The stick calibration issue and imput lag are a real problem but the good news is that it is probably not too much of a hassle to fix.
They want to tell people the experience is close to the real deal, even selling you the OG controller so they want you to believe it is authentic. That's why it is important that they fix those things.
I'm way more interested in that than the FFVII remake. I guess in a couple years they'll remake FFXVI and massacre its story so I'd rather play the original thanks.
Plus I heard someone say it's got FFCC elements in it the same way FFXIV was semi-Ivalice in a lot of ways. So yeah I want me some Crystal Bearers please!
I mean DK was always more of a David Wise thing toybe honest. Kirkhope did the DK64 soundtrack of course but it, like the rest of the game, was more Banjo than it was DK.
However that doesn't change the fact that he should definitely be credited there. Nintendo needs to stop that nonsense.
I mean obviously we want everything but I don't think we should get our hopes up too much. I'm not sure Capcom has had this much time with the console. Plus I'm not sure they're even willing to support it, support on NS1 was just okay. I mean they treated NS1 primarily as a legacy machine and that left us with mainly 2 Monhun games including 1 spin-off and that's it. I hope this time we get the RE, MH and something ambitious that's more aimed at the nintendo crowd why not. Okami? Megaman? Obviously SF6 being there and terrific and treated as an equal with other versions is a good sign.
@Polvasti Yeah okay I guess. That's kind of sad imo but yes it exists. My theory would be that it is the same Pauline, the DKC games are placed between Bananza and the DK universe crossing over with the Mario universe. The fact that DK comes back to kidnap Pauline when she is an adult is some King Kong inspired shenanigans. And Odyssey comes after all that. Finally the movie is its own canon.
Also the age is spot on imo, she looks like a cartoonish version of a girl that would be somewhere between 11 and 13. I mean other 13 year old girls in other games are over sexualized. Especially in Japanese media so maybe that's the problem.
@Dhaladog
No joke though I looked for yt yesterday 5 minutes before that DK direct! Realized it wasn't there and started my PC in a hurry not to miss the beginning. So yeah I realize even with all the terribly invasive adds and questionable interface, I did use yt fairly often on my NS1.
Hopefully it will come soon. With adblock NS2 edition. Seriously I would pay for that.
I'm keeping my NS1 alive and kicking so I'm only transferring select games. So the whole this or that game doesn't work does not affect me that much. That being said it's great that they are doing these NS2 compatibility patches, keep'em coming!
I did transfer Castlevania Dominus and Doom1+2 though because yeah. I can't live without those.
@kfflscnt
I've got to admit when I saw the medals or whatever they're called in Wonder I instantly thought, I'm going for a no medal run. Which I did and it made the game that much better for an old school gamer like me who thought that even when played like this, Wonder was an excellent game just too easy overall. And also I did this only to discover that the last level entirely revolves around the medals and I had to finally master them all just for that level but whatever.
So back to DK I sure hope the difficulty will be better balanced there and I'm already thinking of doing a no upgrade run for my first run. Hopefully the game lets you do that.
EDIT : and also I might add, they're teasing you by showing a difficulty toggle in the settings and you see that in the direct they go from 'normal' to 'assist' or whatever they called it this time. And when I saw that I instantly jumped out of the sofa staring at the screen saying please show me there's a hard mode aaaaaand nope. I mean it might be there but I'm not getting my hopes up.
I can't believe what they've done here. I can't wait. If they done things right this definitely has the potential to be a prime example of Nintendo magic. And I feel like people even fans are in need of just that these days.
They were one kremling away from being outstanding. In all honesty though it was absolutely brilliant and the game looks incredible. My last concern is the difficulty and if the real platforming is there. It could be from what we've seen. Other than that it looks like they are determined to show the Astro guys they still the kings of 3d platformers.
@StewdaMegaManNerd I mean that would actually be kind of awesome. So they part ways at some point and then they grow up and he gets angry about being separated from her for some reason and tries to kidnap her because he's so attached to her and he doesn't want to understand that she started a new life in a faraway place completely foreign to DK.
And that harkens back to King Kong lore! They're going to get sued by universal all over again!
@MarzoriuM You know nintendo though. They'll just tell you Cranky is not really a name you see. It's more like a title in the Kong tradition so when you get old and annoying enough you get to be the Cranky of that gen. Each Cranky when they become Cranky gets to choose who's the new Donkey too. There you are problem solved.
Or they take the problem the other way around and explain Cranky kidnapped Pauline when he was young and this Pauline is like Pauline's daughter named after her... out of respect? Or she's not actually called Pauline but the Kongs call her so because for them all human singers are Paulines? And also that Pauline is... a rock for... reasons?
You can see they really tried to cater to all of the DK audiences with NPC looking Rare as hell and musical references to DKC and level design looking like classic DK. This plus the super Odyssey vibe cranked up to 11 of having cutscenes looking almost like pixar stuff and themed songs. You can definitely expect a movie at some point it looks like it's been made easy to adapt.
It's a huge crossover. And it seems to work too.
I mean you can see it's not going to be Country in 3d but it looks very good nonetheless. Actually the direct was so great it opened the floodgates of hype and expectations for me way wider than they originally were for that game. It better deliver now!
Almost flawless as a direct. All it needed to be certified 100% awesomeness was a kremling at some point but with what's being apparently delivered it is hard to complain.
Also I hope that David Wise is involved but damn the soundtrack sounds insane. Some of the remixes here sounded so good! I really hope he is involved at least or even the one guy behind it because if he isn't this is going to seem a little unfair to be honest.
I have not tried it yet but I fully intend to do so. It's just that I did not have time for some Tears of the Kingdom yet. It's there installed on my NS2 but I'm playing MKW, SF6 and Cyberpunk so yeah.
If it's anything like what happened with NS1, as in the dock scratching the sides of the screen, then all I'll do is put a glasses cleaning cloth in there. It worked like a charm the first time around
One of my favorite games ever! God I dream of a dreamcast NSO app.
As for the box art here well, one of those is an actual graffiti probably designed by one of the actual collabs from the actual game which collaborated with several real graffiti artists. So yeah. Why would you even want to chose one of the other two. It's the actual point of the game made tangible right there!
@Thorgaer Thanks I appreciate you taking the time to answer I understand from what you're saying that it's more my type of strategy elements so it sounds like it's going to stay in my wishlist then!
@Thorgaer Would you say Kunitsu gami is heavy on strategy? I don't really like strategy games but everything else about the game is very tempting to me. To make it clear I really don't like anything that asks me to produce and manage ressources and I'm not into multitasking. I'm okay with strategy as long as it's a small amount of units, and focused on combat, preferably with real time and action elements.
Hey! Bayo and Bloodstained that's neat, I might give these a go. I was wondering also if someone had tried Astral Chain, which to be honest did not have any particular issue but I'm still curious to see how it runs.
They need to do a Classic Mode with three laps of each track, and they need to update the open world with new content, stuff to unlock, missions, events, on a regular basis.
Like treasure hunting with hints scattered around, giant races on the open world, giant battles on the open world last one standing style. Here, just off the top of my head I've got several ideas.
And all of this for free of course. This is a 90€ game for petes sake. Make those customers happy about their purchase. If you're going to go with 90€ games make them say it's worth it. It's actually kind of critical to do so. And several years down the line, but only then, and only after a real good amount of free substantial content, I suppose they can have a major paid dlc or something. Don't f this up.
To make it clear, I quite like the game but I also see what's missing and what needs to be done because of the this special status it has of being the first 90€ nintendo game.
My OG joycons started to drift about 3 or 4 years after release. Now they are completely dysfunctional with even more problems that started to add up (sl and sr not working anymore for example, and led also after a while). That was a trainwreck tbh and extremely disappointing as an old nintendo fan. That company had a reputation of making the sturdiest stuff out there. Then again they also had the reputation of always being more accessible as in affordable and here we are. I guess Ninty has changed since the Wii days.
To be fair though after this happened I bought replacement joycons and these still work absolutely fine. My pro con started to have a slight drift downward, and I could even see it using the testing tool in the settings of the console. But this has been corrected software wise through updating the controller so no problem there.
I really hope these joycons 2 are going to be more durable and that nintendo will try to win back that reputation.
"This was the moment Xenoblade Chronicles went from a game I loved to a game that was special to me."
Exactly this. Sometimes I play other xenoblade games and I'm reminded of things like that and I wonder why I'm not just playing the first one instead. (not really though I absolutely adore 3)
@speed_loafer Agree on the strap part, they are annoying and should definitely go. I know people figured out how to get rid of them on the joycon 1 but it's not so easy there.
Also it's great that you can't see 120fps! That means all this tech nonsense is even more meaningless for you than it already is.
I've played a couple matches and tried different character types to try out various imput combinations and there it is. I'm not a fan of having asymmetric dpad and buttons, I loved the Wii U for that and regret that they did not follow suit. That being said as far as asymmetric controllers go, that one is one of the most comfortable if not the most to be honest, and that's compared to Xbox elite and PS5 regular and also other Nintendo controllers. I am a lot less bothered by the asymmetrical layout than I usually am. It's also generally better than the NS1 pro and it makes it feel a bit clunky in comparison. Despite the asymmetrical layout and also even if I have one of these snes 8bitdo incredible controllers, I definitely thought between matches that I could play SF6 with the NS2 pro if I'm feeling too lazy to charge or pair up the 8bitdo snes or even if I am switching games and don't want to bother changing pads. I don't think that I would be at a disadvantage with it and it is a perfectly functional and comfortable way to play the game that even made me forget about the layout that I'm not particularly fond of.
When it comes to the dpad specifically, it's quite simple really. I don't think I missed more than a couple special moves with it. It all comes out as intended and with no problem at all, almost 100% and to be honest that could be just me adjusting to a new controller. It's very reliable, night and day with NS1 pro and the only special that were just a bit harder to pull off were charges, specifically horizontal <- -> p/k ones, but again it generally worked really well and that could be just me adjusting.
I did not have time to try out USF2 though so that's just SF6. And really, where that thing really shines is that it's incredibly comfortable. And that's a general observation, not just for SF6. Both in how your hands rest on it and just using the sticks, pad and buttons. It's just so smooth and it feels organic and natural. I honestly think in that regard it is the best of the asymmetric controllers period. We'll see how it holds up with time but so far it's terrific.
Oh and also, for SF6, no imput lag that I could notice. Even though if I'm being honest I tend to adjust to lag fairly easily in other games and other consoles, so I don't complain too much about it even when it's not great, but I definitely notice it at first, and I am happy to report there is no such thing here, for me at least.
Now my dream would be the exact same controller with the WiiU button layout that would be the perfect controller for me.
I'm not really into tower defense and the amount of strategy I can stomach is around the level of Pikmin, with a small number of units and direct combat strategy rather than having to manage resources and equipment and other boring activities like these.
However I absolutely adore the look of the game and the action part seems to be right up my alley. Would anyone still recommend this to me or is it a pass?
I gotta say I'm loving that thing so far.
Tonight is SF which I have not tried yet simply because of the downloading times. Thanks game key crap. But anyway this time I'll try the dpad and I'll have a final verdict on the Switch Pro 2. And I'll probably give USF2 a go also.
Gotta update my mobapad and 8bitdo controllers btw.
Story is not what drives you forward in an open world. I don't need a story to explore stuff.
In fact in most open world story is precisely what gets in the way. They're still not really sure how to make a good story driven open world and that explains the success of BotW for example even though many still have not pinpointed it.
Story is good for more linear experiences and still quite cumbersome in open worlds. This MK game, partly because it has no story, promises a pretty good open world experience. I hope it delivers.
@NeonPizza
I agree 100% on the WiiU button placement being the best out of all.
Symmetric sticks above the dpad and buttons. That's how it should be done and it works infinitely better for everything.
Unfortunately Ninty gave up due to the WiiU line being unsuccessful, they weren't able to settle their own standard. They had to follow the competition which had become absolute gold standard at that point but that doesn't mean it's better far from it.

Re: Review: Kunitsu-Gami: Path Of The Goddess (Switch 2) - Tower Defence With A Twist In Capcom's Gorgeous, Yokai-Slaying Hybrid
Re: PSA: Got A Switch 2 Pro Controller? This Little Capture Trick Is A Game-Changer
Re: Publishers Are "Thanking" Nintendo For Game-Key Cards On Switch 2
Haha, oh the irony.
Re: Round Up: The Final Previews Are In For Mario Kart World
Story is not what drives you forward in an open world.
Re: Video: Do You Even Need A Pro Controller For The Switch 2?
@NeonPizza
Re: Video: Do You Even Need A Pro Controller For The Switch 2?
Meh.
I'm a simple man, there's an official nintendo controller, I buy it.
Re: Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour Trailer Highlights New Minigames & Tech Demos
I'll make sure to watch a let's play of that somewhere down the line. Next time pack in the obvious pack in, thanks.
