@Waluigi451
This is a deliberately obtuse take since these are obviously on a sliding scale. The subgenre in question is taking a traditional table game (card or board), turning it into a score chaser, then adding a roguelike progression system. But you knew that.
@MamaSymphonia
They don't. One can want their values promoted on a social level without being promoted on a legal level. Also a specific example was given regarding the rainbow of how the borrowing was a bit too on the nose for taste.
@B3RTAY Good critique. It's as if the clunkiness of Simon in the originals was an attempt at something like a cinematic platformer to contrast with Mario's fantastical jumps. Although Simon's square jumps weren't exactly cinematic.
I think the Igavanias are sleeker than the Classicvanias, but perhaps there's room for both in the future a la the Bloodstained series.
It's weird that a French team wants to fight a variation on Joan of Arc, so there must be more than meets the eye here. Castlevania has often had fights with mind-controlled protagonists, but a historical one is new.
Just today I heard an interview with an exorcist (not French) who said every demon has a nemesis in heaven who they're afraid of and that Satan himself has Joan of Arc. Believe what your lights tell you, but either way that's pretty awesome for Joan of Arc lore. Ironic then for her to be corrupted in this game. π
I believe this is the first first-party $40 game since Metroid Prime Remastered. I thought that would be the final one. And they didn't even utilize their new differentiated pricing for physical/digital. They could have easily made the physical $50 and digital $40 with the same amount of goodwill generated.
@Dee123 You went all-in with the "completely." These are the final two first-party games to be released on the Switch. Smh
@abbyhitter Exactly my answer: Oracle and Link Between Worlds.
@LEGEND_MARIOID Not to contest your overall point, but GC too Wii for Twilight Princess is a dual release. Inverting assets is nothing like a remake or even remaster.
@PlayingWithPower I was just scrolling down here to say that not all references are Easter eggs. As we should remember from precisely yesterday, they're supposed to be hidden.
I paid $13.50 for a matinee. Yikes. That's why I don't go to movies anymore. They nicely even gave me the option to pay $13 more for one tub of popcorn. π
@Dr_Lugae Great point about art vs. product. However, moderation in all things, and thankfully Nintendo has never released anything that feels to me focus-grouped to death like Western studios do.
@Yoshi3 I've long thought the 2nd biggest problem with Mario Kart was an inadequate sense of place. This quality enhances immersion just as much as graphics or story and is why side-scrolling open world (Metroidvania) is so popular. The open world helps with this. The hidden objects in the open world and the return of the Feather item mean that those who wanted a 3D Mario platformer at launch got one.
Of the three major changes that people on this very site suggested--Smash Kart, Tour-like lap variations, and open world--this gave us two of them.
@Bats1234 As a physical owner, it's whatever. HOWEVER, after eshop service goes down someday, I wonder if Nintendo could have update game cards that people could buy at cost. Like all first party published games for a certain number of years for $10-15 by mail order. It seems technologically feasible. And then they could also include in it overt permission to update other people's consoles so friends can mix and match. And then perhaps some third party publishers could do that even if as a group.
How about not having the item roulette animation at all? So often I'm pressing L to get it to stop and mistime it and end up using it. Sometimes I never even saw what it was. It's a game of seconds. I shouldn't have to wait 3 per item.
@DennisReynolds He's explaining how generative AI works. Your questions are obtuse. If a company with LOTS of IP uses AI to remix existing concepts, say Game freak coming up with "new" pokemon, then they wouldn't need to use external assets. That's not the case here. And there likely aren't enough public domain assets of this type for them to have come from.
I can't fathom so many people working on one game. As unfortunate as this is for the devs, what's bad for these types of games is good for the industry. There is no gaming industry if gamers can't rip themselves away from Minecraft, Roblox, and Fortnite to go try other things.
The Miyamoto point is solid, but Michelangelo is not the best example. He actually resisted painting the Sistine Chapel ceiling, saying "Painting is not my art." That's because he was really a sculptor. So imagine if he hadn't branched out into something adjacent.
This dev team has no discipline in adding non-Sonic characters. Canonicity matters not to these people. Then again, I didn't like Link and Inklings being in MK8 or F-Zero tracks.
How did they overlook this? I suppose Nintendo's lawyers were too busy copyright striking Youtubers to consult on hardware design. Or the R&D culture was just too secretive.
I still have the "Stop Charging Around 80-90%" option selected, yet the battery now says 100%. There must have also been an update that adjusts the percentage visibly while stopping short behind the scenes, for those of us that are bothered by it not showing 100 when done charging.
There are so many games whose existence you start to wonder if you maybe dreamt them up. Then they get mentioned in a trailer like this, and you realize that you are actually sane.
40 x 30?! I was wondering how they'd make SNES games work.
I also think the age ratings are so that people can't complain as much about price, haha.
They're doing the meme by picking that car. If it doesn't have any actions like the NFC minifigs do, then that will be the other meme: Luigi wins by doing nothing.
I like that the three characters on the Japanese cover are three different colors, and the greyed out background scenes in the Western one are a bit busy, but I still prefer the more serious poses of the Western one.

Re: PSA: 'Hello, Yoshi!' Hatches On Western Switch eShops Today
This reminds me of Duck Amuck on the DS, the Daffy Duck game by WayForward.
Also, I'm glad the copy says "play this application." Both "play this game" and "use this app" seem not quite right. Now I have the words.
