That would be an impressive feat, I wish them all the very best of luck!
I hope Nintendo carries on with the Maker series going forward. While 2 is one of the "best-selling" Switch games, I don't think it quite reached the sales heights Nintendo was hoping for. A SMB. Wonder game style would be awesome to see in a sequel!
@Clyde_Radcliffe Yeah I think they're pretty much extinct on our grounds, shame really. The last time I remember seeing one was around 2014 in Toys R Us with a selection of Wii U demos to enjoy!
Just saw the first advert for it on TV, the hype is real!!
Picking this up on launch day so hopefully I can avoid most spoilers as it seems the element of suprise is a pretty big feature. I can only imagine what goes on near the end!
Great article as always Kate! Pffft my most wanted list: 1. Still holding out for an F-Zero GX remaster. I'd be more than satisfied with a new entry don't get me wrong but something about the pure attitude of that era is something that's difficult to recreate. Look at Mario Strikers Charged and Battle League, both have their charm but the former pushes the boundaries a bit more.
2. A completely new Star Fox; ideally one that's not a remake of the OG or 64. If that means getting a bit experimental, so be it!
3. An ARMS sequel, if 1-2 Switch can get a second chance then SURELY this can!
I remember hearing about various glitches and how the game didn't look great on Switch when the game came out.
Have these improved at all over the course of the year (in terms of the glitches)? Cause the game itself looks really fun and fresh but if it ends up being a little buggy then that'll be a little disappointing. The final DLC looks epic though!
Yesterday evening I did actually play some New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe! I guess we're just all in the mood right now. Never really felt that motivated to complete it but I'm hoping to put some decent time into it before Wonder comes along!
The RROD bit made me chuckle😂 Love the Grab Bag videos and this one did not disappoint. I'd imagine someone like Reggie would have also got a Wii remote with his Mii on!
"Sent at 12:03am" Yeah, after a big glass of wine it seems!
Just the notion of this is frightening but this isn't the first time of course and Nintendo will keep their foot firmly down for as long as possible I'd imagine.
@Deemo37 I think tracks from the Queen and King cup are being introduced in the near future.
I'd be interested to know though: How often do the cups cycle and if, (once the King tracks have been introduced) all 15 will be in rotation or if it will be a cup-by-cup cycle over a few weeks if that makes sense!
9/10 for me too, it's a brilliant little game!
Runs great, feels great and is designed in such a way that (as many have pointed out) makes it enticing to return to again and again!
It's exhilerating as always and in the grand scheme of things: this is a pretty big step forward for the franchise.
Obviously not visually but for this to appear out of nowhere for the first time in 20 years to a generally positive reception...it's exciting!
Seeing Funky Kong there just makes me...so happy. @CaleBoi25 One way they could do it (although it would be a bit odd) is have Funky and Peachette be alts for Donkey Kong and Toadette respectively.
I think this direct was pretty decent in the context they're slowing down momentum on Switch to invest resources into Switch 2 development. I'd rather have great remakes/remasters for now as opposed to half-baked, bottom of the barrel efforts.
My personal highlights were: Mario Kart Wave 6 with the suprising number of characters Paper Mario Thousand Year Door. Can't wait to experience this for the first time F-Zero 99. If you haven't tried it out yet, give it a chance it's very fun and has plenty of unlockables to obtain.
Wow they went all out on the characters this is incredible!!
I think, Daisy Circuit is an odd pick though I wonder what that means for the rest of the wave. It's never as plain sailing as we think it is😂
Hopefully it will pre-December
Edit: Just rewatched the trailer and Funky Kong retains his old voice lines! I have a huge grin on my face right now.
As a musician, this and the 'Arranging Music' video are absolute gems! It's really fascinating to hear how much effort and care Sakurai gives for even just the little things and that goes for all aspects of Smash not just music.
Our journey round the world has come to an end. Whilst not my preferred Mario Kart, the game was given the chance to try so many interesting things like the point system and character costumes. It's a significant entry that's for sure.
Now attention can shift to something new right??😉
God what I would give for this series to be revived. The potential it has for online multiplayer, heck, even the story mode which in itself is enough to set it apart from Mario Kart (if that's what Nintendo's worried about??)
Hopefully there will be interest for it in the future, but by the sounds of this, we're not going to be seeing a remaster any time soon.
@Gryffin Depends what things bother you really. The controls and speed of the game are my two gripes with it. It's a shame after all this time we never got bluetooth controller support but to be fair, it's not too suprising.
Obtaining characters/karts/gliders (particularly more 'high-end' ones) is a lot fairer than it was originally. There's a shop to buy the specific character/kart/glider you desire. While they do cost quite a lot of rubies (in-game currency,) it's a big step up from relying wholly on a lucky dip! Balloon battle was also added to the game last year.
Despite this though, I've found it harder and harder to return to Tour. And that's down to the Booster Course Pass. The DLC including all of the cities (in their complete forms), tour originals and a wealth of returning tracks leaves MK8D truly eclipsing it in many ways. Certainly by the time Wave 4 and 5 rolled around, I found myself returning to tour less and less as there was already a good chunk of it on Switch to enjoy at any time with a much better control scheme. That feeling might change once the DLC has finished and excitement has died down but we'll see.
If you haven't played it since 2019/2020 then it's probably worth a visit or two just to see what's been added/fixed since!

If you asked me a month ago I would be well down for one but at this point I'm more than happy to wait.
Or they could pull a Metroid Dread and release it two weeks after launch for some reason!
