Re: Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit Uses Real RC Cars And Augmented Reality

This looks extremely fun! If I was a kid I would be absolutely begging for this (although I wouldn't get it unless I paid for it myself, because my parents didn't usually spoil me with $100 gifts.) Imagine how much I could've annoyed my parents or brothers with this by following them around as they tried to work.

As an adult... I feel like I would play with this for an hour or so and then get bored and go check Twitter again or something. Sigh. How boring I am now. Maybe someday if I have my own kids...

Re: A New Pokémon Snap Game Is In Development For Nintendo Switch

@Harmonie My thoughts as well. I was just thinking the other day how fun a Pokemon Snap game would be if it offered free-form movement. Oh well, on-rails would probably be pretty fun too. Come to think of it, an on-rails version in real VR would be amazing (not that that will ever happen.)

Re: A Nintendo Direct Mini Has Just Been Shadow-Dropped, Watch It Here

Pretty good direct! A ton of nice ports. Excited to get X-Com 2 - I played the first and loved it but never tried the sequel. Hopefully it is a decent port. I think there were a lot of performance issues on PC.

Xenoblade and Bravely Default 2 look beautiful and fun. Buuut I cannot tolerate the very cliched, corny stories and JRPG tropes. Honestly I feel like I could handle it better without the voice acting. I love classic JRPGs like FFVI but I'm sure if you added voice acting to that I would be rolling my eyes.

Nice to see Catherine. But where is Persona 5? I wonder if they have an exclusivity deal with Sony.

Re: Feature: Game Of The Decade Staff Picks - Super Mario Galaxy 2

wollywoo

@Franklin Hmm, I get that complaint about Odyssey, but to me it felt like the same complaint could be made about Galaxy 1 & 2, maybe more so. The levels there are literally different planets with nothing to do with each other. To me that's part of the appeal - in playing those games I had no clue what crazy thing was coming next. It felt like the designers made the game based on a series of anything-goes brainstorming, and I love it. The only 3D Mario game with a single coherent world was Sunshine, and everybody complained about the sameness of the theming (although I loved that one also.)

Re: Feature: Our Most Anticipated Nintendo Switch Games Of 2020

wollywoo

Hmm, seems like a slow year to me. Not super interested in anything other than BOTW2 and Metroid, and I seriously doubt MP4 is coming this year. BOTW2 has a better chance I'd guess, since it is using an established engine (and had a real trailer out already.)

Nintendo always has a trick up its sleeve, though, and will probably has some big surprises at E3. Odyssey 2 maybe...?

Re: Review: The Talos Principle: Deluxe Edition - Still A Fine First-Person Puzzler Five Years On

Sounds great! Have been hearing good things about this one for a long time. Great to hear it’s a competent port. I loved Portal and The Witness so this seems right up my alley. I just got Luigi’s Mansion 3, so that should keep me busy for a while, but I’ll probably pick this one up next. Great for the holidays when I have some freetime at my Parents’ home where I don’t want to bother bringing another console.

Re: Review: Neverwinter Nights: Enhanced Edition - An Unforgivably Sloppy Port Of A Genre Classic

wollywoo

Too bad. I played the original a little but never got into it myself. After playing Baldur's Gate it was a bit boring only controlling one dude (plus a sidekick) instead of seeing the mayhem of six murder machines going at it simultaneously. I'm sure there was fun to be had with the multiplayer but I never tried that.

Now please do KOTOR! This would be a much easier port since it was designed from the ground up with consoles in mind. While you're at it: KOTOR 3.

Re: Video: Legend Of Zelda Fan Spends 24 Hours In Ocarina Of Time VR

I think a Mario game could be great in VR, if Mario was a pretty small character that just jumped around miniature toy-like levels kinda like Moss. Would also be fun to have AR that would allow Mario to jump around and interact with real objects in your living room, but I'm not sure if the tech is there yet with the kind of fidelity that would be required..

Captain Toad seems like it would also be great in VR, with little stages you could look at from different angles to find secrets. (I sometimes wonder if it came out of VR experiments at Nintendo...)

Re: The Legend Of Zelda Is Coming To Super Mario Maker 2

wollywoo

This update looks amazing! I had a lot of fun with SMM2 but fell off it after a while as I couldn't think of any new stage ideas that hadn't been done to death. The Ninji speedrun idea looks really fun, although I wish they could apply it to fan-made stages! I'll definitely check this out on the 5th.

@TechaNinja That's the whole point! Updates like this give this game legs. And it means that people are continuously talking about and (especially) streaming this game which draws attention to the game to those who don't already have it - especially the ones who have just bought a Lite and are looking for something to play on it. Nintendo games are well-known for having a ton of longevity, with strong sales years after they release, so boosting that tail is a smart move.

Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl #16 - Banjo-Tooie

wollywoo

Japan for sure. It's the only one to give full-body poses of the characters. The EU cover just confused me, for a while I thought Kazooie's talon was Banjo's paw holding her up and was up with his thumb. But all lose points because of the boring backgrounds - it should have been one of the locations from the game, not just clouds. The box art for the original BK is much more dynamic and full of detail.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (November 2nd)

wollywoo

I finally played A Hat In Time on Switch for twenty minutes or so. I like the upbeat vibe and it seems right up my alley, but MAN this game has performance issues. The framerate is all over the place. It honestly doesn't look great either, with a lot of weird, wooden animations and simple textures and geometry. Compared to something like Mario Odyssey, which has beautiful, complicated worlds AND a solid framerate, this is pretty disappointing. I realize this is an indie game, but I wish they had spent more time on optimization. Not sure if I will continue - maybe should wait for a patch?

Edit: I should mention that the music is fully orchestrated and sounds great!
