As someone who's never heard of this game before seeing this article, and looked at the pictures before reading the text:

I assumed he was a girl in the left picture.

He still looks like a girl in the right picture.

Good job, localisation team. You've squashed that bit of gender ambiguity Untitled

@Damo Nope. Pretty certain everyone left-handed (including myself :3) is entirely more comfortable and familiar with the d-pad being on the left, given that's been the set-up of 99% of all controllers ever manufactured for any console :3

I suspect it's possibly even a slight advantage handling the bit of the pad with the most possible/precise inputs with my most dextrous hand :3

Raylax commented on Pokémon Ruby & Sapphire Soundtrack Now Availa...:

@uel The HeartGold / SoulSilver soundtracks likely come with the 8-bit tracks as the games themselves came with the 8-bit songs - an obtainable key item hidden in the game would let you change the games' music to the original tracks, including a couple of new 8-bit versions of areas that weren't in the original GSC - whereas FireRed / LeafGreen didn't have this functionality.

There's an old Gamestation in my town that's been empty since Game started shutting stores down a few years ago. That could be turned into one of these :o

Although there's a CEX on its doorstep, which I already use anyway.

@Prof_Clayton

Also, I'm just curious, does the shiny charm temporarily give you multiple shiny IDs, or does it limit the Shiny IDs of wild pokemon and eggs to a smaller number to increase the rate?

I believe that when it generate the PID of your Pokémon, having the shiny charm will make the game generate a new PID a few extra times if it isn't shiny. For eg:
Generate PID -> Not shiny (will stop here if no shiny modifiers)
Regenerate PID -> Not shiny (has Shiny Charm, so attempts again)
Regenerate PID -> Shiny (bing! Shiny! Stop regenerating ID)

Basically, the shiny chance modifiers increase the number of times the game will regenerate the PID. (n.b. I don't know how many times each modifier will attempt to regen)

Raylax commented on Two Tribes Development Studio Shuts Down and N...:

Unfortunate news.

I have to say though, it always makes me wince when a games or software company announces that they're building their next product "from the ground up." It sounds great in concept: old bugs annihilated! Absolute control over the codebase! No external dependancies! Shiny new shiny newness! And certainly, if you're a hobbyist, building something from scratch is great. And huge fun.

Not so when you're a company though, and you have bills to pay. Building something "from ground up" is, frankly, a bit of a death sentence. All that time and money spent rebuilding a shiny new graphics handler is time and money not spent making a game. And when making games is your bread and butter, you need to spend almost all your resources making games.

The only time you should build something from ground up is when it gives you a competitive edge. If it's critical to ensure that your product stands out against a competing product, then go for it. Anything else at all, you need to either build on your previous work or use a third-party engine.

Even Nintendo does this, and Nintendo is in the position where it really could build everything from ground-up if it really felt like it. But instead, Super Mario 3D World runs off an improved New Super Mario Bros Wii graphical engine, and Zelda ALBW runs off a further improved version of that. Smash Bros Brawl - one of Nintendo's most ambitious projects to date - doesn't even do its own physics. It uses the Havoc engine, because building a physics engine is expensive, time-consuming, and the benefits would be slim. And then Kid Icarus Uprising runs off a modified Brawl engine, because again it's unnecessary to do it all from scratch.

I imagine this was the cause of death for Two Tribes - the cost of a ground-up build far outweighed the benefits. Hopefully the new company won't make the same mistakes and instead dedicate their attention to making some awesome games :3

Raylax commented on Nintendo Looking Into "Little Experiences" on ...:

I can imagine them creating a "Nintendo Channel" app like the Wii had - game trailers, media, Nintendo Direct footage etc. That could be a cool way to get news out.

Whatever they make, I hope they make a Windows Phone version as well as the typical Android / Apple versions. Windows Phone (and particularly its Store) is awful, and that's from someone who legitimately likes Windows 8, but some of us have one and desperately require something to make the purchase seem at least somewhat worthwhile. Would be nice to open the store page and see something in the Top Rated lists that isn't an awful bootleg Mario endless runner (because there's pretty much nobody other than bored 14-year-olds who have any interest in developing for it - and seriously like 80% of the "top rated" things in the store really are dodgy unlicensed bootlegs)
