Gotta be honest, the direct was cool and all but I was really hoping they’d pull out all the stops, so to see things missing from its predecessor at the price point isn’t a good look
Huh, just when they had a chance to say hey, we got a more powerful console for less than the switch 2.
But I guess it must be a rough time to manufacture things like this. People are strapped for cash, so you need to keep the price down, but at the same time it’s becoming more expensive to manufacture stuff.
Not really a great situation for anyone involved, is it?
And it doesn’t help they have to keep investors happy who will abandon ship if your business is 1 cent less profitable than the same time last year. That’s not making a loss, mind you, that’s just making slightly less profit.
I have a great respect for the lads and lassies over at toys for bob, if they did get the chance to do banjo, I recon they’d probably do a pretty good job.
Though it’s criminal there hasn’t been a new Spyro title either… his remake trilogy sold really well, when do he get his modern sequel?
The thing that strikes me about this list is how good a deal the game boy colour was. Launched cheaper than the original model! Although, I guess it was an enhanced GB that launched waaaaay after the original. I guess they had gotten cheaper to manufacture by then
@N00BiSH in my experience, people can be triggered by anything, so there’s a high chance this will trigger someone enough to make another YT video about it
I have to wonder if these increased prices are the flip side of Nintendo not laying off massive parts of their workforce when the profits aren’t as large as they were this time last year, or not including battlepasses and loot boxes in full priced games?
I’d much rather pay the 80 upfront than paying 60 and being bombarded with “buy this character bundle for 15 bucks!” Or “hey, he’s an actual advert interrupting your game.”
Mind you, I’d much rather we find a solution that makes most people happy. All this extreme anger (some of which is warranted, some not so much) is just, really upsetting.
I just want to settle in and be able to look forward to something, Y’know?
I wonder if this is the other side of the coin to not firing masses of employees like the rest of the industry has the last few years, or not stuffing your games with battle passes and other micro transactions
Yes, I think Nintendo have fumbled the bag quite considerably, by not being clear in their information it’s causing mass confusion and outrage. How much of it is deserved and how much of it is fuelled by misconceptions, I haven’t a clue, there’s conflicting information because there is very little official statements on the subject. Which, to be clear, is a big mistake.
They needed to be clear in their communication. They’ve been very much not that
@Gkobz I’ve tried looking it up and there’s a lot of conflicting information on this subject, with little actual sourcing. (This is Nintendos fault for not clarifying things, leading to mass confusion) Can you please link me to a source for the 90 price tag?
Logically, it should cost less to buy it digitally, because they don’t have to physically make the cartridges, the packaging, the cost to ship it to stores etc. To be honest, it should ALWAYS have been cheaper to go digital. However, if they are inflating the base price unnaturally, that still not on. I usually went physical with my switch one games because it was simply cheaper that way. Now I might reconsider.
I mean, why even make it in the first place if you want people to pay for it?
“Allo’ monsieur, welcom’ to your very expensive hotel room, would you like a novella featuring a detailed explaination for how your plumbing works? For a fee of course. It has cartoons in it!”
“Eh, no thanks, I spent a lot of money on this hotel room, I’d rather save my money on a book I actually want to read, thanks.”
“Sacre bleu! Why does no one want to pay for our plumbing book? We spent money making it!”
Oh, well, that’s typical Nintendo weirdness for you. I can’t see any reason for doing part of a soundtrack other than padding the release schedule… which is admittedly a bit worrying. Makes me worry some of the less mainstream titles might be forgotten about… Stuff like Paper Mario, Princess Peach Showtime, stuff like that, they got loads of stuff to choose from, so why are they already resorting to padding?
I played it, was certainly enjoyable, but it did have a number of problems when I played it. Like, some blatantly obvious problems. They have fixed the game breaking one (namely the fact that the shop, who they even introduced a character for, was completely in accessible)
But it is good, it’s definitely more DKC than Crash bandicoot (although I feel crash is the closest thing to a 3D DKC anyway), and it does have David Wise, maybe not at his A game but still some great tunes (I particularly love the theme for “pump and dump”)
Glad to hear the directors cut is free, I’d be pretty miffed if they made me pay for it again,

Re: Sony Vet Shuhei Yoshida Says Nintendo Is "Losing Their Identity" With Switch 2
I mean, maybe, maybe not. I think this is more a “we’ll see how things go throughout the generation.”
You never know when Nintendo will drop something like Labo, ring fit adventure or an alarm clock.
Right now, I’d say “mmmmmm, don’t think so”. But give it a few years. Maybe it will be the end of Nintendos identity. We shall see

Good. It’s expensive enough as it is, so to have people trying to take you for a ride even further is despicable

I thoroughly disagree, and I’m very much not alone on that, that’s one of the better mascot racing games out there!

Are you not concerned about burning away the goodwill you’ve built over the previous generation?
Don’t you think this is a very dangerous and out of touch way to operate your business?
Re: Nintendo Understands Switch Owners May Not Be "Ready To Jump To Switch 2"
Makes perfect sense, and the two new titles announced for switch 1 aren’t too taxing, so it makes sense not to make them switch 2 exclusive.
Might end up being a PS2/PS3 situation where the older model sticks around for much of its successors lifespan, as the more affordable option
