I want a sequel so bad. It was such a unique, fun game that felt limited by its budget and lack of content. Not too mention the potential world building and aesthetic
I felt like it had a bit of an identity crisis. Showcasing motion controls and casual fun in advertising. but competitively people prefer playing with a normal controllers, and the only substantial mode was playing normal/ranked matches. everything else felt like smaller side content
but that could just be a nature of fighting games. its hard to say would be new modes could realistically be impactful besides a proper story mode. the most i could hope for a sequel are just more characters. arms, stages. and new mechanics to keeps fights more interesting
tbh outside of his raised brows it practically looks like the same design to me. probably pudgier and stylized, the same way the mario cast got updated in wonder, but it just looks like his eyes are just allowed to emote now
if the first 2 comments are anything to go off of, we're finally at the last stage of grief. where we're not only fine with $80 games, but its actually good that its $80 cause now we can make fun of people who dont like it
i hope we can avoid game-keys for as long as we can, but i hate the "in the immediate future" line implying they can and will change their mind whenever they see fit
theres only so much sympathy i can have if "its either this or nothing" when in the end its still passing the expense back to the consumer (storage space in this case), it just lame
i love crafting in the sense that it gives purpose to so many more items, events, and now cooking, but it needs to be fleshed out better. crafting in bulk, changing item themes without cyrus, tweaking how tools work, ect
and there has to be reasons actually USE the other tool types, theres no point in using the weaker variants. give us fishing rods/bug nets that are more likely to catch certain fish/bugs, stone axes that increase the odds of rare items falling from trees, axes that give us cute tree stump patterns, shovels that are more likely to make minerals pop out of rocks, ect
actually give the tools fun uses and gimmicks so people want to mix and match variants. it would give diff tools value and personalize how we want to play even more, rather than it being a roadblock when they break
i gotta give him props for being so blunt. companies could easily argue "its just the state of the industry rn", but nah its cause nintendo and microsoft started the precedent and people are ok with it now
for pure nostalgia and overall a calmer color i like orange. red is already signified by the NSO icon, and orange isnt being used at all anymore. it couldve been the gameshare color to call back to 3ds download play, but nah teal, when its already similar to blue for the album
just an overall odd change. i guess orange is the parental control color now?
@UmbreonsPapa i think what makes this game stick out particularly is just the gall to have a tech-demo looking console showcase be paid at all. every reaction ive seen has just been people going "wait you have to pay for that?". at least 1-2 switch was advertised as an actual game
we can chalk it up to "its no big deal" but its still annoying and even disappointing to see how much overcharging is going on with the switch 2 era. not even the smallest of things can be bundled in anymore
outside free roam mode having missions, the direct just showed us more things for aspects we already knew (theres new characters, courses, and items). everything else seemed like minor, if not cool, additions
outside of open world courses, idk what else a MK could do to hype us up. everyone already just plays MK8D for the online vs and battles already, now its just a matter of if you pay for that again on a new console
keeping the switch 2 console itself a decent price was the smartest thing nintendo couldve done, nobody likes an overpriced console.
but a casual fan buying a switch 2 and realizing how expensive the ecosystem is after the fact? well.. you already got the console, guess you'll reluctantly pay for the games now
@johnvboy folders? no, i imagine the groups come back from switch 1. but i can see custom themes being offered to NSO members overtime, the same way pfp options are exclusive to them
ill always just find it lame the switch couldve had togglable grid menus like on the 3ds, but we're stuck with the linear icon format
still not a fan of the UI outside of the fact its fast and "its good enough". i still dont know why people prefer the 1x1 grid layout of icons and groups when we've already seen how organized and practical a larger grid space and folders are, i doubt the latter would make things load up any slower
it feels less that people prefer it, and more that its just what people got used to since 2017
its less that im "upset" about it not being a pack-in game, cause it honestly looks boring and something ill get my satisfaction with just watching gameplay online, but more at the audacity that they think its worth selling separately
doesnt help how the switch 2 is already overcharging in every angle it can, and here they are selling us a pamphlet too
he's not wrong, nintendos betting on their branding alone to push through the pricing backlash. for some fans its their civic duty to play the newest game as soon as it releases
im not immune, animal crossing has my soul. and thats what theyre hoping a majority of fans will be like for switch 2's launch
thats honestly one way MK worlds price can stick the landing. just constantly give it free updates until its at a MK8D scale of content. nintendo already likes to release half baked NSO online content that takes 2 years to be good
personally i dont think nintendo would gamble with paid dlc near launch, like 3d mario or zelda they'd want MK to be complete game right out the box. but i can see new dlc 2 years later that starts production after MK worlds release
i cant even get mad at how bad it looks when theyre being so blunt about it, we all know why it looks like that. but i do find their approach interesting
nintendo doesnt want us to solely focus on our friends stream, they only want us to get the gist of it and keep it in the bg while we do other stuff
sometimes i just want to watch a friend play something, and i want it to look nice. switch gamechat is not for that, but this is already a niche feature im not expecting to use so ill just move on
honestly i felt that vibe. there wasnt a brand new, console-showcasing IP to strap us in to the next gen. besides mario kart, we can only look forward to switch 1 games with dlc/updates near launch. i can hold off for now
@johnvboy thats fair, not like we can hear the opinions of people outside the bubbles since they whole point is they dont talk. time will tell i suppose
tho if you ask me, one leg up nintendo always had against the competition is that they were the cheap, family friendly option. and now theyre just the family friendly option
@johnvboy nothing i can source, to but just general opinions ive been hearing even outside of nintendo circles. i know you dismiss forum and youtube discussions, but just hearing core nintendo fans/people with families/my talks with friends, all have a sudden hesitation to buy a switch 2 makes me wonder how the average person would feel seeing the prices in store
if a nintendo fanboy is intimidated by the price, how would a typical person whos vaguely enjoys nintendo feel on buying it, yknow? im not fully convinced its a non-issue when people in the store see price first, quality later
@johnvboy i personally wouldnt dismiss the complaints as a loud echo chamber just yet, not that i see this damaging nintendo to wii u levels. the general public can easily ignore gamer complaints but hitting their wallets is another thing
i will say nintendo is clever keeping the console itself a decent price, once you settle on buying a console its a lot easier to commit to buying games even if the new price jumpscares you. i imagine it'll sell decent at launch, but not be the booming success it could be
i surprised to see people prefer the switch 1 red spines. i find them uniform in a boring way, and think its way harder to find games unless my face is right at it reading the text. switch 2 has a much handier visual cue on which game box is which
hate the header with so much empty space tho, wish they did the 3ds boxart thing and just move the logo to another corner of the box or something. theres already a bold number 2 on it in case people think its still confusing
im intrigued but it looks very tech demo-y. the dull colors, bland/empty bgs, faceless avatars, and i cant imagine this game having more than one mode + online
like the end of the article says its a little sad to think such an interesting concept potentially isnt that interesting to play long term
we have every reason to be upset at the precedent $80 games will start, but part of me does want to entertain the idea that it could be worth the price. MK8D + booster pass was already a $85 value
and with this games huge roster plus costumes, and its huge courses. theres a glimmer of "hope" that MK worlds scope of content could be equal to that. thats the one justification i can imagine for this ridiculous price
i dont even need the menus to look flashy, im just disappointed they didnt bring back folders and grid-based icon toggling from 3ds. it was actually useful for organizing games and i rarely had to scroll through menus to see them all
im very skeptical since i can still easily see them remastering GC games for switch at $60, but then again nintendo gave is 2 directs in the same week so anythings possible
perhaps the tides are truly changing, and GC NSO games are exactly what allows the switch to become the ultimate nintendo device. at a $80-110 subscription per year cause they dont wanna be too generous to us yet lol
that said i understand how its a devisive last announcement game. its not a console selling global phenomenon, but a weirdo-nintendo title that was both popular and niche at the same time. im gonna love it but it wont be for everyone
tbh starting off with 3 anime games was enough to tell me to hold off expectations of 1st party announcements from the start. RH and tomodachi life were my highlights like a lot of people but im fully aware those are lower pirority games BELOVED by core fans but arent system sellers. im just said the only games i was interested in are next year titles
its not even a case on if it will sell well (it will) but a ssbu situation, where do you go for a sequel when you've already set the bar so high?
unlikely to sell better than mk8d but it also doesnt need to. the switch 1 in general had an electric sense of excitement when it was new, that we should manage expectation that it'd sell EVEN BETTER than the last
@Daniel36 that still sounds like to me their grounds for a lawsuit are flimsy at best. that said i dont care about palworld or pokemon, both of their tactics are scummy and leave a bad taste in my mouth
im under the impression they'll do amiibo stuff forever, even if i dont remember the last time i bought one. mario maker 1 and animal crossing (cards) are still my fav uses of amiibo. cosmetics that are technically unlockable through normal play, but amiibo get to a serve as a shortcut for getting them
@-wc- im even surprised i dont hear people talk about how easy it'd potentially be to tip the joycon sideways while holding it like a mouse, especially for fast paced games. unless theres some accessory attachment (besides the thin joycon straps) i cant imagine it'd be that comfy long term
but tbh i dont think anyone uses joycons for comfort, theyre just there to get the job done. what im really curious about is how many people have desk set ups to use mouse controls in front of their tv lol

im still at the point where i only pay for the online access. the old games are bonuses i dont touch at all, so im essentially paying more for nothing but sharing the family plan with my friends
we're at the point where nso is stuffed with enough content that it feels less like a rip off, but i still dont take advantage of the free games

theyre finally doing it mario kart world 2
Re: Nintendo Explains Why Mario Kart World Isn't Called 'Mario Kart 9'
Ive always had the impressions they normally use numbered sequels when its essentially the "same game but more". pikmin, splatoon, mario maker, ect.
doesnt always apply like with games like smash bros or mario party, but MKW does seem like a new direction that warrants a nice subtitle
