Re: Poll: How Many Hours Have You Spent In Mario Kart World So Far?

boxyguy

i think what happened from animal crossing NL to NH is happening from mario kart 8 deluxe to world. MK8D is the definitive MK game that every previous entry has been building up to, while world is more of a reboot and pulls back on previous ideas to tackle one giant concept (open world)

its an ambitious game that has a lot of smaller aspects suffer because of it (less focus on legacy races, clunky UI, chaotic balance, lesser battle mode, limited customization)

i finally picked up the game a couple days ago and im enjoying my time with it. intermission tracks havent bored me as im still trying practice and optimize the parkour tricks, and free roam is nice to chill with while i talk with friends. but it is NOT the game to play if you want nothing but 3 lap courses to play on

Re: Switch 2's Welcome Tour Developer Has Been Revealed

boxyguy

@Zyph i see it the same way i could imagine if nintendo theoretically sold face raiders and ar games on 3ds for $5. cause yeah, there could be a lot of reasons why it deserves a price, its a console showcase they put work into. but theyre also such a small, inconsequential games that it almost doesnt matter if people buy it or not

$10 welcome tour doesnt make me mad, but i just roll my eyes at the decision cause i can almost feel nintendo looking back at us for validation to see if enough people buy. it helps that theres not many 1st party games to buy at switch 2 launch

Re: Furukawa's Defence Of Game-Key Cards Ain't All That Convincing

boxyguy

at this point its a glass half full vs half empty mindset. do you see this as a physical game with the cons of digital, or a digital game with the pros of physical?

for my case this is still useless to me, and i find it sleazy to market it as a physical game first since you know people are still gonna misunderstand what this is when they see it on shelves

Re: Of Course Mario Kart World Is Being Review Bombed

boxyguy

@DangoTown well its nice to know the update isnt negatively affecting everyone! im still an outsider looking in, and an update that takes away options isnt a good look, but i can only hope the game can prioritize longevity in a way that satisfies most people

its a bummer to see how polarizing the impressions are when the solution is so obvious at this point. if splatoon 3 can split itself into 5 diff mode queues surly MKW can have have more options too

Re: Of Course Mario Kart World Is Being Review Bombed

boxyguy

review bombing is excessive but i dont see anyone strongly disagreeing with the criticism either, most i see are people being indifferent to whether or not the update changes anything. as far as i can tell everyone would be happier reverting the change

as someone still in the process of getting a switch 2 my enthusiasm has really lowered on this game. not from hearing opinions from "haters" but genuine fans who want this game to be better. ill have fun when i play it, but this game is really showing its warts

Re: Review: Deltarune (Switch 2) - A Superbly Subversive RPG That Defies All Rules

boxyguy

its such a blatantly fun series, i feel cliche saying it has something for everyone. you can enjoy the light hearted dialogue or get invested in the story, just play the normal puzzles and battles or challenge yourself on the secret bosses

and quite telling the main negative is that its not done yet. theres no need to jump into deltarune immediately, but a charming game is waiting for you if you do decide to peek in

Re: Forget Switch 2 Game Key-Cards - "Full On-The-Cart Physical Releases" Are What People Want, Says Publisher Lost In Cult

boxyguy

So far the only defense I hear about game keys are "I don't care so its a good deal". To be fair I don't know how good/bad digital codes in physical boxes have performed in the past, but game keys have the same sentiment and they don't seem appealing at all

At this point just commit and get digital, it's not worth having the cons of both manually needing to change the card AND still downloading the full game

Genuinely wasting your time and shelf space, and what's annoying is how they try and hide that its just a digital game with extra steps

Re: Super Mario Party Jamboree Updated For Switch 2 And Switch (Version 2.0.0)

boxyguy

@JohnnyMind yes ive heard of those! and honestly great rulesets to have even if theyre questionable as a switch 2 exclusive.

i suppose by rule customization i also meant toggles for existing rules we already have (bonus star types, minigame/jamboree toggles, adjusting coin economy, ect) its my dream for MP to have a smash bros-scope of rule toggles, where every corner can be tweaked to create our own challenges and "pro rules" ourselves

but for now thats just a dream, for a party game MP is oddly strict with how it wants you to play

Re: Poll: So, Have You Used Zelda Notes Yet?

boxyguy

the more i think about it the more it feels like the NSO app is just a lot of repurposed 2nd screen ideas the wii u gamepad wouldve used if the system took off

which on paper does sound really nice, especially useful for ACNH qr codes and message typing. but i dont think a lot of fans even remember the app is a thing

Re: It's Official, Switch 2 Has Sold Over 3.5 Million Units Globally In Its First Four Days

boxyguy

selling the $450 system with $50 mario kart was the easy part, like nintendo said they wanted to prioritize selling systems as soon as possible

luckily i dont think fans have that many problems with the system or game quality. if the product is good people will buy regardless, but it'll be an uphill battle from here now that the $50 game bundle price isnt an option anymore

i hope to get one someday, but for now our switch 2 bundle price converts to +$600 oof

Re: Digital Foundry Delivers Its Mario Kart World Tech Review - "Nintendo's Artistry Stands Out The Most Here"

boxyguy

Im quite curious how many people are actually feeling that $80 value. Cause yeah it's gonna be a beloved game played for years, but so was MK8D at $60

Besides tiptoeing around the fact we'll play it for a long time, or bought cheaper with a bundle, are fans feeling that $20 content increase compared to what came before?

I don't mean this as a jab, I know I'll eventually bite the bullet and get a switch 2. So I'm curious what the consensus with our first $80 game is. It won't be the last, and we won't have the excuse of buying it cheaper with a bundle anymore

Re: Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour Trailer Highlights New Minigames & Tech Demos

boxyguy

i can see this becoming a smash hit for no other reason that theres nothing else to get at launch. i know WHY they want us to pay for it (in nintendos eyes, its either make money with this game, or not), they know this looks underwhelming and wont move systems the way wii sports did. so might as a well squeeze some purchases out of it. no thanks

Re: Nintendo Switch Online App Undergoes Major Revamp For Switch 2

boxyguy

oh thank god, transferring screenshots has always been so clunky. especially when videos can only be transferred one at a time

honestly a great win for the app. probably the biggest reason ill open it, next to scanning qr codes for acnh patterns. btw PLEASE let us scan qr codes of miis it'll be so helpful for the upcoming tomodachi life game

Re: Opinion: Upgraded For Switch 2, ARMS Deserves A Second Shot At Greatness

boxyguy

I want a sequel so bad. It was such a unique, fun game that felt limited by its budget and lack of content. Not too mention the potential world building and aesthetic

I felt like it had a bit of an identity crisis. Showcasing motion controls and casual fun in advertising. but competitively people prefer playing with a normal controllers, and the only substantial mode was playing normal/ranked matches. everything else felt like smaller side content

but that could just be a nature of fighting games. its hard to say would be new modes could realistically be impactful besides a proper story mode. the most i could hope for a sequel are just more characters. arms, stages. and new mechanics to keeps fights more interesting

Re: Nintendo: "Physical Games Are Still A Key Part Of Our Business"

boxyguy

i hope we can avoid game-keys for as long as we can, but i hate the "in the immediate future" line implying they can and will change their mind whenever they see fit

theres only so much sympathy i can have if "its either this or nothing" when in the end its still passing the expense back to the consumer (storage space in this case), it just lame

Re: Talking Point: How Can The Next Animal Crossing Improve Crafting?

boxyguy

i love crafting in the sense that it gives purpose to so many more items, events, and now cooking, but it needs to be fleshed out better. crafting in bulk, changing item themes without cyrus, tweaking how tools work, ect

and there has to be reasons actually USE the other tool types, theres no point in using the weaker variants. give us fishing rods/bug nets that are more likely to catch certain fish/bugs, stone axes that increase the odds of rare items falling from trees, axes that give us cute tree stump patterns, shovels that are more likely to make minerals pop out of rocks, ect

actually give the tools fun uses and gimmicks so people want to mix and match variants. it would give diff tools value and personalize how we want to play even more, rather than it being a roadblock when they break

Re: Poll: Orange Or Red Switch eShop - Make Your Choice

boxyguy

for pure nostalgia and overall a calmer color i like orange. red is already signified by the NSO icon, and orange isnt being used at all anymore. it couldve been the gameshare color to call back to 3ds download play, but nah teal, when its already similar to blue for the album

just an overall odd change. i guess orange is the parental control color now?

Re: Switch 2 'Welcome Tour' Estimated File Size Revealed By Nintendo

boxyguy

@UmbreonsPapa i think what makes this game stick out particularly is just the gall to have a tech-demo looking console showcase be paid at all. every reaction ive seen has just been people going "wait you have to pay for that?". at least 1-2 switch was advertised as an actual game

we can chalk it up to "its no big deal" but its still annoying and even disappointing to see how much overcharging is going on with the switch 2 era. not even the smallest of things can be bundled in anymore

Re: Nintendo Direct: Mario Kart World: Every Announcement - How Would You Rate It?

boxyguy

outside free roam mode having missions, the direct just showed us more things for aspects we already knew (theres new characters, courses, and items). everything else seemed like minor, if not cool, additions

outside of open world courses, idk what else a MK could do to hype us up. everyone already just plays MK8D for the online vs and battles already, now its just a matter of if you pay for that again on a new console

Re: PS5 Digital Edition Now More Expensive Than Switch 2 In UK & Europe

boxyguy

keeping the switch 2 console itself a decent price was the smartest thing nintendo couldve done, nobody likes an overpriced console.

but a casual fan buying a switch 2 and realizing how expensive the ecosystem is after the fact? well.. you already got the console, guess you'll reluctantly pay for the games now

Re: Gallery: Here's A Sneak Peek Of The Nintendo Switch Online App For Switch 2

boxyguy

still not a fan of the UI outside of the fact its fast and "its good enough". i still dont know why people prefer the 1x1 grid layout of icons and groups when we've already seen how organized and practical a larger grid space and folders are, i doubt the latter would make things load up any slower

it feels less that people prefer it, and more that its just what people got used to since 2017

Re: Reggie Fils-Aimé Weighs In On 'Switch 2 Welcome Tour' Controversy (Sort Of)

boxyguy

its less that im "upset" about it not being a pack-in game, cause it honestly looks boring and something ill get my satisfaction with just watching gameplay online, but more at the audacity that they think its worth selling separately

doesnt help how the switch 2 is already overcharging in every angle it can, and here they are selling us a pamphlet too

Re: Ex-PlayStation Boss Comments On Switch 2's "Hefty" Price Hikes

boxyguy

he's not wrong, nintendos betting on their branding alone to push through the pricing backlash. for some fans its their civic duty to play the newest game as soon as it releases

im not immune, animal crossing has my soul. and thats what theyre hoping a majority of fans will be like for switch 2's launch

Re: Mario Kart World "Paid DLC" Would Be A Big No-No, According To Ex-Nintendo Duo

boxyguy

thats honestly one way MK worlds price can stick the landing. just constantly give it free updates until its at a MK8D scale of content. nintendo already likes to release half baked NSO online content that takes 2 years to be good

personally i dont think nintendo would gamble with paid dlc near launch, like 3d mario or zelda they'd want MK to be complete game right out the box. but i can see new dlc 2 years later that starts production after MK worlds release

Re: Switch 2 GameChat Choppy Frame Rate Explained By Nintendo

boxyguy

i cant even get mad at how bad it looks when theyre being so blunt about it, we all know why it looks like that. but i do find their approach interesting

nintendo doesnt want us to solely focus on our friends stream, they only want us to get the gist of it and keep it in the bg while we do other stuff

sometimes i just want to watch a friend play something, and i want it to look nice. switch gamechat is not for that, but this is already a niche feature im not expecting to use so ill just move on
