@GoldenSunRM Nice, I appreciate the heads up. I always hear 3 Houses is the best one, but I didn’t feel like running around the monastery doing little tasks for people and just stopped. I had borrowed it from the library so no big deal. I do own a copy of Engage I got on clearance. I’ll give that a try at some point, but with it underperforming I think FW is either going to be a return to the 3 Houses style or some new direction.
Yeah, no. I've been interested in this game from its reputation, but I'm not shelling out $80 to find out. Demos are going to be more important than ever this generation, but I'd still hold out for a massive sale or maybe even a used copy. Any key card I buy is getting flipped after I'm done because there's no reason to keep it.
@Max_the_German I’ve started the game on two different systems, Wii & Switch, but fell off within a few hours both times. Zelda is my favorite game series, and as someone who lived in Japan and studied the language and culture, the setting really appeals to me. I want to love it, but so far I don’t.
Ugh, I don’t like hearing that it has so much fan service. The first movie was nothing but. We need a story this time. Illumination was the wrong partner for Nintendo, and I’m concerned the success of the first movie taught them the wrong lesson (at least from my perspective).
However, I have AMC A-List and see movies at the theater weekly if not more often with a group of friends and fellow movie fanatics, so I’ll be seeing it regardless and hoping that my concerns are unfounded.
I loved DQB. I enjoyed it more than DQB2 even though the sequel had some huge QOL improvements. I never did quite finish 2 and I’m looking for a game to play on an upcoming trip. Maybe I should give it another go.
I’m interested to see what they could do with a new Star Fox. If a new take on the original gets us something like a reimagining like BOTW was to the original Zelda that could really be cool.
As someone who finds almost no value in downloadable goods of any kind, I fully support this. It will bring down physical prices as well. No way the Walmarts and Costcos of the world sell at full MSRP. Competition is good. People buying digital should be getting a break because they have to foot the bill for storing those games.
For me I can’t see ever spending over $10 or so on a digital game unless it was from one of a handful of my absolute favorite series and there was no physical option whatsoever. I love gaming, but I have so many choices when I sit down to play that in most cases I can wait as long as it takes to get a reasonable price. It always works out.
Chicks! The little critters are so cute and smarter than I thought before raising a couple flocks. Plus when they grow up they lay eggs you can eat, assuming you’ve got females of course (roosters are illegal in my city).
Nice to see they added the key card option for not buying it after the RE survey didn’t specify that (I wrote it in ‘other’). Maybe they got the message. Interestingly for the what would make you interested question full physical release wasn’t an option so it’s back to the ‘other’ field.
I would actually buy both RE9 and MHS3 on a real cartridge, but since they aren’t I have many other things available to play. I’ll keep my money for Indy.
A lot of these investors don’t understand that not every sector can be squeezed like that. There are many games I would like to play but I have limited time and a plethora of choices. That’s why I can choose not to buy game key cards for example, there are so many other things to play. If I had to pay for predatory micro transactions in the new Mario game I would just grab a different game or play something from my backlog.
The fact that this has gyro controls elevated it for me. Maybe I’ll pick up a used keycard in a few months, beat it, and flip it. On cartridge it would’ve been a day one keeper.
I got my first 3DS in 2019 right before they were gone forever. Got the SNES edition N3DSXL. I want to love it, but it’s so uncomfortable to hold for long periods. However that didn’t stop me from playing through Samus Returns and Link Between Worlds.
Later I grabbed a refurb 2DSXL from Nintendo but I’ve never used it. Popped the battery out and put it back in the box for safe keeping.
@mattitudemf Nice! I’m with you. I spend more time on gaming news than gaming because it’s easy to listen to podcasts or read articles during work downtime. Sometimes I’ll do a soft mod or hack an older system just for fun and mess with it a bit, but they usually get put away soon after, haha. I was super excited to relive my TurboGrafx days with the mini a few years ago, but I think I only used it for a handful of hours. It sat around for a time and then made me a decent profit.
@mattitudemf That would be cool. I should finally grab a Mister. Although I find the idea of playing retro games a lot more interesting than actually doing it. In a way it’s better if they don’t release more collections because I have a bunch.
Just drop some collections on cartridges. An NES collection, a virtual boy collection, etc. Offer a bundle with a controller as an option. Or break it up by series. Just give us some classics on cartridge.
Glad to see that Switch 2 cartridge as I held out on the Switch 1 version. I’ll be waiting to get it on sale as games in this series pretty much always go down into the $45 range or lower. Indy is coming in early May and I already plan to get that one at full price to support physical on Switch 2 (as long as it has gyro controls). Makes me think I should offload my copies of 2 and 3 that have been in the backlog.
@HingryHuppo Yes, it was absolutely a movie children could enjoy and watch over and over. Mine thought it was fine, but never really mentioned it again. They are older than your son though.
The movie accomplished a lot from Nintendo’s perspective, and you may be right about Miyamoto, but it feels like an Illumination movie to me.
@rjejr It really seems like you didn’t read my comment. You’re mostly agreeing with me. I said they either did something right or the IP was enough to bring people. I said Mario was mediocre, not terrible. Seems equivalent to your “fine”.
What was Lasseter’s involvement with Lightyear? A “Thanks” credit?
Sure, nobody has a perfect track record, but you’d be hard pressed to find a better run than the one Pixar had under Lasseter. I think he and Miyamoto working together would have had a better shot at making something great rather than a movie that basically survives off of references. His “scandal” seemed overblown from what I read (and heard from a friend who worked directly with him). But it’s my hypothetical and if I want to imagine Lasseter as a candidate I’m not going to let his tendency to give hugs stop me, haha.
Dreamworks has a range of films, some better than others, but I think their best is better than Illumination’s. Illumination’s best work is Despicable Me, which is much more of a comedy than any Mario movie should be. I haven’t liked anything else they made.
There are a lot of great animation studios out there, but I think Nintendo felt they needed a big partner so I didn’t dive too deep in this hypothetical. Plus they already had a partner in Universal which owns both Illumination and Dreamworks.
At the end of the day the movie made a billion dollars or whatever, so either they did something right or the IP was enough to bring people out to the theater. I don’t know if more references will be enough to carry a sequel across the billion dollar line so I hope they really nailed a good story this time.
I eagerly awaited the new Shinobi last year, played it until I encountered a game breaking bug, waited for a patch and then played it until I encountered ANOTHER game breaking bug. Then I gave up. Lesson learned.
I really wish Nintendo hadn’t partnered with Illumination for this. The result was predictable, mediocre children’s fare. Maybe they could have partnered with John Lasseter or at least Dreamworks, as they’ve shown they can make family friendly movies that have wider appeal. I’m hoping against hope that Galaxy will be a big step up.
If you want to watch it without ads try your local library. Mine has blu-rays. Quality is better than most streaming and there are no ads.
I’d be perfectly happy with another BOTW. It is the best game ever made. The story is a great framework for the story that happens for each player or play through. Interactive stories are different than linear stories, and game designers shouldn’t try to copy movies. BOTW really delivered an interactive story. I’m playing through it again right now. TOTK is great, but the building mechanic added nothing for me.
I’d love for them to bring back motion controls. For the life of me I can’t understand why people online hate them so much. I found them really immersive in both Twilight Princess and especially Skyward Sword.
After Metroid I was ready for my third playthrough of BOTW. Picked up the Switch 2 cartridge and am enjoying it all over again. Looking forward to Indy now that we know it’s on cartridge, and waiting for some keycard games to get cheap enough to be worth a play and flip. In the meantime I have a huge backlog of Switch games to play, the improved performance on Switch 2 has been totally worth the upgrade.
This is good news for me. Indy is the only one I was interested in but assumed it would be a key card. I tried to play it on Amazon Luma but it didn’t support gyro as far as I could tell. Now I will be buying it on Switch 2 (assuming it has gyro support)
Splatoon Raiders is the only thing that interests me at the moment. I’ll give Fire Emblem a look when it comes out. Everything else that looks good is a key card and those will have to wait for super cheap prices or 2nd hand purchases for cheap. I’ll beat them and flip them because there’s no reason to keep them.
I’d be down for the peripheral, but not the subscription. Package the product with the games and I’d be interested. But spend $100 on something that won’t be usable at all when I’m not subscribed or they shut it down? No way. There’s probably a way to emulate these with my AR glasses.
Too bad Nintendo partnered with Illumination. Their movies skew way too young rather than for all ages. The first Mario movie was a big disappointment. It’s like they thought they could do the same old thing and just toss in a bunch of fan service. I hope they finally made a good movie, but their track record doesn’t give me hope.
Mario Wonder was just ok for me. None of this content looks even up to that level. I don’t want to encourage this kind of release from Nintendo either, so no I won’t be buying this in any form.
My experience was very similar to the author's except that I largely avoided the conversation online, and I'm glad that I did. I knew that people were saying it was bad and unlike a Metroid game, but that wasn't the experience I was having so I just left all of those topics unclicked.
No spoilers here, but by the time the credits rolled I was really disappointed in what had happened in the story. I had fun playing the game despite its problems. I didn't mind the addition of NPCs for this entry. It would have helped if they were better characters, and to be clear I wouldn't want them in every Metroid game going forward.
After completing the game this last Friday I went online and looked at the discourse around it. I largely agree with all the negative sentiments, but I'm glad that it didn't color my play through. For me this wasn't an "Other M" moment, but definitely not a high mark either. It was an enjoyable game, but I doubt I will revisit it when the original trilogy is available to me.
I think the discounts are about previous generation hardware. There are plenty of people who don’t care to have the latest and greatest game system. A cheap Switch with some amazing games at a discount price would make an amazing Christmas present for a child. But instead prices went up.
Seems like a good chance to invest. When big first party games come along and the next generation competitors come out at even higher prices, the Switch 2 is going to look much better to a lot of people.

I will buy this when Switch 2 gets a physical or the digital/GKC version gets a steep, steep discount. I have a huge backlog so I’m not hurting for anything to play.
Strider is my favorite, but I’d go with the standard cover. I always thought it was a little strange to have a cover for one game when it’s a collection.
Thanks, I let them know that I won’t be buying key cards or downloads so key card = no sale. I’ll patiently wait for them to rerelease their games on physical.
Dragon Quest VII Reimagined on a real cartridge would be enough of an announcement for me. I’d ask for FFVII Remake as well, but the public statements don’t bode well for that so I’m just skipping it.
There are a lot of good launch lineups here, but Switch 2 wasn’t one of them. Not a single must-have game for me. I bought it for improvement to my Switch 1 games, and on that front it has not disappointed. But so far Bananza has been the only interesting exclusive.

This new game could probably do with less scanning, or a quicker way to do it instead of having to switch modes, but at this point I’m fine with it.
@jowy_sw I did not request a feature to hide games on the eshop (I rarely even open it). Thanks anyway. Also I will keep advocating for whatever opinion I have. You are welcome to advocate for yours.
Good job, Nintendo. Now let us actually hide titles that we don't want our kids to see on the home screen. When my kids were little they found the Diablo IV cover disturbing and I had no way of hiding it other than to delete it.
People say parents are responsible for controlling what their kids see and then want to take away the tools to do it. So weird.
I remember being in awe of SMB the first time I saw it. It seemed so much more advanced than the Atari games we had. I asked for an NES for my birthday and told my parents I would never need another game for it, haha.

Interested in Splatoon Raiders. Gave 3 houses a go recently and it wasn’t for me, so I’ll pass on FE, but glad for its fans to have a new game.

People say parents are responsible for controlling what their kids see and then want to take away the tools to do it. So weird.
Re: "I Skipped School To Play" - Hideo Kojima Cites Super Mario Bros As The Reason He Makes Games
I remember being in awe of SMB the first time I saw it. It seemed so much more advanced than the Atari games we had. I asked for an NES for my birthday and told my parents I would never need another game for it, haha.
