Re: Super Mario Bros. Wonder Is Getting A Nintendo Switch 2 Edition

@bleeflooflah
Some of these games won't even have a month in between their release dates. I was thinking with the rise in dev costs for 4K and with them cleaning out the closet of dormant franchises (somewhat), they should probably move to 45-day average intervals. That would be food for our wallets too with the increased MSRP. But no, they're still on their 30-day pace per first party release.

Re: Surprise! Donkey Kong Bananza Is Getting DLC, And It's Out Today

Thomystic

It's a bit small for the price compared to the cost per layer of the base game. I suppose that's how it always is though. This is really neat and makes the best Switch game I've ever played even better, but it would have been more proportional in value if it also included Crocodile Isle or Northern Kremisphere.

Re: Mini Review: Dead Reset (Switch) - A Gory, Sci-Fi Take On Groundhog Day

Thomystic

@Smithicus In my experience, what a game had to work with is factored in. Scores help you know if a game matches or exceeds your expectations, so the expectations are factored in. Like DKCR HD got a 7 here while the original got a 10. Is it worse? No, it was just a disappointingly straight port. Is Horace (10) a better game than Cyberpunk (9)? Not necessarily, but it's a better game relative to the lane it occupies at time of release, or at least I think that's the intended takeaway (other than that these are different reviewers).

Re: "I Can't Afford To Give It Away For Free" - Silksong's Low Price Is Causing Devs To Re-Evaluate Their Own Games

Thomystic

It should have been $30. It was a bit naive of them not to have predicted this amid the discussion around $80 Mario Kart. And there are enough examples where series eventually become stale to gamers even if improved (Mario + Rabbits) or where the next game by an indie studio sells less well (SteamWorld) or where they run out of ideas (Playtonic). For all they know, Silksong revenue will need to fund the next 5 games before they get another hit.

Re: Daemon x Machina: Titanic Scion Roadmap Outlined

Thomystic

@Specters @UltimateOtaku91
It sounds like you were benefited by a roadmap then. For those who want DLC to also be on physical, it's best to learn about such plans before buying. This is a strange perspective to me, so I was very surprised to see it twice, almost verbatim. Although I get the anticlimax of the situation, anticipating an imminent purchase but now being incentivized to delay.

By putting the full game on cartridge, Marvelous is making a play particularly for physical collectors who frequently complain when Atlus does the opposite, releasing a fuller version of their more popular games a short time later.

Re: Rumour: Another Claim Points To A Nintendo Direct Later This Month

Thomystic

@Yosher Direct leaks are a different animal than game content or reveal leaks. Nintendo frankly announces them with far too short a notice for people to plan around them. It's as if they enjoy the sense of urgency they induce like they're a SimCity mayor who just clicked a natural disaster button. I think it's one of the most unethical things they do, frankly. Maybe the intent is to thwart streamers from stealing views. I don't know.

Re: Mini Review: Handy Hockey (Switch 2) - Mouse Mode Multiplayer That Does Exactly What It Says On The Tin

Thomystic

@BaldB3lper78 I'm thinking that it could make Nintendo the console of choice for FPS fans for the first time since 2001.

Or it could tap into the blue ocean of PC gamers who never considered a console before. But I suppose the same blue ocean prediction could have been made for the Wii U gamepad and mobile phone touch screen users. Nintendo just needs to sell officially licensed C-shaped end table / lap desk things to make couches more mouse friendly. 😆

Re: UFO 50 Gets A Surprise Shadow Drop On Switch Today

Thomystic

@AG_Awesome NF Magazine (formerly Nintendo Force until they got C&D'ed) announced that their next issue will have individual reviews on all 50. It comes out in 2 months, so there's time to get on their Patreon. I don't know what the minimum subscription period is. But at least you're in the US which might be all they ship to. (They also give PDF versions.)

Re: Random: Donkey Kong Bananza's Idle Animations Are Outrageously Cute

Thomystic

As if sublayer 1400 wasn't already my favorite.

Looygi Bros. on YouTube is also great for little charming minutiae. They could have paid tribute to Kit and Krysta by calling it Nintendo Minutiae. 😆 But then been C&D'ed

@datamonkey No, in fact the idle animations for Diddy and Dixie in DKB match those from DKC2 (1995).
