Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (15th March)

Just finished Star Ocean Second Story R, and frankly, I’m rather glad to be done with it. Story was surprisingly weak, but thankfully the combat was sufficiently enjoyable to make me want to finish the game. No more JRPGs for this cat for a while, that’s for damn sure. Cleansing my palate with a little Thank Goodness You’re Here!; just right.

@sketchturner Right on! I finally picked it up last year and am so glad I did. My only gripe is with the camera; I completely get the authentic challenge of certain passages and rooms being obstructed as part of good puzzle design, but sometimes the camera just unfairly works against you.

Finished FF VI PR on Friday. I played the original on SNES when it first came out and absolutely loved it. Even with QOL upgrades, the game doesn’t hold up like I had hoped it would. Other old school RPGs still shine, like Lunar and Secret of Mana, but FF VI just didn’t as much; oh, well. It was still enjoyable, mostly for the soundtrack.

Next up will probably be Star Ocean Second Story R. Never played a SO game before, but this one got a lot of positive reviews, so I’m optimistic.

Re: Reaction: A Direct That Delivered, And Shows That Switch Still Has Plenty Of Pep

There were a lot of amazing announcements, but nothing that landed with me. There were a couple of games that, when the reveal began, my excitement went sky-high because I thought it was something it wasn’t. I thought that the Zelda game was a NES remake and that DKCR was a remake of the original DKC for SNES; oh, well. I’m glad everyone else seemed to enjoy this Direct.

I’m guessing they were offered attractive municipal real estate incentives relative to other locations under consideration. I don’t follow Fox News, Breitbart, etc., but am still well aware of the problems that downtown SF has been experiencing in recent years, including a struggling commercial real estate market. One would have to employ some pretty magical thinking to pretend that SF’s problems all just right-wing hate and exaggeration; the city can be a lot better than it is. Hopefully the new Nintendo store is successful and helps toward making the downtown a more attractive place to visit.

Re: Nintendo Expands Switch Online's Game Boy Advance Library Later This Week

I bided my time as the NSO library was very slowly built over the past X years, only having finally subscribed a month ago. Now I’m joyfully going through a bunch of old gems that I never played before, especially enjoying Treasure’s work for Sega. Every new release is a bemusing and pathetic joke, but then again, I don’t care because I’m happily taking the long way home.
