Re: Mini Review: Handy Hockey (Switch 2) - Mouse Mode Multiplayer That Does Exactly What It Says On The Tin

Thomystic

@BaldB3lper78 I'm thinking that it could make Nintendo the console of choice for FPS fans for the first time since 2001.

Or it could tap into the blue ocean of PC gamers who never considered a console before. But I suppose the same blue ocean prediction could have been made for the Wii U gamepad and mobile phone touch screen users. Nintendo just needs to sell officially licensed C-shaped end table / lap desk things to make couches more mouse friendly. 😆

Re: UFO 50 Gets A Surprise Shadow Drop On Switch Today

@AG_Awesome NF Magazine (formerly Nintendo Force until they got C&D'ed) announced that their next issue will have individual reviews on all 50. It comes out in 2 months, so there's time to get on their Patreon. I don't know what the minimum subscription period is. But at least you're in the US which might be all they ship to. (They also give PDF versions.)

Re: Random: Donkey Kong Bananza's Idle Animations Are Outrageously Cute

Thomystic

As if sublayer 1400 wasn't already my favorite.

Looygi Bros. on YouTube is also great for little charming minutiae. They could have paid tribute to Kit and Krysta by calling it Nintendo Minutiae. 😆 But then been C&D'ed

@datamonkey No, in fact the idle animations for Diddy and Dixie in DKB match those from DKC2 (1995).

Re: Opinion: We Need To Talk About X Games

Thomystic

I've waited for this article, so thank you.

I think the rule is if you're saying it verbally to a dev from that game, say eks or times to make them mad so they stop doing this nonsense. Imagine Borat pretending to be a games journalist.

We also have the option for "h" or "z" from Spanish. e.g. "Drag zzz Drive"

It seems to me the recent trend kicked off in earnest with Project X Zone, but that was presumably an eks.

I remember when Meta Man X came out, I thought it was 10 and that they were counting the Game Boy games, too, but that would have made it 11. I was thoroughly confused.

Re: Best Nintendo Switch 2 Third-Party TV Docks

Thomystic

What in the world are these names? They are exactly the kind of unpronounceable names on Amazon that serve as red flags for companies that use stolen IP, like the Steve Buscemi high schooler meme but for companies. They make Amazon borderline unusable sometimes and lie, listing their country of origin as somewhere other than China.

So I appreciate NL taking the risk and trying them out for us, cuz Nintendo's price for the S2 dock is somehow even crazier than their price for the first one.

Re: Pac-Man World 2: Re-Pac Is A Big Glow-Up On Switch & Switch 2

Thomystic

@HammerKirby @IronMan30
At my Walmart, the shelf the games are in has a bottom lip that extends just far enough to not be able to see the various download required or key card warnings at the bottom. They had their infrastructure before Switch 2, so it's not deliberate. Thus any assistance to make sure buyers are informed is welcome, and that's what sites like this are all about.

Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl - Super Adventure Island (SNES)

Thomystic

I prefer the cartoony style of the Euro and Japanese ones, but the Japanese one is too busy. I picked Euro despite the wordmark being the most generic ever. The NA one puting "island" in leaves isn't super creative or aesthetic, but at least it's something.

Re: Review: UFO 50 (Switch) - A Wondrous Smorgasbord Of Retro Delights

Thomystic

Not that this game isn't enough already--it's much more than that-- but imagine the UFOsoft shtick getting the Digital Eclipse Gold Master treatment with fake drama and friendship rifts.

I would have appreciated instruction manuals though, the simplistic ones accompanying NES games. Perhaps his own gaming background in that era (as implied by the floppy disk icons) was truly as blind as finding disks in sleeves and not even knowing if they're games. But mine was NES games that at least had manuals.

Re: Round Up: The Reviews Are In For Drag x Drive

Thomystic

They should probably have modeled this after Wii Sports and found 4 other sports that you could use mouse (or even double mouse) controls with. Or just sports that haven't been in a previous game. Cross-country skiing or rowing would fit the control scheme but also wouldn't be super interesting. Foosball would be cool and would use the gyros well. It wouldn't be mouse-controlled, but it would work better on a Switch or Switch 2 than a Wii. So that would showcase the tech. There would be a ready-made art style there with the Miis.

Re: UK Charts: Mafia: The Old Country Whacks Mario Kart World Down A Peg

Thomystic

I don't wanna make every article about game key cards, but notice the difference in sales between S1 and S2 in these key card releases:
Hogwarts Legacy = 53% vs 2%
Sonic & Shadow Generations = 34% vs 9%

To get a sense of what the install base discrepancy contributes to this:
SMP Jamboree = 64% vs 36%
TOTK = 51% vs 49%
THPS 3 & 4 (both code in box) = 21% vs 16%
BOTW = 57% vs 43%

I don't think they really need a survey.

I saw on Atari's web site that MK Kollection is $60 on Switch 2 (full game on card) but $50 on every other console. So it seems the cost difference rounds to $10. I think many gamers are fine with an extra $10 for it to be on the card.

Re: Review: Gradius Origins (Switch) - An Almost-Perfect Package For Shoot 'Em Up Fans

Thomystic

There are also portable Gradii(?) that could be added to a subsequent collection. And then we'll hopefully get Parodius and Goemon collections.

@B3RTAY This did read like a 9 to me which is when I interpret an 8 as an 8.5 in a more precise scoring system. Perhaps the score was heavily weighed towards the new game since aficionados more or less know what they're getting with the other parts.
