Re: Random: Shigeru Miyamoto Did Exactly What We Did When Playtesting Donkey Kong Bananza

I spent 20 minutes or so in the first room. Did I leave because I had done everything? Because I got bored? No. It's because I knew later I'd level up and be able to finish the job more efficiently. 😎

I give it 4 years before there are indie Bananzalike games. Perhaps the Saudi Arabian prince buys part of Thunderful and gets them to make SteamWorld Dig 3 where you find oil reserves.

Re: Rumour: Major Third-Party Devs Reportedly Sitting On Multiple Switch 2 Announcements

Perhaps they're gonna wait a bit and see how the game key card / only having 64gb cards to choose from situation shakes out. I just saw Little Nightmares III at Best Buy.com for $40 for Switch 2 (as a game key card) and $60 for Switch 1. I can't imagine their thinking it's worth $60 (first party MSRP) but not $70 (first party MSRP) with improved graphics. Perhaps this means it would have had to be $80 to maintain margins, or perhaps they're conducting an experiment to see how much people value the completeness of a card.

Re: Nintendo Is Seeking Player Feedback On Game-Key Cards In Japan

@Davesy22 They said in an interview that they shouldn't be that much more than current ones, but that defies credulity. I'm thinking they mean cards in the 32gb or lower range, like Doom Eternal, which was $60. But so far amongst Switch 2 game key cards, only Bravely Default (9.3gb), Hogwarts Legacy (23.1gb), Civ 7 (14.6gb), Kunitsu-Gami (10.1gb), Nobunaga's Ambition (12.4gb). This wouldn't work for Street Fighter 6, Hitman, Tony Hawk, or Split Fiction.

I hope this gets sorted out before Elden Ring and FF7 decide on their release format. It will be telling if Limited Run sells boatloads of, say, SF6 copies. (Not announced, just a hypothetical.)

And I could see it bringing extra demand to the used Switch 1 games market. Physical buyers might need to fill in parts of the release calendar that are just game key cards by taking a second pass through the Switch 1 catalog, even if those games are no longer that available in new condition. Maybe good but less popular games like Triangle Strategy, SMTV, and Unicorn Overlord will see spikes in sales down the road.

Re: "It Will Have A Chilling Effect On Game Design" - EU Group Responds To 'Stop Killing Games'

I could see them solving this by giving the server info to some preservation society for one game for a year. Then when that org whose motives we trust also has to close it down, we'll have a better sense of the math involved.

I don't get the argument about it chilling game design though. I get the argument about the rights holder being liable, but that sounds like something that you fix in a different way.

Re: Mega Man Is One Of Capcom's "Most Important IPs" Despite No New Games In 7+ Years

To be fair, he does get good representation at the Osaka and Tokyo Capcom stores. I think they just don't know how to modernize him. But they know from Ace Attorney that the market is healthy for AA releases. With increased backwards compatibility making console generations effectively 15 years, they won't be able to cheese headlines by re-releasing the same collections every 7 years. They'll need to finally give us a Star Force collection and/or Legends collection.
