Looks really fun! I loved Odyssey, so if this is the same caliber I will pick up a Switch 2 for it. Disappointing to hear about frame drops since Odyssey was so rock solid on older hardware.
Sadly I have finished all of the StarCraft campaigns, from the original / Brood War all the way up through Nova Covert Ops. All of SC2 was on hard mode. I enjoyed it enough I'm tempted to replay on Brutal. Instead I'm playing some Vs AI to train up to 1v1. I'm sure I'll be Bronze or Silver league at best, but it seems fun. I'll probably wait until I have better internet bandwidth to try it.
Also, I gave up on Suikoden 1 about halfway through. But I finally started Suikoden 2. The inventory management in Suikoden 1 was just way too archaic and tedious, and Suikoden 2 vastly improves on it with the Bag and "optimize" feature, and also the story is much, much more interesting and memorable. So, I'm enjoying it! I feel so bad for Pilika. I'm enjoying it enough that I am debating going and finishing the first game.
A couple days ago I was really wanting one, checking in on several stores and not finding it. Then, I got into Suikoden 2 on the original Switch and decided I have enough to entertain me for a while without one. I'll wait a few weeks and hope it's more available after a while - maybe in time for DK if that turns out to be a banger by all accounts.
That EU cover is... something. So much empty green space, and two copies each of DK and Diddy. It looks slapped together from different pieces of promo art. The NA cover is kinda rad though. JP unremarkable.
I tried and failed to locate a Switch 2 in my local area. Was thinking of picking up Mario Kart World and Cyberpunk. Well, it's back to more StarCraft 2 (Nova Covert Ops) and maybe a bit of Suikoden 2. And as always, Monster Train 2.
It looks great! I loved Mario Odyssey and this seems like a worthy followup. I'll wait for reviews, though. If reaction is really positive I'll pick up a Switch 2 for this.
Nothing particular I can think of... I just want it to be really good! If it's Mario Odyssey level in terms of gameplay quality I will pick up a Switch 2 for it, but that's a very high bar. DK might feel a bit lumbering compared to Mario's ultra-smooth moveset so I'm a little hesitant. I really want a Switch 2, but I need a good "excuse" for it and Mario Kart isn't really my thing.
No Switch 2 yet. May pick one up if DK Bananza is a 10/10, otherwise will probably wait until a killer app like Mario or Zelda.
Until then, StarCraft has sucked me in yet again. Played through all of SC1 + Brood War, now on the SC2 trilogy up to Legacy of the Void. Great fun. Picked up game pass just for that. Also playing Monster Train 2 a lot, which I stupidly paid $25 for not knowing it was also free on game pass. Someday will get back to Suikoden 2.
Caning the Switch 2? Dear lord what did it do to you? I guess that's some Brit slang for you but to us Americans it only recalls that kid in Singapore that was caned in the 90s.
It seems like there's not much to the open world. That's pretty disappointing. I'm not much of a multiplayer guy so I was hoping for a really robust single player campaign. I thought Diddy Kong Racing did this really well with the bosses, why can't we have something like that? Or F-Zero GX for that matter. If it's just driving through rings for stickers and not really unique, creative challenges, I'm not that interested.
Very weird choice to have extra features use a phone, unless they just want to promote their app. The voice acting for Zelda was always prettying annoying, so I don't feel the need to listen to that. The performance and resolution improvements are tempting, but I don't feel a strong need to go back to BOTW or TOTK just yet when there are so many other things to play.
I was listening to some of the StarCraft 1 music on youtube and that was a mistake, because it sucked me into a StarCraft rabbit hole and I accidentally bought StarCraft Remastered and am playing through all six campaigns. After that I may or may not play through the SC2 trilogy all over again.
Aside from that, I am playing Monster Train 2 and might play Suikoden 2 off and on.
Monster Train 2 baby! And I've mostly given up on Suikoden 1 because managing the inventory of dozens of characters was so tedious. I've started Suikoden 2, hopefully I'll enjoy that more.
@Solomon_Rambling I've only played one run. Enjoying it so far! It will take me a while to get familiar with all the new mechanics. It seems to be encouraging moving your characters around a lot more, instead of just sticking your tank in front to absorb all the damage, so that makes things a bit more dynamic and interesting. I'm looking forward to sinking 100 more hours into this.
Monster Train 1 is amazing and addictive. Picked up MT2 immediately on steam before I realized it was on Switch. It's getting rave reviews. Check it out if you like Slay the Spire.
Sorry, but the F -Zero characters have always been stupid and corny. I mean, I love them for that and hope that never changes. But you you don't need to show them on the box art. F-Zero is about the racing. So I voted NA.
Probably not? I mean, I only have one friend I can think of who would do this and it's been ages since we've played anything together online anyway. I'm more of a single player person. That said, if I do eventually get a S2 and Mario Kart World I would for sure try out the knockout tournament mode thing with randos, that sounds pretty fun. I just don't need to like, see their faces or hear their voices while I do it.
I mean yes, but not because of the price changes. If I really wanted Mario Kart World or whatever, I would get it. But I am judt too busy with other things.
What, Tiny Metal better than both WarGroove and Advance Wars? Could it be? I love the latter two. I tried one of the Tiny Metal games and it just did not hold my interest. Really aggressive fog of war meant I mostly got stuck in tedious attrition matches in the mountains, not making any progress. Eventually gave up on it. But, maybe I was just doing it wrong, though.
Finding myself still putting more hours in Monster Train. Really cannot stop. Lord help me when a MT2 comes out soon.
Still plinking away at Suikoden 1 when I have time. It's pretty fun overall but unremarkable. Feels like what it is, a very early JRPG. The inventory system is godawful. But it's entertaining enough. Just want to get through to Suikoden 2.
Pikmin 1 is kind of a perfect game. Honestly I wouldn't change anything about it, except to give it twice as many areas. Pikmin 4 is probably the better game in some ways, and has like 4x the content, but there's something about the... purity of Pikmin 1 that makes me always want to come back to it.
I am planning on waiting for a while and see how reviews are. I was planning on doing the same thing with Switch 1 but after all the BotW 10/10 reviews I couldn't bear it and ended up getting a scalped copy. I know, I know, I feel bad for rewarding scalpers. Hopefully this won't happen to me with Switch 2. Anyway I am too busy with my own game dev now to put in a huge number of hours on Switch 2 just yet.
I enjoyed Fast RMX at the Switch launch so I have hopes this will be good too! This kind of game should benefit a lot from the increased horsepower. The Fusion mechanic doesn't do much for me as a hook - I don't care much about choosing vehicles, I just want to race. It does lend itself to a catchy name, though.
NA easily. I can appreciate a more minimalist vibe but JP doesn'ft work for me here - it seems very... orange. When I think of Pikmin I think of more subdued, natural colors like green, blue and brown.
I sure love Pikmin 1. I don't know if it's the best in the series (that's probably 4) but it's so tight and approachable and replayable and it does not waste a single minute of your time with filler content like caves.
It looks pretty good. I'll wait on reviews. I'm mostly a single player guy but it looks like it has a robust single player mode with ton of content and secrets in the open world so I might pick it up for that.
Just waiting for the Mario Kart direct. Hoping for a very robust single player mode with a lot of exploration. Mario Kart's not usually my thing but if they do it really well I might have to pick it up.
If you counted launch year, I would maybe give it to Switch, with the one-two punch of BOTW and Mario Odyssey. Since you're only counting day one.... I had to give it to N64. Best single launch game ever, even if there was quite a dearth after that.
Mario Kart, Metroid Prime 4, DK, and the Zelda upgrades all have my attention. And Fast Fusion (Fast RMX was pretty great but not quite F-Zero GX great - hoping this remedies that.) It's a great lineup. Still, I'll wait for a couple more heavy hitters before I drop my cash.
Hmm, all these impressions focus on the graphics and controls, but I wonder if there is a real gameplay "hook" here. I wonder what else Retro has been hiding.
FFVIIRemake is alright but Rebirth is the main event. It adds so much to the combat and the pacing is better since the sidequests don't disappear when the story moves on. And Queen's Blood! It's not a perfect game and it's a bit bloated and formulaic, but it was a great time for me and way better than Intergrade. Anyway, hopefully that will get a release too eventually.
I'd give it an 8. Mario Kart World looks pretty dang great but I'm not a huge Mario Kart fan so it's not enough to get me there on launch day, especially at the high price. I'm intrigued by the new DK but I'm really missing a new Mario or Zelda mainline entry that would force me to get this day one. Still, a From Software exclusive? Silksong? Impressive.
Yeah this one was pretty weak other than Metroid Prime 4 which looks great. I gave it 5/10. Without Metroid it would be 3/10 for me. Mostly a lot of cozy life sim type games and lot of ports of very old games. I might pick up Patapon though.
This makes a lot of sense to me. Switch has sold 130M copies, they won't just abandon it. And it should not be put into the same direct as the Switch 2. The Switch 2 has so much anticipation that any Switch 1 news would just be anticlimactic. On the other hand if they put it in this separate direct and make it cleae there will be no Switch 2 news, fans can put it proper context and appreciate it in its own right. The Switch 2 is waining a bit but still has legs.
No need for a remake. I think the original holds up just fine. Just needs a few quality of life upgrades. I enjoyed HD-2D games (Triangle Strategy and Octopath Traveler 2 were both great) but not everything has to be in that style.
I'd love to see a sequel but somehow I'm not interested in a AAA product like FFVII Rebirth despite how much I enjoyed that game. I want more of that lush, soft look of the art from Trigger and Cross.
I started Suikoden I. I've heard of these games for years as being some of the greatest ever made so I finally made the plunge now that they are on Switch. Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (22nd February)
I breezed through "A Short Hike". Great game! I find myself wishing it were a slightly longer hike. The storyline was simple but charming. I found the map design to be pretty unique and the exploration was satisfying.
Then I picked up Monster Train for $2.99 on sale on Steam. It's a deck builder roguelike somewhat similar to Slay the Spire. NOT RECOMMENDED if you have actual adult things to do as it is highly addictive and fun.
