Always curious how the announcement of a game late released to another system signals worse sales for the original Nintendo version. And the announcements of a multiplatform game late released to a Nintendo system...also signals worse sales for the upcoming Nintendo version.
Seems other platform users are better at the waiting game than Nintendo fans XD
On one hand, I think it is silly to go around crying about "by the time the game comes, I will have lost all interest, etc etc" I for one can pride myself on being patient with most videogame products, if it comes, it will come.
And yet...I can't deny I just love some good hype. A good hype machine can embiggen even the most niche of releases. Just from the top of my mind, I can remember Rune Factory Frontier, Arc Rise Fantasia, Trauma Team back on the Wii days, had me revisiting their webpages daily (the first two in complete japanese) just to see a new character, a new pic, a new music sample. And all three of them delivered completely at least to my expectations, some bad localization gaffes aside. Now on the other hand, I did the same with a liitle known stinkbomb called Ohgon no Kizuna...I was hyped, I was mad the game was japanese exclusive, and I was also utterly dissapointed when the game was such a catastrophic dud...and still, I still remember those golden hype days with fondness and nostalgia.
If a game can bring me hype and quality, that is perfect, but even if it ends being the biggest pile of failure in videogame form, if it gave me a good month or more, of pure hype, that is still a source of enjoyment by itself.
Considering everything, I'm surprised with how long this game took to reach the Switch. Being a passion project mostly promoted between Nintendo gamers and all, it is a shame that it missed the gold rush window on the Switch by a year or two.
I think the release will be the same day...after all, he is coming before the month ends, might as well get extra fanfare with the always nice "get it right now" announcement.
I'm also curious about the upcoming mii costumes. Chocobo and Geno seem a given considering the main event, but I hope for another one with a music track, Hollow Knight, Hat Girl or Quote (from Cave Story) would be my top picks.
You are underestimating the fanbase of each particular franchise. Not every FF VII fanboy jumped on board with Smash at the sight of Cloud, if that had been the case, Smash for Wii U/3DS would have sold far more than it did. And yes, not every FF VII fanboy will jump with Sephiroth, but the fact is MANY more will do. I for one know one early PS5 adopter that is salivating at this announcement more than with any upcoming next gen game...except perhaps the still too far remaining parts of FF VII remake.
It is like with Byleth, Fire Emblem is overrepresented, but Byleth was still a hit with many of the people who played Three Houses and they were all onboard getting the character.
In the end, as you say, is all business. As they see it, a bigger more sizeable chunk of the loyal FF VII/Three Houses fanbase is worth more money to them than the entire Crash, Tomb Raider or Waluigi fanbase.
I too thought it would be something about a smaller card with a required download.
But now that I remember the release, it came in a boxed edition with a map, a booklet and a couple of stickers. This light edition might be just that, the same game dlc and all, but without the (admittedly few) physical goodies included in the first release.
People are happy because they will be able to play with Dante which until this news released seemed impossible...and of course, now they can crack jokes about the whole Dante, and Knuckles and Funky Mode.
In the end, it makes sense. Getting the approval from Capcom for the license costs money, but not everyone is interested in Dante. So it seems fair to pass the cost of having it exclusively to the people who care about Dante. Because of that, it makes perfect sense for this to be optional DLC, why should everyone pay the price for having a Capcom license if not everyone care about him?
Well, then the system works. As they say, the trick with the 90% off sale is not just increasing the sales right then, but precisely to put the game on the best seller chart and remain there a few days or even weeks after the sale ends, to scrap as few or as many sales as they can at full price.
Right now, in my eshop games like Ultimate Chicken Horse, Mark of the Ninja Remastered, Bad North and the Deer God are in the top 30, and they are all full price, but they also had steep discounts in the recent days. In a couple of weeks Moto Rush GT, Super Bit Blaster XL, Seeders and Toki Tori will be in the same position.
Yep, having the likes of Apex of the World, Battle Hymn of the Soul, Bowser Castle and many more in Final Destination makes the whole crossover thing shine, I do enjoy this new option.
I suppose after seeing Donkey Long Tropical Freeze, and many other examples from different companies, they thought it was a requirement to sell games with an extra 10 bucks on the price.
@MattAllsopp
In all fairness, I have Asphalt and liked it a lot, but the game while it might look good enough it doesn't run well at all, it might look nice, but the framerate tanks all the time, this game seems MUCH better in performance.
Anyway, my issue with this game is the limited multiplayer. Going by the eshop listing Burnout only has online multiplayer and not split screen. That is a big NO in my book right now. How ironic that a free to play game like Asphalt includes it but not this. Such a shame.
Sorry Pal, but your scale is still bonkers. You are giving three whole points for the great achievement of not being able to get past the title screen (1/10) to not being able to play the game past the first stage because doing the main action required to progress causes a glitch (4/10). Almost a third of the whole
0-100 scale is awarded for improving a completely broken useless game into a completely useless broken game.
As I see it, if a game cant be played to the very end, then it doesn't deserve a score at all, if the game can be cleared from start to finish then we can grade it and use the whole scale from 0-100.
You people need to correct the comma between jet and black in question 6: "Which Nintendo console was available in Indigo, Jet, Black and Spice colour variants (among others)?"
Jet and black were the same color in the GameCube ("jet black" was it called in all official papers) and thanks to the funtastique series the N64 also was released in orange, black, gray, purple, green, etc. So with that and the whole "among others" is somewhat confusing as it is right now.
I got and liked New Leaf, but not going to get New Horizons. Too much to play right now. Played NL daily for around three months, then weekly for around two years, then monthly until I just stopped in 2018.
At any rate, I think this game could very well use some companion mobile app. Log each day in order to make a "mini visit" to greet your neighbors and clean the town, but you can only "really" play, progress, terraform, fish, etc with the Switch game. This way, people obsessed with the game could still log with their cellphones in order to avoid the dreaded syndrome of "the longer I don't play the less likely that's I play again".
The Sonic movie put some heavy pressure on this goons. It would be terribly humiliating for Nintedo if Sonic surpass Mario in ticket revenue and/or critical reception.
I get your point, but the game have everything to do with it. The projected sales will dictate the cartridge expense.
The Witcher3 original release on current gen consoles was a sales success, it was recent (no old gen version to begin with) and was still selling well even by the time the Switch edition appeared, and what is more, the Netflix series (which was a hit) was just around the corner. The expected sales were high, and CD Project Red went with it. But speaking of the same company, where is the physical version of Thronebreaker Witcher Tales? Is a small spinoff, if the expensive cart was such a myth, they surely would release said game at retail...but instead, they obviously believe the projected sales are not worthy of that.
It's the Same with Nintendo, Capcom or 2K...if they bring decade old ports that pretty much anyone interested can play on half a dozen of systems, the sales projected are far lower than the ones with the Witcher. Nintendo thought the same with Bayonetta, and so and so.
I.E., you can see how a game like BioShock trilogy is already expected to sell more copies than either Borderlands or Xcom, because it gets the 16 GB card, instead of the smaller 8 one. If the games themselves were not the deciding factora, the three packages would get a 8 GB card.
Nintendo Is not free of guilt either. My physical copy of Bayonetta 1 + 2 required a sizeable download to enjoy "half" of that package. The decision on this matters is game dependant, not company dependant.
Definitely Min Min, either alone or with Ribbon Girl/Ninjara as alts. Spring Man is already in the game as Assist and Ribbon Girl Mii costume reduces her chances of being the main face of the Challenger. Twintelle is popular, but her design would make difficult to include the other Arms fighters as character skins. As for the other characters, none seems popular enough.
Everything could be or not be better than it is, there is never a "should be better".
But if you are insistent in looking for numbers, what is considered top of the line is common games is basically the combination of two elements: native resolution (720p for switch portable, 1080p for Switch docked/ps4/xbone and 4K for ps4pro/xbonex) and performance of 60 fps. But again, that would be an oversimplification of their job, there are many things that cannot be so easily quantified, like post effects, antialiasing, draw distance, loading times, input latency, texture and audio quality, and a very long etc. So no, there is no "gold standard" they seek, there will never be a "perfect" scenario...but many fantastic, incredible and great scenarios like the one in this video, games that do miracles with limited hardware, or fantastic showcases with the most advanced and recent hardware, or examples of incredible feats in the past with old hardware.
They analize, and show the ups and downs. There is no perfect for them and there shouldn't be. Better res produces worse performance, better performance produces worse resolution, improved AA creates less sharpness, improved sharpness means less AA and so and so.
Digital Foundry is not a resource to say "this graphics suck" or "this graphics are the best". It is a resource to analyze all the little details, all the compromises, all the exchanges, etc.
Here is the best example, ACNH looks fantastic, the game looks great, and they say so at every chance in the video. But some people seem miffed because they are mentioning (as they should since it is what the do) that the framerate is 30.
Got a little impulsive, but I was glad to get a few discounts in the season: -FE Three Houses. -Ring Fit Adventure. -A Hat in Time. -Surge Wireless Controller. -Hyper Light Drifter (eShop). -Sonic Mania (eShop).
Later than sooner, but I feel I finally reached the dreaded "paywall"...right now I cant really make more progress in the career mode without better cars, and said cars need a very high amount of blueprints that I can't get right now in a consistent basis and regular basis.
BUT, reaching that point I still got more than 30 hours of pure fun racing, with 30% of career progression, +15 cars, and I can still regularly play the offline challenge mode and the split screen multiplayer. A ton of fantastic value for the amount of money that I spend, which was nothing at all.
In short, a terrific racer that can easily sit on your Switch to play in single and multiplayer at any time for Free...given that you are ready to:
a) Never reach 100% completion.
b) Play online for many hours in order to get a sizeable and diverse roster of cars.
Even without new modes, I can only hope we get some nice nifty upgrades:
-My music: Being an to use your playlist in the game, any place you want. Being able to mix and match music (Mario songs in Yoshi's Island, more songs in boxing ring, etc).
-Tournaments: Being able to set "doubles" tournaments at the very least, with the obvious possibility of going all around with bigger team or handicap tournaments, being able to set specific stages and music for each bracket (regular stages for the first rounds, final destination in the final, etc).
-Squad strike: Play with more than two players simultaneously.
And more little details that could make for an ever better product like more VR stages and features (hey, I like it), being able to completely arrange your character selection screen, more features for the stage builder, etc.
45 minutes wouldn't be enough for Terry and all that.
Finding many people with a Nintendo Switch might not be that out of touch with reality in a big airport...but, finding that many switch systems WITH copies of Mario and Sonic at The Olympics is just too far fetched. If only single cartridge multiplayer was still a thing with Nintendo portables.
Many people seem to think the game came this late just because of choice.
This game was flat out the FIRST confirmed game for the Switch (hell, it was named the NX back then), Square needed to work for more than three years just in the porting process to get this fine results. The game is a superb conversion not in spite of the delay but actually thanks to it, the time twas needed to reduce the polygonal models and textures little by little, bit by bit in order to get the best size reduction, the best performance and the best picture quality is a grueling slow process. Quicker ports just reduce everything once and never bother in the long tedious process of nin-maxing every feature to show the better possible results available with the system limitations.
Other companies trying to get this results with their ports might as well release those titles for Nintendo's next console with the time it takes.
Truly enjoying the game, even with the Witcher 3 and other games I'm still going back to this, not a single cent spend and already played around 10 hours.
And the best part, it has a four player split screen mode that its completely playable offline.
Something I miss from the GBA and specially DS days is download local multiplayer. That is, being able to play a (simplified) multiplayer bout with multiple systems having a single copy of the game...moreso because there are still Switch games with online/wireless modes but no single system split screen multiplayer.
I have been able to play wireless on the Switch with a couple of very popular games like Smash and Mario Kart, but I would like to be able to share some of the fun with games like Saints Row the Third or to be able to play with my cousin who has Splatoon 2. Or even in Mario Kart, to be able to play 8 player races you need at least 4 switches (hard but doable with my circle of pals) and 4 copies of the game (no luck so far). To be able to link systems with a single copy of the game like in many GBA and DS games even if we all raced with shy guys would be a blast.
Probably they also reduced a point for the oldness, kinda like with MK8DX score, they were not able to give it a perfect score because at the end of the day, it is still a four year old experience that you can get cheaper in other platforms.
At any rate, review sounds promising, I want to get this game as soon as I see it in stores.
It comes with split screen multiplayer, up to four players, fully playable offline, that you need to unlock by playing the career mode for an hour, give or take. You can't get the split screen sooner, not even by paying real money.
The multiplayer seems to have all the tracks available from the start which is nice, but you car selection is limited to what you get in the game, after around 4 hours of play I have 5 cars available. You can choose different colors at least in the to add more variety to the proceedings. Framerate seems to be around 30 for the multiplayer.
I wanted to read more about the split screen multiplayer and the rest of the modes aside from the campaign. At any rate, the game comes tomorrow so I guess I will see for myself una few hours.
Being more capable than PS3 and 360, and less capable than PS4 and One, the ports from the former consoles come perfectly or even better, and the ports from the latter consoles come diminished and reduced. No wonder which is the better fit, (from a pure technical standpoint that is). You have to remember that porting something Will always be harder on the system specs than making something from the groundup. At its best, a system can technically port games that are lesser than what it can do when companies work with the system in mind from the start. So even if Vanilla Switch games are clearly above past gen systems, ports by default will never be able to reach something like that.
But is not at all bad, very few Switch games can claim to look better than the best the PS3 and 360 could do at their finest (i.e. God Of War 3). Perfect ports of many past gen games can make very good Switch games like this review proves.
Also, I find funny how the saying "the original is almost a decade old by now" is losing its magnitude when the Switch is involved. The peak of the past gen was precisely around a decade ago, and many PS3 and 360 games would be (and are, considering how many of them keep re releasing) fantastic additions on the Switch.
I sure hope they still do their best to improve the technology on the controllers to begin with.
This program is relying on the fact that most players affected will not go through the hassle of sending their controllers since (particularly in LatAm) the transportation fees and the risks of losing and miscarriage are bigger than the hassle of buying two new sticks from 5 bucks each and replacing them yourself.
You have to consider it is gamble. To release the games you so want "Truly excellent" requires a lot of resources, and requires a lot of sales in order to be proffitable. To include overly sexualized content in a game like that would be risky, because a lot of close minded people would reject the game to begin with and the sales would suffer. Because of that, yo receive decent and average games at best. Which I would say the first SK game is definitely in that camp, a solid 8/10 IMO thanks to the gameplay and story...not so much the sequel which I also got, far better graphics and sexiness, lost points in the narrative and the gameplay.
And for that matter, ever heard of the DOA fighting series (not the beach themed spinoffs)? those are quite fine fighting games with a lots of the killer bodies you seem to want to see.
Not interested in the increase, but a nice feature for new users.
What I think would have killed is that instead of releasing the Lite, they released this upgrade in two SKUs, this regular one with dock, HDMI cable and grip, and a slightly cheaper alternative with just the joy cons and charger.
This way, portable only gamers would get more battery life, cheaper price and the option to get a dock later if they so wish at the cost of the system still being as big and cumbersome as always. And current owners would be more tempted to get a cheaper second switch without another dock for the better battery life, to replace their screen, get a second pair of hoy cons and perhaps wireless multiplayer.
Man, both sides of this argument have some very irrational representatives in this thread, good thing a few reasonable people still try to put some order. It is unfortunate that some people blatantly polarize the issue at hand.
As for the game, I would be far more interested in knowing if the game can be rotated instead of knowing how much "sexy time" minigames are there.
And yet, if they said the sequels are already in development and ready to come no matter the sales (which some big companies have done in the past, like EA for example), reactions would be: "LOL they sure are full of themselves, already doing sequels when they don't know if the first one will sell" "Why should I buy the first one if the sequels are going to have more features anyway?".
As someone said, we live in the age of the outrage.
A big roadblock is that nowadays in many states of the U.S.A. it is basically illegal to institutionalize an adult individual against their will if they haven't committed a crime, despite the state of mind they might be.
Ironically less developed countries have far more control on this things because the health and civic authorities can and will force treatments and will detain individuals with a serious depression.
Now that's some weird logic and self fulfilling retroactive thinking. Both Xenoblade and Splatoon received sequels indeed ...but only after the generation they made their debut. By that logic, you can't say if Arms can or can't measure with them until the next Nintendo system comes and goes and the franchise makes a new appearance or not.
And even though I, like many others, olympically ignored this game and plan to keep doing so, 2 millions sales is nothing to sneeze at, so I'd say the chances for a sequel are fairly good.

Re: No, Tomorrow's Smash Ultimate Terry Bogard Livestream Won't Reveal Any New Fighters
Re: The Outer Worlds Won't Be Released On Switch Until Next Year
Too much to play right now, so I can wait.
Re: New Trailer For Mario & Sonic At The Olympic Games Turns Delayed Flights Into A Win
Finding many people with a Nintendo Switch might not be that out of touch with reality in a big airport...but, finding that many switch systems WITH copies of Mario and Sonic at The Olympics is just too far fetched. If only single cartridge multiplayer was still a thing with Nintendo portables.
Re: Video: Digital Foundry Looks At Dragon Quest XI S, A "Remarkably Impressive" Switch Conversion

@holygeez03
Because then people start whining about every review being 8 or 9...also, really crappy games reviews sometimes make for entertaining reads.
Re: Free-To-Start Switch Racer Asphalt 9: Legends Downloaded One Million Times In First Week
Truly enjoying the game, even with the Witcher 3 and other games I'm still going back to this, not a single cent spend and already played around 10 hours.
And the best part, it has a four player split screen mode that its completely playable offline.
Re: Feature: How Switch Brings Back Game Boy Multiplayer Memories
Re: Review: The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Complete Edition - An Incredible Action-RPG Stands Strong On Switch
@gamer89
Re: Review: Asphalt 9: Legends - Likeable Burnout-Style Racing Action, If You Play The Right Way
A couple of hours into the game.
You
can choose different colors at least in the to add more variety to the proceedings.
Framerate seems to be around 30 for the multiplayer.
Re: Review: Asphalt 9: Legends - Likeable Burnout-Style Racing Action, If You Play The Right Way
I wanted to read more about the split screen multiplayer and the rest of the modes aside from the campaign. At any rate, the game comes tomorrow so I guess I will see for myself una few hours.
Re: Random: One Metroid Fan Has Fixed Other M For All Time
Liked the story, graphics and some gameplay elements of Other M.
Disliked the audio, the setting (pure space station, yuck) and some gameplay elements.
So yep, divisive I would say. Still a fantastic game all around, just not quite up to the best the franchise has done.
Re: Review: Sniper Elite 3 Ultimate Edition - Gratuitous Gore And Dumb AI Can't Ruin This Likeable Shooter
@JAPBOO
Re: Video: Check Out Mortal Kombat 11's The Terminator In Action
I would like to see a Fatality done on him to see all those metallic bits rolling around, will make for a nice change of scenery.
Re: Review: Amnesia: Collection - A Masterclass In Horror That Has Aged Better Than You'd Think
Looks interesting, might give it a try.
Re: Video: Bee Sure You Point Your Compound Eyes At This Co-Op Bee Simulator Trailer
That was easily one of five or ten best episodes ever.
Now, as for the game, I hope your playable bee can bit bottoms too.
Re: Free Joy-Con Drift Repairs Extended To Latin America
I sure hope they still do their best to improve the technology on the controllers to begin with.
This program is relying on the fact that most players affected will not go through the hassle of sending their controllers since (particularly in LatAm) the transportation fees and the risks of losing and miscarriage are bigger than the hassle of buying two new sticks from 5 bucks each and replacing them yourself.
Re: Review: Lust For Darkness - A Clumsy Trip Through A Depraved Hellscape That's As Sexy As It Sounds
@commentlife
Re: New Standard Nintendo Switch Revision Offers Significantly Improved Battery Life
Not interested in the increase, but a nice feature for new users.
Re: Review: Senran Kagura: Peach Ball - A Shiny Casing Full Of Used Pinball Machine Parts
Re: Pokémon Masters Launches Summer 2019, Core Gameplay Explained
Look at that, Lucario can still mega evolve, I suppose most of the other mega forms are retained then.
Re: PlatinumGames' Astral Chain To Be The First Of A Trilogy, Depending On Its Success
Re: Police Confirm That YouTuber Desmond "Etika" Amofah Has Died
@Amnesiot
Re: Feature: It's Time To Lay Down Your ARMS
@JR150

Nintendo is sitting on a gold mine with this things. After hot wheels, the next step is joininh a doll company for a lineup of "Nintendo Princesses"
