Re: Mini Review: Rayman: 30th Anniversary Edition (Switch) - Nicely Orchestrated But Misses A Key Note

OstianOwl

While the soundtrack getting replaced is a major buzz kill, this collection also has quite a few other issues; such as moments of pretty noticeable input delay, the save function being broken across most of the games, the rewind function crashing the game if used too frequently (which it WILL be considering Rayman 1's infamous difficulty spikes) and the Jaguar version having a weird laying audio issue turning the soundtrack into an auditory mess. For a collection of multiple versions of one game for $20, that's pretty inexcusable and Ubisoft had better at least address these with a patch.

Re: Poll: What's Your Favourite Gen 6 Pokémon?

OstianOwl

Call me basic but Greninja is my GOAT, I was team Froakie the moment the starters were announced and I felt so vindicated when everyone fell in love with the ninja frog.

However second favorite is definitely Aegislash; a haunted sword & shield is such a cool idea for the usual "possessed object" ghost Pokémon trope (though theme-wise it MAY have been a few generations too soon) and its gameplay of switching to different forms depending on what moves it uses lead to so many fun gameplay moments.

Re: Ubisoft Reportedly Aware Of Rayman: 30th Anniversary Edition OST Requests

OstianOwl

Speaking of music, as much as I also want them to work out the rights to get the full original OST as an option, probably a bigger concern for me that I haven't seen many talk about is the fact that the music in the Jaguar version is outright broken with the old soundtrack and the new soundtrack layering over each other in a jumbled mess. According to a lot of fans, the Jaguar version is supposed to be the definitive way to experience the original Rayman gameplay-wise and I can't even tolerate it unless I turn off the music in the in-ROM options or just outright mute my TV/Switch. That's a problem that should not exist, Ubisoft.

Re: Rayman Really Is Back, According To The Series Creator

OstianOwl

Just throwing it out there: for anyone that either loves the original Rayman or thinks it has one too many problems, fully recommend checking out the fan-made remake Rayman Redemption on PC if you haven't yet; game completely changed my perspective on that original game which I could never get past the music world in when I was a wee lad discovering video games for the first time.

Re: Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds Fails To Meets Sega's Expectations

OstianOwl

looks at how close Sonic Superstars released to Super Mario Bros. Wonder
How many times do we have to teach you this lesson, old man?!

But in all seriousness: selling a kart racer when people need to be more selective with their game purchases now more than ever at the full $60/$70 along with a $30 season pass was probably not the best move, especially so soon after everyone gave Nintendo grief for releasing Mario Kart World at $80 and later on Kirby Air Riders also at $70.

Re: PSA: Dispatch's 'Visual Censorship' Settings Can't Be Removed On Switch

OstianOwl

Not only is censoring a game that's already rated M very redundant but considering that Cyberpunk 2077, a game from a larger publisher, was able to get away with no censorship while this happened to a game from a much smaller studio, I can only assume it all comes down to who can afford a bribe to persuade Nintendo to let their game get away with it, which is very anti-indie/small publisher but guess that's just a little conspiracy theory on my part.

Re: Jennifer Hale Says She Was "Thrown Under The Bus" Amid Bayonetta 3 Casting Controversy

OstianOwl

Taylor's stunt really did not help the argument that voice actors need to be treated more fairly in the industry when she was lying through her teeth with no receipts and throwing a fellow VA under the bus just because she took the job instead; overall very unprofessional behavior. Unfortunate that Hale got caught in the crossfire of the whole mess and I'm at least glad it hasn't scarred her from ever wanting to voice Bayonetta again.

Re: ICYMI: The Super Mario Galaxy Movie Teases Rosalina And Bowser Jr. Scenes, Here's A First Look

OstianOwl

Larson sounds good so far; she's a great actress when she's given the right material/character and she's proven with Scott Pilgrim Takes Off that she's competent at voice acting so not worried at all about Rosalina being "butchered" or anything like that.

Junior on the other hand...these are some choices being made. The eyes don't really bother me as much as they do most people but I still question why change them at all. And I've really only seen Safdie in Oppenheimer so can't really say much about the guy as an actor and I see what they're doing trying to do making Junior sound like a younger Jack Black but it's just such a departure from what we're used to with the young & bratty sounding Junior in the games that I'm not quite sure just yet how to feel about it.

Re: Poll: What Do You Make Of The Mario Galaxy Movie's Leaked Yoshi Design?

OstianOwl

Yup, that sure is Yoshi all right. Not sure what everyone was expecting, especially since we already saw how Yoshis look in this art style in the previous movie.

Now the real question is which B-list comedic celebrity did they get to spout off his no doubt "hilarious" dialogue? (In a just world, he'd only be speaking in archived Totaka clips like Snoopy in The Peanuts Movie.)

Re: We're Not Getting A New Game, But 'Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy' Gets A Free Update

OstianOwl

That's...actually a pretty significant update. Good on Capcom going back and polishing up the original trilogy collection when they really didn't have to. And hopefully soon we can complete the Ace Attorney legacy on modern consoles by bringing the Professor Layton crossover back from licensing purgatory; Capcom, you brought back SNK vs Capcom and Marvel vs Capcom already, I know you can do it and convince Level-5 if you try...

Re: Poll: So, Will You Be Checking Out Switch Online's Virtual Boy Service?

OstianOwl

I've played some Virtual Boy games in 3D and while I really enjoy Wario Land and Jack Bros and some of the others are decent fun, I wouldn't personally consider spending $100 on a plastic shell to be worth the novelty, or even the cardboard version which looks like it would be even more of a pain to use.

The fact that Nintendo hasn't confirmed if there will or won't be an option to just play the games in 2D is insanity and while it would probably miss the point or not give you the full experience of the VB library, it still devalue part of the subscription service when you need to spend an additional $25-$100 to even access part of what you're already paying for.

Re: Atari Announces Bubsy 4D From 'Demon Turf' Developer Fabraz

OstianOwl

Putting aside the meta jokes/references that have all the subtlety of a train wreck and the further beating of the dead horse that is "lol Bubsy 3D bad, amirite?", this actually looks like a pretty good 3D platformer. Willing to keep tabs on this and maybe give that darn bobcat a chance.

Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl: Duel - Star Wars: Rogue Squadron

OstianOwl

Thr art on the Japanese box art isn't bad, in fact I'd say it's rather good, but the framing and low brightness of the image made it difficult to even tell what I was looking at for a moment. Compared to the NA/EU box art which is bright and has a lot going on, perfectly illustrating a massive dogfight between the Rebellion and the Empire and giving you a clear visual of what Rogue Squadron is all about.

Re: Nintendo Shares More Artwork Of Diddy Kong's Brand New Design

OstianOwl

Really like how Diddy's design wasn't drastically changed but still tweaked enough to better match with DK's. Makes me looking forward to seeing how the other Kong regulars have been touched up since while probably wishful thinking, I feel like it's only a matter of time before we see the likes of Funky and Dixie again.

Re: Full Game List Revealed For Atari's Upcoming Bubsy Collection

OstianOwl

The fact we exist in a timeline where we're getting a nearly full legacy collection of Bubsy, including a game that is often cited as one of the worst games ever made, but can't even get Ubisoft to give us a single modern port of any of the Rayman games that isn't Legends never ceases to depress and confuse me all at once.

Re: Banjo-Kazooie Composer Explains Why He Thinks Another Game Is Unlikely

OstianOwl

Sadly another factor to account for is that the Rare that made Banjo-Kazooie, Tooie and all the other golden age classics we wish would return is long dead with basically no one responsible for those games remaining at the company at this point; no offense to those working there now but there's no guarantee they'd be able to capture that same magic from a quarter of a century ago if they ever DID make Banjo-Threeie. Best to just accept that Banjo & Kazooie getting into Smash Ultimate was probably the series' last hurrah other than possible future re-releases.
