Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl - Duel: WarioWare, Inc.: Mega Microgame$!

I know I've said before that I would always vote for JP for GBA games because of that terribly ugly and huge only for game boy advance thing that just systematically butcher any US/EU boxarts. I know I said that but I can't realistically vote for JP this time. It's just so incredibly bland, what were they thinking.

Re: Nightdive Studios Reveal "Definitive" Re-Release Of 'Heretic + Hexen' On Switch

mlt

@Antraxx777
That makes sense, I also prefer Doom 2 to Doom because of its more spread out and intricate level design, precisely less focused. So it's all very coherent. I liked Heretic, it's a good game, but to me it feels less special and more like medieval doom rather than its own thing.

@Kuruwin
Yes, Hexen 2 needs to be 'fixed' with a couple qol improvement. It's a very nice game and with a couple adjustments it could be really great.

Re: Review: 8BitDo Pro 3 Bluetooth Controller - TMR Sticks And Hall Effect Triggers Elevate This Switch 2-Compatible Pad

I have an SN30 pro and I am in love with it. It is really hard to play anything retro without this now. Even though I have to admit I sometime take out good old NES30 pro when I am specifically playing an nes title and want a dpad that feels a little closer to the real deal.

DKC though? Megaman X? SF ? Anything Castlevania? KOF? All of those and more that's SN30 all the way, it's brilliant.

I don't really like the horned shaped grip though on any controller and I've always preferred smaller ones like the Wii u pro or the pro con 2 or even the ones that are sort of hidden behind the controller itself like the dreamcast or the joycon grip, or even better none at all like the almighty SNES controller. The Playstation style horn shaped grip though? Never really liked them and I always thought they were not as comfortable. Playstation themselves have started to slightly ditch it with the PS5 having shorter grip, and even though it's not there yet that's honestly the first good ps controller in my eyes.

So I'm not a big fan of this aspect of the pro 3 and I would have preferred them to go back to the snes controller shape. I hope they make a variation at some point.

Re: UFO 50 Gets A Surprise Shadow Drop On Switch Today

mlt

Yep I was very much waiting for this and I am very happy about it. Great direct for this and Mina alone, two from my most wanted list!

As others have said though, Ninty needs to get a grip. PR in some key areas has been lacking lately and that's putting it mildly.

Re: Nintendo Won't Let Charity Speedrunning Event Use Its Games Without Permission, Because Of Course

mlt

@WiltonRoots
I meant by that that they have a deficit in public image these days and have been handling things poorly for some events and some situations, like how they handle fan content, participation to public events like championships or this one here. And all of these happen to be miscommunication toward the same demographic online which is of course a vocal minority but still part of their fanbase. I'm saying they should do something about it.
Not all negativity is trolling.

Re: Nintendo Download: 1st August (North America)

The game kitchen really needs to work on a NS2 60fps patch as soon as possible for Ninja Gaiden. It was a day one game for me, I was very much waiting for it but I can't justify 30fps even on NS1 let alone NS2. I'm waiting for their move and I hope it's coming soon

Re: Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound Will "Average" 30fps On Switch

mlt

I realized this is getting reviews left and right and went here to check if nintendo life had their own and... Yeah so I learn that the game is 30fps on NS1 and probably on NS2 also. People seem to be upset about NS2 being 30+ and it is certainly upsetting but really even the 30fps on NS1 should be a concern. I see trailers of this and I don't see anything there that should prevent the game from hitting a comfortable 60fps on NS1. Also I see tons of other games in the same style and on the same system that are a stable 60. I don't understand and it is very disappointing.

Also anyone tried that Shinobi demo? It plays and looks awesome, just saying.

Re: Square Enix Wants Feedback About Its New HD-2D Game Coming To Switch 2

mlt

@RemyMartin

I don't think hd2d is boring. Back in the days nobody thought this kind of presentation was boring, it was just standard. Well now we have several ways to present a game and it's great that they coexist. Games can be 3d or 2d or a mix between the two which is what hd2d is. Saying hd2d is boring is like saying 3d is boring. It's a little too broad if you ask me.

Plus you have to consider the quality of the games themselves. Hd2d has produced Triangle Strategy and Octopath 2 which are two of the best rpgs we've had for a very long time. Heck the consensus is that Octopath 2 is the same level as the golden age of Squaresoft back in the snes and psx days. It competes with FFIV, VII and particularly with VI in the minds of a lot of gamers. Granted it's more niche, but to be clear none of the 3d FF apart from VII has that kind of consensus going for it.

It's also brought us Live a live which would have been stuck in japan without hd2d. Pretty good overall if you ask me.

Re: Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase July 2025: Every Announcement, Game Reveal, Trailer

mlt

Not my kind of monster hunter. Unless they've decided to turn it into an action rpg. We'll see.

Other than that they clearly deliberately chose not to show the bigger more blockbustery stuff. I mean even big stuff that we know about weren't there. It's probably part of a strategy though I have to say I fail to see the point of that strategy so far.

P3 makes me very happy.
Adventure of Elliot makes me ecstatic and is the only huge news for me in there.
Cronos makes me curious and I very much it will be good because it looks like it has potential.
That's about it really. Not great but not bad.

Re: Switch Online's SNES Update Has Apparently Upgraded The CRT Filter

mlt

I'm not a crt filter guy but I really liked the one they put in there for NES and SNES particularly. I hope the new one is also good.

Here's what I don't get though. Why don't we keep the now older crt filter as an option? Give us a choice! Same thing for that COM difficulty thing in MKW I just read in that other topic. They lower the difficulty, don't do that, give us difficulty settings instead!

Why does nintendo never do options? Like ever?

Re: Mario Kart World Has Been Updated To Version 1.2.0, Here Are The Full Patch Notes

mlt

Increased the frequency of lap-type courses appearing in the selection when choosing the next course in “VS Race” and wireless races.

Okay internet, following these excellent news I fully expect a wave of positivity the same magnitude as the earthquake of negativity we've had when it was the other way around.
Wait.

What triggers me though is easier COM. I know A LOT of people complain about COM being too hard this time around but god no. Stop complaining about difficulty, most people don't even know how to play the game yet. For once COM are good enough. I've heard they seem to be adaptative AI, that's awesome damnit. If people keep complaining about it we'll end up with MK8 difficulty tier which was ridiculously easy. I swear fanbases are such a curse these days.

Nintendo games really haven't had a very good run lately when it comes to challenge. MKW and DKB seem better than their predecessors in that regard so let them be. It's a good trend don't kill it, encourage them to keep doing that!

Re: Ubisoft Reportedly Cancels Star Wars Outlaws Sequel

mlt

Honestly I understand why they're going with star wars for NS2 but I'm surprised they're not going with the Jedi games instead. That would have been easier to port and a sure win imo. Not incredible numbers of course since a lot of people already played them but it would have been a safe bet at least.

Re: Best Donkey Kong Games Of All Time

mlt

DK64 is too high.
DK94 being this high is nice though.
DKCTF is for a lot of people the best platformer ever and the best of the DKC games. To me 94, 1, 2 and TF should be the top of the list in that order. I have not played Bananza enough and I can't rate it. It is starting great but not TF/2 kind of great. Not even Odyssey great so far. We'll see as I progress through the story.

BTW Jungle Beat is an excellent game that I would personally rate as high as DKC3 and higher than Returns.

Re: Switch 2 Launch Helps Boost US Video Game Spending To Record June High

mlt

@Fiergala
It's good though the NS1 version struggles a bit in the performance department which is kind of hard to forgive. The second game runs better than the first though. The QOL stuff is nice and the games are very good examples of jrpgs that were not afraid of trying different things both gameplay wise and for the narration. It's in the line of Chrono and Valkyrie Profile and the likes. The presentation is artistically top notch and back in the day people were like if this is what we can do with 2d backgrounds then there is still definitely life in it. This game could not have been done if it had targeted full 3d and the result would not have been this special. Nintendo Life still found a way to compare BK with a money fueled blockbuster like FFX though, go figure. So much for checking what made the game special when it was first released. Contextualize damnit!

I still need to check it on NS2 though. It's very susceptible to run better since the framerate was all over the place in the first game in some situations, it probably was uncapped.
