theblackdragon commented on Video: YouTube's Gaming Historian Takes Offens...:

@rayword45: for one, that people who get into fights with each other not complain when the entire spat is removed but appropriate respect is paid to comments left before things got to that point.

in all seriousness, it's just incredibly disappointing to watch people i've seen be friendly and constructive in other discussions suddenly turn on one another when a more polarizing topic comes around is all.

theblackdragon commented on Video: YouTube's Gaming Historian Takes Offens...:

@rayword45: your main comments were left standing, it was the worst of that spat you and the other people were having against one another that was deleted. frankly, i'm not appreciative of the opportunities quite a few people around here are taking just to be as nasty and rude as possible to one another, but people are allowed to have their say whether we personally agree or not. :/

Hey guys, if someone is resorting to insults, please report them and move on. Let the moderation team handle them without having to also go down the line and clean up your posts too! Any reciprocated insults and profanity may also get you banned along with the offender(s). This is your warning: Please be excellent to one another. Thanks in advance!

theblackdragon commented on Review: SPIKEY WALLS (Wii U eShop):

@shashwat: With all due respect, news about and reviews of weekly downloadable releases has been Nintendo Life's focus for a very long time. We pride ourselves on covering just about everything that's hit either the Wii or DSi Shops over the years, and now everything that's hit a Nintendo eShop as well. We can't just skip games because we feel like it if we want to keep up our reputation for near 100% downloadable coverage! :3 If you don't want to read a review for or article about any game in particular, we heartily invite you to scroll on by. No one's twisting your arm, I promise.

theblackdragon commented on From the Forum: To Buy or Not to Buy? SPIKEY W...:

if you want to play other games, play them. complaining about the dev's statement, about why this is in the news spotlight today? why not sit back and thank Tom for having brought it to the attention of the masses with this article.

and anyway, why get your feathers ruffled? this dev is free to create whatever games they want. not interested? don't buy.

if it were me, i'd be going back to Layton vs. Wright right now (because seriously i am enjoying the hell out of it lol). :3

theblackdragon commented on Nintendo's Unity Presentation Confirms Critica...:

@PvtOttobot, that's enough. Please stop. State facts if you please, but let's remain on-topic and refrain from going out of our way to be rude to other users.

@DiscoGentleman, unfortunately the aforementioned user is allowed to hold their views about the game in question. If what they have said regarding the presence of same-sex relations in the game is untrue, please let me know, but otherwise they are allowed to let other users know, same as anyone else about the presence of a potentially decision-making plot point. I will tone down their comment with regards to their views about same-sex relations in general, however, as it does not belong here.

theblackdragon commented on Talking Point: A History of the Sexualisation ...:

Hey guys, an unfortunate many of you may have noticed your insults toward other users have been removed (come on, people, not cool), and still more that off-topic comments have been edited or deleted. Please, let's all be civil towards one another, even if we don't agree on something, and if you don't want to be here in this comment thread for whatever reason, don't be here — allow those who do want to discuss the topic at hand to have their say. We're asking that you post constructively or not at all, and fair warning: if you're just here to troll, you will wind up banned. Thanks in advance, everyone! :3

theblackdragon commented on Amida's Path:

i beat the easiest difficulty level this morning... it's an interesting
game with an absolutely horrific translation, lol. we're talking worse than mid-90's Konami quality. the graphic style reminds me of Okami for some reason. i'll probably play through the harder difficulties tonight and see if the ending changes or if there are new things to fight. anyone else take the plunge? :3

theblackdragon commented on Giana Sisters Developer Under Fire Over Diesel...:

Like i said in the forum thread about this, a quick Google search pulls up the fact that Diesel has been on a tear lately trying to stomp out counterfeiters and people genuinely attempting to use the Diesel brand name to sell other fashion clothing. This probably got caught up in the swell. I'm sure they'll all get things worked out in the end, and even if they have to change the name of the game itself, so what? a good game is a good game regardless what it's named.

theblackdragon commented on Talking Point: Nintendo Should Beware the Slip...:

@Hit-Girl, @Achoo, @3Daniel: We can have this conversation without insulting others, please and thank you. If you don't like what someone else here has to say, by all means report them if they're breaking our Community Rules, but if it's just a difference of opinion, we ask that you keep any rudeness on your parts to yourselves, up to and including any unasked-for grammar or spelling critique. I don't care who started it, all of you chose to participate in the fallout, and the person who chooses to continue such a horrid train of arguments will wind up banned. This is your warning: Please be excellent to your fellow users.

@LunaticPandora, same goes for you — watch the insults, please, they are absolutely unnecessary. Thanks in advance, everyone!

@Gamecubii-64DD: come on now, miracles have happened before — i know a kid right now who had a big fat tumor wrapped around his brain stem and lived to tell the tale even after one set of doctors had called in a freakin' priest, he's been in remission for quite a few years now (knock on wood!). Let's take any and all well-wishing in the spirit it's been offered and leave the negativity at the door for this one, shall we? :3

theblackdragon commented on This Is Where Unwanted 3DS And DS Games Go To Die:

come on now, Gamestop may sell a lot of used games, but even they can't sell that many copies of iCarly 2. gaylord boxes of 'em are no joke, they're made to be moved around on pallets. kinda makes you wonder how many copies they printed total, and if they buried this one box intact in the desert, could it be the next E.T.? :3

theblackdragon commented on New Japanese Law Bans Child Abuse Images, Yet ...:

@Cresartist: I'm going to ask that you stop, please, and get back to the topic at hand. If you don't want to discuss it, please move on and allow others who do want to discuss the topic at hand to do so freely.

If you have any off-topic questions, comments, or concerns for our Editorial team, you (and anyone else, for that matter!) are welcome to bring them up via the Contact Form. Thanks in advance, everyone!

Guys, one person disliking something does not a troll make. This is ridiculous, the next person to start flinging insults instead of discussing civilly gets temp-banned. This is your warning: if you don't like what someone here has to say, just ignore them. Thanks!

I'm actually kinda sad — it completely slipped my mind to update all the Tomena Sanner scores on my Wii before the WFC went down. man, those days back when it first came out, me and Vay and JayArr and Peachy all going head-to-head to conquer the leaderboards in the name of all that is NL... such good times. guess i'll never know if anyone managed to defeat my few crazy high scores that had been left standing... >:3

theblackdragon commented on This Foul-Mouthed Bomberman Clone Is Blowing U...:

a 'curse' is defined as 'an offensive word used to express anger or annoyance', the key word being 'offensive'. granted, the idea of parental lineage being of great importance is kinda going the way of the dodo in modern society, but it's still not a very nice thing at all to insinuate that someone may not actually know who their father (or both of their parents) truly are. using 'bastard' in the technical sense (e.g. to describe someone or something with unknown paternal lineage) is naturally not meant to be offensive, but actually calling someone a 'bastard' for no reason, that seems to be where the line is usually drawn. There are plenty of other words out there with dual meanings like this one, both technical and offensive, it's nothing new.

(by the way, @Jayvir, calling someone 'stupid' is offensive...)

theblackdragon commented on Reaction: Mario Kart 8 Accused Of Poor Sales P...:

@Action51: they're free to create as they please, no one is denying that. all this outrage over a simple observation by a random person on the internet is pretty crazy though. You'd think they'd just shot some of these people's pets by pointing out that the humans/humanoids in this particular game series all have about the same skin tone.

@sdcazares1980: it's great that it doesn't bother you, but everyone comes from different walks of life, we all have different life experiences. i can't find it in myself to disagree with the author of that review, and they have every right to their personal feelings about the issue. i do agree with you regarding the placement of characters of color in video games, however, that they shouldn't feel tacked-on or extraneous. it's the same way i feel about gender and sexuality in gaming, the characters should be written well so that they mesh fluidly with the rest of what's going on.

theblackdragon commented on Reaction: Mario Kart 8 Accused Of Poor Sales P...:

"kids should be able to have roll models of any colour because they are worthy roll models not because their skin colour matches"
True. However, when all of the available role models are the same exact skin tone (in this case, 'white'), can you blame a person for wanting to see some more variation in the mix, especially if it would be inclusive toward their own skin tone?

@lz: no one asked you

theblackdragon commented on Reaction: Mario Kart 8 Accused Of Poor Sales P...:

two things:

(a) Mario being Italian has nothing to do with the color of his skin. Just glancing at him, he is 'white', and so are Peach, Luigi, Wario, Waluigi, Toad/Toadette, and just about everyone else in the Mushroom Kingdom — I'm wanting to say I've at least seen darker-skinned Toads before (possibly in SMRPG?) but off the top of my head I can't say for sure. Continuing to parrot 'b-b-but he's Itaaaaaalian' makes no sense in terms of the quote. If you didn't already know his name and history, he'd just be 'random white male character #1'.

(b) I don't quite agree with the idea of 'lack of cultural diversity' boiling down to straight up 'racism', it seems like a few steps have been skipped over in there. However, I hate to say it, but I kinda agree with the quoted review — the Mushroom Kingdom isn't a very diverse sort of place in terms of basic skin color for its humanoid characters — non-humans, sure, they're all over the place, greens and yellows and oranges and reds and blues and every color in between, but humans and humanoids [toads] seem to be predominantly pale-skinned. I'm guessing it really stood out to the author of that review after seeing the in-game lineup laid out for them to choose from, and it's a fair criticism IMO. Square is another Japan-based company that historically has featured a plethora of lily-white characters in its games with few exceptions, and on one hand, I get it — Japan is populated primarily by pale-skinned Asian folks who don't care about racial diversity at all, they generally don't even think about it in their day-to-day lives. However, when you continually develop for and release products to a worldwide audience, I don't think you can really blame some of the worldwide audience for wondering why Japan is still the main audience being reflected by available characters' skin tones.

theblackdragon commented on The North American Version Of Tomodachi Life W...:

Well, at least they're consistent when it comes to refusing to just copy and paste translations between regions — i know Canadian French is different from mainland French, just like how British English is different from American English. Maybe there are more in-jokes and cultural references from the region that they want to include or represent in the game that'll be available after a while.

Honestly, though, who knows what the heck Nintendo can possibly be thinking lately. This entire game has been an absolute fiasco.

theblackdragon commented on Nintendo Provides Some Context to 2013's Tomod...:

@Redxzero: User Chriiis has more than explained the problems with people who are born not-straight growing up in a society that tells them they are straight from the get-go. It's like left-handed people being forced to use their right hands for everything back in the day — some adapt, some feel wrong but go with it anyway, and others fight it as best they can until they find some level of acceptance they can live with. Please consider @Chriiis' words carefully, and re-read them if you have any further questions, and if you still choose to not accept these answers to you for whatever reason, I ask that you let it drop gracefully since this line of discussion has nothing to do with the article at hand. Thanks in advance!

theblackdragon commented on Nintendo Provides Some Context to 2013's Tomod...:

@navonod18: It would be one thing if this had been something that had never had it available before, but... it did. same-sex relationships were shown as present, we had them dangled in front of our noses and now it's all 'whoops, just a glitch, sorry 'bout that folks' and that's it, over and done with, no consideration for those who would have gladly taken that option for what it was and ran with it full tilt. it hurts people who are already being told from day one by society that they're a 'glitch', an 'error', or a 'mistake' of some sort, it's a kick while they're already down.

I'm quite unhappy about this decision to not have it as an option myself. it would've made this a day-one purchase, time-sink or not, but now, my interest is gone. I'm sure it'll be a moneymaker for Nintendo like other time-sink sorts of games, but none of that money will be mine.

theblackdragon commented on Nintendo Provides Some Context to 2013's Tomod...:

Guys, we're done with the attacks on one another. Please keep your comments focused on the article at hand and not on each other. If you can't play nice regardless what you believe, pro or against same-sex relationships, you will wind up banned. If you're just here to troll, you will wind up banned. Please tread carefully.

theblackdragon commented on Review: Lola's ABC Party (3DS eShop):

@KnightRider666: i had been going to remove your comment with a warning to refrain from insults, but Barbiegurl made her point so eloquently i'm inclined to leave things be just so that her reply to you can stay as well. Next time, please keep any snide comments you may have about another user's choice in games to yourself. In no way does her choice to play a game you wouldn't personally choose have any impact on your life. Remember, it takes all kinds of people to make the world go 'round!

@Barbiegurl777: keep playin' what you love :3
