Taylor's stunt really did not help the argument that voice actors need to be treated more fairly in the industry when she was lying through her teeth with no receipts and throwing a fellow VA under the bus just because she took the job instead; overall very unprofessional behavior. Unfortunate that Hale got caught in the crossfire of the whole mess and I'm at least glad it hasn't scarred her from ever wanting to voice Bayonetta again.
Man, the things these executives will say to try and justify shoving A.I. down consumers' throats while dodging the admission that they wasted way too much money on technology with a generally negative public stigma.
A list like this was ALWAYS going to be subjective but even with that in mind, I will say that seeing Mario Kart World and Animal Crossing New Horizons ranked as high as they were was...a choice, to put it nicely.
Larson sounds good so far; she's a great actress when she's given the right material/character and she's proven with Scott Pilgrim Takes Off that she's competent at voice acting so not worried at all about Rosalina being "butchered" or anything like that.
Junior on the other hand...these are some choices being made. The eyes don't really bother me as much as they do most people but I still question why change them at all. And I've really only seen Safdie in Oppenheimer so can't really say much about the guy as an actor and I see what they're doing trying to do making Junior sound like a younger Jack Black but it's just such a departure from what we're used to with the young & bratty sounding Junior in the games that I'm not quite sure just yet how to feel about it.
Yup, that sure is Yoshi all right. Not sure what everyone was expecting, especially since we already saw how Yoshis look in this art style in the previous movie.
Now the real question is which B-list comedic celebrity did they get to spout off his no doubt "hilarious" dialogue? (In a just world, he'd only be speaking in archived Totaka clips like Snoopy in The Peanuts Movie.)
Every now and then, I still wonder about that alternate timeline where Nintendo actually bought Rare and kept them on as a 2nd party developer and wonder how different things these days would have been...
Somewhere between both Legends games there's a Pokémon game with engaging combat and enjoyable exploration desperately trying to claw its way into existence. Hoping we don't have to wait long to see that hypothetical game someday.
Considering how much Yacht Club delayed Shovel Knight before its initial release, I'm not surprised by this but I also know it'll be worth the additional wait.
That's...actually a pretty significant update. Good on Capcom going back and polishing up the original trilogy collection when they really didn't have to. And hopefully soon we can complete the Ace Attorney legacy on modern consoles by bringing the Professor Layton crossover back from licensing purgatory; Capcom, you brought back SNK vs Capcom and Marvel vs Capcom already, I know you can do it and convince Level-5 if you try...
I've played some Virtual Boy games in 3D and while I really enjoy Wario Land and Jack Bros and some of the others are decent fun, I wouldn't personally consider spending $100 on a plastic shell to be worth the novelty, or even the cardboard version which looks like it would be even more of a pain to use.
The fact that Nintendo hasn't confirmed if there will or won't be an option to just play the games in 2D is insanity and while it would probably miss the point or not give you the full experience of the VB library, it still devalue part of the subscription service when you need to spend an additional $25-$100 to even access part of what you're already paying for.
Sad thing is when compared to Sony and Microsoft really only taking their fanbases into account when they get MAJOR backlash (XBox One launch anyone?), he's probably right.
Putting aside the meta jokes/references that have all the subtlety of a train wreck and the further beating of the dead horse that is "lol Bubsy 3D bad, amirite?", this actually looks like a pretty good 3D platformer. Willing to keep tabs on this and maybe give that darn bobcat a chance.
Hope those who get to go to this con enjoy meeting him. Met him a handful of times throughout the years and he's been extremely nice each time, one of my favorite voice actors to interact with at cons.
So that makes two on Lord of the Rings games that kept getting delayed that probably should have been outright canceled. Willing to accept the sad reality that Shadow of Mordor was the last truly great game for this franchise.
Hellena Taylor set the conversation about fair treatment of voice actors in the animation and game industries back several years with this stunt; hope she's proud of herself.
Thr art on the Japanese box art isn't bad, in fact I'd say it's rather good, but the framing and low brightness of the image made it difficult to even tell what I was looking at for a moment. Compared to the NA/EU box art which is bright and has a lot going on, perfectly illustrating a massive dogfight between the Rebellion and the Empire and giving you a clear visual of what Rogue Squadron is all about.
Wow, I remember following Mang0 back in high school when I was huge into the competitive Melee/Smash Bros scene. Hard to believe the guy fell off this hard.
The fact that SpongeBob had more of a chance of getting into a Sonic racing game than the characters from the IDW comic that Sega actually owns is both sad and hilarious all at once.
Interesting that Wario and Waluigi seem to be absent from most of the park's key attractions, even the Mario Kart ride and that mural of 2D artwork. Wishful thinker in me wants to believe they're saving them for at least a mini expansion but realist in me is pretty sure it's just because they're keeping it focused on characters that appear in the mainline games.
Really like how Diddy's design wasn't drastically changed but still tweaked enough to better match with DK's. Makes me looking forward to seeing how the other Kong regulars have been touched up since while probably wishful thinking, I feel like it's only a matter of time before we see the likes of Funky and Dixie again.
Still very strange they didn't include the first entires for either Rival Schools or Star Gladiator and yet included a game as infamous as Fighting Evolution but guess can't complain too much when the rest of the package is so strong, especially when I was convinced Power Stone would never see the light of day again.
The fact we exist in a timeline where we're getting a nearly full legacy collection of Bubsy, including a game that is often cited as one of the worst games ever made, but can't even get Ubisoft to give us a single modern port of any of the Rayman games that isn't Legends never ceases to depress and confuse me all at once.
Sadly another factor to account for is that the Rare that made Banjo-Kazooie, Tooie and all the other golden age classics we wish would return is long dead with basically no one responsible for those games remaining at the company at this point; no offense to those working there now but there's no guarantee they'd be able to capture that same magic from a quarter of a century ago if they ever DID make Banjo-Threeie. Best to just accept that Banjo & Kazooie getting into Smash Ultimate was probably the series' last hurrah other than possible future re-releases.
Never finished Bounty Hunter when I rented it from Blockbuster on Gamecube several years ago so can probably spend that weekend finally tying that loose end.
Hilarious to me still that this game basically started out as the creator taking a jab at the waves of try-hard mascot horror games based on some childhood thing that flooded the Internet after Five Nights at Freddy's blew up and it basically became popular as if it were one of those games it was having a laugh at.
Does make me wonder though where that leaves Pikmin 1 & 2. Assuming they won't get added to NSO since pretty straightforward ports already exist on the Switch for purchase but would be pretty odd if they had most of Nintendo's major 1st party titles but not the series that first appeared on the Gamecube.
Honestly I mostly agree with this take: Nintendo is undoubtedly aware they're already in PR hot water from this base Mario Kart being $80 at launch so announcing plans for paid DLC less than a year after release (or even worse, before launch) would absolutely blow up in their face.
Or they could just genuinely not care and let their greed have them only worry about making what money they can off of the hardcore consumers they know will buy everything they publish no matter what. They'd be severely limiting themselves by only focusing on that short term profit when they accumulated such a massive audience with the Switch but I'm not a marketing analyst so what do I know?
Wonder if Sega of Japan had any communication at all with their other branches (America, Europe, etc.) on this. I imagine not and that the lore management team of those branches absolutely LOVE this...
Unfortunate to hear about the layoffs especially when those in upper management apparently went uneffected (scumbags, the lot of them) but what was the publisher thinking going all in on this game that nobody seemed to want right out of the gate that didn't even know who it was marketed towards (Kids who like the similarly playing LEGO games? Adults who understand references to older/more mature franchises?)? This was always the Space Jam 2 of video games; just bashing together as many recognizable IPs as possible with little to no thought to it and hoping that'll be enough for audiences to eat it up.
I played FUR Squadron last year and while it was a decent bite-sized game, it looks like they've improved a LOT with this sequel. Definitely looking forward to giving this one a try, especially with Team Star Fox still being MIA since 2018.
