Such a good price in Japan for the Switch 2. Only 10,000 yen more than the PSOne sold for 30 years ago. I would expect if they got the same price we did that the response would be much more muted.
Wasn’t sure how much I wanted this one until the direct! Preordered from Costco because it’s cheaper there. This will be my first Switch 2 cartridge unless BOTW or TOTK get a discount before its release.
PSOne will always have a special place in my heart, it rekindled my love of gaming at a time I thought I might be done. But since then not much they’ve done has appealed to me. I thought the PS2 was weak graphically, only used PS3 for blu-ray and haven’t looked back. These days the only reason I can see to get PS5 is for western AAA games that don’t appeal to me. Now, if they had Nintendo games I would have one. Seems like pretty great hardware for the money. All I need are Nintendo heavy hitting titles, a few great Japanese 3rd party titles running well, and awesome indie games.
Loving playing Switch games on Switch 2. It may be time to finally open my copy of Disaster Report. Need to pick up a copy of Bakeru. Thanks for this list!
"When was the first time you played No Man's Sky?" Last night, haha. I think I'll get into it, but I really wish western developers would take the time to understand how Nintendo makes gyro controls great. The right stick is for large camera movements and the gyro controls are for precision. Just look at Splatoon and copy that system. I'm also kind of surprised that all the menus really seem to revolve around an on screen pointer. It's not a good experience but at least they could make it work with the joycon mouse. UI is an art form that so many developers haven't figured out.
I was really looking forward to the Switch Pro for many years. I just wanted my library to run that much better. Just a consistent 1080p/60 on every game. Switch 2 brought that and rekindled my interest in a lot of games I already have. The launch lineup isn’t really for me, but I have plenty to play and am looking forward to DK, Metroid, and the next Direct! So glad we are finally here!
Just got my cartridge right before I saw this. Looking forward to playing this game tonight. I don’t think either of these issues will affect me, but glad to hear they’re likely to sort it out quickly. Not being a big fan of racing games this will be the first thing I really sink my teeth into on Switch 2!
“While the Pro Controller didn't suffer in the same way” - My TWO drifting Pro controllers beg to differ. I don’t believe I’ve ever replaced a controller before going back to the NES so I don’t think it’s me.
The back paddles on the 8bitDo controllers don’t map to GL and GR. Not a major problem, but it would be really nice if it was an option. That way we could have per game and per using settings for the paddles without having to go back to the ultimate software every time. I submitted this idea to 8bitDo and they said they’d consider it. If you want to see this feature send them an email supporting the idea.
Back paddles are great. I’ve found a lot of gameplay uses for them previously. I’m hoping developers will start mapping suggested uses to them in their games because I often switch the commands around a few times before finding a good setup.
It’s no Daytona USA, but I was blown away playing the PS1 version at a Sony event prior to launch in Japan. I thought I was done with gaming but the Ridge Racer port and Toshinden convinced me to get a PS1. These days I find racing games too repetitive and Ridge Racer is probably one of the worst offenders there. Don’t see myself picking this up, but it seems promising that Arcade Archives is moving into this era of arcade games. Now if only they could find a way to do Gunbullet! Wonder if it would be fun with mouse control. Probably not.
The 8bitdo Ultimate Bluetooth has been my go to since my 2nd Switch Pro Controller developed drift. I was planning to hold out on the new controller, but with Costco selling them for $75 right now (and no guarantee they will keep stocking them for the long term) I grabbed one. Haven’t opened it yet. With all the positivity around it though I probably will. Having GL and GR supported on a per game per account basis will be nice.
The files were linked on reddit and I found the one I needed but by the time I got home all the links were dead. I emailed 8bitdo support almost a full day ago and haven't heard back, but apparently a lot of people DID get the new firmware from them so I wrote again.
I never bought an OLED so the screen looks great to me. All my games play better, which is what I had been hoping for from a Switch Pro a few years back, but with this I know bigger and better games are coming. So for now it's my Switch Pro and when the new heavy hitters come out it will finally be a Switch 2.
I tried unsuccessfully to get my Ultimate Bluetooth to connect. Updated the firmware to 1.10 but that didn’t help. I wrote to them. This article gives me hope it’ll come soon.
All the official Switch controllers I’ve had developed drift. Nintendo fixed the joycons but not the pro controllers. I’m not buying any more until I know they’re decently reliable. Unfortunately my 8bitdo Ultimate controller doesn’t work with Switch 2 right now. Hopefully it will get an update.
I had been playing Nier Automata on Switch and in one location with a waterfall in a building it would chug. On Switch 2 I couldn’t get it to stutter at all.
Always intended to pick this up on sale but never did. Grabbed one now. Didn't know it was lacking gyro controls before, that would have been a deal breaker so I'm glad I waited. The major retailers don't have it anymore. Wonder if it will get reprinted.
I loved my Switch Pro Controller but it finally developed drift. Then I got another and it developed drift. Now I have an 8bitdo Ultimate. I love everything about it other than the lack of HD rumble. I’m tempted to get a Switch 2 Pro Controller, but Nintendo hasn’t earned my trust enough for me to take a chance at the price they’re asking. I’d need to add on a warranty and then we are probably talking about $100 all in. I’ll wait. I’m tempted to try my hand at adding Hall effect sticks to my old pro controllers.
Recently replaced the swollen battery in my day 1 switch that rarely leaves its dock. Wish Nintendo had allowed the thing to work without a battery for the future. This old unit will move to my desk to make room for Switch 2 in the living room. Some day years from now it will get hacked.
If it hadn’t been for all the Switch Pro rumors I MIGHT have picked up a 2nd Switch to play Splatoon with my daughter, but now we will have that chance.
Put a screen protector on my day 1 switch and forgot about it. But kind of feel like I don’t really need one this time. The point of a screen protector is that if you get a scratch or crack you can remove it and the screen is fine. But in this case it seems likely the film will also come off. What then?
Mistake for sure. I don’t pay much attention to MS and Sony, but from what I’ve heard they’ve been abandoning exclusivity. Nintendo would be unwise to follow them with demand for their brand new console super high precisely because of their exclusive games. Selling another million copies of a Xenoblade game won’t make or break anything for them.
I’ve got 2 Switch Pro controllers with drift. I’m tempted to try and replace the sticks with Hall effect. It might be a fun project, but it’s more than I want to invest in something that might or might not work out. Now I mostly use an 8bitdo ultimate and am pretty happy with it other than the lack of hd rumble. I’m not buying a Switch 2 pro controller until I’m fairly confident the sticks are much higher quality.
@DiamondJim While that might be the case it may also be that smaller cartridges wouldn’t be any cheaper due to the new technology. Hopefully the price will come down as more cartridges are made.
It was a cool game, but didn’t have enough variety for me. I kept it for a few years and then sold it off. Glad it’s getting an update for people still playing it.
Just picked it up in a sale and waiting for it to arrive. Not sure it really needs it, but a switch 2 patch would always be welcome as I won’t be playing it right away.
I have a bad memory for entertainment. It’s a blessing really. I can replay games and only have vague memories of them. But when people start talking specifics about them I have no idea after a few years even though I beat them.
I go back and forth between movies and gaming. Switch 2 hype has put me into gaming mode. Funny thing is, similar to the previous commenter, I started up my WiiU and finished Windwaker HD. Then I brought out my 3DS and have been playing Majora’s Mask for the first time. I would’ve played them on Switch if they were there though.

A lot of interesting comments here. I find myself more interested in gaming news than actual gaming a lot of times. But in my very limited free time I go back and forth between movies and games. I’m in a gaming mood at the moment, which means I’ve put in about 3 hours of gaming in the past week. A lot of the Switch generation was spent building up a library of physical games on sale that I mostly didn’t have time to play. I’m getting switch 2 out of excitement for better performance (hopefully on some of those Switch 1 games I haven’t played yet) along with the next big Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Pikmin, etc.
