Re: Random: Nintendo Apparently Wasn't A Fan Of Tiger & Hasbro's Pokédex Toy

OstianOwl

Oh, wow. I remember seeing the commercial for this as a small Pokémon-obsessed child and immediately begged my parents for it. It was a pretty boring toy all things considered but I was fully suckered in to PokéMania so I didn't care.

Who would have guessed such a simple toy would be this big of a point of contention but I guess that's Nintendo of Japan for you, especially when Yamauchi was still calling the shots.

Re: Marvel's Midnight Suns On Switch "No Longer Planned"

OstianOwl

Well, that's a shame but can't say I'm too surprised with how little we've heard/seen about this Switch port and how this game apparently underperformed on other consoles which I imagine would cause Disney to not want to risk a version that would require additional time and resources.

Re: Splatoon And Link's Awakening Remake Composer Leaves Nintendo after 17 Years

OstianOwl

As much as I adore his work on Zelda, Mario Galaxy, Mario Kart and Splatoon, one game Nagamatsu composed for that should not be slept on is Nintendo Land; that game was loaded some of the most charming Nintendo arrangements ever.

Wish Mr. Nagamatsu all the best in his future endeavors and hope he returns to work on future Nintendo projects as a freelancer.

Re: The Pokémon Company Is Looking To Hire Someone With NFT Knowledge

OstianOwl

Okay, what is even happening at the Pokémon Company right now?? I get they've always been in the business to make money off of anything they can slap a Pikachu face on but in the past few years, they've seem to gone completely mad with greed. Going all in on microtransaction-heavy mobile games largely targeting children, partnering with a company as foul as Tencent, releasing games that are clearly unfinished and/or buggy and now the news of them expressing interest in the whole blockchain/NFT scheme. The company has always been greedy, yes but at least they were able to maintain some semblance of decency.

Re: Mario Movie Improves On Characters Who Didn't Have "Much Of A Personality", Says Director

OstianOwl

"Not much personality"? I see we're continuing the narrative that characters absolutely need to have complex storylines/motivations in order to have "personality" when golden age characters like Mickey Mouse, Popeye, or the Looney Tunes tend to have straightforward stories but easily identifiable and beloved personalities. The Mario cast is no different with the voice talents and animation in the games communicating their personalities with very few words.
Still looking forward to seeing this movie but wow, this guy is really passively taking a slap at not only the games' animators but at professional voice actors, which is ironic when the movie features the likes of Kevin Michael Richardson (as well as celebrities well-versed in voice acting like Jack Black and Keegan-Michael Key).

Re: Capcom Ending Resident Evil 7 Cloud Rental Service On Switch

OstianOwl

Stuff like this is why I find cloud gaming so horrifying: you never actually own a copy of the game you pay full price for and the publisher can just choose to shut down their server and make the game inaccessible whenever they please. This is a very audience-hostile direction for the industry to go.
The fact that most cloud versions of games tend to be the worst way to experience these games is just the icing on this awful cake.

Re: Random: Looks Like Hollywood's Super Nintendo World Desserts Are A Downgrade On Japan's

OstianOwl

It looks good still but not sure what the point would be at a Nintendo theme park in ordering a cake that doesn't even look like the one from Mario 64 when I could easily just commission a cupcake that looks just like it from a local bakery/sweet shop for much less.
If I'm going to buy overpriced snacks at a theme park, I would at least want the novelty of getting something I couldn't easily get elsewhere.
