Really hard to choose between Prime and Super. At one point Super Metroid was my favorite game of all time. But Metroid Prime is a damn masterpiece. Well, they both are! But I think I will give it to Prime for how much it blew me away back in 2002.
I already have a Switch and the OLED model doesn't seem worth upgrading for. Steam Deck on the other hand... sounds rather tempting considering the enormous Steam library. Realistically though I probably won't get it anytime soon.
Hmm. It's kinda hard for me to see why you would love a bad game. A bad movie you can enjoy while making fun of it, but a bad game? If it isn't fun to play, it isn't fun to play. Of course there are flawed games that I like. The first one that comes to mind is the PC RPG Arcanum that had great worldbuilding with a very wonky and confusing battle system.
@blindsquarrel You get to go to a new area, but you don't get to really explore it the way you could in older games. There's always pre-set paths with puzzles you have to solve. That is what I meant. (At least in my memory. I haven't played it since it came out.)
I did not enjoy this game very much. The over-tutorializing was only the tip of the iceberg of problems I had with it. The motion controls didn't work that well for me, for starters.
But there's a deeper problem I have with it that's baked into the core of the game's structure and so can't be fixed with simple QoL improvements, and that's the excessive puzzling and linearity. Zelda games usually have a nice mix between a) free-roaming exploration of towns and outdoor areas and b) dungeons, which makes for very nice pacing. When I finish a dungeon, my reward is that I get to explore a new area.
In SS, this is basically gone. There is almost no (a) as ALL the towns and outdoor areas other than those in the sky are a series of puzzles that must be completed in a particular order like a dungeon. For me this makes everything a slog. I really like the freedom of just wandering around for a while exploring and talking to the locals, soaking in the unique worlds Zelda games always present. This game completely took that away and is the poorer for it.
Sad to hear, but on the other hand, I want this game to be as amazingly deep as the first game and that will take some time. I hope Team Cherry takes as long as they need. And that they get to take well-deserved breaks too.
Thanks for all the good shmup recommendations everybody! Sounds like the Switch is a great platform for the genre. I'll have to check some of these out and pick one to buy!
What's the best shmup on Switch for someone who doesn't play shmups? This or Ikaruga? I was always bad at these games but I found that they are fun on the SNES on Switch if I make constant use of save-states to avoid all the repetition and memorization.
Ryu would be a great fit. I mean yes he is a sword fighter, but he has a very different style. He's also a classic character from the NES days which gives him big bonus points in my book - I'm not as much a fan of characters coming in from JRPGs or whatever from just a few years ago. For me they have to have solidly earned their place in the gaming pantheon, and Ryu is surely up there with the greats.
@GrailUK Who says they're ruining anybody's fun? They're just making things more interesting. People are talking about it more now aren't they? I think it's more fun, not less, when there are some bad guys to root against.
Of course, if they kept doing this all the time, it would get old fast. So hopefully they restrain themselves.
@Kobeskillz Someone wrote a script to continually change their avatar with new screenshots of an ongoing Pokemon game. Others play the game by commenting with a vote on button inputs.
Come on folks. They're just griefers in a game. Wasn't that a big part of these experiments to begin with? To find out if a bunch of random people could work together or not? These guys are just playing the villain part. They're following all the rules, not doing anything wrong. I mean yes, they are acting like a-holes, but that just makes things more interesting. I for one applaud the chaos.
I made a vow to the gods long ago to buy every 3D Mario game, so I have no choice. I never had a Wii U so I can't wait to dive into this one after work. Bowser's Fury sounds amazing. Playing Blue Fire lately with its fun but somewhat finicky platforming has made me long for that Nintendo polish.
I hope it's good for single-player though - it looks like it was designed around multiplayer and I don't have anyone to play it with atm.
This article is... weird. It's basically saying "There's no real reason game prices should be this high, except for the most basic, nigh-universal law of economics, supply and demand. Someone should do something about that."
High used game prices are great. Great for the owners to make a quick buck, great for brick-and-mortar ma-and-pa used games stores to keep up a business. The only ones who it's slightly less good for are the ones who want the games and don't feel like ponying up the cash, and it's hard for me to feel too sorry for them. After all, you don't need to collect retro games. It's not some human right like food, water, shelter. And the author doesn't even play them.
I enjoy this kind of game, but really, those trees? They're almost identical to the ones in Link's Awakening, and that's such a signature Zelda style. Not to mention the bushes, bottles, and many other sprites as well. There's a difference between homage and theft. I wish the devs would be a bit more creative.
Reading between the lines, they sound a bit miffed in that last paragraph. "Next time, ask us first, idiots." I can't blame them - IIRC this was a feature already publicized to consumers. It was a bit irresponsible of Rare to advertise this feature before they knew it was safe. Still, nature of the beast - Rare was always pushing the envelope on hardware limitations and that was part of what made them great.
I've been watching a lot of Trek lately (TNG and, now, DS9) and thinking about how good a good Trek game could be. Trek has a great universe built up with many interesting cultures and ideas to take advantage of.
I'm envisioning something like Mass Effect but much more open-ended and with a lot of ship and crew customization and an emphasis on dialogue and decision making over combat. Each quest would basically be a mini-episode - investigating some anomaly, moral quandaries about the Prime Directive, etc., political intrigue between the various empires, etc. I'd want it to be with a new ship and crew, not one of the ones from the show, although characters from the shows could make guest appearances from time to time. Ideally it would pull from the 90's shows and ignore the post-JJ Abrams world.
Mario's fake impalement was hilarious. It would've been even funnier with Princess Peach or Zelda.
This is pretty cool. I wish though that if they were going to go Final Fantasy they would've taken someone from a different game - like Terra, or maybe one of the Heroes of Light from FF1.
@mariomaster96 That's the first thing I thought of too! Man, if they had an FF soundtrack lineup as strong as the one for Castlevania, the DLC would be worth it just for that.
Impressive port. Looks really fun. The original game made me a bit nauseous though, due to the frenetic movement, so I can't play it. Also I'm not a fan of the gross kill animations - I just want to shoot stuff, not stop everything to watch the same eye-ripping play out that I've seen a hundred times before.
This series just seems so... un-Zelda like to me. Zelda was never about slashing zillions of enemies, and the two just don't seem to fit for me. But for those who enjoy it - have fun!
I'm not interested in Pokemon unless they massively revamp the battle system. I haven't played since the original Silver, but it looks like battles haven't evolved much since then. Time to do something more interesting.
Then again, Sword and Silver sold almost 20 million copies, so who am I to give Nintendo advice.
Have to go with 3D. I loved the 2d games back in the day and I enjoyed the Link's Awakening remake. But whenever a brand new 3D Zelda comes out I just lose my mind with hype.
I may eventually get a PS5, but for now it's PS4 and Switch for me. It will take a couple years to get enough big PS5 exclusives to really make me get the upgrade.
This looks extremely fun! If I was a kid I would be absolutely begging for this (although I wouldn't get it unless I paid for it myself, because my parents didn't usually spoil me with $100 gifts.) Imagine how much I could've annoyed my parents or brothers with this by following them around as they tried to work.
As an adult... I feel like I would play with this for an hour or so and then get bored and go check Twitter again or something. Sigh. How boring I am now. Maybe someday if I have my own kids...
@TJWorks All this time. All these years with Mario, and I never noticed that Mario's moustache doesn't match his hair. Now I wonder if the carpet matches the drapes...
@Harmonie My thoughts as well. I was just thinking the other day how fun a Pokemon Snap game would be if it offered free-form movement. Oh well, on-rails would probably be pretty fun too. Come to think of it, an on-rails version in real VR would be amazing (not that that will ever happen.)
Oh man, I would play any of these. Even just a straight-up port of Mario 64 would probably get my money. I don't know that these need to be in a collection - all of the 3D games are overflowing with content and are worth buying individually.

Re: Triangle Strategy Has Sold 800,000 Copies In Just Two Weeks
It's a great game, deserves every sale. Yes they should cut down on the dialogue a bit but I find the story very interesting as well!

@tonyjayo Yes please!! I'd love HD remakes of OoT and Majora's Mask.
Re: Soapbox: Space Jam 2 Is A Video Game Cash-In That Doesn't Quite Get It Right
Too bad. I remember enjoying the first one as a kid when it came out. I was hoping this would be fun.
But complaining about video games not being accurately portrayed? Ehhhh. It's a storytelling device and it's a goofy kids' movie anyway.
Re: Poll: So, Will You Be Getting A Switch OLED Or Valve Steam Deck?
