Re: Poll: Has Donkey Kong Bananza Made You Feel Ill?

mlt

I mean the game is subject to frantic camera moves and sometime makes you lose track of where you are exactly. That's only when you start going crazy and digging out of the beaten path and trying weird stuff. Otherwise it's fine but it's true that it can be chaotic if you are the kind of gamer who likes to try breaking the game or finding other paths and things like that. So that might be the issue.

Haven't had any problem with it myself though.

want to truly get down with the motion sickness

ooh-wah-ah-ah-ah!

Re: Review: Donkey Kong Bananza (Switch 2) - Absolutely Smashing, But Can It Beat Mario Odyssey?

mlt

IGN giving a better score than NL to a Nintendo exclusive is probably a very unique situation.

Also, I saw that David Wise is not part of the game and that makes me very sad. I was talking about the very unique atmosphere of DKC thanks to David Wise and I think an easy way to give DKB a slightly more DKC vibe without even trying too hard was precisely to have Wise on board. So that's a pity really. And I've seen a couple people online already stating that the music feels too generic for a DK game.

Re: Super Mario 3D All-Stars Updated To Version 1.1.3, "Improves Gameplay" On Switch 2

mlt

Adds in Galaxy 2!
Nope. Anyway still nice to see them updating this "obscure" time limited release. I'll be sure to give it a try!

Also... still nothing for Wonder? That's awesome because this + the 120fps tease that we saw in the NS2 release trailer makes me think something bigger than a normal performance/resolution boost is coming!
Hard mode for Wonder? Dlc pack with harder levels?
Come on all this game needs to join the older games in the pantheon of 2d Mario is a bit of challenge! Actually a bit more than a bit, but challenge damnit!

Re: Donkey Kong Bananza Director Acknowledges Performance Drops: "We Prioritized Fun And Playability"

mlt

For me when we talk about performance in a game we refer to moment to moment gameplay and not 100% perfect all the time. 100% perfect is not a criteria that is going to help assess the general enjoyment of the game. Having performance dropping here and there in exceptional situations is not going to prevent you from enjoying the game. Or at least it shouldn't. If it does it's a bit of an obsession tbh.

So talking about performance, what matters is moment to moment gameplay, not perfection.

Re: Video: Digital Foundry Tests Switch 2's GameCube Emulation

Again (just out of the pro controller 2 discussion) people are going to pretend this is not an issue but I consider myself not being too affected by minor amounts of imput lag and adjusting fairly well, but I instantly noticed something was wrong there. Perhaps what I noticed even more was the stick sensitivity issue. I instantly saw that Link was not moving how he should have.

If you consider yourselves fans of this company, expect, no demand better from them. You are spending huge amounts of your hard earned money on these products and spending time with these. Demand that your favorite company becomes better at what it does. We love them so we want them to be the best they can. And obviously there is room for improvement in several key aspects.

Re: iFixit Performs A Full Teardown Of Nintendo's "P**s-Poor" Pro Controller

mlt

The shortsightedness of some people around here is astounding. Their criteria is repairability and durability. Based on that criteria, the controller is terrible. It's not an opinion it's a fact that they explain well enough.

I love the controller and even I can understand that. Some people here in Europe are trying to pass laws to make this kind of BS illegal because it's factually anti consumer practices and goes against any ecological common sense. I hope they succeed in doing so, so that we can all attack nintendo and make them a better company since they can't do it themselves it seems.

I'm a Nintendo fan and it's always sad to see my favorite company doing things like that that is so against their customers and toxic for the environment showing in the process that they don't care about these things. It hurts because I like what they do otherwise, but I'm not going to ignore these issues because I'm a fan. If I was doing this I would actively be helping them to become worse and worse as time goes.

Also it's very high time they put gamers back in key roles in this company. It used to be their specificity. It's not the case anymore, that era's gone and it is starting to really show and it's not pretty.

Re: Inti Creates Unveils New "Paper Craft" 2D Action Game For Switch 2, Out October

mlt

@GlowingOrb
To be fair and if you count Mighty as Megaman, then the last Megaman game by inti is not Mighty no9, it's Mighty Gunvolt and it is pretty good.
But I get your point, Megaman 11 is good but I think most of the criticism made to Capcom is not that they're doing bad Megaman games, more that they don't do anything with the licence.

Re: Feature: Three Laps, Two Players, One Vegas Jumpsuit - 10 Things We'd Love To See Added To Mario Kart World

mlt

  • Classic mode
  • Not just customized knock out tour but customized grand prix also, there is huge potential here
  • Map markers
  • More multi-player options such as local free roam, free roam with p switches and everything scattered around (maybe they save only when the host is doing the challenge, if that's the issue?), being able to join existing multi-player sessions, etc

And first and foremost options, options, options.

  • zoom in and out on the mini map
  • make it so it doesn't move when you turn and always indicates north
  • let us set any number of laps we want ffs on any map AND if we want intermission races in between
  • let us customize which objects we want

Basically and this is going to sound harsh but all of this stuff that's just finishing the game.

And even... I can't believe I'm saying this but FREAKING SOUND OPTIONS.
The sound of the engines is too loud especially in handheld mode, give me the option to make the music louder and turn down the sounds. While you are at it separate sounds from natural ambient sounds and voices. You know the kind of stuff we've been doing in any other game for the last ten years probably more.

MK has always been the stone age of settings. Nintendo has always been pretty bad at it but MK has usually been the worst. MK8DX (just the DX version mind you) took about two steps and a half in the right direction but MKW is just... wow that's just practically non existent I haven't seen that in years.

I don't want to sound overly negative, I love this game, it's good and obviously I'm just talking about options. But really they should do something. There is NO SOUND OPTION. Let that sink in. There were sound options in many NES titles what, 40 years ago?

Re: Donkey Kong Bananza Gets An Eight-Minute Overview Trailer

mlt

I think the atmosphere is going to make or break this game for me. DKC was capable of moving from a funny even goofy sometimes atmosphere to a more serious tone, contemplative even, thanks to more muted ambient sounds and beautiful music some of which were sometimes almost just ambient natural noises, and intriguing vistas. I know ultimately they were games about monkeys chasing bananas but it's a fact that the games were absolutely capable of this kind of tonal shifts. Heck in some of the entries the more serious tone is even more present than the cartoony moments. DKC3 comes to mind.

If this is not in DKB I'm going to be a bit disappointed for sure. Even though I can always appreciate a game for what it is, I would feel like something was lost in translation. And let's say what I've seen does not bode well in that regard.

Re: Cult-Movie-Turned-Metroidvania 'Turbo Kid' Lands August Switch Release

mlt

@N8tiveT3ch
I can't believe how good that game was. We were all like how are they going to make it something special after years and years of the whole industry going after Metroid 3's shadow and developing the genre? Well, they took everything that still to this day make the Metroid formula specific even amongst the ton of competition out there, and they cranked THESE elements up to eleven. It's like saying to the others hey that's really neat what you are doing but Metroid, really, THAT was what it was all about.

Oh and also stealth section is the icing on the switch. Loved it.

Re: Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag Actor Drops The Biggest Remake Hint Yet

mlt

A remake? This game still looks and plays great nowadays I don't get it.

I think AC4 is a good choice though. It's often pinpointed by people who don't really like the franchise as being the one good game of the bunch. As for me I definitely consider it as the highlight of the series. But why not a Black flag 2 instead of a remake?

I remember when it was released I was like this game is really good, the only stuff that is not great in it are all of the mandatory things that they put in there because they have to because it's an AC game. I thought if they could make it its own franchise and get rid of the Assassin's creed moniker and just call it Black Flag and make it a full on pirate stealth exploration and adventure game, and not bother with all the AC elements, the game would be that much better for it. Maybe it's time to do just that in a sequel.

Re: Poll: What's Your Switch (2) Game Of The Year So Far?

mlt

Clair Obscure is the one me thinks. For now at least. Hundred line has a great reputation and could be a nice surprise.

On NS1/2, Mario Kart World is really good but I don't think it's GOTY material. Xenoblade is nice but it's a remake and when we get remakes as GOTY it is no cause for celebration and it only serves as a sad reminder of what the industry has become. (that's right RE4)

So yeah on the switch front we're clearly going to rely on DKB and MP4. Other than that Sliksong is coming.

Re: 27 Upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 Games We're Excited For In 2025

mlt

So DKB, and then Shadow Labyrinth and Star Wars Outlaws are maybes and FFT is almost a given since, even if I'm not a big fan of tactics, I want to support anything Ivalice. Next we'll see. Of course MP4 is a given and Elden Ring depending on the reviews and also Sliksong. That's a pretty cool list of games.

But of course I'm sure the next direct will shatter all of these plans with first party releases. Or maybe not. Maybe they really are going to stick to the plan of giving priority to third party that was rumoured back then.

Also anyone remembers that new licence game from yacht club that looked very cool?

Re: Nintendo Expands Switch 2's GameCube Library Next Week

mlt

I don't expect this much from the cube since a lot of its good games were stuff that we're never going to get on NSO or I don't really think we will. Twin Snakes, RE4, the PoP trilogy, Beyond good and Evil, ToS, Baten Kaitos... We will probably be stuck with first parties and less known third parties which is cool and all but overall will probably leave us with an okay/not great representation of what the system really was. The N64 on the other hand is awaiting a lot of titles that have a real shot at NSO and that can give a real impression what the console really was.

Re: Mario Kart World Has Been Updated To Version 1.1.2, Here Are The Full Patch Notes

mlt

@EVIL-C
Absolutely. I think the game is great and I even understand why they insist on intermission tracks so much because it's the point of the game. I think they will eventually add a classic 3 laps mode but they don't want people to think that mode is the default one just because it's the one they are used to so they keep the intermission mode for now to make it clear it's the main act.

But why oh why are there no collectible tracker in free roam? It's very strange. I mean they even have this mini map that they bothered to program and that is fairly elaborate visually and to be clear it serves absolutely no purpose as it is now. It is too zoomed in it doesn't have options it does not even indicate north and it does not have trackers. It's insane we have that thing in the corner that we can't even deactivate, because again the game has no settings whatsoever which is a huge step backwards BTW, and it's completely useless. I can't reasonably, even honestly trying, make any use of it. I mean it screams unfinished.

Re: Review: Nintendo Switch Online GameCube Controller - The Return Of The King

mlt

Definitely not as necessary as the N64 one for obvious reasons though some GC games sort of required analog triggers, fzero is one of them and also was designed around the central A button. So there you go, right from launch you've got one of the very few games that made real use of this pad's specificity. But other than this one honestly most games are going to be absolutely perfectly fine with a pro con. Especially now that you can remap everything.

So definitely not as necessary as the N64 one but still a very nice controller nonetheless.
