MysticX commented on Study Finds That US Consumers Are Buying Wii U...:

I think the results are pretty weird TBH...

"Brand" for XBOne? The same brand that loves up one in two of the Windows-versions is a good reason to buy XBOne?

And what the heck is "Fun-factor"? I always assumed that "I find it entertaining" was the prime reason to buy any console... But PS4 doesn't even have "Fun-factor" on the list, so what...

MysticX commented on Iwata Doesn't Feel amiibo Has Shown Its Full P...:

@Shiryu I agree, make a game about Amiibo, rather than tacking a bit of Amiibo-functionality onto utterly unrelated games.

As for card Amiibo: those will only take off if the aforementioned Amiibo game is released along with them, many people who buy the figures do so for the figure, not for a costume in MK8

MysticX commented on Former Sega of America CEO Talks Out on the Co...:

It's a pretty difficult position that Nintendo is in ATM, many gamers are playing games on iOS or handheld devices, please spare me the "Not real games lol!"-routine, they're people playing games who aren't doing it on Nintendo-devices anymore.

If Nintendo keeps going as it is, they are going to lose market share to tablets (Give my kid a $200 3DS or my old tablet/phone? Ooh, difficult...), but if they move IPs to phones/tablets, they'll lose the one big thing that keeps their 3DS-line afloat: great exclusives (A Miiverse app is so hilariously insipid it doesn't really count as "Doing something on mobile", a Nintendo news app? Newsflash Nintendo: Tablets have internet-access nowadays!)

MysticX commented on Poll: Are You An Early Adopter With The New Ni...:

I'm not convinced it's a big enough upgrade (I already have a 3DS XL) to warrant a 170-200 euro outlay TBH, especially since not many games will actually use the increased speed and stuff (To maintain compatibility with the "old" 3DS line)

MysticX commented on Satoru Iwata Shares Confidence in Hitting Targ...:

If Nintendo's best idea for a mobile app is faffing around with Mii's... Yeah, it's better if they do steer clear of mobile outright, better be unknown than known for rubbish...

The only thing worse than doing nothing on mobile (An immense market however you look at it) is half-assing it, then the association that the general public will have with Nintendo is "Those guys of the balloon-headed boardgame-pawns app" (Mii's don't really have much by way of personality)

MysticX commented on Talking Point: Limitations on Stock and Advert...:

@Franklin Well, now Nintendo have less stock to pay storage costs for, the whole "opportunistic middle men"-thing is none of their concern, all Nintendo cares about is that all Amiibo and limited edition stuff they manufacture is sold, what happens after that doesn't involve them (And especially their profits) in any way at all...

MysticX commented on Editorial: Nintendo's YouTube Creators Program...:

@njblair143 Yeah, but how much longer can Nintendo continue bumbling around relying on their cash reserves?

Don't get me wrong, Nintendo make awesome games, but their activities outside the game-making have a disturbing number of "WTF are they thinking?"-moments in them...

MysticX commented on Nintendo Stays in Profit With Wii U on Target,...:

@jakysnakydx WiiU is third in sales this generation, sold less than a console considered a failure by most (Gamecube, cool games but no commercial hit by any stretch) and Nintendo only just clambered out of the red, doesn't take a MBA in business administration to get a "Maybe it could have gone a bit better"-vibe...

MysticX commented on Nintendo Stays in Profit With Wii U on Target,...:

@erv How many casual gamers (The less enthusiastic part of the Nintendo fanbase) regularly browse the internet in search of 3DS news though?

Maybe most people who want a 3DS already have one, and it remains to be seen how many of those are going to buy a new 3DS, maybe i'm being an old cynical barsteward, but nothing about it has me all psyched to buy a third 3DS... (Bought a 3DS XL because my hands are too damn big for the regular 3DS :P )

It's really the cellphone/tablet routine all over again, they take an old device, stick an upgrade or two on it (Bit faster, new functionality, but nothing so major that it divides the userbase) and then expect you to buy a 90% similar device because of it, it feels a bit "Money grab"-ish, and i honestly expected better from Nintendo...

MysticX commented on Video: Does Super Mario Galaxy 2 On Wii U Offe...:

@CommenSense This irks me too, i never had a Wii but bought a WiiU, so you'd think i'm the kind of customer Nintendo does that sort of re-release, but alas, i will first have to plunk down €50 or so to get a Wiimote and nunchuck first, i don't think so...

Best thing Nintendo can do (and as such never will) is update Wii emulation and allow usage of the gamepad-screen instead of pointing at stuff with the Wiimote (like the bit in "Super Mario 3D world" where the player makes blocks appear by tapping them on the touchscreen)

MysticX commented on Digital Foundry Ponders Next-Gen Hardware Opti...:

@schizor True, and sales are craptacular (Except in Japan), so Nintendo is doing a balancing act between getting a new console ready (Far from easy on its own), making sure it's competitive with what the others are likely to come up with (Unless they want a repeat of this generation), and not making people who bought a WiiU feel ripped off, i don't envy them...

MysticX commented on Feature: The Biggest 3DS Games of 2015:

My most anticipated game for the coming year is "Shantae and the pirate's curse", yeah the avatar is a bit of a hint, but since i live in Europe, i'm still waiting...

But from the list: "Story of seasons" appeals most to me, TBH i don't know why the most anticipated game is a remake from 3 console generations ago, guess it's pretty telling about the rest of the lineup...

I actually wonder why Nintendo is releasing a new rendition of the 3DS when the game-support is so meh (IMO games are more important to shift consoles than a second control stick), but that might just be cynical ol' me.

MysticX commented on Satoru Iwata Highlights Frustration at Missed ...:

@element187 No, i just think Nintendo should differentiate themselves in the games, which is why everybody buys Nintendo (If they want the other games, buy another console, right?), families and children are leaving Nintendo since motion-sensor games are out and phone/tablet games are in for the hardly-a-gamer crowd, they're too busy playing "Candy crush saga" or whatever (More advertised on Dutch TV than anything Nintendo-related, lol) to bother about Nintendo, Sony or Microsoft...

So if the soccer-moms and their kids are too busy with their tablets (Computers, not meds :P ), go for the people who can buy a console and games for it themselves, and the last thing they seem to want is a Fisher-price looking tablet/controller thing (Where DID that "for kids"-image come from? >_< ) that coincidentally pushes the manufacturing costs up, what else could that money be spent on? Oh, i know! faster components for the actual console!

And whether Tablet CPU's are a good idea or not, being the odd one out does make porting to Wii U far more expensive than from PS4 to XBOne, which is another factor on top of "Small install base" for developers to ignore WiiU, and Nintendo just can't develop enough games to keep both WiiU and 3DS afloat...

MysticX commented on Satoru Iwata Highlights Frustration at Missed ...:

Well, of course Nintendo are working on whatever comes after the WiiU, console development takes years, they probably started on it the day WiiU was released (Or maybe they took a day off to celebrate :P )

A for what i'd like next: a processor more similar in power and architecture to what the other guys are using, to encourage more games being ported, Nintendo's first-party games are great, but the WiiU is proving that those games alone aren't enough...

And maybe a more down-to-Earth controller design, it's the game that sell consoles, not a fancy controller that few games use anywhere near to its full potential...

MysticX commented on Discontinued amiibo Figures Could Be Released ...:

Nintendo apparently gave up even trying to do a decent job with Amiibo-supplies, and are just moving on to cheaper alternatives in cards?

Already Nintendo are taking a PR-pummeling with the whole Amiibo-affair, saying "Forget figures, here are some cards!" would be a surefire way to make a bigger smoldering crater out of the whole thing, what are they thinking?

MysticX commented on Talking Point: Super Smash Bros. and amiibo Ha...:

I'd like to get a Wii fit trainer Amiibo, but they're only available on the 'net for 2 or 3 times the RRP, and with $20 or more shipping on top of that, it's a bit too expensive to me...

I'm hoping Nintendo can adjust to the actual demand and get all amiibo's properly available again, the only people happy now are scalpers on the 'net.

MysticX commented on Bayonetta 2 Falls From UK Charts After One Week:

I have to agree with Iceclimbers and minotaurgamer, Bayonetta is a pretty niche game (too weird for mass market), published on a niche console, that's two mentions of the word "niche" too many for it to be a big hit...

Sadly there are two things that most gamers like: complaining about yet another CoD/Fifa/FPS coming out and lapping those games up like dogs anyway

MysticX commented on Poll: Nintendo Minute Debate - Is Super Mario ...:

While i personally prefer SMW, SMB3 has most influenced the rest of the series.

SMB3 introduced flight, the raccoon tail (Which became the cape in SMW), the whole concept of different power-ups (Instead of just the Mario - Super Mario - fire Mario line) using a map to select levels, the controls were improved...

Super Mario World took all those things and the additional power of the SNES to really take them further (And is IMO the better game for it), but the basic concepts were all laid down in Super Mario bros. 3

MysticX commented on Shantae and the Pirate's Curse Finally Shakes ...:

Day 1 buy for me (My avatar is a bit of a clue, there :P ), sure "Risky's revenge" was a bit short, but i replayed it lots of times, and WayForward said that SAtPC is a lot longer than RR, so i'll easily get my money's worth out of it.

Shantae will do well, word-of-mouth made the GBC original sell, the pricetag might be a bit off-putting for people, but maybe it's time for mid-range prices on upper-tier indie games... (As a mid-point between €2 tablet games and €50 retail releases)

MysticX commented on Video: Take a Look at All of the 3DS HOME Menu...:

The concept is cool, but none of the themes really have that "Shut up and take my money!"-factor (The LoZ one comes closest, but that "Wall with crayon Link"-part at the far left spoils it IMO), i'm hoping the inevitable deluge of Pokémon themes coming once the new games hit next month has something for me.

MysticX commented on Super Smash Bros. on 3DS Lacks Circle Pad Pro ...:

@KryptoKrunch It's not about the CPP, it's about the (so far) subtle nudge to buy the "new 3DS" already, i'm used to Nintendo doing periodic hardware updates by now, but this is the first time that we're seeing pushing like this to spend the cash on an upgrade (i'm too cynical to believe that SSB will be the end of it)

MysticX commented on Nintendo Confirms Development of Games That Wi...:

I'm not going to go full "All aboard the hate-train" yet, but i bought the 3DS twice already (regular one and XL to accommodate my large hands), and if the "enhancements" and exclusives end up being too big, and the regular ol' 3DS XL gets treated like second-rate i will be very annoyed and will certainly keep it in mind when considering future Nintendo purchases...

MysticX commented on Weirdness: Playing as Peach Online is Triggeri...:

Maybe this is the reason Bowser keeps kidnapping prinsess Peach: he's locking her up for cheating! :P

Back to the subject: it's rather a big oversight IMO (The sort of thing that should have cropped up in internal playtesting), hope it gets patched quickly...

MysticX commented on New Nintendo 3DS Models Announced:

Myeah, not for me...

I upgraded to a 3DS XL last spring (curse these big hands! >_< ), and i just hope we won't get any big titles suddenly requiring NFC or the second circle pad all of a sudden, it's getting as bad as cellphones now, a new one every year...

MysticX commented on Talking Point: The Argument For And Against Re...:

I think retro flash carts are very important in preserving the games for a lot of people, Nintendo aside (Since Nintendo loves their re-releases :P ), which other publishers from back in, say, the SNES age republish any of their games? (Never mind the countless publishers that are gone now)

The money has been made on those games when they were first released (I'm against flashcards for current-gen systems, those are only for pirating), the second-hand retro market (The sole alternative to ROM-carts) doesn't earn the publishers anything either, so let the games be used freely now.

MysticX commented on Reaction: Nintendo's Drop in Momentum Is A Big...:

It just seems Nintendo doesn't have the manpower to pull 2 systems at once (Especially with the third-party situation), if they focus on getting the 3DS to shift the WiiU does a Titanic and when they focus on WiiU the 3DS starts sinking, Nintendo needs to work on increasing their development efforts, seesaw-ing between the two obviously isn't working very well...

MysticX commented on Kotaku Says YES to the Wii U - Rejoicing Begins:

@3DS_excel I'm pretty sure the jubilation in this article is more about your second paragraph than your first, of course you don't need justification to buy the WiiU, but developers want justification before they develop for it (Ok, Nintendo can pull the WiiU-cart by themselves, but some help from third parties is never a bad thing), and a positive article on a popular website is a good start for that...

MysticX commented on EA Explains Why It's Abandoning Dedicated Hand...:

Awwww, and i have such good memories of EA, from back when PC screens had 256 colours max and were 320x200 pixels... :3

I'm sitting here, trying really hard to think of anything EA did in the past 10 years that i gave a toss about, and i'm coming up blank, and seeing what they did to "Dungeon keeper" (I used to love that game, you know, the PC-version) really makes me angry, thanks for reinforcing the bad stereotype of mobile games there, EA!

He has a point about 3DS and Vita (By then we'll know what the 3DS follow-up will be and Vita is pretty much dead right now), but it's all overshadowed by the series of cluster*BEEP* EA has been pulling recently.

MysticX commented on Stats Suggest That UK Kids Are More Likely To ...:

@manic221 Not all iOS-games have paywalls (Or even In-app purchases, lots of games have IAPs but are perfectly good fun without spending cash, too)

I can see you haven't been to where i live yet, all the people in stores here can tell me is where they have the games-section, anything beyond that gets me a blank stare...

Lastly: you didn't address my issue, comparing the worst of iOS to Nintendo's "Not the bad games"-category, which is still a double standard...

MysticX commented on Stats Suggest That UK Kids Are More Likely To ...:

@redivgamer90 So wait, what you mention for iOS-games is what even iOS-gamers consider the dregs of the app-store (Countless bad "Flappy bird"-clones, freemium "Games" with paywalls), but for handheld consoles it's "Not counting bad games..."? Way to stack the deck there... ~_~

MysticX commented on Stats Suggest That UK Kids Are More Likely To ...:

@CaviarMeths Yes, the appeal of tablets and smartphones is in convenience and short "Spend a few minutes" or "quickly look something up" bursts (And those short bursts add up over time), where the problem lies is that the "Spend a few minutes"-idea was a big part of the appeal of portable consoles until smartphones (And games for them) reached a certain point. (Which happened late in the DS's lifespan)

If i want to game for a longer period of time i still waddle over to my PC or get my 3DS out, but for short bursts or anything internet-related, i get my iPad, i had a laptop before, but it was noisy, ran hot (More "Laptoast" than "Laptop" >_< ) and got unreliable right after the warranty expired (Figures... :P )

TL: DR version: The "Short bursts of gaming" got taken over by tablets and phones, the "Long spans of gaming" is the terrain of home consoles, so soon enough the portable consoles will be finding themselves in a spot of trouble...

MysticX commented on Stats Suggest That UK Kids Are More Likely To ...:

@CaviarMeths A tablet is bigger, which makes on-screen buttons bigger too (Less mis-tapping when typing stuff) and is less tiring on the ol' eyeballs when used for longer periods of time. (It also helps that i'm not a very "Out and about" kinda guy, so i don't need a fancy phone)

As for the original discussion: i think it's a matter of people wanting to carry just one piece of electronics with them (Or parents wanting to pay for only one :3 ), and that makes it a choice between "games" and "games and a phone and internet-access and a decent camera", when parents are making the final buying decision, multipurpose wins out...

The price of 3DS-games (Or video games in general) ATM doesn't help either, sure a good phone or tablet is more expensive, but once you have it, you're paying 3 to 5 euros per game (Or get the game for free) instead of 45 to 50, and then you'll hit that break-even point between 3DS plus games and smartphone/tablet plus games damn quickly.

MysticX commented on Reaction: Mario Kart 8 Accused Of Poor Sales P...:

I love that first article, even the very first paragraph is such a blinding flash of the obvious that i'm almost typing blind here, so a tiny install-base means fewer sales for a game? Ahoy there, captain Obvious! :P

As for racism... I don't know what to say to that, it's so phenomenally stupid that words to describe it escape me, besides, maybe light-skinned mushroom-people are mostly dark-skinned, and Nintendo are being very progressive with their portrayal of the minority! I wouldn't know, haven 't seen any humanoid mushrooms around town lately.

MysticX commented on Feature: What Can We Expect From Pokémon Omeg...:

What i'd like...
Secret bases using Streetpass or the X/Y style online-system
More mega-evolutions
Keep Pokémon-amie and super training for EVs
Trainer customization with hat-less option and maybe clothes that refer to pokémon-types (Spooky dress, martial arts clothes, stuff like that)
More postgame content, if possible also something for slobs like me who play with pokémon they like best and don't breed three dozen of the same pokémon just to get the perfect IVs and nature (Got my butt kicked into high orbit in the X/Y battle places (Maison? Institute? I suck too much for either, love the restaurants, chateau and caves though)

MysticX commented on Pokémon Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire Footage R...:

@Arcamenel I'm not saying the games are rushed, i'm saying the reveal feels rushed, i'm sure development has been ongoing since X/Y released at least (basic systems and pokémon models can be reused outright), but suddenly coming out with box-shots and a release date right after hugely disappointing quarter-figures came out... A bit too well-timed to be an actual coincidence, IMO...

As for the trailer, showing the two pokémon everybody knows will be in-game (Being on the covers and all) has a bit of a "Why even bother?"-vibe, but it keeps the buzz going i suppose.

MysticX commented on Pokémon Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire Footage R...:

Well, that trailer wasn't very impressive at all...

I said it in another thread, but the reveal of the new pokémon-games feels a bit rushed, kind of makes me think the original reveal was set for around E3, but was pushed forward to give Nintendo some good news to bring out to counterbalance the poor earnings report...
