Re: Nintendo Switch "Lifetime US Unit Sales" Surpass Xbox 360

boxyguy

@nimnio funny how the switch oled ended up being that $350 upgrade haha, but it does have my mind racing on what a NEW switch would be exactly. i feel theres a line between people expecting a minor hardware boost like 3ds to new 3ds, or a pure jump to next gen console like ps4 to ps5. id hope for the latter just for the sake of a better switch UI alone

Re: Nintendo Switch "Lifetime US Unit Sales" Surpass Xbox 360

boxyguy

@HalBailman thats true, the switch is a much more subtle yet impactful gimmick they can carry on to a sequel. it'll be quite a bold step, nintendo rarely makes a powerful console with no new gimmicks just for the sake of it. consoles like SNES and gamecube didnt sell that much better than their previous gen counterparts when all they could offer was being a simply more powerful version

that could be an apples vs oranges comparison tho, i just find it interesting. i can easily see the pendulum swinging to the other side and people wishing the switch took a more bold direction, arguing a switch pro only appeals to hardcore fans that want better framerate and more 3rd parties games to come to it natively

that said i desperately want them to continue the console/handheld hybrid, i play my switch 95% of the time portable

Re: Nintendo Switch "Lifetime US Unit Sales" Surpass Xbox 360

boxyguy

makes me wonder where nintendo will go for their next console. as obvious as the switch 2 sounds their last attempt at a console sequel massively bombed

theyre always preaching innovation so i honestly dont know if they'll play it safe with a simply more powerful switch or not

Re: Fortnite's Dev Really Wants A Crossover With Nintendo But Hasn't Had Any Luck

boxyguy

lets not be to hasty with dismissal, minecraft was once considered the "cringy" new game for kids and we're just in another generation of that with fortnite. im not into either games and people need to stop having a high horse on thinking their too cool and good for it

nintendo is both strict and odd with who they chose to collab with. rabbids, starlink, skylanders? i didnt see much annoyance towards those. nintendos late to everything, give them time and we'll reach a point where a crossovers inevitable. fortnite being a ftp game could be one push back tho, thats one market theyre very careful in

Re: Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Celebrating 5th Anniversary With New Spirits

boxyguy

i still really love the concept of spirits, they were a clever way to mix in trophies, stickers, equipment, events, and a story mode all into one. my only wish was they came with descriptions, or had a zoom feature since those pngs can be pretty detailed

ive collected and max leveled all the spirit so spirit events never interested me, i might hop back in to keep collecting. im even a weirdo that likes to tinker with equipment to personalize my mii fighters just for the fun of it

Re: The New Sims Game Is Using Animal Crossing's Multiplayer As A Source Of Inspiration

boxyguy

"make your own fun" is such a double edged sword in this case, i found AC multiplayer underwhelming since all the minigames were cut. and in general we were expected to make our own fun with island decorating despite all the previous content they removed

im not familiar with sims but i can easily see EA take the approach of less content but "imagine the possibilities! do anything you want!"

Re: Best WarioWare Games Of All Time

boxyguy

its weird to think about how different the handheld and console games are structured. they both have story-structured microgames, but handhelds focus on solo content and collectables while consoles focus on local multiplayer party modes

besides Snapped, all of these are bangers for their respective system, i just wish the newer games had more to do for solo players. GiT is arguably the best solo console experience and Move It the best party multiplayer one, i just wish they'd program some CPUs so the modes were more accessible

Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give WarioWare: Move It?

boxyguy

i think this is the most fun warioware by far with the multiplayer being a blast if you have people to play with, but without multiplayer youre literally missing out on half the content. missed opportunity not bringing back coins and buying "souvenirs" for the resort theme, or even more solo modes. that made replaying the game a lot more rewarding than just going for highscores

i probably prefer GiT more just for giving me more to do as a solo player, and it has more competitive edge too with precise button controls, leaderboards, and character viability which makes it fun to replay.

but both are fantastic games that capture diff roles, and i think thats a best case scenario for both games so one doesnt simply replace the other. i just wish they'd program some CPUs to play against, i can rarely gather people for local multiplayer nowadays lol

Re: Super Mario Party + Red & Blue Joy-Con Bundle Announced

boxyguy

As polarizing as this game is, I still think it's a genuinely great game that suffers from issues that were easily fixable and aren't even the gameplays fault. We couldve gotten more boards, fixed the SLOW ui, make any controller usable, ect

Now that we have superstars I'd love for them revisit SMP's weirder ideas. Partner Party's is nonlinear board exploration is so fun, and I like how unique each character is with their own dice

Re: Review: WarioWare: Move It! - A Fine Return For Wario's Wii-Era, Motion-Based Mayhem

boxyguy

@Croctopus agreed! as someone who grew up with the handheld WWs, multiplayer was never a spotlight for me. GiT may not be a console showcase, but its still an creative idea thats pushed to its near limit. and as a solo player its arguably the most competitive and strategic of the whole series, with precise button controls and character viability

i have friends that specifically dont play WW cause of its motion controls, and not everyone can do these forms for one reason or another. so its cool that GiT and Move It cover both sides of the spectrum of what people want out of a WW game

Re: The First Review For WarioWare: Move It! Is In

boxyguy

ill be dead and buried before im convinced a warioware game can be bad

seems like it'll be fun. i am a little sad with the loss of wario cup since i wont have people to play multiplayer with, but this is still gonna be a blast

Re: Sakurai Is Sceptical That Future Smash Bros. Titles Can Match Ultimate's Scope

boxyguy

i literally cant imagine how they can top ult unless they just rerelease some deluxe version, but i always respected how he puts his best foot forward directing games. always delivering as if its the last game in the series

in a sea on multiplayer games drowned in battles passes and "free updates", its refreshing that sakurai proves games can be packed experiences at launch and still be massive successes. this game had dlc but i dont think anyone would argue it didnt have enough content at launch

Re: Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door Has Already Been Rated For Switch

boxyguy

cant overstate how excited i am for this, especially with how bleak those TOK interviews were insisting the traditional style would never comeback

TOK was already great with its world and characters, but with TTYD amazing character designs and battle system, future entries may possibly have the best of both worlds?

Re: 3DS And Wii U Online Play Ends In "Early April" 2024

boxyguy

sad to see an era truly come to a close, this was the first one i got to experience from a full beginning to end

at this point there was no proper way to end it, just rip it off like a bandaid and let to wound heal. but if riiconnected24 and pretendo network means anything, its that anyone who truly still wants to play their 3ds/wii u online, eventually will

Re: Hands On: WarioWare Move It! Takes Us Right Back To A Wii Classic

boxyguy

so excited i am for this. i never got a chance to play smooth moves, and just the fact warioware returned on switch AGAIN as a proper joycon showcase makes me happy

plus, since Gold theyve done a great job letting the character's personalities shine and interact with each other. its a fun game with a fun cast

and i agree we need better unlockables and minigames, GiT had fun modes but only if you had people to play with

Re: Random: Making "Miyamoto Happy" Isn't The Goal Of Development, According To Pikmin 4's Creators

boxyguy

i know he's been a polarizing figure since the "stale" mario days, but from what i can tell he's been pretty hands off with most projects nowadays. mario odyssey is already an example of how he oversee a project, but have the directors have the actual final say

even sticker star, his most infamously influenced game wanting less story and unique characters, has awful game mechanics miyamoto wasnt involved in, and even found boring. i dont think his feedback alone makes a game better or worse, just directors and teams that dont have a proper vision of the game
