Re: Images Of Yoshi From 'The Super Mario Galaxy Movie' Have Leaked Online

Nintoz

@PeterTomlan86 @N00BiSH This is my main concern too, I am very much looking forward to the film but Galaxy has (while it may sound a bit silly) an emotional maturity to it that I just can't see Illumination being able to handle. Their films are very polished and (with the help of Nintendo) realised the world of Mario exceptionally well.

Whether they can handle 'heavy moments' is another thing however. 'Kids' films can do it! (looking at you Toy Story 3). But like you're saying, it's really not in their wheelhouse so unless Miyamoto (or maybe even Koizumi) has really put their foot down, it remains to be seen whether they can capture the 'grandiose nature' effectively.

Happy 20th Nintendo Life!🥳

This is such a lovely community, like a little safe haven from the rest of the internet! And the articles from your talented staff writers/contributors are superb.
The Partridge-esque humour at times brings with it a lovely sense of self-awareness which is often something I wish other outlets would adopt.
You have and will continue to be me my No. 1 stop for Nintendo news and shenanigans!

Re: Nintendo Releases A Storefront App For Android And iOS

@Suketoudara I think there's room for both, Directs generate a huge amount of hype and word of mouth and (looking at them objectively) almost always deliver a variety of strong announcements that appeal to a wide range of people.

The stuff we've seen recently definitely feels like a repeat of last year (Alarmo, XCX: DE, Nintendo Music) in terms of the kinds of announcements. The release of Close To You and the Store app are to a certain degree, targeted towards investors by showing off their in-house development and consumer touch-point expansions so they make sense to release around the time of the financial briefing.

And, as much I love them, Directs can cause people's expectations to sky-rocket. I doubt that free Pikmin 4 update would have been received as well in that context especially if they aired Close To You before it. To, instead, have something like that appear as a surprise out of nowhere can generate a more positive reception.

The best way to navigate the eShop by far and the day-by-day breakdown of every game you've played is a very nice addition!

Immediately rushed to 22/12/23 on Mario Kart 8 Deluxe to see that I indeed spent 5hr 15mins going through every track🫠

Very interesting!
One of the games I was surprised didn't get a free update but at presumably £7.99, I'll bite.
EDIT: Apparently it's like £4.29 which is great, heck I may even pre-order that!

Love the addition of all the retro consoles, my nerd room will finally be complete!!

The hotel thing is also interesing as that seems to be a scaled back version of the paid Happy Home Paradise DLC.

@Serpenterror Miyamoto's not particularly involved with Mario game development anymore so in terms of that you're looking more at Takashi Tezuka (64) for the 2D games and Yoshiaki Koizumi (57) for the 3D ones although the latter has moved up to a much more senior role in the company since Odyssey and so may not be captaining the next game.
I think Yuka Kitahara or Koichi Hayashida could be suitable replacements for this role.

As for 2D Mario, Shiro Mouri (56) who directed Mario Wonder could step in as producer for a bit when Tezuka retires.

As for who'll take the reigns of all the movie stuff which is what Miyamoto seems most invested in nowadays, maybe Tezuka or Koizumi will move into that role. I would imagine they have a succession plan for something like that.

I was also really glad to hear (in the same interview) Koji Kondo confirming he'll continue to compose for Mario games which may not sound surprising but I think of others like Nobuo Uematsu who's rightfully slowing down after decades in the industry.

It's nice to know Kondo's still going to be hands-on with Mario's sound design and music for the foreseeable future!
