theblackdragon commented on Talking Point: Should Zelda Go Episodic?:

I've never really been interested in episodic games because what happens when the devs decide not to continue it, or (god forbid) they're physically unable to continue for whatever reason? I prefer to wait until all the parts of a game have been released before I start playing them through, if for nothing else than being able to experience the entire story in one go. I know this is Nintendo we're talking about, and hopefully they'll be around until long after we're all dead, but that's just how i feel.

theblackdragon commented on Review: Dillon's Rolling Western (3DSWare):

@3DSFanatic4419: Phil was joking when he said the review would be amended. We do not amend reviews when optional accessories become available later on down the line. That's why everyone is more than welcome to recommend whatever solution(s) or advice you'd like to give to others in the comment threads. :3

theblackdragon commented on Mario Kart 7 Update Available Now:

@Duney: You may not call it cheating, but everyone else does. You may not care, and that's on you, but those of us who don't want to play Maka all the time thanks to other people just trying to get their VR up with a quickness are definitely glad to see this fix. Thank you for patching it, Nintendo!

theblackdragon commented on Wii Pikmin 2 Hits North America on 10th June f...:

@Token_Girl and anyone else asking for source: there we go. As for the lack-of-available-preorders mystery, i'd chalk it up to weirdness — i remember trying multiple times to preorder Bit.Trip SAGA before it hit, and GameStop didn't even have it in their systems. then no one in town had a copy for days after its supposed release date. granted, i know this is a first-party release, and it could just be that it was announced only today so that's why, but i hope there won't be any weird supply issues with Pikmin 2 :(

theblackdragon commented on Interview: Nigoro on La-Mulana's Cancellation:

@BulbasaurusRex: You should play some mid-90's games that were brought over from Japan... Konami's translation work was especially atrocious back then. With some of those under your belt, understanding the interview will be much easier for you, I'm sure :3

That said, that's great news, SKTTR! I do hope a solution can be found :(

theblackdragon commented on New Fan-Made Mega Man Games Emerge:

@Usagi-san: and what of other fanworks? what about the harp-playing twins who choose to play Legend of Zelda music, should they be hunted down and shot? How about the 60-bazillion thirteen-year-olds tracing crappy images of Sonic the Hedgehog, coloring them in MSPaint, and then uploading them to DeviantART, are we going to chop off their hands? And what of the people we just posted about selling those retro pillows on Etsy? i'm afraid I don't recall you making a stink about it in those threads either, so color me confused on this one.

if you want to get NL-technical, in terms of interpreting our Rules, we're looking to avoid things that are outright illegal. Piracy is illegal. Flashcarts allow the circumvention of proprietary lockout chips/technology, which is illegal depending on where you are in the world (definitely in the UK, though, which is where Nintendo Life is located). ROMs are illegal if you're uploading them to the internet. You can be severely fined and/or serve jail time depending on where you are in the world and whether you choose to or are able to settle your case if caught. We do lump homebrew into the same category in terms of enforcing our Rules, though it is technically not inherently illegal (not on its own, anyway, and it depends on the circumstances involved); it's just on the side of the 'can of worms' part of the 'gray area', and it's easier to knock it out on-sight than have to continually babysit the thread(s) involved.

What this is, however, is a fan game — it's a derivative work at worst. They're not stealing the original games and trying to pass them off as their own, they've taken the original games and made their own new works in the same visual and gameplay style — yes, likely without permission, but again, it's in the same league as fanfiction and fanart. It's up to Capcom to protect their own intellectual property, same as any other company or individual. We're sorry it bothers you personally, but who knows — the publicity they're receiving now could be what nets them their C&D, thus fulfilling your ultimate wish on this one.

With all that said, if you would like to ask any further questions of the staff regarding the general decision to have posted this article, we invite you to get in touch with us directly so that we're not continuing to clutter the comment thread with this particular tangent. Thank you :3

theblackdragon commented on New Fan-Made Mega Man Games Emerge:

@Usagi-san: true, the 'but i'm not making a profit' excuse doesn't always work against a company attempting to preserve the integrity of its intellectual property, which they have the right to do. However, it's up to the companies to have their lawyers send out the cease and desist orders, and again, that's all that would happen. A quick C&D, the offending material is taken down, and that's the end of it. No fines, no jail-time or anything, just a threatening e-mail from a lawyer and a 'sorry, we thought we were in the clear, our bad' from the people behind the fan-projects in question.

theblackdragon commented on New Fan-Made Mega Man Games Emerge:

@Usagi-san: it would depend on whether these are games created from scratch or by editing new levels into existing code. it would also depend on whether or not they're making a profit on the project. provided they went through the trouble of coding everything on their own without borrowing from the existing works and they're not trying to cash in on it, this would be in the nature of fanart and fanfiction — it's a gray area, and prominent works would be in danger of receiving a C&D at worst.

@waltz: if the name of the game wasn't so blatantly odd, there's a good chance people wouldn't be loling. it's about up there with that 'if i was sealed in a room with a girl i'd _____' (or whatever it's titled) game, lol. way to get uber-defensive over nothing, though-- sounds like you're still stinging over how Love Plus didn't really catch on here either. :3

and I'm 'just saying' that the word 'trap' is not something to be thrown around casually regarding 12-year-olds. I realize now that the intent was not there, and I have educated Phoenixborn regarding the other ways that particular word can be taken (assuming she did not know before), therefore the misassumption can be avoided in the future.

theblackdragon commented on Level-5 CEO Raises Possibility of Inazuma Elev...:

you asked. i explained. referring to a person as a 'trap' implies that they're got something to hide that will eventually be revealed within a bedroom setting. it also implies that they are indeed attempting to hide their birth gender for either the purpose of surprise upon discovery or to intentionally mislead other people, neither of which are welcoming assumptions to be made about anyone. if you do not want your words to be taken in such a manner next time, please consider them with more care.

Honestly? I don't really see myself buying another Kid Icarus game until i'm that bored with everything else I own (or that is available for me to purchase) and i'm truly desperate for something I haven't played before. i like games that break the fourth wall on occasion, and i like it when games take a break from being serious sometimes, but KI:U takes the freakin' cake. maybe i'll be able to get into it sometime after i'm done with Xenoblade, i hope :/

@Ouroborous, @sinalefa: note that the line says 'it's priced at $300 excluding shipping costs' — he's referring to the original cost of the 3D papersculpt item itself, and nowhere has he mentioned shipping (which are the prices you've found listed on the page, sinalefa).

Ouroborous may have stumbled upon the prints, which are indeed $30, but as the item is already sold and we can't see the price of the original anymore, it may well have been $300.

Depending on how this pans out, it might be a system seller for me. It will have to be something brand new to the series, though (not another remake), and it'll have to be solid in-air dogfighting from beginning to end (no running around on the ground like the GC titles).

@Retro_Hype: Last i checked, no one was forcing you at gunpoint to read this article, and besides, it's a Talking Point — an opinion piece. It clearly has the words 'Black Ops' in the title; surely you knew what you were getting into when you clicked to read more. Please calm down. :/

theblackdragon commented on La-Mulana Canned for North America, Europe:

@rayword45: Actually, i believe in the GoNintendo article they blamed Nigoro (their partners in getting La Mulana to WiiWare iirc) for not stepping up their game and getting it out. since they sat on it and its DLC for so long and the Wii cycle is winding down, they said they weren't willing to continue waiting on Nigoro finally putting out a game that wouldn't sell well because everyone's already looking ahead to Wii U.
note: my memory very well could be wrong, but i'm pretty sure that's the gist of what i read, lol

theblackdragon commented on Analyst Calls for Mario on Non-Nintendo Platforms:

@komic: actually, if you want to play Playstation games, buy an Xperia Play. If Nintendo could partner with a smartphone dev and craft a perfect 'Nintendo phone' in a similar manner, i could see it happening, but not as it stands right now.

also, with as yellow as that chocobo is, he'd have to be a banana :3

theblackdragon commented on Analyst Calls for Mario on Non-Nintendo Platforms:

@Waltz: Nintendo's having enough problems populating its own VC, let alone a VC for an iDevice, tbqh. There's also the fact that its games were created for a device that features buttons — I can't see Miyamoto being okay with their games being released for a device with such an obvious playing-experience handicap.
