Re: GameSir And Hyperkin Reveal A Modular Pad With GameCube And N64 Layouts

mlt

Finally! A controller that allows you to switch the dpad and the stick ! I hope they release a module for a Nintendo dpad at some point, since here it looks like we have Sega and PS but that's it. That being said the PS one looks like the different directions are almost not separated so it might work.

Also I'm being super nitpicky there but if the two parts could be attached to one another to make a classic controller for docked play that would be neat.

Re: Poll: The Dragon Quest VII: Reimagined Demo Is Now Available, What Are Your First Impressions?

mlt

@Jalex_64
So Doesitplay actually says there is now around 67% of PS5 games that are playable without downloading anything. However, do they consider installing stuff as an equivalent to downloading? I get the impression that they just don't take into consideration the fact that you sometimes need to install stuff from the disk. I think they just see if the game requires extra download such as patching and also if there is some kind of DRM in place. But their stats don't include installing, or at least I don't think it does I could be wrong of course.

I'm saying this because if you look at the NS2 stats it says 69% of games don't require downloading, which if it was considering GKC as extra download it would definitely not be this number. So that makes me think they consider GKC as installing and not downloading and they don't include installing for either PS5 or NS2.

Re: Splatoon 3 Has Now Been Rated For The Switch 2

mlt

They said something like they want to leave the reins to third parties this year, haven't they? So it makes sense that they would go mainly for ports for now. And I trust that even if they see things like that they would have at least one big project up their sleeves. I hope they worked out good deals with third parties though.

Re: Nintendo Comments On Metroid Prime 4's Placement In The Metroid Timeline

mlt

There is an inherent problem with the Metroid franchise. It's called Metroid, and the arc that it tells has to be about Metroids as in one of the most dangerous species in the galaxy and how it affects the powers that be.

Therefore there can't be too many games situated in that arc, otherwise the scenario becomes repetitive and stale. Each game has to tell a significant new chapter in that story. And this is exactly what the main line games do.
Metroid 1 : Samus fights the space pirate who try to get a hold on the thing
Metroid 2 : Samus becomes a Metroid hunter, beginning of the baby arc
Metroid 3 : the last Metroid dies
Metroid 3.5 : Metroids are being cloned, Samus acknowledges the GF double standards
Metroid 4 : Metroids are the only way of getting rid of another threat
Metroid 5 : Samus is the Metroid

It works well and so far it makes a pretty cool story but if you add the Prime series it just adds too much Metroid this or that to this arc. It's just way better that it stays out of the Metroid canon.

Re: Talking Point: Our 2026 Nintendo And Switch 2 Predictions

mlt

1st party : 3d Mario is coming. Splatoon Raiders is way more than you thought it was. Monolith is revealing and maybe releasing X2. Not much more, they said they would leave space for 3rd parties. MKW is getting free content to justify its price, tons of options for custom cups and knockout tours. Also a 4 player mode local and online treasure hunt or hide and seek on the open world along with online events à la Fortnite. MKW99 anyone?

3rd party : Monster Hunter mainline entry. Clair Obscure is a given. Other than that there's already plenty with Indiana Jones and 007, possibly Tomb Raider and COD, RE9 and Pragmata. Oh and Baldurs Gate 3 of course. Bethesda is also releasing something. DQxii is coming.

NSO : Billy Hatcher for NSO! Conker! Mischief Maker and Goemon 64!
Baten Kaitos not very likely because of the remastered collection being a thing.

Wild cards? I'll never stop going for my champs, Baten Kaitos 3! Star Fox! Castlevania Legendary Collection is the first time we see Symphony of the Night on Nintendo, along with Rondo of Blood and the Adventure Rebirth. FFVIIRemake series gets a FFVII Retold version that just tells the events of the original with the new presentation and gameplay.
...
I told you they were wild cards.

Re: Atlus Looks Forward To Persona's 30th Anniversary In 2026, Acknowledges Support For Persona 4 Revival

mlt

I'm getting serious Persona fatigue. I think they should be concerned about not killing their brand with too many iterations of the same games. I mean Persona games are already VERY samey so yeah.

More SMT would be wonderful! You want to go for a remake? SMTIV is the best game in the series and the perfect candidate! SMTVI would be very much welcome. Also I'd love to see Metaphor on the NS2.

Just make Persona shut up for a while. For its own good.

Re: Pikmin 3 Deluxe Nintendo Switch 2 Rating Pops Up Online

mlt

I loved pikmin 4 and consider it the best in the series but 3 certainly has its cult following. I still think it would be surprising for them to release 3 before 4. Unless they are going for a full on remake and not an NS2 upgrade. In which case anything is possible. Of course pikmin 3 already had its remake on the NS1 so that would be a bit weird.

Re: "If Mario Starts To Show Up On PlayStation, That's The Apocalypse, Right?" - Ex-PlayStation Boss Thinks Console Exclusives Are Still Important

mlt

I mean Sony did kill pretty much all their exclusivity efforts and their work to build brand recognition via exclusive games a while ago by selling or closing all their studios that were working on interesting stuff, haven't they?

That was extremely sad to see the gravity rush guys go and the Ico and the Flowers and whatnot. It's just not that era of Sony anymore and the only thing that even remotely came close since was God of War and Astrobot. So it's a little strange to see this comment but we'll see what happens. Maybe they intend to go back to this kind of brand defining exclusives.

Re: Review: Stray Children (Switch) - A Surreal, Captivating, Undertale-Inspired RPG

mlt

@LikelySatan
Yeah well. To each his own of course and I'm glad you get to enjoy it but I have to say I really struggle with this one. It's so easy to at least do it the Tales way where you get little enemy silhouettes on the map that at least gives you a chance at avoiding battle if you don't want to engage. You know it at least gives you a feeling of agency like you are actually playing the game and it's not there automatically playing itself. We hate automated. Automated is the enemy.

Re: "This Just Didn't Fit Into My Gaming Lifestyle" - Hideki Kamiya Isn't Happy About Switch 2's Lack Of A D-Pad

mlt

If ever they make an official d-pad left joycon 2, I would like it to swap the dpad and the stick and have the d-pad being on the main position.

It would be perfect having a d-pad joycon for 2d games and a c buttons one for 3d games. If they release a d-pad joycon without swapping the d-pad and the stick, as far as I'm concerned the d-pad would still be pretty much unusable as a main imput peripheral because it's positioned too low.

EDIT : the d-pad on the pro con 2 is absolutely fine compared to the first one, I can't believe some of the stuff I'm reading here unless they were talking about pro con 1 maybe?

Re: Talking Point: Does Switch 2 Have Nintendo's Best Launch Line-Up Ever?

mlt

I've got to say it really depends on a couple factors :

  • do you have access just to nintendo consoles

In that case the Wii U and the Switch 2 have really great line ups.

  • do you think a single huge title can be enough for a launch line up

In that case Wii and Switch seem to be the best ones.

If you take everything into consideration though I'm sorry but overall the strongest line up is the NES.

Re: Opinion: Rayman 2 Is An Overlooked Platforming Classic About A Rebel With A Cause

mlt

@Serpenterror and others

For those who don't know the timeline, the N64 version is the original. The DC version is certainly better looking and has more upbeat music. To each his own, there is a good number of people who actually prefer the midi N64 ost. The ps1 version came out after as a cashgrab and is an overall pretty average version of the game. The 64 version is absolutely not a port of the ps1 version.

Re: Review: Stray Children (Switch) - A Surreal, Captivating, Undertale-Inspired RPG

mlt

This looks wonderful, however.... noooooo random encounters I hate those, they absolutely make a game unplayable for me. I don't understand how this mechanic is still a thing, it presents absolutely zero advantage compared to any of the alternatives. It's something that existed once because of hardware limitations and that should not exist anymore. It is a relic of the past and not the good kind, rather the kind that should stay there.

Re: Best Nintendo Switch 1 & 2 Games Of 2025

mlt

Bananza is not a #1, sorry people. It was good but not Hades 2 kind of good. Not even Mario Kart World or Metroid Prime 4 kind of good as far as I'm concerned. I think so far the highest I would rate amongst the switch 2 releases would still be Cyberpunk.

Re: "I Skipped School To Play" - Hideo Kojima Cites Super Mario Bros As The Reason He Makes Games

mlt

@sportymariosonicmixx

He wouldn't be the first to say about a game that he was playing as a kid that he used to be really good at it and now he's not even remotely as competent. The momentum is quite extreme by nowadays standard and I've seen several younger players when trying it for the first time being surprised by it and struggling to adapt. Maybe that's why he has issues getting back to it.

Now I'm sure if he was giving it a proper try he wouldn't have nearly as much difficulty as he thinks he would. That's how I interpreted what he said anyway. SMB is a 100% playable nowadays and just as great as it always was. People are just not trying hard enough.

About Kojima I've always found it surprising this fascination that he has with nintendo. His own games are as un-Nintendo as you can get.

Re: Cronos: The New Dawn Is Getting An Easy Difficulty Setting In Early 2026

mlt

I think a 7 was a bit harsh to be honest. Well not actually harsh. 7 is not harsh but to some people 7 instantly sounds like I'm gonna pass on this and it's a pity really. I'm playing this right now and it's really good. Not every game needs to reinvent the wheel and this is just an all around well executed game.

Also I hope the next update comes with a bit of optimization for switch 2. It's good as is but it's always nice to see devs actually caring and making their game just that extra bit better.

Re: "I Skipped School To Play" - Hideo Kojima Cites Super Mario Bros As The Reason He Makes Games

mlt

@Pillowpants
My dude what a day it must have been!
These memories are golden. I myself got Zelda 3 before the console, bought used from a friend, but couldn't play it. Then I got a used snes for my birthday. I remember it had the SF2 turbo box but SF2 itself wasn't in it because my parents wouldn't let me play a fighting game so they just bought the console but not the game. I got Yoshi's Island instead. It was a glorious night.

Curiously that "tradition" to get Zelda games before the hardware itself because an opportunity presented itself repeated itself with Ocarina and Wind Waker. Long were the days spent staring at these boxarts and reading those instruction booklets without being able to actually play the games.

Re: Every Nintendo Switch Online N64 Game Ranked

mlt

Did my part to support my boy Rayman there.

Perhaps its biggest merit is that it is not a collectathon. People seem to forget collectathons are just a subgenre of 3d platforming and not the norm.

Rayman 2 is just an honest efficient point a to b 2 buttons (okay 3) platformer with impeccable controls, great level design and atmosphere, that leaves you with the simple joy of jumping from one platform to the next.

No collecting three different types of currency and no double jump either. It doesn't need it since its gameplay is not centered around exploration but around actual platforming and it demands that your moves and jumps are quite deliberate and precise. So nope you won't be double jumping your way out of a dodgy move you did not quite thought through.

It's just well made simple linear goodness. It's just great.
