Re: Magnetic Joy-Con Sticks Already In The Works For Switch 2 Amid Fears Of Drift

mlt

My OG joycons started to drift about 3 or 4 years after release. Now they are completely dysfunctional with even more problems that started to add up (sl and sr not working anymore for example, and led also after a while).
That was a trainwreck tbh and extremely disappointing as an old nintendo fan. That company had a reputation of making the sturdiest stuff out there. Then again they also had the reputation of always being more accessible as in affordable and here we are. I guess Ninty has changed since the Wii days.

To be fair though after this happened I bought replacement joycons and these still work absolutely fine. My pro con started to have a slight drift downward, and I could even see it using the testing tool in the settings of the console. But this has been corrected software wise through updating the controller so no problem there.

I really hope these joycons 2 are going to be more durable and that nintendo will try to win back that reputation.

"This was the moment Xenoblade Chronicles went from a game I loved to a game that was special to me."

Exactly this.
Sometimes I play other xenoblade games and I'm reminded of things like that and I wonder why I'm not just playing the first one instead. (not really though I absolutely adore 3)

Re: PSA: Got A Switch 2 Pro Controller? This Little Capture Trick Is A Game-Changer

mlt

@SBandy1

I've played a couple matches and tried different character types to try out various imput combinations and there it is. I'm not a fan of having asymmetric dpad and buttons, I loved the Wii U for that and regret that they did not follow suit. That being said as far as asymmetric controllers go, that one is one of the most comfortable if not the most to be honest, and that's compared to Xbox elite and PS5 regular and also other Nintendo controllers. I am a lot less bothered by the asymmetrical layout than I usually am. It's also generally better than the NS1 pro and it makes it feel a bit clunky in comparison. Despite the asymmetrical layout and also even if I have one of these snes 8bitdo incredible controllers, I definitely thought between matches that I could play SF6 with the NS2 pro if I'm feeling too lazy to charge or pair up the 8bitdo snes or even if I am switching games and don't want to bother changing pads. I don't think that I would be at a disadvantage with it and it is a perfectly functional and comfortable way to play the game that even made me forget about the layout that I'm not particularly fond of.

When it comes to the dpad specifically, it's quite simple really. I don't think I missed more than a couple special moves with it. It all comes out as intended and with no problem at all, almost 100% and to be honest that could be just me adjusting to a new controller. It's very reliable, night and day with NS1 pro and the only special that were just a bit harder to pull off were charges, specifically horizontal <- -> p/k ones, but again it generally worked really well and that could be just me adjusting.

I did not have time to try out USF2 though so that's just SF6. And really, where that thing really shines is that it's incredibly comfortable. And that's a general observation, not just for SF6. Both in how your hands rest on it and just using the sticks, pad and buttons. It's just so smooth and it feels organic and natural. I honestly think in that regard it is the best of the asymmetric controllers period. We'll see how it holds up with time but so far it's terrific.

Oh and also, for SF6, no imput lag that I could notice. Even though if I'm being honest I tend to adjust to lag fairly easily in other games and other consoles, so I don't complain too much about it even when it's not great, but I definitely notice it at first, and I am happy to report there is no such thing here, for me at least.

Now my dream would be the exact same controller with the WiiU button layout that would be the perfect controller for me.

Re: Review: Kunitsu-Gami: Path Of The Goddess (Switch 2) - Tower Defence With A Twist In Capcom's Gorgeous, Yokai-Slaying Hybrid

mlt

I'm not really into tower defense and the amount of strategy I can stomach is around the level of Pikmin, with a small number of units and direct combat strategy rather than having to manage resources and equipment and other boring activities like these.

However I absolutely adore the look of the game and the action part seems to be right up my alley. Would anyone still recommend this to me or is it a pass?

Re: Round Up: The Final Previews Are In For Mario Kart World

mlt

Story is not what drives you forward in an open world. I don't need a story to explore stuff.

In fact in most open world story is precisely what gets in the way. They're still not really sure how to make a good story driven open world and that explains the success of BotW for example even though many still have not pinpointed it.
Story is good for more linear experiences and still quite cumbersome in open worlds. This MK game, partly because it has no story, promises a pretty good open world experience. I hope it delivers.

Re: Video: Do You Even Need A Pro Controller For The Switch 2?

mlt

@NeonPizza
I agree 100% on the WiiU button placement being the best out of all.
Symmetric sticks above the dpad and buttons. That's how it should be done and it works infinitely better for everything.

Unfortunately Ninty gave up due to the WiiU line being unsuccessful, they weren't able to settle their own standard. They had to follow the competition which had become absolute gold standard at that point but that doesn't mean it's better far from it.

Re: "If You're A Real Fan, You'll Find A Way" - Borderlands 4 Dev Gives Tone Deaf Response To Price Concerns

mlt

Borderlands is EXACTLY the kind of game I'm not going to buy anymore because of the increase in price. It's a game I like but I'm absolutely not paying this much it. Now if it was cheaper I might have considered it. Plus we all know it will be on sale soon enough.

For those who defend this comment, you do realize what he is saying not only shows impressive levels of arseholery but also simply semantically makes no sense? Come on you're better than that. Have a little self respect.

Re: Best 4K TVs For Nintendo Switch 2

mlt

I never even used a 4k tv.
Me and my friends tend to consider resolution is more of an extra and not the main feature. The main feature is stuff like imput lag and refresh rates. 4k and hdr is nice but it's just an added bonus. Plus we have kids and jobs and blah blah so we sort of left that phase where we're just looking for the biggest screen out there. Actually those of us who really like huge screens invested in projectors and they can just get rid of the screen when kids are around unless they're playing together.

There is also the thing where 4k tvs make your 1080p systems look worse. Ideally I think I would go for all the bells and whistles but not 4k and not too big of a screen. Is the option even there on the market though with all these crazy companies being so desperate to force unneeded technology as "standards", that remains to be seen.

Re: Video: 10 GameCube Games We Want On Switch 2's Online Expansion Pack

mlt

@Jhena

Okay just a thought.
We know that the NS2 is capable of streaming relatively complex stuff to 3 other systems including NS1, right? That's the game share thing.
Now just imagine if they bump it up to 4 systems and they are doing GBA compatibility support using that technology. Wouldn't that be awesome.

Also I will add that several other games have their remakes on NS1 and this has not stopped them to put the legacy version on NSO. Turok and Shadowman come to mind. So hey, maybe there is hope.

Re: Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. Announced For Switch 2

mlt

My god you're telling me on top of having USF2 and very competent ports of Strive and KOFXIII, that thing is going to get VF5, SF6 and eventually the next smash. And that's not even considering legacy stuff with the myriad of snk, arc system and capcom games out there, and even Soul Calibur 2 and stuff like Melee that's inevitably going to be a thing at some point.

That thing is already godlike for fighting games fans.
