I hope I am wrong but I fear this move will only benefit: -Nintendo themselves, since they will be able to save money while retaining their 'true' physical hard line stance while spending less (i.e. Pokopia could be released in a smaller cart) -The very few third parties that already have shown to be willing to do physical releases (Marvelous/Xseed, Cd Projekt Red) -LRG and other niche physical distributors of digital games.
I can see the rest of the third parties staying with game key releases because they are both cheaper, installed games play faster and their big games will only go upwards in size in the upcoming years.
I recently got Hello Kitty Island Adventures for a 8 year old niece and I was sorely dissapointed the game only includes european spanish...she might be able to get trough, but it is just not the same. Perhaps in 7 years like Capcom they will update it :/.
As probably the only crazy enough person to enjoy playing Smash Bros Ultimate in VR (for short periods of time that is) I love this whole idea.
Sure, Nintendo options are of course 'Typical Nintendo' expensive, but in a few months I am sure third parties will release more than one cheap, headset mounted plastic alternative (not VB branded of course) cheaper than even the cardboard nintendo option, as there were many such gadgets released for the Switch 1 compatible with the admittedly few VR labo games.
Thank you good sire for preserving what should not be preserved.
Anyway, about the game, nah. Not interested. The gamecube one was lackluster to me and this new one is no different, the demo was very useful to see that. Is just Metroid for me till the end of the year, and perhaps a heavily discounted eshop sale.
Look at it like this, if a game releases with already announced expensive and unfair upcoming DLC it would make sense to count it as a con, even if it was as of yet just a promise of still unfullifilled bad content.
Same for me, my dock brand is even unknown to me, but the JEM update made it work again.
As I see it, the situation is completely different to the disaster that were the first third party docks on Switch 1 back in 2017-2018. There is not a single case of third party docks bricking a system, the worst it happens is they stop working and even then, in most cases a simple to use update fixes the issue in short time. Seeing some like the one I got cost less than the average double burger with fries, it is a fair trade for the increased portability and commodity. The only danger is that our little gizmo might, just might become useless in 6-12 months but for twelve bucks, I don't see much of an issue.
Same old, same old. There is always this back and forth between people that dislike DF and people that like what they do, which I understand completely. Some dont care about tech, and that is fine. I for one like their line of work, and the number of games I have decided to get for Switch 1 and 2 because of their reviews, by far surpass the number of games I have decided to skip because of their very same reviews.
What I and many others on the other hand find very irrtating is how some whiners completely ignore the nuances of what they do for the sake of their strawman arguments (both in favor or against). Even when one of their reviews state multiple positives in framerate, loading times, particle effects, etc all they see is "OMG they say is dissapointing, so they are saying it sucks!!!"
I bought a 15 dollar one cheapo third party dock two months ago, to be used as a secondary unit and avoid the hassle of disconnecting my main setup every time I take my Switch 2 house to play with my nieces. It did perfectly until I updated the console which blocked Switch 2 compatibility (still worked with Switch 1 though)...for a whole day XD. Then I downloaded a quick and easy to install updat and it is now back at working without issues. VERY pleased with my purchase as of now in terms of price and usefulness.
I think the silver lining is that not a single game are cloud games, unlike Kingdom Hearts trilogy or RE 7-9 on Switch 1, now those I would call fake games.
A Switch 2 edition seems likely then...and a premium 20 dollars at that. I fear that after the initial dozen or so launch window updates Nintendo will stop with the free upgrades and will use Switch 2 editions to pad out first party releases and boast they are releasing a new first larty experience monthly, for a couple of years or more. I sincerely hope I am proven wrong soon.
Always had the impression DQ VII was never really popular in the west because of the design, sure the supposed slowness and extreme longevity of the game made it a divisive experience for many of those who played it...but the design made many people not even bother with playing it to begin with. Even for the relatively cartoonish standards of the franchise, DQ VII has a very super deformed look to it and sits akwardly between the rest of the franchise:
DQ I and II: Funny light hearted designs in the style of DB and Dr. Slump.
DQ III, IV, V, VI, VIII: Buff dudes, angry serious faces, and very fanservice looking girls in the style of DBZ.
DQ IX, X and XI. Lean, slim, tall and handsome looking dudes and girls in the style of DB GT and Super.
Between all that, DQ VII seems like a special weird outlier, a combination of all three styles perhaps. Of course many years have passed since then. Perhaps nowadays the artstyle of DQ VII will be all the rage.
Yep, put me on the skeptic list, I always thought Capcom cared very little if anything about RE0. If anything, my bets would be that they remake 1 and add 0 as a kind of side story or DLC for the main game, kinda like making a single RE origins with an Alpha chapter and a Bravo chapter.
While I find the library of games so far lacking (my most played game in the system is the late gen Switch 1 game The Hundred Line) the machine itself is a fine piece of hardware in my eyes. After all, Nintendo released a 10 dollar "game" that is basically an endless essay about how amazing the console is.
Then for you it is a positive, and for the writer is a negative simple as that.
Say your favorite game gets a sequel...and a sequel...and a sequel...ad infinity. At some point even someone like you would see as a negative if each sequel cost the same or more and the game barely changes at all, no matter how good it is. Perhaps you reach that point at the 10th game, perhaps at the 100th game, but you will reach it sooner or later. For the writer of this review, the third game was that point.
Hyped for this, and my bet is on a distant prequel not a distant sequel. An extra anouncement for a Switch 2 update for Three Houses would be the icing on the cake, but I suppose there is still hope they annouce such a thing in a future game centric direct.
Alywas surprises me how the Dock bricking stories managed to imprint themselves so hard on the Switch userbase. Switch bricking docks were a thing in the first couple of years for the Switch, 2017 and 2018, when most companies ignored or just guessed the electrical requeriments of the system either to save money or just from plain old naivety. But the alarms, angry customers complaints, bad word of mouth and perhaps some legal issues changed the course of those accesories by 2019, and a new generation of mini docks started to proliferate, in all sizes, prices and forms. Basically from the pandemic onward all new Switch 1 third party docks were safe and useful...even if still not as good as the first party ones, as many will stop working after after a few years of intensive use, but none of them would destroy the system itself.
And now, finding the holy grail in a Switch 2 minidock, and even better, a mini dock compatible with both Switch 1 and 2 is a hot topic among many of us who used third party Switch 1 docks extensively...but still I say some caution is completely justified...after all, we are currently living the first couple of years of the Switch 2.
Even after figuring the horrible rubber banding and cheap mechanics of Cruisin Blast, that game still has a place in ny library for that four player split screen mayhem of seeing a race between a Nissan, a ufo, a hammerhead shark and a unicorn. On the other hand, this trailer shows only realistic cars and two player screen only, which instantly makes me doubt a future purchase. If I want to play a multiplayer brainless racing game with real cars I can do with the free to play Asphalt.
Well, the poll seems pretty one sided, but again, the negative vote is concentrated in a single option and the positive vote is divided between many choices in the range from the maybes to definitive yes. More negatives alternatives to split that 60% could be "Wouldn't get it even if it was free" or "They would need to pay me in advance to play that game".
Same reason they drip feed everything else, they know what is hot and what is not, and they stagger releases. Most prominent example would be Fire Emblem, the newest game Engage is already on Nintendo Music and instead the better received soundtracks, including Three Houses, are not, and perhaps will only come in a year...or two...or three.
Ha, the joke's on them, the average gamer doesn't produce offsprings.
Now in all seriousness, I think this is a genius move, I can bet if this things sell well, we will see in a couple of years a doll lineup of Nintendo Princess for the tween demographic.
This might be a problem, depending on how efficent they made the machine sleep mode functions.
Around this parts (south of the USA, north of Mexico) temperatures above 40 Celsius are commonplace in this months. Sure, most of us have the common sense of only playing inside the house and with nice cool AC blasting nearby...but also most of us turn off the AC when we leave the house alone for hours like when going to work. This wouldn't be a big deal if not for the Switch mania of working in sleep mode nonstop to bring you the latest news and updates, not to mention when we ourselves leave the system downloading dozens of games. If someone who just got their brand new system leaves it downloading lots of Switch 1 transferred games, in the heat and with no AC, it could potentially mean problem for the system. I think Nintendo should consider that in their warnings too.
There is this story about how Ted Woolsey changed the name of Tina in Final Fantasy VI into Terra when the game was translated for western audiences. His reason? For some reason he believed Western audiences wouldnt consider the name of Tina as fitting for the character.
The problem many are feeling with this game is something like that. Elliot is not a name that evokes them the main character of an epic story, and adding to that the generic sounding combination of
"The adventures (which you could change adventures for: ddysey/legend/tale/travel/history/journey etc) of protagonist name" and the equally generic subtitle of "The Millenium (again interchangeable with legendary/epic/fantastic/dark/eternal/etc.) Tales (see the "adventures" examples above).
So yeah, while perhaps no first world problem it is mostly a western problem, for Japanese people probably the name written in full English sounds exotic and unique...but for English speaking audiences it sounds generic and lacking exotiquenes.
I like rhythm games, but when the rhythm part is so intrinsically connected with a different genre like strategy, platform or dungeon crawling my brain just malfunctions. That's the reason I was never able to get very far in Crypt of the Necrodancer (without resorting to using the options to remove rhythm from the equation), and when I tried Patapon on the psp I was also stumped after the first few easy levels.
I suppose something like Theatrythm Final Fantasy is my limit, since the rpg elements there are superficial at best.
As most would tell you, delisting a game doesn't remove it from the servers, it just remove it from the storefront. Anyone with an already bought "ticket" can re-download it as many times as they want. The classic example is as always the Wii shop, it was closed years ago, and before that dozens of games were delisted all the time...but as long as you paid for any of them, you can still erase and redownload as many times as you want the game you got almost 20 years ago. One day we will not be able to do that? True, but after almost two decades, it just doesn't sting that much anymore.
Yeah, I think Natsume is making a mistake bringing this two less than stellar "New HM" instead of striking while is hot and making a quick Switch 2 edition of Winds of Anthos, by far their most beloved and interesting post split HM and one they could use to really steal the thunder from Marvelous.
Expecting a different answer is like expecting the big chiefs at Nintendo to tell us "Yeah, we pretty much don't care about Star Fox anymore, deal with it".
-Looks at the bucketloads of Tulis, Rijus, Yunobos and Sidons on display at the closest Best Buy-...yeah, I don't think people need to worry too much about being quick to get one of the latest amiibos, at least on the first few months.
This makes me feel like the response was so cold that they just decided to pack the thing as it is, and call it a day, no personality, no characters, no diverse modes, no local multiplayer, etc. Kinda like with Everybody 1-2 Switch, it might just be a silly idea that got just far enough as to not be cancelled.
"Digital Foundry is like a blabbermouth who ruins a movie by telling you how it ends. Well, I say there are some things we DON'T want to know...Important things!"
Even if a phone camera doesn't work natively, I suppose there is a chance a future app for android or IOS can make it possible in the near future for some recent models with good cameras. After all, if most current phones can be used to duplicate amiibo chips, it shouldn't be too far fetched.
The 10 dollar difference makes sense if the Switch 2 is an upgrade pack, like with Nintendo games, 60 bucks for the base game on Switch (or other consoles), 10 extra to make it use the extra Switch 2 power. Which again would make the Switch 1 release the sensible choice for people wanting a more physical release.
It is indeed a curious phenomenon, games like Darksiders 3 that were infamous for their bad Switch optimization look completely upgraded on Switch 2...and games that were already very stable and well done on Switch 1 barely have any changes on Switch 2, if they even work.
Seems to be like Fortnite situation on Switch, the more updates, bells and whistled the base game gets, the more Switch 1 version keeps losing graphical effects in order to retain the already low peeformace rates it has.
While nice, I hope the next flip grip or similar accessory released for vertical playing is adjustable and able to be used with the original Switch models and the 2.
Those two, Fast Fusion from Shinen and Survival Kids from Konami. Everything else is either multiplat, or exclusive to the Switch family of systems and readily available therefore on the first Switch. The "wheel chair basketball game" is not a launch game.
Missed opportunity. Include the game for free, make an absolute necessity the extra accessories to complete the 100% experience, prey on the average OCD from your userbase= Profit.
A 50/50 split would be expected in most circumstances, like for example as you mention at your country recent elections.
But in a gaming site?, it doesn't matter if it is Nintendo centric, they hire LGTB writers or if they try to hide pretty much any mention of Hogwarts Legacy, the majority of the userbase will still lean to the right.
This is a gaming website...which is a nesting ground for right wingers. Even trying to delude oneself that the core audience from Nintendo website is less conservative than say a PC gaming website or the like would be a fool's dream.
Sounds exactly like having multiple save slots and using them to see all the endings and all the relationship scenarios...like you know, lots of peole do in most non linear RPGs. People reacting like this is some kind of morality issue seem to be overthinking it.

It is indeed a curious phenomenon, games like Darksiders 3 that were infamous for their bad Switch optimization look completely upgraded on Switch 2...and games that were already very stable and well done on Switch 1 barely have any changes on Switch 2, if they even work.
Re: PSA: Splatoon 3 On Switch Has Made Some Cuts To Keep Pace With Switch 2
Seems to be like Fortnite situation on Switch, the more updates, bells and whistled the base game gets, the more Switch 1 version keeps losing graphical effects in order to retain the already low peeformace rates it has.
Re: PSA: Switch 2's Flashy New Kickstand Is Perfect For TATE Mode Play
While nice, I hope the next flip grip or similar accessory released for vertical playing is adjustable and able to be used with the original Switch models and the 2.

@Meehanuk_1987
Those two, Fast Fusion from Shinen and Survival Kids from Konami. Everything else is either multiplat, or exclusive to the Switch family of systems and readily available therefore on the first Switch. The "wheel chair basketball game" is not a launch game.
Re: Want To 100% 'Welcome Tour'? You'll Need To Cough Up For Some Accessories
Missed opportunity. Include the game for free, make an absolute necessity the extra accessories to complete the 100% experience, prey on the average OCD from your userbase= Profit.
Re: PSA: Switch 2 Updates For Multiple First-Party Switch Games Are Now Available
There is also a big update for Hogwarts Legacy, I suppose it has to do with getting it ready for the Switch 2 upgrade option in game.

@ottoecamn

@nessisonett
This is a gaming website...which is a nesting ground for right wingers. Even trying to delude oneself that the core audience from Nintendo website is less conservative than say a PC gaming website or the like would be a fool's dream.

Re: Rune Factory: Guardians Of Azuma Lets You Hop Between Timelines To Date Multiple Characters
Sounds exactly like having multiple save slots and using them to see all the endings and all the relationship scenarios...like you know, lots of peole do in most non linear RPGs. People reacting like this is some kind of morality issue seem to be overthinking it.
