Zelda games don't have a "deep" story in terms of the usual metrics I would measure other stories by, like the characters and dialogue. What it does have is a great, evocative setting and heaps of childlike charm. I just love getting absorbed into these goofy worlds. You can't measure it against Anna Karenina or something, but it is wonderful in its own way.
I finished Banjo-Kazooie 100% on NSO. Great game, holds up pretty well. Except for the last fight with Gruntilda where the camera goes ***** every time you launch an egg for some reason which makes it almost impossible to aim. That fight was way harder than I remember.
I played Grim Fandango. I play through it once every ten years or so and it holds up so well. Don't be afraid to use a guide as the puzzles in this game are definitely in the "use every item on every possible thing" variety and you will NOT guess some of them otherwise. But the atmosphere, art, setting, music, writing and voice acting are all just top-notch and it leaves an incredible impression.
I played a bit more of Super Meat Boy 3D. It's pretty fun, even the frame rate is pretty poor on Switch 2. After a while I didn't notice.
Ocarina for sure. Still one of the best games in the series and has some absolutely amazing dungeons. It had the 3DS remake but c'mon, we need an HD version!
Original NES game would be interesting. But after playing Binding of Isaac I've had in the back of my head a full re-imagining with a ton of new, crazy content and unpredictable stuff. Imagine bombing a wall and it reveals a cave with an item that can rewind time, or turn everything upside down, or make duplicate copies of Link, or give you a dog companion, or make you undead. Just fill it to the brim with weird, surprising secrets like that - don't telegraph them to the player at all and just let them be discovered. I think the open-ended but simple nature of LoZ world design would be great for this.
Picked up Super Meat Boy 3D which is fun although the frame rate sucks at times on Switch 2
I got into the beta for Twisted Tower which is a kinda Bioshock-like on PC where you explore a big tower that's somehow also an abandoned theme park. It's pretty good! Great atmosphere. You shoot a lot of dudes and the combat is pretty standard stuff for the most part with the typical pistol, shotgun, chain gun and so on although they're amusement park themed. It's not doing anything super special or new but I'd recommend it for the unique setting.
I picked up a couple other indie games. Way of Rhea is a puzzle platformer that I'm enjoying so far an hour or so in. And Arcane Investigations, a Phoenix-Wright like (haven't tried it yet.)
Oh and I'm playing Kena: Bridge of Spirits which I'm enjoying so far but a bit distracted by other games.
I picked this up. Got through the first world and enjoyed it quite a bit! Controls felt weird and stiff at first, but immediately felt better when I took off the 45-degree angle lock.
Got to the second world and was quite taken aback by the performance drop. First world seemed like a solid 60 while the second world was... not. Bit disappointing! I know the Switch can handle this, games like Bananza run smooth as butter with much more complexity. I don't care if you lose all the detail and Meat Boy becomes a perfect cube, I would rather have 60FPS.
Voted EU/JP. It's pretty bad (why is the dude so... blue?) but at least he looks like he's ready to fight. The USA characters look they're more interested in forming a boy band.
I uninstalled Monster Train 2 to force myself to stop playing after an ungodly number of hours in it.
I finished Minishoot Adventures. Kind of a perfect little game. Highly recommended!
I picked up Kena: Bridge of Spirits for Switch 2. Haven't played it yet because my Internet is pretty slow, but I will try it today.
While waiting for it to download, I played Banjo-Kazooie. Lovely game. I made it to Clanker's Cavern. It's not my first time - once every ten years or so I guess I have to return to play it. I wish they made more games like it.
Yeah none of them are great, but I voted JP because the lighting is more interesting, and because "Biohazard" is a much cooler and more appropriate name then "Resident Evil".
Man there's dlc coming already? And it's FREE? C'mon Team Cherry, take a break. Go tour the world. Or just drink beer and watch tv for a while. You're making the rest of us look lazy. You've already made a bajillion dollars on this. Time for a rest.
@Broch83 Oh I loooved this game. If you are into open ended puzzles.about creating elaborate machines to do stuff, this game is for you. If not... well, there are a lot of other games!
Good for your Mom. I don't think there was ever a video game more anticipated than Zelda 64, at least to me. I didn't get it on release day because I didn't have an N64. But when all those perfect 10s rolled in I knew I would do anything to get it. I saved up everything I could and started to get perfect As since my parents paid me by the grade and eventually it was mine. Did not disappoint!
Interesting that Galaxy 1 is ahead of Galaxy 2. Having played them both in the recent re-release, I have to say that Galaxy 2 is the better game. For me it's tied with Odyssey as the best 3D game.
I"ve been playing this. It's kind of a perfect little game. As in, not earth-shatteringly amazing but just very good at what it does. I'm the auto-shooting option as it makes it feel a lot smoother and easier to control. I hope they make a Minishoot' Adventures 2. But why is that apostrophe there?
I'm not a fan of the big-headed Mario figure they had so for me this seems better. But I probably won't buy any. I love the Mario games to death but I'm not super attached to any of the locations.
I picked up Minishoot' Adventures (not sure why there is an apostrophe but it's there in the logo!) based on hearing others rave about it. If you don't know, it's basically a Geometry Wars-like dual stick shooter in an otherwise very traditional Zelda world, complete with dungeons, simple puzzles, Metroidvania-like items, and so on. I had never even heard of this game. Playing it on Switch 1 because I couldn't find my Switch 2. Anyway, it's pretty good! I played it in dual-stick mode for the first hour or so but found it was too difficult so put it on the auto-fire mode, which honestly is much more fun and relaxing for me, and doesn't change the game much at all since most of the time you're just shooting at one thing at a time. Anyway, it is pretty fun! Check it out.
I'm intrigued. Not normally my type of game, but a friend of mine might get it and if he says it is awesoms and it has good multiplayer, I might pick it up.
I enjoyed this one. It did get a bit frustrating when I kept "losing" runs due to RNG. I rolled credits on it but didn't solve the deeper mysteries, although I got a glimpse as to what I believe is the final challenge. Unfortunately, I lost my notes that had some of my work on one of the more detailed puzzles. Maybe one day I will go back to it. I recommend it (if you have patience!)
Ed's doin' just fine with Binding of Isaac and Mewgenics and I don't think he's had anything bad to say about this project so I don't really care if he's involved or not. I just want to know if it's good. It all depends on how good it feels to play. Super Meat Boy absolutely nailed the controls and it's difficult to see how that would be recaptured in 3D, but if it can be done, I am absolutely the target audience as a huge fan of 3D platformers and of the original Super Meat Boy. If it gets decently good reviews than I will absolutely pick this up.
I'm tempted to get RE9 but I don't have a decent way to play ot except for handheld on Switch 2 and that doesn't seem right for am AAA horror game. So it will probably be just more Monster Train 2 for me.
@Kiz3000 Well yeah. But that's my point, these guys don't have anything as eyecatching as the fire on Charmamder's tail or the bulb on Bulbasaur. The og starters are just weirder and not as cutesy. Also I prefer the hand-drawn art over the smooth, plastic looking 3D models.
I dunno, the latest gen starters always just seem to be "random cute animal + element". Nothing as iconic or interesting as Bulbasaur, Charmander and Squirtle. (Ok, admittedly Squirtle is also cute animal + element but he does get some ridiculously huge cannons in the evolutions.)
I haven't played Pokemon since Gold but maybe this will be the one to bring me back. It actually looks pretty good and they have an extra year to cook.
Eric, we all love you. But I wish you would call it a day with Stardew Valley and work on Haunted Chocolatier. But given Stardew Valley's astronomical sales, I can't really blame you. Thanks for a great game.
I tried Disgaea but I just couldn't get past the (to me) annoying characters and constant "Dood"s. Also not a muso guy. Happy for those who are into it.
The NA cover is iconic, but the JP cover is just fantastic. Like I would want it as a poster. It just looks like an exciting childlike (but not childish, if that makes sense) adventure!
The NES Zelda was my first and I loved it! The fact that you can get to Level 8 almost from the beginning is crazy and was very innovative at the time and still is very rare in modern games.
Mostly I am still playing Monster Train 2. I finally completed all the challenges but now the new DLC mode is kicking my ass. Geez that Life Mother has crazy hp.
Also been playing MewGenics now and then. It's fun but very frustrating when I lose a run due to weird random ***** because the runs are so lengthy. I also feel that I don't have a lot of options for choosing my builds. Maybe that expands more later.

I really liked them both. It's hard to say which is better. Silksong is definitely more beautiful visually and the level design overall is more interesting. But I think Hollow Knight had slightly more interesting exploration as the world was a little more nonlinear if I remember correctly, and it didn't punish you as much for exploring it.
I'm really just waiting for Mewgenics. In the meantime I'm wasting time with Monster Train 2 and building some Lego. I might dip into Final Fantasy Tactics, Blue Prince, or Divinity: Original Sin 2 if I feel ambitious.

Well this is bizarre. I didn't think Nintendo was this puritanical in the year of our lord 2026. I mean it's an M-rated game. What's the big deal about a little nudity?
The game itself is great. Or rather, the TV show that makes up most of the game is great. Really smart writing - very funny with some emotional moments as well. The gameplay sections are kind of meh on their own although I didn't hate them. I'm excited to see what they do in Season 2.
@PinderSchloss It will show a 1 minute teaser. Introduce Danny DeVito as Wario and Steve Buscimi as Waluigi. Then give 15 minutes of speaking to the director about how he enjoyed Mario in his childhood and still plays it with his kids and how inspiring Peach and Rosalina are for the young women of tomorrow. Then introduce three new $50 Amiibo.

@Isaix Play StarLink
Re: Talking Point: What Would You Want From A New Star Fox Game?
I just want another rail shooter. I don't need on-foot or even open-zone combat. Just flashy and fast on-rails shooting.

Re: Surprise! Braid: Anniversary Edition Nintendo Switch 2 Edition Just Dropped
It wasn't too surprising to me that the game had poor sales. Not because of Blow's opinions (which most people don't know or care about) but just because Braid is a game that really doesn't need any update. It was already beautiful the way it was. I might pick this up, though, because apparently it has a decent amount of new stuff and the original game is one of my all-time favorites.
As for Blow himself. Yeah, he has some terrible opinions and I was disappointed to learn he was a Trump supporter. But what can I say, the man has made some good games and has contributed a lot to the general discourse around video games. His philosophy of game design - that games should let you discover the "nature of the universe" by exploring the consequences of simple rules, rather than artificially introducing complexity - is pretty foundational for me.
Re: Poll: So, Do You Prefer Hollow Knight Or Silksong?
I really liked them both. It's hard to say which is better. Silksong is definitely more beautiful visually and the level design overall is more interesting. Then give 15 minutes of speaking to the director about how he enjoyed Mario in his childhood and still plays it with his kids and how inspiring Peach and Rosalina are for the young women of tomorrow. Then introduce three new $50 Amiibo.
