Re: Mailbox: Ninty Getting Its Freak On, Area Codes, The 'Discourse' - Nintendo Life Letters

Nintoz

I think when it comes to the discourse, particularly around the pricing, one thing that gets always gets whipped out is:
"You're ruining it for the rest of us by investing in £75/$80 games"

Did you seriously not think game prices weren't going to increase with the next generation, now granted, us Nintendo fans have had it quite nice with pretty much solid £50/$60 max for quite a while so some shock is valid.
But this was going to happen regardless of Nintendo's decisions, they're just the first to put their console with these structures in place.

A similar case could be made for the game key cards, while I don't like them at least we have a cartridge slot! I'll be interested to see whether the equivalent for PS/Xbox will make the cut for their next-gen systems

Re: Anniversary: 10 Years After His Passing, Satoru Iwata's Thoughts Are More Relevant Than Ever

Nintoz

Unfortunately I wasn't in the Nintendo-fan ecosystem when Iwata was president but from reading 'his' book (Ask Iwata) as well as consuming other bits of information about his life and legacy I have to say, what an astounding impact this man made.

There too much to mention in one go, but I will highlight how he encouraged Sakurai to keep going with his Smash Bros. prototype even when it was initially rejected by Nintendo. In fact, the friendship between was something quite special, I highly reccomend Sakurai's video on it.

Re: Mario Kart Tour Grants Access To A Track Unplayable Anywhere Else

Nintoz

I've uninstalled Mario Kart Tour but I really enjoyed this track, and hoped it would make it to Wave 6 of the Booster Course Pass.

To be fair though, if it was a toss-up between this and Piranha Plant Cove... I'd probably still go for the latter with it being the most thematically different (we already had Piranha Plant Pipeway after all!)

Re: Talking Point: One Month On, How Did Nintendo's Switch 2 Launch Go?

Nintoz

It's a beautiful system, whenever I walk past it I can't help but admire it for a few seconds. Or, if I feel so inclined, snap one of the joy-cons off and on.

I think what I enjoy most about it (from a physical hardware perspective) is how it feels more like a single unit rather than a tablet with two somewhat fiddly grips attached to it. Maybe the colouring helps but it feels much more like a piece of tech than a toy if that makes sense.

Re: Fans Reckon Nintendo Has "Killed" Mario Kart World With Its Latest Update

Nintoz

It should really be 2 courses and 1 route to pick from.
I know the routes are one of the selling points of the game but in this instance people are picking VS. Race not Knockout Tour and so are clearly after a more traditional Mario Kart experience.
There are quite a few routes that I like but I think it's a massive oversight that you can't pick a room for one or the other.

Of course we've seen with games like Super Mario Party Jamboree that having too many online filters can ruin matchmaking but honestly the player base of Mario Kart would handle another one just fine.

Re: Drag X Drive Switch 2 eShop Price Revealed

Nintoz

I've been remaining optimistic for this game and while I was initially pleased with the £16.99 price, it does place a question mark over the amount of content and replayability the game has.

I'll probably end up spending that money on Kirby instead

Re: Share How You're Using GameChat and Win LEGO Mario Kart + Mighty Bowser!

Nintoz

The next Animal Crossing I think will benefit greatly from the GameChat feature.
It would be like Wii Speak all over again!

Another thought is whether they could pull off something a bit like Project Milo from E3 2009 with the Kinect and have your villagers respond to things you might say (within certain limits of course) and generate responses based off key words.

Re: Talking Point: How Are You Finding Mario Kart's Open World?

Nintoz

I do think some people forget that simply driving around wherever you want is really appealing to a good number of people.

I showed the free roam mode to my mum the other day, and she had a lovely time just driving round and taking in the sights. Couldn't give a hoot about any sort of 'mission' to complete.

But for me, while I do like it and think the missions, coins and panels themselves are fine, it's the incentive to do them that's the problem. Stickers...really??

Re: Hardware Review (In Progress): Nintendo Switch 2 - A Faster, Slicker, Sexier Switch

Nintoz

Battery life feels alright to me but this is coming from someone who stuck by their 2017 Switch all this time.

I'd say the two things I love most about it is the weight of it (still pretty light) and the quality of the screen. I'm sure OLED would have been lovely but this is still really nice.

As for Switch 1 games that haven't been upgraded, I've only tried Mario Wonder and it look a bit better than I was expecting but obviously it's a little blurry especially when you've just hopped off Mario Kart World!
