@Medic_alert I get your point but still PS5 asks you to install pretty much everything and the fact that the game is complete on disc for some games does not really change that issue. It's like Nintendo fans wanted Nintendo to catch up with the competition in terms of triple A gaming but didn't want the crappy practices that come with these guys. There is a lot that I blame nintendo for as to how they handled the announcement but these game key cards and incomplete games are not really on them.
That's not enough for Elden Ring though so that's already a problem at launch. That being said nothing says they could not add more tiers as time goes. They obviously at least would need another tier over that one for some AAA multiplatform games.
Also do we know how much space we have on the new SD cards? And how much they are because that's definitely a hidden cost on top of the rest. I know I'll already fill up most of the available space by just transferring stuff from S1 to S2 which means the new SD card is mandatory for me day 1.
DE and 3 being toe to toe is just how it should be to be honest. I probably prefer 3 though. 2 got me very worried for the series after the first entries which were stellar but fortunately it turned out to be the exception and not the rule. Don't get me wrong it's still a good game but there were some extremely wth game design choices and the overly shounen atmosphere wasn't so good for the series and also the characterization and designs of anything female in that game were very problematic. Seriously the amount of cringe is through the roof and absolutely will take you out of the story and out of love for the characters. Torna was much better than 2 everywhere where it counted. The only thing 2 had better than the others was its map design which is terrific and I wish it was as good in 3 for example.
That's not really a problem is it?
I mean I agree the whole announcement is kind of a mess with overall really good news mixed with very negative stuff and unclear messages to the customers and it was not very well handled.
But that ain't part of it. I understand that people want a full functioning game on the cart and thus they are not happy with game key cards that no doubt third parties are going to abuse.
But here it's very different. It's a version of a game that already exists and you have your fully featured fully functional game on the card. The add on is being added on via a download and I honestly think that's fair. I did not expect them to reprint games like these just to include an add on that is purchasable on its own and most people are going to get on its own anyway.
It comes down to the price really. Is the switch 2 version more expensive than the base game plus the add on?
EDIT : so we don't know the price of the add on yet so we can't really answer that question but chances are it's not a rip off in the sense that it is still better or equal to the base game plus the add on. So the REAL problem is that the base game has never dropped in price then isn't it?
That's looking very good! I'm so happy that Capcom is on board and at launch no less. After their lackluster support of the switch 1 I hope it's a sign of things to come regarding Monhun, Resident evil and also Okami of course. Welcome home pal!
That's cool! High time we get some more lore about Pauline.
Also I'm fine with the new art since the game is so radically different from the Country games. I hope Retro will keep making Country games with the old art though. Seeing Cranky in that game being the Country design shows that the two styles kind of work together but if... no WHEN they get back to Country I hope they drop the overly cartoony and goofy and get back to proper DK.
Do we kmow if those of us who bought the switch version of Hogwart can upgrade via an upgrade pack or whatever it's called?
The game is fun but not great, there is no way I'm rebuying it. But half of the fun is just walking around the school enjoying the atmosphere so if an upgrade is cheap enough I might bite since the new graphics will make the atmosphere that much better.
I've said it on this site already but to me it's very useless and a loss of research and development resources tbh. They should have gone back to pointer controls, refined thanks to motion controls, since it is already part of their history and that effectively does the same thing. Plus I mean, who in their right mind plays the switch in front of a desk? Playing with mouse mode IS putting yourself in an unusual position or setup so that you can effectively just freaking play.
It's very surprising coming from Nintendo and honestly it kind of feels like they were just trying super hard because they thought they had to have another gimmick. I would add if Drag and Drive is supposed to be the proof of concept game, then that pretty much confirms what I've said. It looks like a fine game but people are going to drop mouse mode really quick.
Between this, the prices going insane and the interactive manual not being a pack in, I have to say the whole switch 2 announcement is not great so far to say the least as much as it pains me to say that.
The crt filter for the snes is nice so I trust them on that. I'm still not sure if I'll get the console right away though as it's simply more expensive than I expected.
Nooooo Megaman legacy collection is not fully compatible. Crap. Fingers crossed that's the only game I own out of these lists. Other than that there's a couple big ones in there. Street Fighter 30th, Alan Wake, Alien as mentioned etc... But overall it's impressive how few games are having issues.
That's awesome! Also it seems to me the paid ones will be those that are adding actual content beside the performance boost. Which makes a lot of sense.
I wonder if games like Billy Hatcher and Soul Calibur 2 could have a chance at NSO. I mean very clearly, Namco and Sega are not going to do anything with these and they are amongst these midtier non-first party candidates to NSO and very much associated with the console in people's minds.
That being said the GC situation is a lot less critical for NSO compared to the N64 which absolutely needed Rare to be on board, in the sense that it is a lot less dependant on third parties overall.
@cosmograph
Thanks for the advice I'll definitely check it out! So far it's been okay. I mean we're very tired of course but we feel like the little man is treating us decently in the sleep department.
I've played XenoX on the WiiU and loved it. It's a game that needs time but it's great. Odyssey is one of these games I didn't want to see end. It's not perfect but it's pretty damn close. I remember being a little sad when I 100% it and saw the little 100% animation. I thought man there's nothing else to do there. Can't wait for the next one. And here I am still waiting what, 7 years later?
@BlackenedHalo I actually agree with you that I don't understand why they got rid of the division bonuses. If anything I would have made them even more prevalent.
Other than that though I haven't played it much yet but from what I read left and right the switch version seems to be better.
@cosmograph @Tyranexx @AmplifyMJ Thanks guys I couldn't be happier So I've got that XenoX game saved right before the long dialog explaining the divisions and I tried two times watching it and fell asleep both times. I made it this morning though!
Xenoblade X or at least it was the plan but there's a baby now in my house so that sort of complicates things. Let's say my games are going to last me much longer now
Also Metroid (though in truth it will be switch 2 for me), Rythm Heaven and Tomodatchi since it's always silly fun and I just miss the miis so much and also just as a way to celebrate the return of full on weird nintendo.
The Goldman game looks like it could be my cup of tea and the pac man one could also. I'm cautiously optimistic.
Now this might have been already answered but have they gotten rid of the skell insurance system? I now if you get your probes right it's not too much of an issue since you can get significant money on a regular basis but still it's something I really wanted to see go in that new version. It's just not fun and it makes you feel overly cautious especially against big enemies end game and it artificially makes the game longer and overall it kind of spoils some of the fun of FINALLY getting that skell since you feel like you can't really mess around with it.
@Zeebor15 You mean people finally recognize that ffvii rewhatever is pretty much a waste of time and resources? Also Metaphor is a new licence I guess?
I'm going to go with Japan because I like the Mario face in a picross box and also it features stuff that is there for no other reason than the designer clearly just thinking hey I'm going to stick that there because I can.
Other than that I've got to say all three covers are really good this time so it's hard to choose. Maybe the adventure mario one is less impactful and imaginative but it's still good.
I agree 2 is the worst and 3 the best. But can a dlc really be better than the main game it is derived from?
I mean yes it can but it technically would not even exist without the main game behind it. And anyway none of the dlcs are better than the games. Well except for Torna which is actually better than 2 but it was a separate release anyway. And also Future Connected should be there even if it is included with the main game. So yeah, dlcs should probably be separated from the main games here, with Torna being in both lists maybe? I mean Torna has this special position but other than this one ranking dlcs and games together is kind of unfair to be honest. You can't really judge them on the same criteria.
Not entirely related to the article though it is mentioned and it's part of the problem, but random encounters need to go. They are a nuisance, a relic of the past and they just can't be justified in our day and age.

And finally shameless plug, check out A fox in space on youtube it is so freaking good and I dream of Nintendo going that way with the series in terms of tone.
To me it was always more 1 and 2 which I respectively had on the N64 and the second one much later on the ps1 when I finally got one. I never tried 3 and 4 I had more than enough with the first games. After that I played a ton of Underground 2 on my GC and loved it. I hope they re-release this one at some point it was so much fun.
Thanks for that thumbnail using the incredible art from the remake. That game doesn't get enough credit for how it remade the artwork while being incredibly respectful of the original. It's a ton better than the original that we remember from the instruction manual as a result. It's outstanding.

What is even more worrying is the Monhun team going "we know absolutely nothing about switch 2". It's very strange that Capcom would not be in the know. Or maybe nintendo thinks, like I do, that they had Capcom in the loop the first time around with switch 1 and that it ultimately led to them having Rise released and then after that pretty much all of their big titles NOT on the switch or in a pretty sh*tty state with cloud gaming. So maybe they were voluntarily left out this time.
