I'm still "playing" Divinity: Original Sin 2 although I haven't picked it up in a week or two. If I keep playing a couple hours every two weeks it will take me like two years to beat this game. But I do enjoy it.
I've been more interested in the indie scene lately, picking up Beyond Horizons, an interesting sci-fi mystery/adventure game, and Patrick's Parabox, a brilliant mind-bending puzzle game.
Haven't touched the Switch 2 in quite a while but I know I will come back to it. Eventually I will probably play Prime 4, but I haven't been in a big hurry based on the mixed reception it got.
@darkswabber I know those games exist and I love them. But those aren't 4 and 5 to me as they don't have those numbers in the titles. I meant a 3D sequel.
This game is wonderful. So much variety. Why don't we have Rayman 4? I'd kill to know what a game like this could look like on modern hardware. Ubi, make it happen.
Well, I'd like to spend most of this weekend with the "game" called Godot - that is, working on my own game! But, I will save some time for other folks' games too. I am currently working VERY slowly through Divinity: Original Sin 2. I have also, god help me, got addicted once more to Monster Train 2 after swearing it off. Doing the daily challenge while listening to some podcast or other has become a nightly routine.
Meanwhile, I thought I'd check out some stuff from the indie scene - like Patrick's Parabox, an excellent, unconventional recursive sokobon. I might also pick up Blue Prince that I've heard so much about. And I'm thinking about Between Horizons, a sci-fi mystery game that looks neat. I probably won't have time for all three, though.
Divinity! Awesome trailer. But it's probably at least 2 years away considering how enormous these games are.
The Mega Man reveal was pretty neat, but I was kinda hoping it would be a 3D version. The 2D games are always great, but that's just been done so many times.
Other than that, honestly not much caught my interest.
edit: d'oh! How could I forget about a KOTOR sequel / "spiritual successor"? The trailer was pretty ambiguous so I leapt to google to confirm it was a single player RPG. I'm not a big Star Wars guy anymore but I would play the hell out of that.
Really bizarre to me to try to rank Metroid Prime Trilogy, Metroid Prime Remastered, and Metroid Prime (GameCube) in the same list. Why would Prime be rated higher than Prime Remastered? Should just have Prime 1, 2, and 3 separately and that's all. But, eh, whatever.
I agree with the top 2! Super Metroid is one of the greatest games of all time and Prime was a more than worthy successor. Dread and Fusion are also excellent. The others in the series I haven't played to completion.
Seems like the reaction is very mixed! How disappointing. I will probably play this eventually because I love Metroid but since the comments here aren't too glowing I'm not in any hurry.
@sportymariosonicmixx Well yes. But people are already up in arms about Nintendo's prices. If they started charging $5 more for physical releases people might riot.
I really miss instruction manuals. I would definitely pay for physical editions if they were a thing! Which is, I guess, the reason they aren't there, because the downloadable versions are more profitable so they don't want to incentivize physical copies. C'est la vie.
Console is pretty good. I'm happy with the hardware. But there hasn't been much in the way of exclusives I'm interested in. Mario Kart World was just alright, I'm not a huge Mario Kart person though so I doubt I spent more than 10 hours or so with it. DK: Bananza was pretty fun and a good demo of the hardware capabilities, but to my mind it didn't quite reach the highs of Mario Odyssey or Mario Galaxy 2. Speaking of which, I played Mario Galaxy 1 and 2 on this thing, and those games are beautiful and very fun, especially 2. But of course, it also would've run great on Switch 1. Cyberpunk is also a great demo of the hardware, but I lost momentum on it and haven't picked it up in months.
Overall, I'm giving it a 7/10. I still feel like I'm waiting for the REAL heavy hitters in terms of software, like a new Zelda.
I loved Octo 2 to pieces and I've listened to the incredible soundtrack almost non-stop since I played it. So I'm tempted by this. But I just don't have time to jump into a 100-hour story when I already have another story-heavy game I'm deep into (Divinity: Original Sin 2) not to mention a lot of non-gaming projects.
@Troubbble Definitely not 100+ hours for Triangle Strategy but I agree with your take. I really enjoyed that game, including the story, but there was WAY too much dialogue between combat missions and it seriously needed some cuts to the story.
I'm intrigued and tempted, but, I have a lot of other things to play at the moment. Eventually I'll probably pick this up. I hope it sells well so Nintendo will keep the Metroid love going.
I swore I was done but I ended up falling back into Monster Train 2. It's just the ideal podcast game. When I am done at the end of the day I end up going back to something familiar that I don't have to waste time figuring out. Still activates the ol' brain cells sometimes with interesting choices, though.
And for my "real" game, I am hoping to get back into Divinity: Original Sin 2 if I have time between my various projects.
I guess I'll reserve judgement as this game could still be great. But I dunno. Metroid to me is all about isolation and mood. I love the way Super Metroid communicates its simple story and characters with almost no words. I don't need anyone yapping in my ear!
For me it has to be NA. This is the console I group up with so I have way more nostalgia for it. And it shows some of the games! I don't know why you wouldn't highlight Mario, Zelda and so on.
I will be mostly working on some of my projects like my indie game, but I might squeeze in a little time for Divinity: Original Sin 2 which I am loving.
Looks OK. I hope it's good. It's very hard to get the tone down. Zelda is a whimsical adventure with a healthy dose of foreboding mixed in. It should make you feel that the world is ancient and full of mysteries. It should have a dose of humor but more of a light fantasy kind of humor, not Marvel--style quippy humor.
Basically, they need to just watch the intro to Wind Waker over and over and try to evoke that feeling. Princess Mononoke would be another good tone fit although it doesn't need to be quite as serious.
Of these I have only played DK and Silksong. Bananza was pretty fun but not quite GOTY material for me. Silksong was great and more GOTY-worthy although I never did Act 3. I haven't played E33 because it hasn't come to Switch 2 yet (crossing fingers!) I feel E33 will win just based on all the praise it has gotten.
I finished Galaxy 2 and I've become addicted to Divinity: Original Sin 2. So, I'll be playing that. But mostly I'll be working on developing my indie game, learning Pro Tools and trying to make music for said game, and rebuilding my porch.
Have mostly been only playing Mario Galaxy 2 recently. It's just so good. Possibly the best 3D platformer ever made.
I started Far Cry Primal. Played for about 20 minutes. It didn't really grab me.
I dropped back into Monster Train 2 for one run. I had sworn I was done with that game. But what can I say, it's the ultimate podcast/youtube type game for me.
Today I might get back into Divinity: Original Sin 2. I was loving that game but I dropped it a month ago when I moved recently. It doesn't have the same production value as Baldur's Gate 3 but it's just as addictive.
Xbox seems to have been mostly failing. They are propped up by a $1T conglomerate. They've bought their way into power with many corporate purchases, like Activision-Blizzard and Bethesda. But they can't make them exclusive, because that could open them up to devastating antitrust suits. So of course, for them exclusives are antiquated. Meanwhile Nintendo has a library of exclusives based on 40 years of development, mostly by their own employees. So they take a very different view.
Mario Galaxy 2. This game is so good! I played 1 and 2 on the Wii at the time 2 came out, but this time I am realizing how much better it is than Galaxy 1. More pure platforming goodness, less wandering around. Don't get me wrong, I love wandering around in games like Mario Odyssey, but the more open levels in Galaxy 1 are not as interesting and well-designed as the kingdoms of Odyssey. Galaxy 2 throws so many interesting ideas at you and each galaxy feels so unique.
Silksong. I "beat" this game by finishing Act 2, but I haven't figured out how to start Act 3 yet. I've picked this up a few more times but I don't know if I have the patience to get the best ending.
I've also played some obscure indie games.
Metal Garden. A friend gifted this to me. It's pretty good! Although definitely a no-budget game. It has an interesting world, with the game taking place inside one huge megastructure. Cool atmosphere. Feels a lot like Half-Life.
Trash the Planet. Free on Itch. https://thisgameishaunted.itch.io/trash-the-planet Kinda amazing idle clicker game. Very addictive, as these games are, but this one has an interesting story to it with a lot of very funny, well-written dialogue.
Mosaica. Cool, short "Metroidbrainia" type puzzle game. If you like The Witness you might check it out. https://ballyhoot.itch.io/mosaica
It's interesting that BOTW was an inspiration for Rebirth. They are very, very different! If anything Rebirth is much more like a typical open-world checklist type game. They have almost opposite design philosophies. I loved both games, though.
@Bowie1979 Yeah, and I found the missions to be so on-rails that I felt a bit trapped in them. I prefer where I can just wander around and do my thing. BOTW/TOTK were great at that. Or games like Mario Galaxy 2 which I am currently playing which is totally on-rails but is more "pure gameplay" where I can listen to a podcast while playing. Cyberpunk is certainly a good game, it feels a bit tiresome for me for some reason.
Having trouble getting excited for Prime 4. Prime 1 is one of my favorite games but this just looks like more of the same and doesn't do much to stick out of the sea of sci-fi shooters. If it gets rave reviews I will pick it up.
Too many things! I have been playing several very good games and not coming back just due to other distractions.
I "finished" Mario Galaxy 1 at 106 stars or so when I realized the rest of the game is only collecting 100 purple coins in most stages. I got all 120 back in the Wii days and I don't know how I managed the crazy Mario pixel art challenge. Will most likely start SMG2 today.
I moved recently and so lost momentum with Divinity: Original Sin 2, where I had just made it out of Fort Joy. I loved what I played and so I will come back.
I "finished" Silksong (Act 2). Loved what I played but not sure if I have the patience for Act 3. Not sure at the moment how to even get there (don't tell me.)
I also want to come back to Final Fantasy Tactics. Loved the crazy depth in the job system.
I played some WarGroove with a friend. We were going to play Advance Wars but that is still $50 or $60 or whatever on the eShop while WarGroove was only $6 on Steam, so I gifted it to him. The AI is quite bad but there are some 2P coop maps seemingly designed around the bad AI which give the AI a big advantage to make up for its dumbness. Man those types of games are fun.
@Destiny-Smasher Well, I don't have a DS. Anyway, I'm really waiting for a more modern, open-world, real time RPG with a compelling place to explore. From what I gather the Switch games are getting closer to this but aren't quite there yet. I want Pokemon to have its Breath of the Wild moment.
What's with anime/video game characters having that very specific cross-shaped scar you see here on the mullet dude in the JP version and also on Zangief. How would you even get that shape of scar? I guess they got slashed twice by happenstance in the same place from different angles.
Yup. Sorry not sorry, I love 3D Mario. Although I admit the price is steeper than necessary, for me it's worth it. These games are lovely. It's crazy the amount of detail put into objectives that only take a few minutes to finish.
I somehow find myself in a deluge of great games to play at the moment.
Final Fantasy Tactics Remastered - I played the original on PS1 when I was young but could never make it far. This time around I'm better understanding the nuance of the character customization and the job system. Holy hell, there are so many options and it's so deep! It's really addictive even if I've barely made a dent in the story. I just keep doing the random battles and leveling up jobs. It's fun.
Divinity: Original Sin 2. I had the CRPG itch and started this up. It's quite good! Really enjoying the story and the battles. I just made it to the point where I can escape Fort Joy but I am mopping up all the enemies and finishing the quests there.
Cyberpunk 2077. Actually it's been a couple weeks since I've played this, but I think I will come back to it. Enjoying it, but somehow I find that AAA games like this with zillions of lines of spoken dialogue tire me out quickly and I want to return to something snappier.
Hollow Knight: Silksong. Man, this game is good. It's just so beautiful to look at and feels great to play. I'm nearly to the end of Act 2, I think. I spent way too long on a certain battle arena only to find out it has seemingly infinite waves.
Super Mario Galaxy. This is one of my favorite games of all time so of course I had to pick it up. This and SMG2 always blend together in my mind because I originally played them back-to-back like one very long game. I'm finding picking up the star bits a little bit tedious with the touch controls. It's decent, but not as seemless as it was with the Wiimote. I kinda have to stop what I'm doing for a sec to use the touch screen and I find the motion controls for it to work poorly. But anyway, there's almost nothing as joyous in all of video games as launching yourself into orbit around one of the tiny planets.
Silksong, of course, which is great! I beat the Last Judge after umpteen attempts and so things are very interesting now. However, I've found myself unaccountably distracted by...
Divinity: Original Sin 2. I played through all of Baldur's Gate 3 around the time that came out and loved it, and found myself weirdly craving for another CRPG of that ilk. Well, D:OS2 does it! I'm still in early days, wandering around soaking up all the quests in Fort Joy before I move on. Enjoying it a lot! It's fun and sometimes frustrating in the same way BG3 was. I wish the UI was clearer, because at times it's hard to see which characters are which. And the damn black cat NPC keeps dying in stupid ways, making me re-start battles and losing progress. But overall, I am enjoying it a lot.
The FFVII Remake games get better as they go on. I recommend waiting until at least Rebirth comes. I enjoyed that much more than Remake, although I wouldn't say that is bad by any means.
She should know that since the leadership of Doug Bowser, Nintendo of America can ONLY be run by someone sharing a name with a famous Nintendo dragon-y monster.
Woohoo, this game is getting so much praise. 2025 is turning out to be a crazy year. Hades 2, Expedition 33, Donkey Kong Bananza, Silksong, and soon Ghosts of Yotei, any one of which could be GOTY worthy. I'll probably pick this up eventually on Switch 2, but Silksong has its hooks in me at the moment.

Have to say Silksong, with Bananza as a runner up.

Nice! I definitely want to play this at some point since it's been getting SUCH rave reviews. I'm not sure if I will play on Switch 2 or PC.
Now PLEASE bring us Claire Obscur!

JP by far. Not a big fan of the huge, ugly low-poly Samus taking up a fourth of the screen.
Re: Printable Metroid Prime 4 'Databook' Has Us Feeling Nostalgic For Instruction Booklets
I really miss instruction manuals. I would definitely pay for physical editions if they were a thing! Which is, I guess, the reason they aren't there, because the downloadable versions are more profitable so they don't want to incentivize physical copies. C'est la vie.

Finally finished Mario Galaxy 2 with 120 stars. What a fabulous game. Possibly the best Mario? Not going for the green stars, though.

Re: Review: Pokémon Legends: Z-A - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition - Stellar Battles, But A Step Down From Arceus
As a lapsed Pokéfan I keep waiting for the right one to jump in. I haven't played anything since Gold. It seems like all of the recent ones are lacking in one way or the other so I guess I will keep waiting.
Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl - Duel: Fatal Fury Special (SNES)
What's with anime/video game characters having that very specific cross-shaped scar you see here on the mullet dude in the JP version and also on Zangief. How would you even get that shape of scar? I guess they got slashed twice by happenstance in the same place from different angles.
Re: Review: Atelier Resleriana: The Red Alchemist & The White Guardian (Switch) - Moving Forward By Looking Back
That is certainly a JRPG name.
Re: Poll: So, Did You Get Super Mario Galaxy 1 + 2 For Switch?
Yup. Sorry not sorry, I love 3D Mario. Although I admit the price is steeper than necessary, for me it's worth it. These games are lovely. It's crazy the amount of detail put into objectives that only take a few minutes to finish.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (4th October)
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (27th September)
Re: Are You "Unsure" About Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade For Switch 2? Don't Worry, There'll Be A Demo
The FFVII Remake games get better as they go on. I recommend waiting until at least Rebirth comes. I enjoyed that much more than Remake, although I wouldn't say that is bad by any means.

@CaleBoi25 Make it happen! Tell your friends!
Re: Feature: Who Is Devon Pritchard? - Meet The Next NOA President Stepping Into Bowser's Boots
How dare she. The effrontery. The insolence.
She should know that since the leadership of Doug Bowser, Nintendo of America can ONLY be run by someone sharing a name with a famous Nintendo dragon-y monster.
But there's a solution.
I dub thee, Devon Pritcharizard. Godspeed.
Re: Round Up: The Reviews For Hades II On Switch And Switch 2 Are In
Woohoo, this game is getting so much praise.

Oh thank god, I hate spolers!
