Definitely not as needed as the N64 controller. Though they were smart to release this alongside fzero which is probably the only game on the system that sort of requires the overrated analog triggers.
And I mean again, it is more expensive than the last one and again I don't really see how they can justify such a difference in price. Compared to the pro 2 you're paying a bit more but at least get a fully featured controller that's going to be compatible with everything.
Plus remember that the NS2 version of the retro apps let you remap everything game by game. I mean I get that this controller is nice and fzero and smash and blah blah but as far as I am concerned and at this price it's a pass. Or at least much later down the road if ever.
Again I think that putting the blame on Nintendo alone is clearly too simple in that case. They are not the ones doing the key card for their own games. Their games are optimized for a portable for which they take into account the limited space and their games are on the cartridge. This is most likely a result of negotiations with third parties as we've seen them even with the NS going systematically for the cheapest option even if that means downloading half of the game. They don't care about the quality of their own offering and chances are some of them would not even release anything if it was not for these key card things. Of course it's a pity that nintendo has opened the flood gates since now practically every third party is going for this, but I wouldn't be surprised to learn that they nintendo themselves did not really have a choice as a way to open for as much third party support as possible.
We still don't know if we can transfer select games via system transfer though? If I use system transfer is it going to try to automatically transfer everything or will it give me the option to select some games and not the others? Or if I want to do that do I have to perform a system transfer WITHOUT the games so that the NS2 understands that it's now primary system and the NS secondary using the same account and so that it transfers everything else like users and settings and whatnot, and AFTER THAT only use the virtual game card thing to transfer games on a game per game basis? I'm confused but it is important as I do know that the NS2 won't have enough space on its own to transfer everything form my NS. Is it just going to tell me nope you need to buy an SD card otherwise no transfer for you buddy?
I. Want. This game. So bad. This is seriously the one game that threw me over the fence for buying that thing. That and of course that I was getting confirmation that first party efforts at least were real cartridges.
@MikeP Because if they don't, they don't get third parties. I don't have proof of this but it's obvious, third party systematically go for the cheapest. It's not Nintendo doing the key card thing for their own games. They invented this as an incentive to get more third parties because they are cheap and they don't care one second about their craft. Heck they don't even care enough to at least optimize their games a little for NS2 versions. This console is a handled, it should not be treated as a PS5. Who the heck releases 70gig games FOR A HANDLED.
A carrying case, probably not the official one we'll see. A pro controller and that's it.
I was planning on picking up an SD express thingy but there's no way I am buying anything else than a 1T one and it looks like they are impossible to find so there you are.
@larryisaman
Between the dlcs, the n64 also which is actually the one retro system I've played the most, the upcoming GC of course and stuff like the awesome f-zero 99 and whatnot, chances are you will get a year out of it and probably more since they keep updating it. And even when it comes to updating, the retro games are drip fed and that's annoying I agree but when taking everything in consideration, they also add little things like the music, more dlcs... So even the updating of content is not as bad as people make it out to be. And again the price which they have not touched so far and I certainly hope they won't, is quite low for what it is.
Random encounters need to go. I've said it already on this site but there are absolutely no good reasons for random encounters in our day and age. I still haven't played Octopath because of them. I skipped the last Mario rpg because of the insane decision to implement random encounters in a series that did not have them. I've played bravely default though. Thanks to that feature. Just get rid of it, it's terrible, it brings nothing to the table, it's just an excuse of a design.
The steamdeck is an emulation thing right? That's definitely what I understand from people using it around the web. And also it's a machine on which people who like to play around with tech try to play high end games to see if they can make them work and then when they're done they play them on their high end pc instead.
Only three? Come on people that's impossible. Three is the number of games I would have OUT of the list. I'd replace Most Wanted with Underground 2, I really don't care about the Simpsons game and same for Burnout. All of the others though? Bring them on!
I heard this one was excellent! Never played it myself though.
Also that's not on topic but I've seen this news on Nintendo Today this morning and you know what else I've seen there? Tutorial videos for DKB and it's got a killer funk hip hop track have you heard that banger of a track? It got me pumped for that ost in a single 30s clip!
It's a good game but definitely not as good as 3 and 5. So the choice of that game is a bit baffling to me. There is quite a lot to do to make it better and to avoid a situation where the millions of Skyrim fans out there just fire it up and realize that it's really not up to snuff.
@Blofse
I can confirm you should focus on Cyberpunk and Witcher, they both are better games. You never know though maybe they reworked big chunks of the game and it's now much better.

Thanks for that post man I can't believe some of the stuff I'm reading here.
That's actually looking pretty good. I hope we get decent fps on good old NS. Yes I started to say NS for switch since NS2 will be easier than typing switch 2.
@Gameplay4fun Okay thanks for the insight. I actually quite liked 4. The setting was fun and the boat was a novelty at the time and quite fun to play around with. And it had sea shanties to sing along.
Is that one any good? I mean as far as I'm concerned I'm way more content to get the occasional star wars game and PoP rather than anything Assassin's creed. I don't have time anymore for soulless open world whatever fests. And that sounds incredibly harsh but to be clear, I understand that some gamers like to be lost in a giant open world and don't mind the go from point A to B rince repeat gameplay and the overall uninteresting lore or story. I also get that some actually enjoy the lore and story. To each his own but it never was appealing to me and as I've said I don't have infinite gaming time, I need to be selective and for this kind of experience I don't have time anymore.
I'm really looking forward to this one. I was kind of hoping for a Jedi double pack but I was pleasantly surprised that they were going for this more recent and quite ambitious one.
I was waiting for options. Let us set how many laps we want. Let us get rid of npcs altogether. Since it's an open world game, let us create our own races, our own custom championships. That last thing might be there in some capacity from what we've seen, so finger's crossed. This series needs options. It never really had options, that really should change.
Alien and Megaman collection? Not that it matters too much though, I have so much to transfer I'm not sure I'll be able to do it right away with the ordeal that it is currently to get a SD express that's acceptable in terms of storage.
So far only the 256 seem to be available at retailers in Europe et least. That's pretty crap. I hope they figure this out before the console is released.
Nintendo has had several systems that were just upgrades of the previous ones. Namely Snes, GBA, GC, 3DS. All iterative consoles, some succesfull and others not. Out of these only the 3ds had an added gimmick. So yeah, the man doesn't really know his nintendo it seems.
Sony was clearly waiting for Nintendo's move before making their own. They are also very much attached to ps being positioned as a premium product so part of this decision was probably to reposition ps above nintendo for all customers out there who consider that a higher price equals a better product. I'm not saying the economic background is not the main reason for this but the way Sony wants ps to be perceived by customers as a premium thing was probably part of the decision.
I really prefer not having analog triggers tbh. For the exact reason they are giving here. They're good for one super specific style of game and even then there are a ton of racers on the switch even realistic ones and they play well.
Most comments agree with the article and a whole lot of people online that the price of the console is okay. It's the games and everything else around the console.
As far as I'm concerned, for this premium price I would have hoped for double the storage space. I mean a lot of people are going to fill that 256gig just by transferring their switch 1 data, or close to it. And what are the SD card options? 256 max. That's not going to last a whole lot with pretty much all AAA being download only. Knowing that 256 was the biggest SD card they were going to be able to do for now, they should have pushed for a 512gig disk. I honestly think it's a design mistake. I hope we can at least select stuff that we want to transfer as a way to keep as much as we can on switch 1 while still enjoying the games that are updated and save space in that way.
There you are! Now I might buy it. I really wasn't a fan of that alternate fanfic Age of calamity was. It started good and then when you realize it's going to be a let's rewrite history alternate whatever fest it all falls apart.
Gee it's almost like that idea is a really bad one, right ffvii?
I mean that wasn't the strategy for MK8 and I don't think it will be there. The strategy was this : you're going to play that complete package and then we'll add some more that you have to pay for but at this point and thanks to the product being satisfying in terms of content there is a general understanding that the product you've paid for was a complete package and so paying for more comes off as a natural thing to do.
Does the 90€ (90 I still can't believe it) price tag mean we get some sort of life long season pass? I definitely don't think that's the case especially since the new Nintendo is being particularly greedy. Unfortunately I think in their mind it just means they consider it to be a premium product and so price it 10€ above the rest the way they have done with Zelda for generations. But I do think they will adopt a similar strategy to MK8 and wait a couple years before adding paid content.
The also confirmed the NSO variant can be wired to the console via usb during treehouse I seem to remember.
@Smug43
Back in the switch days I would have said 40€ tops since that is the price of the 64 controller but I'm not sure if anything anymore when it comes to pricing.
Now that's a fair price. Especially considering that on top of that it is a perk for NSO now. Can we get fair prices on the rest of it now?
Speaking about NSO it's really good value now. I'm just waiting for when they decide now is a good time to double its price. Hopefully the whole debacle might persuade them that they probably shouldn't.
I did not follow the whole transfer thing, can you transfer selected games and keep the others on your switch 1? That would be a great way to save space on switch 2 while still being able to transfer some key software that you really want to try out on the new screen or the new features or whatnot.
And to that we can all collectively answer yeah right thanks Mr PR.
And also imho the price of the console never was the issue, it's the games, the arbitrary jump from 70 to 90 for the pro controller, the freaking camera which is absolutely a gadget being 60 euros... The price of the console was expected as far as I'm concerned but everything and I mean absolutely everything around it is just too expensive for what it is.
I have to see how the shop works before I decide if it's a disappointment or not. If indeed there are a lot of quick loading easily found and started videos, then indeed an eshop theme would be kind of useless.
Other than that, achievements I couldn't care less about those they are a nuisance, 90% of them are a sad excuse of a challenge or longevity and to be frank and I am quite content with nintendo not going there.
I mean I'd love to trust them on that, and I would have two gens ago, but after the drift debacle and after the super dodgy and frankly disappointing announcement I'm just not sure I trust them with controllers anymore. I used to buy Nintendo controllers with my eyes closed and bragging that they were the best ever!
@dazzleshell
Exactly what about the dpad? It keeps registering two imputs at the same time, sometimes opposite directions. I mean they invented that thing, come on!

Re: The Switch 2 Won't Have Achievements Or eShop Music
I have to see how the shop works before I decide if it's a disappointment or not. If indeed there are a lot of quick loading easily found and started videos, then indeed an eshop theme would be kind of useless.
Other than that, achievements I couldn't care less about those they are a nuisance, 90% of them are a sad excuse of a challenge or longevity and to be frank and I am quite content with nintendo not going there.
Re: It's Official, Switch 2 Joy-Con Will Not Feature Hall Effect Sticks
I mean I'd love to trust them on that, and I would have two gens ago, but after the drift debacle and after the super dodgy and frankly disappointing announcement I'm just not sure I trust them with controllers anymore. I used to buy Nintendo controllers with my eyes closed and bragging that they were the best ever!
@dazzleshell
Exactly what about the dpad? It keeps registering two imputs at the same time, sometimes opposite directions. I mean they invented that thing, come on!
