@Bass_X0 Ah, I didn’t word that as clearly as I should have. I’m fine with the shell, I just don’t want the games tied to a subscription. A cartridge would do, even if it was a bit more. I certainly wouldn’t expect a fully working standalone device for that price.
I’m interested. If this were a VB mini for $100 or maybe even a bit more with games included I would have one ordered already. But $100 plus a subscription? No.
@CasualTalkRadio Are they? I only own one and I keep all my cases in storage so I haven’t looked at it much. With how few of them will be worth owning it might not be a huge lift to print out some better art if it bugs you. Sad really.
I gave it a 5. There were a few games I’m interested in, but with the keycard situation it dampens the excitement. I thought Nintendo would be the lone bright spot in that regard, but for Galaxy we only get the Switch 1 version physically? Virtual Boy is cool, but I have to pay a subscription to use it? I would buy the thing if it came with a cart that had all the games on it. Honesty I’m losing interest in buying games that aren’t absolute must haves like Prime 4. Game publishers just aren’t interested in giving me what I want. So be it.
I have never been one to buy 3rd party controllers, but after having two Nintendo Switch Pro controllers become unusable I got the original Ultimate controller and it became the goto controller in the house. For me the lack of HD rumble was the only negative.
With costco’s deal on the Switch 2 Pro controller and all the glowing reviews, I broke down and got one. That is now the goto controller (meaning I don’t get to use it for multiplayer sessions), but I’m not willing to put more money into Nintendo made controllers until they prove their durability. Besides I now get to use my ultimate controller for multiplayer again. I’m hoping it will get an update to support the GL, GR button functionality on Switch 2 as using the app can be cumbersome.
This is the only announced game I’m looking forward to, but I can wait until it’s ready. I expect November. Prime 2 and 3 would be welcome while we wait.
I played it and got stuck at a boss years ago. Since then I read there is an order you should follow not to get stuck but I haven’t gone back. I probably will at some point. It was great until I got stuck.
I don’t want to encourage this behavior. Proper Switch 2 cartridges are the only thing I will support for a full priced game. When it drops to 50% off I might consider it.
I can wait for physical releases. Plenty to play. I love Y’s going back to the Sega Master System, but either a future physical release or dirt cheap digital is fine. I haven’t even opened 9 yet.
@Jeronan Hey, I hope it’s great and you enjoy it more than MK. Racing games aren’t for me and I’d like to see Nintendo add more variety to the Switch 2 catalog in its first year is all. Maybe this year will fill out really well and it won’t matter. Who knows?
This could be my first used key card. I’m hoping the negativity around key cards will keep their resale value down. Maybe I’ll buy at around 1/2 price, play it, and flip it.
Glad for the fans. I got through 10 minutes of the direct. I really think releasing two Nintendo racing games in one year is a mistake, and a launch year for a new console is even worse.
Nam 75 is an all time classic. My brother bought a Neo Geo home system back in the day and it came with the game. I got really good at it to the point where I could beat it without continuing. Still love it. It would be weird playing it without those joystick controllers though. Wonder if my 8bitdo Arcade stick would be close enough.
Any kind of entertainment is a tough industry to be in in the best of times, but I hate seeing so many people losing jobs. Hollywood is just as bad right now with many people scrambling for new careers. Hope they all land in a good place.
@Blast16 It looks amazing, but there's no reason for the physical to be double the price of the digital. I'm willing to pay a bit more ($5-10), but double is a deal breaker.
I got a Pro 2 rather than getting an SNES controller from Nintendo because everyone praised the D-Pad. I found it really lacking. I think it was Shantae and the Pirate's Curse that has a move where you have to go one way and then suddenly switch to the opposite direction that was almost impossible to pull off because it would register a down input in between and she would crouch.
I really prefer the layout of their Ultimate controller that I sprang for after my 2nd Switch Pro Controller developed drift. Prior to the Switch 2 Pro Controller release it was the most popular controller in the house that everyone wanted to use. Now it's relegated to 2nd but still sees use. But if Nintendo's new beauty develops drift I'll be getting another 8bitdo Ultimate controller.
We really need Nintendo to suss out the docked VRR situation as my understanding is that would make 40fps feel better. My TV is ready. But I don't have a pro football team and will be waiting for NCAA as a complete game on a cartridge (yeah, not going to happen).
I’m reevaluating. I love Nintendo games above all. For the most part I don’t play big AAA games and I don’t value digital goods. Switch was perfect for me because I had Nintendo games, indies, and the odd third party game. I own hundreds of Switch cartridges. I was excited for Switch 2 to have more power and keep the physical games coming for one more generation. 2 months in I own one cartridge.
With Switch 2 I’m set for Nintendo games for the next 7 years or whatever. But I’m starting to consider some kind of PC option for everything else. I have 400+ free games I got on Epic that I’ve never touched. Steam gets super cheap regularly. Those games aren’t tied to an ecosystem with an unsure future, and I believe I can back them up if I want to.
I know all of the consoles have been racing to digital for a long time now, and maybe those enticing profit margins that they no longer have to share with retailers will actually materialize into better overall profits. But when some of your better customers who were buying hundreds of games are now buying 20 over the course of a generation, you might just be slitting your own throat.
Nintendo gamers who want these types of games likely have some way to play them already since they’ve never really been on Nintendo hardware aside from a couple notable exceptions that spring to mind on the Wii and WiiU. Still it would be nice for people to have options.
I would buy an NCAA football game (complete on cart) if they released it, but Madden doesn’t really interest me. The wait continues.
I think a lot of keycards will eventually get true physical releases from the boutique physical distributors if not the major publishers. If I’m wrong no big deal, by the time I get around to playing a lot of these games they’ll be a lot cheaper, or I’ll realize I didn’t really need them. Their loss.
@SuntannedDuck2 Very true that people don’t know about a lot of niche systems, but my point was that the PC Engine was VERY popular in Japan. I don’t think Capcom published any CD games for it, but they did do a port of Street Fighter II. It was significantly more popular than the Mega Drive. Okamoto would know these things.
Also interesting that he doesn’t mention the Famicom Disk System. Distribution on that system must’ve been significantly cheaper. They even had kiosks where you could have a game overwritten with a new one. Apparently Capcom only published 1 game, Section Z, on disk. I wonder why. Maybe the smaller install base? I wonder if they could have done 2 versions to save on costs.
CD based console games were around long before PlayStation. The PC Engine was very successful in Japan in the early 90s. Sony’s clout was able to bring a lot of the bigger 3rd parties away from Nintendo though. There is probably a lot more to this story that would be interesting to learn.
I don’t love the wording of the poll questions. I get motion sickness from playing it for any extended period, but I wouldn’t call it unplayable. I’ve taken to playing it farther away from my TV and that helps.I might have to try using my Relief Band while playing it. That helps with flying and such so maybe it would help with games.
I normally like to just stay on track and complete the story in a game. BOTW and TOTK were pretty big exceptions. With DK I’m getting that same vibe. I can wait. I have a feeling this key card situation will work out either with the manufacturing price coming down on proper cartridges or the Limited Run/VGPs of the world redoing them.
Failing that maybe I’ll buy a used key card (kinda feel like their resale value may be really low with all the negativity), wait for it to get dirt cheap, or just skip it. I haven’t even opened Ys IX yet.
This is very concerning. I've had to replace batteries in Pro 1 controllers twice and it's simple. I now have two Pro 1 controllers with drift and have been tempted to try swapping out the sticks. About 3 hours. The character I chose didn’t even have costumes so not much incentive to do much beyond racing. It’s still Mario Kart and not really for me. Wish I had been able to get the console rather than the bundle. Don’t really have much desire to play it more but I’m stuck with it since it’s digital.

Re: Shinobi: Art Of Vengeance Reveals Final SEGA Villain For Upcoming DLC
I ran into one game breaking bug that was eventually patched only to run into another. I moved on. Sad because I was enjoying the game.

This is great. Look forward to adding it to my Switch 2 library! Good news for once.

Re: Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade Director Highlights The Speed Problem With Switch 2 Game Cards
That’s fine. Looking forward to getting the keycard cheap (used or on sale), playing, and reselling it. Really no reason to hold onto it.
Re: Shinobi: Art Of Vengeance Switch Resolution Update Now Available
Finally. I’ve been stuck at Neo City and moved on to playing Ninja Gaiden.
