorry If I hurt your feeling's.

Parasky said:

@Technosphile In a way, I agree. Casual pokémon fans would be okay with a ios pokemon game. However it's suicide for their hardcore pokemon fans. Hey, I'm open to a ios pokemon game, plus a remake would make more sense as it wouldn't be a completely new experience. However I don't really like smartphone gaming in general.

Looking forward to these remakes anyway.

AVahne said:

*****@&$@#&?!@#!?@ YESSSSS!!!!!!
Ruby had the most hours I've ever clocked in a Pokemon game. Hell, I played it till the cartridge no longer booted up. I just hope they don't ruin the charming story by making it about Pokemon's rights or something.

luke88 said:

@Technosphile Sorry, your post written in bold "Nintendo have lost $4 billion in four years," were you quoting someone else there? It isn't true, according to forbes there total losses for the last three years were $1.18 billion. Sony is projecting a $1.1 billion loss for 2014 alone. Pretty sure they've lost vast sums for several years running now. I hope both companies can turn things around but you've got to say Sony's position, though for some reason less well publicised, is more dire.

On topic, I was kind of hoping against hope that gamefreak were working an a mainline pokemon game for wiiu, this makes that even less likely; which, in turn, makes me sad. Will get one of these anyway.

somari said:

Not many interesting games being released this year, but damn the two that have been announced have me super excited:

Plus the consistent information releases from SSB4 and the two for one offer for Mario Kart 8. I might actually have some games show up in my library.

AVahne said:

Nope, gen 3 still has my favorite story out of all the Pokemon games and is ranked after gen 2 for best Pokemon games in general for me.
Gen 4 and gen 5 were pretty terrible in comparison.

Andremario said:

It's too soon! I won't even be able to afford pokemon y until next month! Either way these games are gonna be awesome! I feel just like someone else stated earlier in the comments that these series of games comin' out fast like COD but nowhere near as crappy...far from it! Love me some pokemon!

Shambo said:

All right, given what they've given us already, the E3 hype is reaching critical heights. Nintendo, you better be able to live up to it!

C-Olimar said:

@Meaty-cheeky Absolutely no idea why hardcore players wouldn't like it when it actually introduced many of the mechanics that make competitive Pokemon what it is!

WashioYuji said:

wow people are excited here! I've never played this generation so I don't know the pokemon for this one.

DanteSolablood said:

@C-Olimar Indeed, a large amount of mechanics & pokémon used in competitive play actually originate in RSE. Plus let's face the facts, people always moan about not having enough to do after beating the Elite 4... RSE gave us Pokémon Contests, ribbon collecting, secret bases & data mixing. Maybe people just got complacent as RSE gave them what they wanted?

Ash_Anne said:

I had a friend text me this news while I was at work. I thought he was joking. I'm glad he wasn't because I never got to play Ruby and Sapphire.

Melkac said:

Worst teaser ever...kinda fitting, considering this is probably the worst gen in the entire series

They're promising a "dramatic new world" though, so I SERIOUSLY hope it's not just a lame remake. Make it a sequel or even a re-imagination of R/S/E.

Dark-Link73 said:

Please keep in mind I'm not a Pokémon fan when I say this but, I'm afraid Nintendo or the Pokémon Company (whomever is in charge of the video games) are going to run Pokémon to the ground like Activision is running CoD to the ground with yearly releases.

DanteSolablood said:

@Meaty-cheeky I can't fault you for your personal opinion, but just because the people you hang around with don't like RSE doesn't mean that everyone agrees with them. As for hardcore players, If it helps I play Pokémon competitively online, have a 100% complete Pokédex for every Gen (not including unreleased Diancie) and can't wait for the new game.. why is everyone else SO SLOW at these games?

Melkac said:

I honestly hate how it's being released only a year after X/Y, too...
Having said that, this is not another CoD situation. Both games are nothing alike.

Haxonberik said:

Seriously, Pokemon is the only franchise that releases game this fast and still somehow gets me excited every time! I might want to finish that Hoenn refresher Nuzlocke soon. Maybe I'll apreciate the new features more after it.

Starwolf_UK said:

Fresh take? Well something has to replace the Game Corner and Contests. Oh and I guess HM bloat. I assume they'll take the gen 5 and 6 idea of few HMs required overall (DPP were so bad in this respect which probably contributed to this) but if you do use HMs there are TMs and cool stuff to find.

Gen 3 had some neat ideas even if direction wise it felt a bit random at times.

Personally I probably won't bother with the game (one system so no way to trade and Pokemon bank requires NNID to download, can't get NNID as doing so means I lose download rights for eShop games not available outside of Pokemon bank can't trade items) and will get annihilated on battle spot thanks to the overpowered move tutors it adds (classic rule of competitive anything, add stuff that becomes metagame required in the next release it generates more sales). Ah well a fun ride while it lasted.

@Dark-Link73 Pokemon has been at the very least semi-annualised from the start. I've seen timelines posted which I can't recall. I think to make them annualized you have to count oddly (specific regions that sort of thing).

Tysamu said:

I'm going to be honest.

I have no reason to be excited. As much as i love pokemon, I'm getting increasingly annoyed that each remake has VERY LITTLE expansion beyond what's expected. X and Y pissed me off quite a bit despite not being a remake. I want more adventure, hell more myths and mysteries, more quests to accomplish, and new places to discover.

DanteSolablood said:

@Sinalefa Very true! I just ran that part through the translator too and it confirmed the Portugese, "capa provisoria" is likely to be shared between both languages. Apologies.. I am genuinely part Spanish Portugese, guess the Spanish part is a little stronger.

DanteSolablood said:

@Tysamu That's understandable, not many games have given us much to do after the main "story" and beating the Elite 4, which is personally why I am excited for the RSE remakes... because they were one of the best generations for giving us more to do, the Pokémon Contests were practically a whole new & fun gym system in themselves. I just hope that they don't REMOVE the Contests as Starwolf_UK suggests.

UGXwolf said:

@Meaty-cheeky Hurt feelings. Cute. What do you think I am? A fanboy? If I was willing to outright skip two generations, I'd hardly call myself a fanboy. Besides, what have I got to be butthurt over? I agree that Gen 2 is the best, too. I just spent more time playing Gen 3, and it didn't get boring, even though I can't seem to bring myself to even try to finish Poke'mon Black. On top of that, it's not like I've lost my touch, or anything, since I didn't seem to mind beating Poke'mon X and playing around with the Friend Safari for a bit.

Also, competitive community in general can kindly shut their pie-holes. I never agree with them, in the first place because most of them take gaming way too seriously to the point that it just stops being fun. But that's an argument for another time.

MysticX said:

@Melkac I'm no Nintendo-hater and i love Pokémon, but this has the scent of "Release a new pair of Pokémon games to boost sales figures", the timing of this press release is very convenient at least...

Still looking forward to it though

NintyMan said:

Well, I may still get Omega Ruby, but the problem is that I didn't play either Ruby or Sapphire back in the day. Hopefully these entries are good for newcomers.

chiefeagle02 said:

Hate to say it, but I'm getting burned out on new Pokemon games (like I got burned out on Mario after the umpteenth "New Super Mario Etc." release), so I think I'll skip this one. That being said, have fun to the rest of you!

theblackdragon said:

i must say the timing will certainly be opportune, Pokemon plus holiday season 2014 will certainly equal big $$$ for the big N no matter what's being released. i'm not interested in 'em myself, but for those who are, enjoy! :3

Sweet! Totally called this one! Now to go watch my friends cry tears of joy..

Bliquid said:

So this is why they put basically no endgame in X/Y.
Hope this time we non-competitive players get more meat.

Kaze_Memaryu said:

Oh god... why is this a good idea again? Unless there are some serious changes, additions, and improvements, I'm not gonna get one of these. I still have Sapphire and Emerald on GBA, and Y covers everything Gen VI, so remakes would suck - a whole lot.

@Poketendo Nope, just glowing brighter along the glow lines than usual.

AlbertoC said:

The cosmetic changes of the box-art legendaries might be:
a) Just a marketing / design decision,
b) Alternate forms for Groudon and Kyogre.
Take your pick.

Also, in Europe and Japan the boxes are red and blue. I miss the good days where the cartridges were all glittery, transparent or just colored. Perhaps the manufacturing process or the material used doesn't allow it. Perhaps they're not longer made like that just because corporate decissions / economic reasons. But it would be nice, nonetheless.

I had to pinch myself to make sure I wasn't dreaming. I had a feeling we'd be getting these at some point this gen, but I didn't think they'd be revealed so soon (I was almost positive we'd be getting no main game until 2015). Not only that, but I was hoping that they'd shake things up in these games with a more BW2 approach, and from the looks of things, that is indeed the case. This game is going to be big, I can feel it.

Dark-Link73 said:

@Starwolf_UK The series has seen annual releases since 2009 in the West (Jp missed 2011). Before that, the prior games were released every 2,2,1,2,1* (this year Europe saw two releases in one year to catch up to NA),1,1 years-basis so the series had mostly being released annually in the West. Japan is the one that has seen the most biannual releases.

I'm not even taking into account the spin-off versions nor the console versions.

DanteSolablood said:

@Interneto Yup, noticed that and apologised later on in a post - I didn't bother reading the entire box. With updates easily available for X and Y, they could easily add new Mega Evos (and maybe even Pokemon!) and update X and Y accordingly, since it's in the same gen. Perhaps we'll get the rest of the new Pokemon? 72 is a little on the short side, even with megas...

This is even worse than the yearly releases that are so looked down upon by people in this community so often. Its a remake even worse.

BSFsontails1012 said:

THANKYOU SOOOO MUCH NINTENDO!!!! I'm just crying tears of joy right now, my favorite region finally getting a remake!

ZenTurtle said:

"Gotta catch 'em all": Which I must add is now nigh-on impossible! Oh dear, the internet 's going to be full of rumours and 'predictions'

DanteSolablood said:

@unrandomsam This isn't strictly a yearly sequel, it's more of an add-on. Do you need to buy Omega Sapphire or Alpha Ruby to complete your pokédex? As far as we know right now... no. Plus it's hard to complain about a remake when we've been waiting 10 years.

@ZenTurtle Catching them all wasn't that hard... pretty easy thanks to the internet.

Fortified said:

Totally calling it that its a sequel and not a remake.
I mean, those have to be new formes right?
But still, very hyped.

MitchVogel said:

This seriously is out of left field. I love it. A few weeks before e3 and they're already dropping this?

ZenTurtle said:

What I really mean to say is that it is extremely difficult to catch them all in the current generation without the access to generation 3 cartridges (this solves it and HG/SS partially), two or more gen 4 carts (HG/SS and one of the Sinnoh games), a gen5 game, a 3ds and a ds with a gba slot. You also need an action replay device to activate the Pokémon events if you didn't go to a Pokémon event. So it is more than a little bit hard. By the internet I assume you mean gts or trading on forums- the people on gts offer unreasonable trades, and forums aren't usually much better...

DarkKirby said:

The new titles promise to take players through a dramatic story within a spectacular new world

I hope Game Freak actually lives up to this statement, because frankly, the only Pokemon game with a worse story then Ruby and Sapphire was Gold and Silver.

Let Gardevoir learn Quiver Dance please.

Revanmann said:

This makes me so happy. I don't understand why so many people get so angry over Ports/Remakes. I love them. Sapphire was my first Pokemon game. This will be a pre-order for sure.

HandheldGuru97 said:

Is this the real life!??!?!?!??!?!???!??!? Is this just fantasy??!?!?!?!??!?!?!? YUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Praise be the lord!!!!!!!!!!! I have waited so many many moons for this day to come...many. Sapphire holds a near and dear place in my heart as my 2nd Pokemon game (Christmas 2007, 1st was Diamond a month earlier). Still have the game to this day, sadly the time mechanics no longer work due to the death of the battery, just happy to have the save data still. I am beyond happy, thank you Nintendo, thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

_exalt said:

My mind is racing with things they should add and keep in the games but the things I want the most is better character customization, following pokemon, the battle frontier, new megas, and dlc (to add things like story expansions or new clothes)

DanteSolablood said:

@ZenTurtle Almost all RSE pokémon including Groudon & Kyogre are available from DS games forward, while it is true that online trades can seem unfair, there are bargains to be had... for example I managed to trade a UK Geodude for a Japanese Xerneas (Japanese guys seem to go mad for English language Geodudes & traded them for tonnes pre-transporter)... and then the Xerneas for Arceus. Plus I know plenty of people online from forums who helped out on my pokédex.

As for events, I have been to a good few local events where I've been able to chat to fans who have traded with me. While I don't like any form of cheating, you're quite likely to at least get a clone.

Ichiban said:

More Pokemon?! Good for the fans i guess, I think this is a terrible idea. People say Cod, assassins creed, etc are milked, yet they dont release 2 of same game on the same day every year.
Enjoy your rehashes folks

DanteSolablood said:

@Ichiban The difference is that CoD has released the same game every year with a couple of new maps & brushed up graphics. At least Pokémon try to innovate each year with vastly different functions and game mechanics.

JaxonH said:

Nintendo must have games out the yin-yang to be making annoucements this big so close to E3. Logic would dictate staying hush hush for 4 more weeks and then annoucing this to bolster the E3 presentation. But I guess Nintendo's just got it like that this year...

Henmii said:

If its in a new world, how can it be a remake?!

On a side-note: This and Pokken fighters? I hope E3 won't be a Pokemon extravaganza!!

ToonLink795 said:

Hmm this is pretty cool Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire back in action on 3DS. This might actually give me a reason to play Pokemon again as I loved the Hoenn region. I mostly stoped playing Pokemon about 3 to 4 years ago as it was pretty much the same thing over and over again. So overall I may end up getting the Omega Ruby game.

JaredJ said:

I would rather have this on Wii U but I guess Pokemon has always been a hand held series.

ZenTurtle said:

Ha! That's just Japan
My point is, it's getting ridiculously difficult (and expensive) to complete the pokedex. While it's good to include Groudon and Kyogre, they are but two of 729 Pokémon to catch. I've never been to a Pokémon event, but I suppose it is just personal experience...
On the subject of cheating, there is what I would call a higher form of cheating-unlocking the Pokémon events that have finished (or unreleased such as the Arceus event on platinum). I agree that cloning can be useful- Pokémon such as Eevee can be cloned if you're about to evolve it. It can be good for giving the better Pokémon to your friends.

Reverandjames said:

This is how Nintendo should announce games going forward. No one else is doing it and it seems to generate a lot of hype. Here's hoping for a few suprise Wii U announcements this year.

FilmerNgameR said:

Furk yeah! I've never played any of the Hoenn games now it's my chance to play in that region now in 3D! Hopefully it's better than X and Y they were too short. I wonder why they couldn't wait to E3 though this is too random. HL3 confirmed.

Manaphy2007 said:

now i can get the legends to y legit, well i did edit them to still be legit, i may end up getting both

SakuraHaruka said:

Oh my, my, my, my, my, my, my, my, my....
Ok, then, to wait for november, although, in my opinion, it is a bit early seeing that it's been a year since the X & Y versions hit the market.
Well, to wait.

Ralphi said:

Seriously, I can't wait, and to think it's going to be here in November?!?!

Technosphile said:

@midnafanboy Au contraire, mon frere..I do more to support Nintendo products than probably most of the drones here. Early Wii U buyer, on my 2nd 3DS, bought all the Rusty's Real Deal Baseball minigames, bought Mario Golf World Tour AND a season pass for it a few days ago, the list goes on.

But the writing is on the wall. The PS4 (which I don't own yet) is going to completely dominate this gen, while the Wii U will continue to be a gushing wound in Nintendo's side, should they be foolish enough to continue supporting it for long. This Pokemon announcement in particular just sort of reeks of panicky desperation; does anyone really expect these to be any more than marginally different from X or Y?

Zombie_Barioth said:

Compared to X/Y, no, compared to the originals, yes. Of course people were also expecting a "Gray" version, not direct sequels so who knows. Considering fans have been asking for these remakes I don't see it as panicky on their part, but you'd be a fool to assume the timing was coincidental.

Qeuix said:

@EpicMegaman64 I just did so right now played the Honnen gym theme with trumpets and it actually sounded really good. And yes some parts did sounds pretty funny. lol

Epicnessofme99 said:

I wonder what they mean by "A dramatic story in a spectacular new world" Because if this is a remake then it won't be a very new world, I guess maybe they're taking into consideration it'll look different because of the X&Y engine? Or will it actually be changed for some other reason?

MegaBeedrill said:

So those making speculations of a new game coming out that was never hinted or announced were right...

Guess this means..
I hope they are released for these new games! (despite the fact I already have em..)

Nonetheless.. I hope more effort is put into this than x/y. I felt X/Y focused TOO much on graphics rather than the design/movepools of the pokemon.. it seemed more like they were just testing the 3ds hardware on a pokemon game and rushed the entire development saying "meh we'll make this game bad so the next one is awesome!" not to mention only made like 69 pokemon.. since this is a hoenn remake it shouldn't have to worry about that lackluster ammount new gen pokemon.. they already have most of their animations and designs made.. so I hope they focus more on utilities and enviroment than just making everything 3d and calling it a game.. which btw x/y has very little use of the 3d feature but no body cares to get a seizure anyway.

BUT IT BETTER HAVE MOVE TUTORS!!!.. and no gym/elite four shedinja users ;-;

Interneto said:

@ZenTurtle Yes, I've got them ALL. Many others have done it too; it's not impossible and it shouldn't be hard to believe.

But I'll post a pic here later...

MegaBeedrill said:

Surprisingly completing the dex isn't that difficult.. annoying but not impossible.

I got all 720 pokemon (yes 720.. #diancie) in very little time. Not much pokebank usage either.

I'm getting myself off topic aren't I?

EarthboundBenjy said:

The only Pokémon I'm missing in my X's Pokédex are Arceus, Shaymin, Diancie and the unreleased Volcanion and Hoopa.

Mew, Jirachi and Manaphy can come from various side-games (Ranch, Channel, Ranger) with a little bit of effort in completing them, and I got Genesect, Deoxys, Meloetta, Keldeo and Victini from various events during Gen 5... and Celebi from the recent Pokébank event.

Completing everything else in the dex wasn't all that difficult with the help of the GTS and Wonder Trade. The only troublesome Pokémon were some of the Friend Safari exclusives, and Unown. Though I just headed to the ruins of Alph in HeartGold, caught an Unown of every type and uploaded the whole lot to White 2, and then to X via the bank.
Basically, what I'm saying is that if you're dedicated enough, completing the Pokédex isn't a huge issue outside of being available at the right time for events.

InnerSpirit said:

Just can't find the same buzz news like this would once stir inside. Sadly although I will probably buy it I'm definitely on the side of 'another one'?

mostro328 said:

Did someone just compare pokemon to cod lmao i think this might be the first time nintendo release Pokemon hashes so choose to each other and we get a cod release comparison probably from an idiot who will purchase cod on day one

kingdjk said:

I have to say it...

HOENN CONFIRMED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is going to be great! (as long as the PSS still exists) Hopefully it can fix some of the problems the original had, like the post game and the amount of surfing(and Tentacool) to make this game an amazing experience.

Aqueous said:

Isn't something I really wanted to see, at least this soon but on the bright side there can be a lot less people asking for them.

Luffymcduck said:

I knew there was gonna be a Pokémon game this year too and since Z would have been too early, this was a likely choice. Omega Ruby for me.

Fandabidozi said:

This is awesome!!! Will be playing through a new game of Pokemon Y in the meantime. I'm feeling all emotional. This is a lot process when you've just woke up
Can. Not. Wait!!!!!

realar said:

Oh contests, how I've missed you.
Musicals (the ones in the Black and White games, not the delightful films and shows we watch on stage and screen) SUCKED!!
The anime will be back in its stride once again. Combinations rule!!

xevious said:

It's funny how this "Nintendoomed"-rant practically dominates every nintendo related topic nowadays. Even wonderful news like this motivates the most dedicated doomers and haters to continue their rant about financial losses, end of Nintendo and how focus should be shifted to mobile gaming. Give it a break, you guys!

SilentHunter382 said:

I can't wait. Generation 3 was the only generation I never played so I am really looking forward in getting Alpha Sapphire.

Findonovan95 said:

To be honest Gold & Silver were my favorites but Ruby & Sapphire were good too. Does anyone else think this was thrown together after the investors briefing? I think it's just the lack of any actual game footage that made me think that though. Still; I'm definitely aboard the hype train on this one!

Trikeboy said:

I'm SO looking forward to these games. Pokemon remakes always include new story points that go along with the old story (Sevii Islands in Fire Red/Leaf Green and Safari Zone and Kimono girls in Heart Gold and Soul Silver). I can't wait to find out what they added and when it occurs. I'm also itching to see if it will be in X/Y graphic style. If it is, I will probably die from the joygasm.

Gashole said:

It would've been a great opportunity for Nintendo if these games were released on the Wii U. It badly needs Pokemon games.

randomlypikachu said:

why do people keep thinking the box art designs are mega evolutions ... its just the lines on their bodies glowing. (if that is what their megas are supposed to be assuming they get megas then thats just pretty depressing)

Zombie_Barioth said:

Thats a good point, it could be the somewhat long process for transferring Pokemon from older games is partially responsible. You have two separate games to go through to do so.

Its been confirmed that they're "never before seen Pokemon" by the Japanese branch of the Pokemon Company.

randomlypikachu said:

@Zombie_Barioth really? that kinda disapoints me a bit then =w=" cus thats what they were saying about the mega evolution for mewtwo when they unveiled it. assuming these are megas, i wish they wouldve made them look ... better XD instead of just having their lines glow.

MegaBeedrill said:

Maybe, but for some reason I'm not really feeling it for them to get mega evolutions. They are already too powerful.

But... maybe it's the version exclusive hoenn eons who we HAVE confirmed to get their megas. Besides if groudon and kyrogre got megas they would have to be transferable to x/y.. not to mention that x/y has been hacked weeks after release and pretty much we found only 2 new megas and 3 events as well as potentially scrapped or hidden vivillons.

These may be what they're refering to by "never before seen".. or it would be like that if hackers didn't jump to work.

They also wanted these hidden more than anything.. notice how nintendo let action replays and cheating device get arceus and all those pokemon? but only now when there is very little special they actually threaten the company of powersaves (datel) with a lawsuite to stop releasing the unreleased content.. they weren't only spoiling events.. they were spoiling future plans and games gamefreak had all along!

But who knows.. time will tell. We'll know what's up in 7 months.

Zombie_Barioth said:

Thats true, but it might also just be a form change or something. According to serebii it was an email to Daisuki Club members specifically about the boxart, and they also used the same phrase to describe black/white kyurem too.

Items aren't transferable to begin with so it won't matter if you can't get their megas since if its a form change that wouldn't transfer either. It could be mega latias and latios are meant to be transferable but groudon and kyogre's new forms aren't.

Shadowyugi said:

@ROBLOGNICK Echo Emerald would be better...

"The dragon pokemon, Rayquaza, that flies above the clouds, its roar echoing across the land, silencing the qualms between Groudon and Kyogre!!"

MegaBeedrill said:

The way I see it, they may not be transferable.. but they may be tradable like every other item (which I still don't understand why..)

However, who knows.. anything any of us say will be nothing but speculations whether they're true or false. So let's just see what they announce prior to release.

One japanese poster I saw in a video which idk if it was legit showed a silhouette of what almost looked like a rayquaza/groudon hybrid. Of course I can't speak their language so tanslation is beyond me.

Zombie_Barioth said:

Ha, I forgot about trading.

It could be a key item like the splicers or something, maybe they really are retconning the orbs or its a "newly discovered" method. I kinda hope its OR/AS exclusive for a while just because they might be pulling a primal dialga.

BusterRed123 said:

What if this is Basicly B/W2 but for Ruby/Sapphire? It's not sounding like a remake. But we might get an answer Sunday night.

Nintendude136 said:

THE REASON IM GETTING A 3DS! Sapphire was my first Pokemon game and I look forward to see what they can do in a remake of it.

ArabPikachu said:

Similar to how the Gamecube version of the first Resident Evil game was an RE1 remake built from the ground up, it'd be safe to say that Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire would be built from the ground up remakes of Ruby & Sapphire versions.

I'd personally expect these games to be more successful remakes than Firered, Leafgreen, Soulsilver, and Heartgold versions (which had minor differences from their original counterparts).
