Re: Opinion: Sonic Racing Crossworlds > Mario Kart World, And It's Not Even Close For Me

boxyguy

Having played and enjoyed both (and not even being a sonic fan), I think MKW has higher highs but lower lows, and SRC is more consistently good. MKW is has more exciting moments but more dumb decisions, while SCW doesn't really have any major cons just being a content-packed arcade racer

That is to say, the only loser here is our wallets, console wars are so back. GAMER FIGHTTTTT

Re: Review: Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds (Switch) - Cracking Karting, But Struggles To Keep Up On Switch

boxyguy

funny enough my main way of playing crossworlds is switch 2 handheld mode and its been a blast, but its incredibly jarring how nicer this game looks on other platforms lol. the framerate personally hasnt distracted me during a race luckily

beyond the switch hardware fumbles, the only other major complaints ive seen are about end-game cosmetics being super grindy, slippery controls to adapt to if youre not used to arcade racers, excessive dlc, and the price. and i agree, but other than that fantastic game

Re: Mario Kart World Has Been Updated To Version 1.3.0, Here Are The Full Patch Notes

boxyguy

big free roam W! i found it really charming at launch but after collecting all the obvious switches and medallions it just became a waiting room between matches id barely explore anymore

ufo will help us find a lot more blind spots, and i genuinely still love the idea of the open world. its sparks my childhood wonder of wanting to explore these courses out of bounds

Re: Mario Kart World Has Been Updated To Version 1.3.0, Here Are The Full Patch Notes

boxyguy

@Bigmanfan actually i think it does effect online play. i havent tried the update yet but 1.2.0 used the exact same wording, "increased the frequency of lap-type courses appearing in the selection when choosing the next course in “VS Race” and wireless races"

i find it confusing too. i guess in their mind online play is lumped in with wireless races, but they couldve said it more clearly

Re: Round Up: The Reviews Are In For Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds

boxyguy

its really interesting to contrast the crossworld segments and how theyre essentially small-scale, more exciting versions of MKW intermissions roads

hoping to pick this up! while i think MKW is more polished with better game feel, i think this game has more content and customization to pull people in

Re: "Everyone Is A Director" At Nintendo, Says Former Dev, But Don't Make Excuses

boxyguy

It's why I personally hate the "nobody asked for this" argument over games we don't like. Nobody asked nintendo to make mario galaxy or odyssey either, but now that it's made all people want are sequels or dlcs packs for em

I think a lot of us only know how to ask for sequels. The actual devs have to create the new, innovative ideas first and its why nintendos survived for this long (whether or not these new ideas succeed is a whole other story)

Re: GungHo's Switch Free-To-Play 'Ninjala' Looks To Be Winding Down Major Support

boxyguy

i played a lot during the early years since playing online didnt require NSO. im also surprised by what an underground success this apparently was. not only surviving as a switch exclusive, but collabing with several popular anime, having +180 episodes of an ACTUAL anime, and aforementioned merchandise

i eventually stopped playing just cause one ftp game cant hold my attention forever. story chapters took forever to come out too, by the time they did i lost interest lol

Re: Round Up: The Reviews Are In For Drag x Drive

boxyguy

@somnambulance I really like arms and still want a sequel, but yeah even back then it felt like an early sign to what a slog nintendos "free update" model will be. Part of me feels bad cause you can tell how much story arms wanted to tell, but they weren't even allowed to finish their graphic novel in development

Re: Round Up: The Reviews Are In For Drag x Drive

boxyguy

even with the praise the gameplay gets, never underestimate the power of the vibes. its a shame how much more everyone believes the game could be, it makes me wonder about a timeline where splatoon or arms got the $20 treatment

Re: Review: Drag x Drive (Switch 2) - A Real Baller With Friends, But Is There Enough To Do?

boxyguy

my impression from this review and playing the demo is that the game can be fun, exhilarating, and have a lot of skill expression. but its a matter of IF people wanna do all that with how hard the game is control at first

kinda reminds me of battle leagues game model. barren modes and customization, but hoping the replayable high skill expression will warrant a decent fanbase

the $20 price at least means this game can get away with less. i did enjoy the demo and want to play more, but if the online scene dies idk if playing against cpus the whole time would save it for me

Re: PSA: Shoot Some Hoops With Drag x Drive's Dev Team This Weekend

boxyguy

having played for an hour my first impression is this game takes a lot more dexterity to control than i thought, doing precise turns and tricks especially. but ive been having fun, id like to practice and play more matches

not sure about mouse controls on my legs tho. its comfy but moving straight hasnt been consistent, it could be the folds on my shorts

Re: Nintendo Announces New 'Hello, Mario!' App For Switch And Mobile Devices

boxyguy

its interesting being in the gradual progression of nintendo fostering their lil community bubble, its more than making games and consoles now. we got amusement parks, movies, apps, QOL gadgets, lego sets and toys for both older and younger ages, ect

im not even saying this is anything new or even bad, businesses will business. but its now more apparent than ever nintendo wants us to think about them every minute of the day (i say, regularly checking a nintendo news site lol)

Re: Mario Kart World Has Been Updated To Version 1.2.0, Here Are The Full Patch Notes

boxyguy

@KoopaTheGamer having played for the past hour or so im already noticing that random picks a lap-type course more often, opposed to the last update doing it almost never. im even seeing lap courses appear as an option more, i even saw 2 at once one time

hard to saw how well the update is working for everyone tho since we're still at the mercy of roulette luck, but my impression so far is we have more lap course frequency

Re: Mario Kart World Has Been Updated To Version 1.2.0, Here Are The Full Patch Notes

boxyguy

rereading this again has me concerned. the update only mentions increasing lap-type tracks for "VS races" and wireless races. as in, "online play" isnt included? or is that included in the wireless races already?

im more ok with intersection tracks than others, but even ive found them overbearing after a while, especially when the fun parkour tricking are mainly on the lap-type courses. overtime ive found intersection laps more fun in a turn-my-brain-off way, not the test-my-skill kinda way

Re: Round Up: The Reviews Are In For Super Mario Party Jamboree - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV

boxyguy

having played Jamboree TV for the day, i think its quite telling how duct taped together this DLC is with the main game. i wouldve preferred if all the new content flowed together in the hubworld, but you quite literally have to decide first if you want SMP mode, or Jamboree TV mode

and just very janky menus. playing Jamboree TV doesnt give you party points, theres weirdly a lot of cutscene fluff before you can pick your character, carnival coaster and tag team rules cant solo queue, and when you exit Jamboree TV it plays the staff credits every time (tho you can skip them)

the actual content is fun enough, you get 3 camera games and 3 mic games for bowser live, and 14 mouse games which can also be featured in the board games. its just very disjointed dlc depending on whether you care more about wacky side mode local play (bowser live and carnival coaster), or new board rules and mouse minigames

Re: Review: Super Mario Party Jamboree - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV - A Fantastic Addition To An All-Time Party Game

boxyguy

I'm getting the dlc for it being the only console showcase GAME we have so far. Helps i finally resorted to spending my gold points for a cheaper price

I love mario party enough to try it out, but it's still frustrating how little polishing/updating was done to the main game. I'd love even little things more rule toggles and minigame options for the main game. There's so much content in this game that's just, segmenting into smaller side modes

Re: Opinion: Celebrating 20 Years Of Baseball In The Mushroom Kingdom

boxyguy

I always theorized that part of why we didn't get a new baseball game is cause that requires having a LOT of characters with unique animations and courses, something nintedo was very selective with after starting the HD era, and battle league definitely proving they want to do the bare minimum

Now with MK world out, that gives me more hope baseball will come back, and they'll be less strict and go wild with character picks again. I loved this series as a kid

Re: Random: We're Big Fans Of This Switch 2 Summer Gaming Solution

boxyguy

on one hand its a shame how the ports cant even be used for more gimmicky accessories without damaging the system, but on the other hand i wouldnt even want to do this even if i could

as a handheld players its WILD how bad the battery is at roughly 2 hours, i gotta constantly keep this thing charged after every session. its humorous how welcome tour doenst even highlight the battery life, just saying they "did their best"

Re: Nintendo Announces 'Global Jam' Demo Event For Switch 2 Online Members

boxyguy

I may eventually give this game a shot with it being the only new game made to showcase mouse control, but the $20 price does make me a lil sad. That DEFINITELY tells me there's nothing more to this game, and outside of sidemodes like jamboree TV they really don't have any bigger showcases for it. Warioware save us

Re: Feature: Three Laps, Two Players, One Vegas Jumpsuit - 10 Things We'd Love To See Added To Mario Kart World

boxyguy

having played for a few days, the intersection tracks dont bother me as much as i expected. but that could be the casual player inside me actually liking to drive through the world and free roaming, and less on optimizing 3 lap races over and over

great, unfinished game, pretty much nails the sentiment. theres so much potential for updates for more customization, costumes, knockout tour routes, heck give us more enclosed arenas for battle mode

open world mario kart was an ambitious idea. this game isnt lazy at all, but this is NOT the best it can do rn
