Re: Super Meat Boy Brings Brutal 3D Platforming To Switch 2 This Year

wollywoo

Ed's doin' just fine with Binding of Isaac and Mewgenics and I don't think he's had anything bad to say about this project so I don't really care if he's involved or not. I just want to know if it's good. It all depends on how good it feels to play. Super Meat Boy absolutely nailed the controls and it's difficult to see how that would be recaptured in 3D, but if it can be done, I am absolutely the target audience as a huge fan of 3D platformers and of the original Super Meat Boy. If it gets decently good reviews than I will absolutely pick this up.

Mostly I am still playing Monster Train 2. I finally completed all the challenges but now the new DLC mode is kicking my ass. Geez that Life Mother has crazy hp.

Also been playing MewGenics now and then. It's fun but very frustrating when I lose a run due to weird random ***** because the runs are so lengthy. I also feel that I don't have a lot of options for choosing my builds. Maybe that expands more later.

Re: Ori Dev Shows 'No Rest For The Wicked' Running On Switch 2

wollywoo

Seems like a good fit for Switch! I played the Ori games on Switch 1 and loved them, especially the second one, so I'm very curious about this game. I don't like Diablo because just clicking my way through random dungeons isn't my thing, but this seems much more up my alley. I'm tempted to pick up the early access version but apparently it only has 30-40% of the world available yet so I'll just wait for the 1.0.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (14th February)

I picked up Mewgenics. Have put in about 10 hours so far and I'm enjoying it so far. Unfortunately my gaming time is still being eaten up mostly by Monster Train 2 for reason completely beyond my control, mainly that I'm addicted. I'm almost done with all of the challenges and I'll be sad when I'm done.

Re: Surprise! Braid: Anniversary Edition Nintendo Switch 2 Edition Just Dropped

wollywoo

It wasn't too surprising to me that the game had poor sales. Not because of Blow's opinions (which most people don't know or care about) but just because Braid is a game that really doesn't need any update. It was already beautiful the way it was. I might pick this up, though, because apparently it has a decent amount of new stuff and the original game is one of my all-time favorites.

As for Blow himself. Yeah, he has some terrible opinions and I was disappointed to learn he was a Trump supporter. But what can I say, the man has made some good games and has contributed a lot to the general discourse around video games. His philosophy of game design - that games should let you discover the "nature of the universe" by exploring the consequences of simple rules, rather than artificially introducing complexity - is pretty foundational for me.

Re: Poll: So, Do You Prefer Hollow Knight Or Silksong?

wollywoo

I really liked them both. It's hard to say which is better. Silksong is definitely more beautiful visually and the level design overall is more interesting. But I think Hollow Knight had slightly more interesting exploration as the world was a little more nonlinear if I remember correctly, and it didn't punish you as much for exploring it.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (31st January)

Lord help me but I just can't stop playing Monster Train 2. Especially after I realized there were more challenges that I haven't done.

I've also been picking away at Final Fantasy Tactics. I love how deep the character customization is and the story is very interesting as well.

I played some No Man's Sky with a buddy of mine. It's pretty fun to explore although it's not super deep.

And mainly, I'm waiting for Mewgenics to drop. Everything I hear about that game makes me think I will be putting an almost unhealthy number of hours into it.

Re: Review: Dispatch Nintendo Switch 2 Edition - A Cracking Superhero Caper, With Some Naughty Bits Covered Up

wollywoo

Well this is bizarre. I didn't think Nintendo was this puritanical in the year of our lord 2026. I mean it's an M-rated game. What's the big deal about a little nudity?

The game itself is great. Or rather, the TV show that makes up most of the game is great. Really smart writing - very funny with some emotional moments as well. The gameplay sections are kind of meh on their own although I didn't hate them. I'm excited to see what they do in Season 2.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (10th January)

I've become pretty addicted to Blue Prince. It's good! I was pretty skeptical that a Myst-like puzzle game could work with the roguelike elements, because the the core game design ideas seem almost antithetical. But it works surprisingly well. It can be very frustrating though at times, when you have an idea for a puzzle solution and you just can't make it work due to RNG. I kinda wish they had designed it would just a tad more choice and control. But still, something about this weird world really draws me in and I am extremely curious what happens in Room 46.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (3rd January)

Been playing a bit of No Man's Sky on Switch 2. It has some weird graphical glitches but it's a nice chill time collecting resources and getting upgrades. It has a lot of stuff to do but doesn't quite cohere into something very rewarding, at least to me.

I've also become addicted to Blue Prince. It's minimalist art is very pleasing on the eyes and ears and its mysteries are intriguing. The RNG element is pretty frustrating at times, though. Sometimes a day or two goes by and I make no progress, which is annoying.

And not a video game, but I am on the last episode of Plur1bus. I can't believe people say it's slow. I binged it over two days and can't wait to get another free trial of apple tv plus to watch season 2, and then cancel again.

Re: Talking Point: Does Switch 2 Have Nintendo's Best Launch Line-Up Ever?

wollywoo

For me it's a toss-up between N64 and Switch. N64 had quite a dearth of games, but it had Mario 64, what else do you need? Switch also had Breath of the Wild, say no more. Switch 2 had Mario Kart World and a bunch of ports. Not bad by any means, but it didn't have anything that lit the gaming world on fire like BOTW or Mario 64. And no, I'm not going to count the zillions of Switch 1 games in that lineup.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (27th December)

wollywoo

I played Dispatch. It's a great TV show and I enjoyed it tremendously. As a game it's pretty mediocre. I kinda wish it was put on Netflix instead of Steam. But overall - loved it.

I picked up No Man's Sky for Switch 2. I'm a little disappointed in the visuals compared to what I see in other people's videos. Maybe I should have picked it up for PC instead. But in any case, it's pretty neat. I don't quite have a good sense of the core gameplay loop other than looking at cool stuff and collecting resources. But I'm enjoying it so far.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (13th December)

wollywoo

I'm still "playing" Divinity: Original Sin 2 although I haven't picked it up in a week or two. If I keep playing a couple hours every two weeks it will take me like two years to beat this game. But I do enjoy it.

I've been more interested in the indie scene lately, picking up Beyond Horizons, an interesting sci-fi mystery/adventure game, and Patrick's Parabox, a brilliant mind-bending puzzle game.

Haven't touched the Switch 2 in quite a while but I know I will come back to it. Eventually I will probably play Prime 4, but I haven't been in a big hurry based on the mixed reception it got.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (13th December)

wollywoo

Well, I'd like to spend most of this weekend with the "game" called Godot - that is, working on my own game! But, I will save some time for other folks' games too. I am currently working VERY slowly through Divinity: Original Sin 2. I have also, god help me, got addicted once more to Monster Train 2 after swearing it off. Doing the daily challenge while listening to some podcast or other has become a nightly routine.

Meanwhile, I thought I'd check out some stuff from the indie scene - like Patrick's Parabox, an excellent, unconventional recursive sokobon. I might also pick up Blue Prince that I've heard so much about. And I'm thinking about Between Horizons, a sci-fi mystery game that looks neat. I probably won't have time for all three, though.

Re: Round Up: Everything Announced At The Game Awards 2025 - All Switch 1 & 2 Reveals

wollywoo

Divinity! Awesome trailer. But it's probably at least 2 years away considering how enormous these games are.

The Mega Man reveal was pretty neat, but I was kinda hoping it would be a 3D version. The 2D games are always great, but that's just been done so many times.

Other than that, honestly not much caught my interest.

edit: d'oh! How could I forget about a KOTOR sequel / "spiritual successor"? The trailer was pretty ambiguous so I leapt to google to confirm it was a single player RPG. I'm not a big Star Wars guy anymore but I would play the hell out of that.

Re: Best Metroid Games Of All Time

wollywoo

Really bizarre to me to try to rank Metroid Prime Trilogy, Metroid Prime Remastered, and Metroid Prime (GameCube) in the same list. Why would Prime be rated higher than Prime Remastered? Should just have Prime 1, 2, and 3 separately and that's all. But, eh, whatever.

I agree with the top 2! Super Metroid is one of the greatest games of all time and Prime was a more than worthy successor. Dread and Fusion are also excellent. The others in the series I haven't played to completion.

Re: Talking Point: Six Months Since Launch, How Would You Rate Switch 2?

wollywoo

Console is pretty good. I'm happy with the hardware. But there hasn't been much in the way of exclusives I'm interested in. Mario Kart World was just alright, I'm not a huge Mario Kart person though so I doubt I spent more than 10 hours or so with it. DK: Bananza was pretty fun and a good demo of the hardware capabilities, but to my mind it didn't quite reach the highs of Mario Odyssey or Mario Galaxy 2. Speaking of which, I played Mario Galaxy 1 and 2 on this thing, and those games are beautiful and very fun, especially 2. But of course, it also would've run great on Switch 1. Cyberpunk is also a great demo of the hardware, but I lost momentum on it and haven't picked it up in months.

Overall, I'm giving it a 7/10. I still feel like I'm waiting for the REAL heavy hitters in terms of software, like a new Zelda.
