Others have said it before but this is very much a COVID idea that's only now seeing the light of day.
I struggle to see myself using it.

It's been really interesting and exciting seeing Nintendo (and other developers) really push 'the power of the Switch 2' as a key selling point as we haven't really seen that since the GameCube era!

For me, the most intriguing thing about the list of games getting free updates were the games that weren't on the list.

Super Mario Odyssey, Link's Awakening, NSMBUD etc.are all games that Nintendo clearly has no desire to revisit for additional content, but titles like Pikmin 4 and Super Mario Bros. Wonder that felt like obvious DLC candidates around the time of their release...just came ans went.
I genuinely think we'll see a Switch 2 edition at least one of these games, even if it's just bumping them up to 4K.

The Mario Parties would be amazing to have.
With access to the first 7 + the Switch games if you have em, that's one hell of a good time!

I'm also curious if they'll just bypass titles like Metroid Prime, Pikmin, TTYD etc. that have standalone remasters/remakes on Switch. I suppose if Super Mario RPG/Mario VS. Donkey Kong is anything to go by, they probably will just leave them which is a shame.

@Yosher I'd imagine it's do with them wanting Mario Kart World to be the main focus for the time being (maybe that suggests DLC sooner rather than later but I'm getting ahead of myself).

The understandably flat track design of the other two don't quite cut it for me... although Super Circuit does have a few bangers.

I know Nintendo's been wailed on a bit over the last few weeks, and in some cases rightly so, over some of their decisions.

But their artistic integrity is second to none, I can't believe this was even questioned in the first place!

I remember the moment vividly, I was a little fed up having doing a heck load of exam prep on my birthday.

@Spider-Kev Yeah I guess Smash is one of those series that's pretty much the same song and dance each time.
But I guess there's no better time than now to shake things up!

After Mario Kart has its time in the multiplayer spotlight, I would really like to feel that Smash Bros. hype again.
Whatever form it takes!

Obviously a better alternative to code-in-a-box but I hope these aren't deployed over frequently to the point that virtually every 3rd party 'physical' release is a key card.

Yeah there does seem to be a correlation between games that have had OST releases and those that are added to Nintendo Music.
I'd imagine it comes down to mastering.

I can understand why some songs can't be extended but something like Stickerbush Symphony was a really odd omission

I can see myself getting the Kirby one but as much as I love the look of the new Jamboree modes...it doesn't look like a great single player experience which the rest of the game does surprisingly well

I've had my Switch 1 pro controller for the best part of 7 years now and would like to pick this up, but I don't think it'll be day 1 for me

I remember Miyamoto being asked the same question around when the Mario Movie released to which he responded with pretty much the same answer and then Mario Wonder and Mario RPG were both announced in the very next Direct.

It's hard to imagine we're ever too far away from the next Mario adventure but I'd imagine we'll hear something sooner rather than later especially with the 40th anniversary approaching

I know a lot of people wanted Paper Mario, Luigi's Mansion etc. representation and I respect that but I just love the sheer stupidity of seeing all these guys drive it's insane

Did it warrant a Direct? No, not really.

In comparison, Mario Wonder's direct was just over 15 minutes and showed off a ton of stuff albeit we knew very little about the game prior to that showcase.

If this is 15 minutes long and we already know a ton, well...

14. I really hope Switch 1 games will automatically run at their docked resolution in handheld mode but I'm not hopeful, I'm pretty sure the games know which one they're running in.

I think Mario Kart's key art does it more justice than the box art so I'm gonna go with Donkey Kong.

Also am I the only one who...doesn't mind the game case design?? The 'Edition' game's text at the bottom is ugly as hell but I really don't think the general design is that bad.

I should really give MPR a go beforehand though. I've played a bit of Hunters and Corruption and would be interested to know whether it's the controls that are putting me off or the gameplay itself (my biggest pet peeve in gaming is going round in loops for hours and hours without a clue where I'm suppossed to be going, and trying to find a guide for specifically what you're looking for online can be a pain. This is much bigger issue for 2D Metroid though.)

But the realistic price of Switch 2 games (as in how much of a slash they get from retailers) will determine how much I'm willing to invest in the system. And that's something we might not know until several months after the system's launch!

@Not_Soos Although this selection screen omits a bunch of characters who we see driving as CPUs like Monty Mole and Kataquack that will make up a fair few numbers.
Still don't think we'll get 60+ unique characters but the roster should be interesting and varied enough.

After reading Reggie's book, I have a feeling this would have been free had he still been in charge.
When he proposed the idea of Wii Sports being a pack-in, he was faced with a backlash of "We don't give away our games for free" from Miyamoto (I think), and look what wonders Wii Sports did thanks to it being a pack-in.

I don't think this Welcome Tour would have set the world on fire in the same way but it's certainly a sign of the times
