Re: Review: NBA 2K18 (Switch)

Yomerodes

The problem indeed is that the game quality is abover average. Therefore the reviewer feels the need to wait.

Take for example an excellent game like Breath of The Wild or perhaps the upcoming Mario Oddissey. Suppose for a moment that as amazing as they were, came with some strong heavy bugs, particularly one that consistently erases your whole progress but thankfully in today times, easily fixable with an update...and yes, Nintendo big brands are no stranger to those kind of bugs , Skyward Sword, Majora's Mask 3D and Pokemon to name a few had both in the past mild examples of file erasing bugs that needed correction with updates.

If that had been the case, you can trust me, you would have waited too...unless of course you had either a vendetta against the developer, or actually thought the Zelda or Mario were horrible games to begin with.

Re: Soapbox: Playing Super Mario Sunshine Today Painfully Illustrates Nintendo's 3D Evolution

Yomerodes

I did not see any problem with the controls bak then...and the camera while horrible, was above the standard for the time I think.

But yeah, I agree with many...the game is just not that kind of AWESOME Mario experience. The small numbers of levels (7 full featured levels! less than half the number of regular levels seen in Mario 64), the repetitive nature of the tropical setting (good bye to Ice World, Sky World, Desert World, and even the chance for a regular lava world was wasted with Corona Mountain), average bosses and a horribly unrewarding final boss (Sure, most Mario final bosses are easy, but at least most try to put a facade of epicness), limited powerups (just two very situational fludd extra modes, and of course, Yoshis made of soap), and last but not least, the horrible padding from the blue coins and repetitive missions.

I see the Mario 3D evolution as a circle. Back when Sunshine was released, I believe the most praised moments wer the fludd less levels ("Mario back to the his roots" "Classic platform action" "Just get to the finish, no fluff"). I agreed, and because of that, I preferred both Galaxy games and even Mario 3D Land. We shall see if Oddisey truly is able to get the open 3D platformer style right, because while most seem to beg for it to come back, I don't miss it on the least.

Re: Secret Of Mana Is Getting A 3D Remake, But Guess What Console It's Not Coming To

Yomerodes

Actually, I kinda see where Square Enix is going with this. Think about it. If the player really wants to have this game on the big screen and on the go, right now it seems they will need to get the game twice. Twice the sale, twice the profit.

On the other hand, releasing it on Switch, some players would get both experiences, handeld and home for the price of one.

Re: First Impressions: A Switch Surprise - Cutting Snipperclips Down to Size

Yomerodes

Like it or not, the first party brand is a saving grace for games like this. Picture for a moment if this game (or say, ARMS) were being promoted by a big third party like Ubi Soft or Capcom as their respective Switch exclusives...at best they would get som indifference and expectation, but most likely they would be a prime target of complains about how the games would surely bomb because they are not AAA material.

Re: The Nintendo 3DS Has Now Sold More Units In Japan Than The PlayStation 2

Yomerodes

3DS have sold more than a third of their entire numbers in the smallest of the three big markets (Americas, Euro and Japan). That's both good and bad from different perspectives.

Regional differences are always interesting to see...
For example, did you knew that the "lame duck, third party shunned" N64 sold basically the same numbers as the "super popular, third party darling" SNES...IN the Americas? NOA was able to hold most of the SNES market...sure, the system was crushed by the PSone in sales, but at least NOA gave a good fight.

Or how the first Xbox sold like a few dozen systems in Japan...and still managed to sell more systems globally than the Gamecube.

Re: Review: Zero Time Dilemma (3DS)

Yomerodes

Liked the game, enjoyed the ride, LOVED the trilogy as a whole... but in the end this one leaves a bittersweet feeling in my gut, I want to believe a rushed production and lack of budget limited the final showing, with a little too many details being dropped from the ending.

Curiously enough, just this very week, another dearly franchise for me just ended: the manga Bleach, and I could use the same words to describe my last feelings about it.

Re: Editorial: Let's Make 2016 a Year of Nintendo Optimism

Yomerodes

3DS 2016 is looking sweet, so I can't disagree.

But I seriously wonder how the Wii U only users can try to muster optimism right now...even in the kickstarter front, they should know that any Kickstarter this year is a lost cause, either the projects ignore the Wii U, or they promise a port, and release it far too late when everybody else has already jumped into the new machine.

Re: Feature: The Biggest 3DS Games of 2016

Yomerodes

Zero Time Dilemma by far.

Second place would be a tie between Shin Megami Tensei IV Final and Fire Emblem Fates.

2016 is looking great, after all, my top 3 favorite games in 3DS are Virtue's Last Reward, Shin Megami Tensei IV and Fire EMblem Awakening, and all three of them are getting sequels.

Re: Feature: Time to Vote for Your Nintendo Life Game of the Year Awards 2015

Yomerodes

@SakuraHaruka

Agree. Had to use the 'other' slot to give my GOTY vote to Project Mirai.

It also made me think how exactly were the 'slotted' 20 entries in the overall GOTY category chosen, because it was obviously not according to Nintendolife opinnion about them. Case in point, Mario Party 10 and Ironfll Invasion (both were given a good score of 7/10 here in this very site) were included instead of other games that got 8 or 9/10 from this site. Were they chosen because of sales?

Re: Code Of Princess And Yumi's Odd Odyssey Studio Agatsuma Is No More

Yomerodes

To the people worried about the sales, and whatsoever, you need to remember that this is about the company that published both games in Japan.
In America, Code of Princess was published by Atlus (so keep expecting a sale every two weeks), and Yumi by Natsume (expect a sale once a year).

ANd that is also the reason why any copy we might have gotten means squat for this piece of news. The copies sold in a certain region brings money to the publisher of that region, As far as Agatsuma was concerned only the sales in Japan mattered.

Re: Nintendo Download: 3rd December (North America)

Yomerodes

While I have Trauma Team for Wii since it was released 5 years ago, I would still download that digital release if I had a Wii U, the game is that good. Even disregarding the surgery and medical themes, there is a whole 'Phoenix Wright' style gameplay mode that takes hours to finish with more than 5 cases.

As for now, Pokemon Picross right now, and tomorrow Ninja Battle Heroes...I have waited a sale for that one since it was released, got a great review here and a very nice artstyle.

Re: Story of Seasons Hits Europe on 8th January, Australia the Next Day

Yomerodes

Evil twin hahaha, never heard that one about this two.

I was wondering about the name issue for Europe. As far as I knew, Natsume was a non entity in that region, and the Harvest Moon franchise have been published there by many companies using the HM brand since ever. In short, they most likely can legally use the Harvest Moon name... but will they?

Re: Hands On: Getting Pinned Down By Nintendo Badge Arcade

Yomerodes

Some 20+ badges, most of them useless. Haven't spend a cent for them of course.

You see, my problem with the badges is that I want them for my folders and that is...so I got a couple of Game boys for my GB folders, an 8 bit Mario for my NES folder, a Mario coin for my Free to play folder, etc.
ANd that's it. I have no need for Splatoon badges, or most Animal Crossing badges, or most random enemies from the Mario franchise. I want icons to represent my folders, and I can wait until something pops up them. Frankly, when I got the initial 5 free plays I basically wasted most of them because there were simply no badges useful for my folders.

Re: Capcom "Will Consider The Possibility" Of Supporting Nintendo NX

Yomerodes

@Ventilator
I find strange how something like this could have started in the Dreamcast, when Capcom was a big (if not the biggest) supporter of that console. The demise of the DC could be blamed to many parties, EA being one of them, but Capcom? definitely not.

@FeedingTheWheel
Kinu Nishimura, long standing Capcom colaborator (at least as far as the Capcom vs SNK series back in the early 2000s). Also credited with the design for the Zero Escape series (DS, 3DS and Vita), and Code of Princess (3DS).

Re: Feature: A Pokémon Retrospective: Generation 3 - 2002 to 2006

Yomerodes

I always find hilarious how Nintendo decided at the third generation to partition the utilities of the Pokemon Stadium games into three separate pieces of software:
-3D Battles went to Colloseum and XD, with an added dash of storyline.
-Minigames went to Pokemon Channel, with an added dash of Hey you Pikachu.
-Storage and playing on the TV went to Pokemon Box.

It was as if someone at Nintendo/The Pokemon Company suddenly saw Pokemon Stadium and though "Hey guys, we are giving players way too much content with this cartridges, I'm sure we could get two or three games out of this one"

Re: Review: Dragon Ball Z: Extreme Butoden (3DS)

Yomerodes

@BulbasaurusRex

Perhaps they are talking about a gap in time. Just look at it, all the fighting games that you mentioned were released around the system first year at 2011-2012...and then nothing until Smash and now this. It is curious how developers where so quick to jump into the 3DS bandwagon with fighting games, and later abandoned the genre altogether in a flash.

Re: Review: SENRAN KAGURA 2: Deep Crimson (3DS)

Yomerodes

Got this after greatly enjoying the first one.

I do will say that (a couple of hours into the game) the gameplay just doesn't feel as tight and addictive as the first one. The camera and the locking mechanic just don't click as nicely as the left/right restriction of the first game for me. The full 3D movement sure is a nice change of pace and no doubt was a big jump for the developers, but it feels more like a change for change sake, instead using the mechanics that worked in Burst and improving them. Having said that, the improvements in graphics, options, interface and game modes are massive and very well done.

In the end putting in balance the good and not so good changes of this sequel, I would say this game is a fitting companion to the first Senran Kagura instead of an all superior replacement.

Re: Review: SENRAN KAGURA 2: Deep Crimson (3DS)

Yomerodes

From the gameplay videos I sorta expect this one to be somewhat more repetitive than the first.

Yet, since I liked Burst quite a lot (both story and gameplay wise) I'm confident on getting this. Any luck and I actually find the gameplay more addicting than the first, on the contrary if the game does play worse it surely can't be that big of a difference going by the review.

Re: FAST Racing NEO Developer Shin’en Multimedia Would Love To Stick With Nintendo Hardware In The Future

Yomerodes

@Jimtaro

I think you are just looking too much into it. The truth is, most of the time bad games get bad sequels, bad books get bad sequels, bad movies get bad sequels and viceversa good things get good sequels.

If something is bad, and it by fair reasons sells bad, why would you or anyone else want anything with a sequel to it? Either the idea or the team sucks so most likely a sequel would suck. ERGO, you let it rot and don't pester the team asking for a sequel.

Bad game + bad sales: Sequel is not made and it shouldn't be "demanded" from a logical standpoint. Who would want more bad games?
Bad game + good sales: A sequel is made, most likely just as bad. This is the basis for every developer to believe that any game no matter how bad or lazy can justify a sequel given enough sales.
Good product + bad sales: The sequel is not made, there is some logical demand for it, but the developer has even more logical reasons to avoid a sequel.
Good product + good sales: Everyone is happy.

Of course there are many variables (kick starter, IP acquisitions, deaths and firings inside a company, publishing deals) but in the end, sales are sequels, as it should be.

Re: Nintendo Is Licensing Hudson Soft IP From Konami

Yomerodes

I always find weirdly naive the beliefe of many fans that Nintendo could purchase random third party "dead" IPs, and even better, start develop truckloads of games with those properties.

That's when I remember that the most recent original F-Zero game is older than the most recent original Bomberman, Silent Hill, Goemon, Castlevania, Megaman, B&K, etc.

Re: Interview: Senran Kagura Producer Kenichirō Takaki Bares All

Yomerodes

As I see it, the developer has guts. He is using a concept that is obviously alienating a lot of gamers, but tries to make the a good enough game of it, and shut up the people that can't believe tha a game with a premise so dsipleasing (to them) could still be good.

Say you create a game in which MOST characters are either:
-Morbidly Obese humans.
-Oversexed underage girls
-Bigoted racists
-Blatant homosexual estereotypes
-Long etc
And yet, the quality would still be completely independent from those factors.

Sure, many people will be turned off for morality or aesthetic reasons. But that only speaks in favor to the game...as in, even against the odds, the game still manages to shine and be good.

Re: New Skylanders SuperChargers Trailer Plays Up Bowser and Donkey Kong as IP's First Ever Guest Stars

Yomerodes

What a shame, Nintendo missed a golden chance to troll everyone with this production.

E3 Digital Event
Footage is shown of Donkey Kong walking in the 3D worlds throwing barrels at everything "OMG A 3D DONKEY KONG PLATFORMER, FINALLY, THANK YOU NINTENDO!"

Then the footage shows Bowser and DK walking alongside in this 3D Worlds sreading chaos "OMG AND BOWSER IS IN THE GAME TOO WITH CO-OP PLAY!...wait a sec...could this be...the long awaited toys to life adventure game with amiibo?"

Then the video shows the new figures of DK and Bowser with an amiibo logo on the screen "OMG IT IS! AN ADVENTURE GAME WITH AMIIBO, TAKE ALL MY MONEY NINTENDO!"

And finally, the Skylanders SuperChargers logo appears on screen alongside the Activision brand "WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT?"

Iwata: (laughs)

Re: Review: Flying Warriors (Wii U eShop / NES)

Yomerodes

Always knew that Flying Dragon on the N64 was part of a bigger series, but this is the first time I see an actual game from it. FD was a decent enough figthing game on the N64, too bad Nintendo was never able to emulate Controller Pack support on the virtual console.

Re: Harvest Moon: Seeds of Memories Heading to Wii U This Winter

Yomerodes

@Donjwolf

It goes both ways. The reception for the recent Marvelous games is improving, and Story of Seasons in particular attained the best overall reviews HM has received in a long time (78 at metacritic right now, against 63 from ToTT and 74 from ANB). Fan reception has been equally positive, particularly with the people that hated the slower pace of the other recent games (on the other hand, the people that loved ToTT and ANB were not that happy with SoS new fast and streamlined approach to farming).

And yet, the fact that you are downright dismissing EVERY present and future game from the franchise as long as it is made by Marvelous, and at the same time you are accusing people of not even giving a chance to Lost Valley makes your advice seem contradictory if not downright hypocrite.

And speaking of giving a chance, a lot, if not most of the people that hate The Lost Valley do so because they played the game, and were massively dissapointed by it (the ones that did not played it on the other hand, mostly ignore it). And since that is the only precedent we all have as far as farming games developed by Natsume, they have fair reasons to be visibly dissapointed that this game is again made by them. . And if they give a chance to the "true Harvest Moon" despite of some horrible recent offerings, is because they know the Marvelous team still has what it takes to create the ocassional decent enough farming game.

Re: Capcom Is Bringing The Nintendo Exclusive Resident Evil Zero To Every Modern Gaming System But The Wii U

Yomerodes

It is Resident Evil 0...it remained exclusive for more than a decade, was released in two consecutive Nintendo platforms, and do you know anyone who cherished that particular game as crowning example of the franchise or the gamecube? Not me, and probably not you.

No one cared for this game, nor the players and certainly not Capcom, Rebbeca biggest achievement in the long hiatus was to be included on some Mercenearies mini-games, with the same look of always, we don't even know if she is dead or alive after the Racoon City incident. And bad boy Billy Cohen fared even worse.

Next time you will tell me that P.N.03 was a "cherished" Nintendo exclusive and people should be sad if a potential HD remake comes to every home console save Wii U.

Re: Wii U Stretch Goal Seemingly Teased for Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night

Yomerodes

@ikki5

So, the PS4, XBO, PC guys (that supposedly don't love Castlevania as much as Nintendo fans, or so I have read in many sites) were able to give 2 millions and a half so far in a couple of weeks.

But the Wii U guys (that supposdly love Castlevania far more than anyone else because the series have more games on Nintendo systems) will not able to gather half a million in 20 days?

Re: Feature: The Full Story Behind Star Fox 2, Nintendo's Most Famous Cancellation

Yomerodes

Nice to see developers that are not afraid to praise Miyamoto and Nintendo, while at the same time praising Sony and the Playstation family of systems. It seems this days too many developers are afraid of hurting either side of the fandumb and try to overly praise one of the two, or neither of them... when they are by definition, a third party, and hold no loyalty to them.

@Yorumi
I think it makes perfect sense. Check the early 2D games for Saturn or PSX like Clockwork Knight, or the early RPG for both consoles...sure, they seem nice, but not that super duper improved compared with your regular still shot from the DKC trilogy or Super Mario RPG. In the realm 2D, while the 32 bit systems were obviously more powerful, the difference was not as notable to the average gamer (and particularly not in still shots, which were the main form of circulation in those days, it was all about the magazine articles and ads), and Nintendo could slip the idea that the new fancy systems were not that better than the SNES. On the contrary, a still shot of any polygonal SNES game (Star Fox, Vortex, Stunt Race FX, even the last gen SF2 prototype) was noticeable inferior to most still shots for any polygonal game on the new systems (to use the most famous example, Ridge Racer).
