GalacticMario28 commented on Possibility of SNES Remix and Other Remix Titl...:

I was never really the biggest fan of the SNES (nothing against it, I just have more memories with the NES), so I can't say I'd be excited for an SNES Remix. But I'd be interested in a GB Remix, mostly to see what they come up with for games like Pokémon and Tetris.

GalacticMario28 commented on Poll: Have Your Say on Nintendo Direct Bonanza...:

I think either multi-game Directs or single-game Directs are fine, depending on the game and the content of the Direct. Everyone wanted details on Smash Bros., and that's exactly what the Direct gave us. Tomodachi Life was something that needed to be seen in action to be fully understood by people like me who knew nothing about it. Meanwhile, multi-game directs can build hype for a lot of games that may not be released for a while.

I'm not too concerned with whether Directs should be live or not, but I do prefer to see them live; it just feels more exciting that way.

I'd like to see one Direct every month-or-so. I feel that Directs a month apart are neither too close together nor too far apart.

I'd love to see both a press conference and a Direct. Nintendo can focus on getting the biggest games out there to try and attract those who haven't yet have a reason to buy a Wii U or 3DS (especially a Wii U), while also having a Direct to show off details on big games, as well as smaller games that would appeal mostly to Nintendo fans. I feel like that would be the best of both worlds.

GalacticMario28 commented on Talking Point: Horror and Metroid Could be a P...:

As someone who's not too big on the Metroid series, I wouldn't mind seeing a more horror-oriented focus for a future Metroid title. But I'd like the focus to be on a sense of helplessness; I wouldn't be too scared if I had an awesome weapon that could that could annihilate any threat with just a bit of skill and patience. I don't see Nintendo doing that, though. Having that sense of helplessness could make Samus feel weak, and enough people were upset (to put it lightly) about her being weak in Other M; I doubt Nintendo is willing to divide the fanbase again, especially given their current situation.

GalacticMario28 commented on Ubisoft and EA Lock In Their E3 Presentation D...:

I don't expect EA to have any information that would benefit Nintendo, but I'm hoping Ubisoft will have show that they haven't given up on the Wii U yet. More info on Watch_Dogs would be nice, especially if they highlighted the differences in the Wii U version (although the more I think about it, the less likely that seems to me). I'll be pleased if Ubisoft shows any real support for the Wii U, even if only a little bit.

GalacticMario28 commented on Nintendo Is Working On The Next Mario Game, Bu...:

@Yorumi
I understand what you're saying, but the fact is there will always be more Mario games, just like there will always be more Zelda games and more games in every other exceedingly popular franchise. This information did come awfully soon after the release of the last Mario game, so I can kind of see why people are making a big deal about it, but that doesn't change the fact that it will be a while before we actually get the game. Hopefully Nintendo will release a lot of other games to distract people from Mario in the meantime.

@Zombie_Barioth
I understand people having higher expectations for Nintendo, but sometimes it just gets a little out of hand. For example, compare the announcement of DKC Tropical Freeze to the announcement of Rayman Legends. Both are the 5th main entries in their franchises, both are made in a similar style to their immediate predecessors (both of which came quite a few years after the 3rd entries), and both were released between 2-3 years after their predecessors. Yet Legends was hyped and DKCTF was bashed. You could argue about the quality of each game, but there was no way of knowing how good/bad they would be when they were first announced.
I agree that there are times, such as the adapter issue you mentioned, when people do defend Nintendo too much, but I think there are other times when people criticize Nintendo too much.

@Yorumi
I'll acknowledge that I read a bit too much into that statement. I only mentioned Zelda because it's popular, so it has a lot of fans who, if introduced to some less established franchises like F-Zero, could increase the size of those fanbases and make it more likely that we'll see more of those games before our grandchildren are spoon-feeding us. I agree that Nintendo doesn't need to rely almost exclusively on Mario to sell systems, but I still don't think one more game coming in a couple of years is as big of a deal as some people are making it out to be. I suppose that's all I'm trying to say.

@Yorumi
Well, I'm sorry that there are only four specific games you care to see at this point, but when you say it like that, it sounds like it has less to do with Mario and more about your personal wish list not being fulfilled. If that's the case, complaining about Mario isn't going to help you much. If you want more of those games, you'll have to convince a lot of Mario/Zelda fans that the franchises you mentioned are awesome and that they should start demanding that Nintendo make more of those games ASAP.

And Nintendo doesn't get excused for things; it's actually the other way around. Whenever Nintendo does something even remotely unoriginal or "safe," they get bashed all over the internet for it, yet when any other company makes something that is either unoriginal or just has a couple of new twists, no one complains at all.

@Yorumi
You seem to think that a new Mario game in the works means there won't be any other games in the works as well. Last I checked, the 3D Mario team works only on 3D Mario games, the Zelda team works only on Zelda games, etc. Other franchises are handled by other teams. Those who are still blown away by recent 3D Mario games will be delighted to play another one in a few years. Those who aren't can look forward to a game they're more interested in.
And since you apparently haven't noticed, there's a pretty big difference between a NSMB game and even a modern 3D Mario game; the difference is reflected in both sales and internet discussions. So it's not so much five Mario games in three years as it is two-and-a-half 2D Mario games (the half is for Luigi U, since it was primarily dlc, and even the retail version was half the price of NSMBU) and two 3D Mario games across two different platforms. When you look at it like that, it's really not that much.

GalacticMario28 commented on Nintendo Is Working On The Next Mario Game, Bu...:

"Working on" the game doesn't mean it's going to come out tomorrow, or even necessarily this year. They're probably always working on a new Mario game; the only difference here is that we got word of it early.
That said, I don't expect this to be a sequel. The 3D Mario games have always come in pairs: 64/Sunshine, Galaxy/2, 3D Land/World. It's possible that the next game could break that trend, but I think it's going to be something new, and that makes me excited. I will patiently wait to see what amazing things these guys come up with next.

GalacticMario28 commented on Super Smash Bros. Hitting 3DS This Summer, Wii...:

I'm fine with waiting for the Wii U version; it should make for some good Christmas time gaming sessions. I don't think it would be realistic for the Wii U version to release first, seeing as it's in HD. I think there's at least a decent chance that the 3DS version will get people geared up for playing a similar game in HD later in the year. And I also think it's important to remember that the stages will be completely different between versions. That may not matter to the super competitive 'No items, Final Destination, Fox only" players, but it should matter to the less competitive players.
Also, I think there will be a fair number of "hardcore" gamers, the ones who practically live and breathe off of competitive multiplayer games, who will buy the Wii U version simply because it's in HD. But that's just my speculation.

@Doma
I was talking about things like an increased focus on advertising, working to some extent with smartphones, and experimenting with free-to-play models. Nintendo hasn't done a lot with these things yet, but Iwata did say that Nintendo would start doing more with them this year.

GalacticMario28

GalacticMario28 commented on Report Suggests That June Could Be Crucial For...:

It's hard to say whether Iwata's in really big trouble or not. Even if the Wii U ends up not selling very well, even after all its biggest games come out, I don't think that's necessarily grounds for dismissing Iwata. Under Iwata, Nintendo has seen huge successes in the DS, Wii, and 3DS; if the Wii U never manages to gain ground, it would be the first big failure in recent memory, which means it would be the exception, not the rule. Nintendo has made it clear that they are changing up their business strategies in response to their current situation, so I think it's best to wait and see how well these strategies work before getting rid of Iwata.

GalacticMario28 commented on New Watch_Dogs Trailer Highlights a Living, Br...:

I'm not sure what to think of this new trailer. I feel like it didn't really show off much gameplay; it just showed some consequences of the player's actions, not what the player actually did to trigger those consequences, which is what I personally am more interested in knowing right now.

GalacticMario28 commented on Industry Veteran Peter Molyneux Warns The Indi...:

It's entirely plausible that indies won't be as big of a thing a few years down the road as both gamers and current indie developers get their fill of what indie games tend to offer, meaning gamers will buy fewer indie games and developers will make fewer indie games. But considering that it's relatively easy and inexpensive to make such games, I think they'll still have a significant presence; just not as significant of a presence as they have right now.

GalacticMario28 commented on Game Boy Advance Games On The Wii U Virtual Co...:

I think the lack of multiplayer will only be significant if Nintendo decides to release a lot of more multiplayer-oriented games in the future. If they mostly release single player games, it shouldn't be too big of an issue. And the way I see it, single player only is still better than no GBA games at all.

GalacticMario28 commented on Feature: Bandai Namco Characters We'd Love to ...:

I do think it would be cool to see Pac-Man duke it out with Mario, Sonic, and Megaman, but I can't say I'm a big enough fan of Pac-Man to be excited about his potential inclusion in the game.
I'd love to see Klonoa and Hewpoe, as I feel they could do with some more recognition in the West, but I can't really see how they could fight. Klonoa's only ability, to my knowledge anyway, is to fire wind bullets. But I've only played the first game in the series, so maybe he gets more abilities in the other games.

GalacticMario28 commented on Talking Point: Super Metroid's 20th Anniversar...:

While I can't exactly call myself a big Metroid fan, I do agree that the Wii U could certainly benefit from a game of that sort. The Wii U does have at least one well-received (albeit not particularly well-selling) darker game in ZombiU, though that is definitely not the same as a big first-party title. I think the main concern is trying to find something new to do with the series while still making a game similar enough to older Metroid titles to please the people who didn't like how different Other M was, and I imagine that's easier said than done at this point.

GalacticMario28 commented on Twitch Claims Victory in Pokémon Crystal:

Again they finish the game while I'm sleeping; I swear I must be cursed to miss out on seeing most of the good parts live. Oh well, I'll be watching TPP Emerald; Crystal started out a bit weak because of the trolls and the greater linearity of Johto, but it proved to have its own unique challenges. A week-long break at this point makes sense to me.

GalacticMario28 commented on Soapbox: Ignoring The Objectification Of Women...:

I'm not a fan of oversexualization like this, but I'm not about to try and stop it from existing. There's an audience for everything, including this kind of thing; rather than deny an audience what they want, I think it's best to take extra measures to make sure those who would be offended by it have as little exposure to it as possible. Obviously that's a lot easier said than done, but I think that's the closest to a win-win we can get in this situation.

GalacticMario28 commented on Shovel Knight Release Pushed Back "A Few Weeks":

A few weeks isn't too big of a deal to me, especially when the extra time is being used to perfect the experience, and it sounds like they've really been pushing themselves with development of this game. I'm going to feel really bad for these guys if the game doesn't do too well.

GalacticMario28 commented on Talking Point: Important Steps to Bring the 3D...:

I'm not sure about crossplay, but I agree with the two steps outlined in this article. I wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo is working on those things, but is trying to give them a 'Nintendo' spin so as not to directly copy Sony or anyone else for that matter. At least I hope that's what they're doing.

GalacticMario28 commented on Soapbox: The Nintendo Wi-Fi Disconnection Remi...:

I agree that local multiplayer is more fun than online multiplayer could ever be, and I would hate to see Nintendo go with an 'online only' approach. I actually plan to play a bit of Super Mario 3D World with my family in a couple of weeks when I'm on my spring break.

While I don't think it would hurt for Nintendo to have more games with online multiplayer, I do think they should be cautious about which games will and won't have it. While there are some people who would choose local over online in a heartbeat, I think there are a lot more who, if given the choice, would choose online every time simply because of its convenience; even if local and online were options, they would get so used to the convenience of online play that they would never bother to invite friends or family over to play together locally, even if they found that more fun than online play. I believe there are some games for which online multiplayer is a necessity, like Mario Kart and Super Smash Bros., but other games for which local should be the only option, such as 3D World, so gamers will actually get to experience the amazing local multiplayer and not dismiss it in favor of the more convenient but probably less fun option. In short, I say online and local for some games, local only for others.

GalacticMario28 commented on Video: The Top 20 Wii U Games So Far - Part Two:

Interesting list, especially the top five; I expected DK or Zelda to be #2. I really need to get Pikmin 3 and The Wonderful 101 one of these days; if only money weren't such an issue for me.
Although I felt #1 was predictable, I agree with its rank completely.
