I'd love a new SOTN style game but Konami definitely can't phone it in; the series would REALLY need to bring its A-game, I'd hate to see one of the genre's namesakes return only to fall to the wayside next to the numerous incredible Metroidvania games have been released since Order of Ecclesia released back in...2008 (wow...),
As much as I'd like to think this means more HD-2D remasters for games like Chrono Trigger or Dragon Quest V, knowing Square Enix, the only thing they'll take away from this is that they're not trying hard enough with their predatory mobile games and will only double down like the short-sighted, greedy shareholder pleasers they are.
Considering how Nintendo has approached even free high profile fan projects in the past and with the official live-action Zelda movie currently in production, this project's days were numbered the moment it was announced.
Honestly, I like the new design. It looks like an evolution of the classic design from DK '94 with some cues of the more cartoony styles of King of Swing on the GBA and the Illumination movie while still retaining elements of Bayliss' Country design. Feels like a fusion of classic and modern to me.
Assuming it's just to cover bases with Labo, Ring Fit Adventure and other games that heavily use the IR sensor but will remain slightly nervous until I see a definitive list of non-compatible games.
If this is considered the worst of 2024, review websites have clearly not spent enough time in the trenches of the Switch eShop or Steam because wow, PO'ed is DOOM Eternal compared to the horrors that lurk in those store fronts.
I mean, saying he wanted to snap his own neck is a bit extreme but nice to see Kamiya showing some humanity by expressing remorse for once. A tiny glimpse that he can indeed improve as a person.
I cried tears of joy at the announcement last night and even this following day, I'm in such a chipper mood and can't wipe this smile off my face. A game reveal hasn't made me this happy since Pikmin 4 and I can't wait to hear more but I'm just fully content knowing Okami is coming back to us and with Kamiya at the helm. Life truly is great sometimes.
So glad that such a deserving game won Game of the Year and hope Astro Bot is able to help give 3D platformers more of the respect they deserve among the general gaming public with this win and the positive reception it has gotten since release.
Mostly just here for AntonBlast; been excited to play the full game since I backed it on Kickstarter two years ago and played the demos Summitsphere kept releasing.
Still wish that of the Wii's library, games like Punch-Out or Sin & Punishment Star Successor got HD Switch ports but suppose with this one already having a 3DS port, it was likely a little easier/cost effective to port (cross promotion with the DK Super Nintendo World expansion probably doesn't hurt either). Regardless, I do enjoy Returns but the game remaining mostly unchanged and already having Tropical Freeze on Switch make this a hard sell for me at full price.
What I still don't get about Mai being left out of the SNK cameos in Smash is that she's had more reserved designs they could have used (such as her outfit from Fatal Fury 3) and even then, it's not like Smash wasn't above altering some character designs to keep the age rating lower (Bayonetta undoubtedly being the biggest example). I always felt like it could have been possible to include Mai without having to drastically alter her design to where it betrays the character which I know Sakurai also tends to be heavily against (hence why Ridley took so long to get in).
Glad they're taking their time to make sure the game isn't another story of a shoddy Switch version but this along with a few other instances are really making me hope that Nintendo has optimized the hardware for the Switch successor so that porting games from other systems on it goes a lot smoother without needing to be a technological wizard.
Something tells me that if Paramount had stuck to their guns on that initial ugly Sonic design, we wouldn't even be watching this trailer for a third movie right now.
As much nostalgia as I have playing the first game growing up, I wonder how well the controls will be optimized from the mouse/keyboard set-up that's so engraved into my brain.
This is getting ridiculous. It feels like every other day, the big gaming companies or their parent companies are constantly in talks of buying basically everything despite the fact that they can't sustain themselves doing so (Microsoft shutting down multiple studios following the ludicrous Activision-Blizzard buyout comes to mind) so really in the long-run the only people that benefit from these buyouts are the out-of-touch CEOs and shareholders that don't actually care for any of the games these companies produce and only are invested in the short-term gain of money.
@somnambulance Apparently on Steam, the game has 88% positive feedback; granted only from less than 50 user reviews right now but still a pretty good sign. Question just remains if it made the transition to Switch smoothly.
As much as I'd want to see Adventure and Adventure 2 get remakes/remasters just as an excuse to have the Chao Garden on a modern system, I do see merit to the idea of remaking Sonic 06 to give that game the second chance it was robbed of from its crunched development time and misguided decisions.
Neither are that great and the Japanese one is probably better but part of me kind of enjoys the North American one just because it reminds me of the box art for a lot of older PC games from the 90s.
Considering he's unapologetically posted AI generated content on his social media, not sure I can really trust him back in any sort of creative role, especially for a series so reliant on human imagination as Rayman. You know, even aside from the accusations of him being a horribly toxic leader.
While I wouldn't be opposed to a port of Zero that reworks the all-range mode sections and changes the controls to something a bit more conventional; I think like many others, I would prefer a brand new Star Fox game that finally expands on the structure of Star Fox 64 in a meaningful way instead of rehashing it again.
Kind of wish Switch got a port of Yakuza 0 first but guess can't complain about having a decent port of Kiwami on Switch. Already got this one on PS4 but will probably grab this eventually when it inevitably gets discounted in one of Sega's MANY sales.
Good to see that the Switch version is running pretty decently, was a little worried after the console's port of Frontiers was a little funky (despite me still enjoying my time with it). Can't wait to pick this up Friday!
Considering how long it took Nintendo to file this lawsuit, it gives me the impression that they've been assembling their lawyers and forming up a bulletproof argument with every possible comeback to any counter Pocketpair could throw out in front of a judge; Nintendo very clearly understands the value of a brutal legal team and an airtight case considering the Universal lawsuit from 1983 basically helped them shape where they are now. They are definitely ready for this and considering they've potentially spent over half a year moving in the shadows, they are out for blood.
I've seen more comprehensive levels from a five year old's Mario Maker levels. THIS is what tech bros want us to believe is the future? If so, I'm terrified if they get their way...
All I really know about MySims are the comedic YT videos that PeanuButterGamer made about the series a while back (checks and sees that those were 12 years ago and has a mental breakdown) but if this is true, it's amazing the hoops EA will jump through to avoid porting the mainline Sims games to any Nintendo console since the Wii.
While it's admittedly a little silly seeing Michael Myers agilely hop through side-scroller levels and this style of game probably fits Ash a little bit better, I'm just glad to see classic horror franchises in a video game that isn't Dead By Daylight or yet another Dead By Daylight wannabe.
@Not_Soos I suppose my previous comment had a bit of a tasteless "I knew all along" tone to it, which is not what I intended and I do apologize for that. I guess what I meant more so was when I met her, she seemed to be more tired and disinterested than you would expect (which could have been from anything) and it gave me the vibe that something was bothering her (which I of course did not ask because I thought that would have been boundary crossing) and that the announcement of her cancer diagnosis was a horrible coincidence.
I had the fortune of meeting Rachael Lillis a year ago at a convention where she signed my Jigglypuff amiibo and even before the announcement of her diagnosis, while she was still very nice, I could tell she seemed...tired.
I was really hoping she was simply sleepy from her flight but was heartbroken to hear about her diagnosis a few months later and now this; we lost a legend way too young. RIP Ms. Lillis, you'll never be forgotten.
I mean, that's gonna happen when you barely market a remaster of a 16 year old indie game that has been since usurped from its indie royalty throne by other games that have come out in that time and especially in the case of the Switch version, releasing super late into the life cycle of a system you had basically no established audience on doesn't help either.
Braid's still a decent little game and I respect it for being a trailblazer for indies back in the late 2000s but this remaster was always fighting an uphill battle and Blow is a fool if he thought otherwise.
First heard about this after Erica Lindbeck said she was going to be in it but didn't know it was actually being spearheaded by the Ray, Max, Robbie (pretty convinced at this point these three share a brain cell) and Amanda; looks like a completely unhinged idea for a dating sim but willing to give it a try just to see how nuts it can get.
This is just so bizarre but if this is an in-house developed horror game, then count me very excited. Last times Nintendo ever dipped their toes into the genre was Eternal Darkness and Fatal Frame but one was externally developed while the other they only published so I'm completely captivated by the idea of a horror game fully from their own minds.
@Ryu_Niiyama Oh, tell me about it; that arcade cabinet was really cool but space and money are such finite resources for me so definitely glad to have console ports instead lol
Do wonder though how Capcom finally worked out a deal with Disney/Marvel to get these console re-releases to happen; wonder if it was as easy as it was for Sakurai to get Sora in Smash by just asking the right person at the right time or if it involved a few more hoops to jump through. Might have possibly also helped to already have a foot in the door with that Marvel 1Up arcade cabinet.
Between this and Luigi's Mansion 2 HD being $60, I WOULD say it's because Nintendo knows they can get away with charging full price for any Mario/Mario-related game...but then Mario vs. DK remake and WarioWare Move It were released not even a year ago at $50 so I don't even know what Nintendo's mindset here is.
