It was a cool game, but didn’t have enough variety for me. I kept it for a few years and then sold it off. Glad it’s getting an update for people still playing it.
Just picked it up in a sale and waiting for it to arrive. Not sure it really needs it, but a switch 2 patch would always be welcome as I won’t be playing it right away.
I have a bad memory for entertainment. It’s a blessing really. I can replay games and only have vague memories of them. But when people start talking specifics about them I have no idea after a few years even though I beat them.
I go back and forth between movies and gaming. Switch 2 hype has put me into gaming mode. Funny thing is, similar to the previous commenter, I started up my WiiU and finished Windwaker HD. Then I brought out my 3DS and have been playing Majora’s Mask for the first time. I would’ve played them on Switch if they were there though.
As others have said, what matters are the games. We are likely to see some amazing new experiences from the best developer in the world with hardware more powerful than anything they’ve developed on before. If I cared about 4K/120 with all the latest graphics tech then I would spend $2k+ on a gaming PC and upgrade it often. But then I wouldn’t have Nintendo’s latest games, so what’s the point?
Just in time for LRG to announce every Shantae game coming to Switch 2 just like they did with PS5. Glad I sold my copy of Pirate’s Curse while it was still worth something.
I’m not the biggest fan of western AAA games so I won’t be picking this up. I wish others would take this advice though, I was looking forward to checking out Elden Ring but it may as well not exist now.
A lot of interesting comments here. I find myself more interested in gaming news than actual gaming a lot of times. But in my very limited free time I go back and forth between movies and games. I’m in a gaming mood at the moment, which means I’ve put in about 3 hours of gaming in the past week. A lot of the Switch generation was spent building up a library of physical games on sale that I mostly didn’t have time to play. I’m getting switch 2 out of excitement for better performance (hopefully on some of those Switch 1 games I haven’t played yet) along with the next big Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Pikmin, etc.
With prices going up and fewer games actually on cartridge I will be slowing WAY down on purchases. I’m still open to sales, but if it isn’t on the cartridge I probably won’t buy. Who knows if the servers will even be up when I get around to playing?
“people expect games that are ever more ambitious and therefore expensive to develop”
Do they though? Does every game need to be some massive AAA game? Do we even really need more than a couple of those a year? The indie game scene is hot, and they don’t generally have crazy budgets. Maybe “get gud” at making games instead of pushing slightly better graphics over gameplay. I was listening to Digital Foundry talk about path tracing in the new Doom game and how you really have to look closely to see the difference between that and the ray tracing version. How much development cost is going into that and how many more sales will it lead to?
In a way this higher pricing will really make most gamers think twice about which games they REALLY want to own. Especially when they’re digital and can’t be resold.
They really need to hide games above the allowed rating level when parental controls are active. Not much of an issue for me anymore, but when my kids were younger some of the title images were a bit much for little kids. Not 100% sure anymore but I think titles like Doom and Diablo were the ones I didn’t really want to have front and center when they turned on the console due to scary looking demons. It would be pretty simple just to hide them and then show them when the parental controls are disabled.
Zelda will probably always be number one. I’m actually finishing up Windwaker HD on WiiU at the moment. I was really happy when they announced we’d get a new Zelda of some type every year. It sucks that the Warriors games are part of that rotation, especially after the mediocre Echoes of Wisdom. Hopefully next year we will get something cool. Not expecting a new mainline entry for a few more years, but anything is better than a Warriors game.
Not worth it. Plus the Switch 2 will mark the first time we’ve had two Switches in the house so maybe we can play some Splatoon together.
My battery expanded at one point and caused some damage to the backplate. I eventually opened the Switch and replaced it, but the process was not easy and some screws got stripped and didn’t get put back. Some of the work would definitely be noticed and I’d get even less than $125. Maybe enough for a new pro controller if I was lucky. I’d rather keep it around and one day use it as a replacement for my PSP as a retro gaming machine.
I think part of the record interest in Japan has to do with the price. 50,000 yen seems paltry. I haven’t been there for a long time, but when I bought my original PlayStation in Tokyo in ‘94 it was 40,000 yen.
@Shade_Koopa Reality shows that Nintendo digital games are NOT $5 to $15 cheaper. You have now changed your argument to some people might feel bad if others get a better deal. I fail to see the relevance. It seems like you just want to argue. As I said, enjoy your digital games.
@Shade_Koopa My experience is that digital games on the Nintendo eshop don’t get sales as low as physical games. Just look at Deku Deals. Checking a recent game DK Returns lowest price physical $39.99, digital $52.99. Echoes of Wisdom - Physical $34.99, digital $53.99. That’s what happens when you have a monopoly end to end.
Didn’t answer the last question, I got the bundle but not because that’s what I was trying for. It’s just the one that came through after fighting with Target, Walmart, and finally Best Buy.
@Shade_Koopa Totally understand that digital games are better for you. Only taking issue with the idea that others should move on. When gaming truly goes all digital my thought is that I’ll likely be playing my backlog of physical games mostly. But there are a handful of Nintendo series that are question marks. I hope that time is still at least a generation away.
Anyone who has read a post of mine knows that I don’t really value digital games. With Nintendo seemingly leaning into digital though a future Steam Deck 2 is looking like a possibility for me. Their twice a year sales often result in digital game prices that even I consider worthwhile (in the single digits is about what they’re worth to me). Only Zelda, Mario, Metroid and Pikmin are series I would really considering paying higher prices for digitally.
For now I’ve got a Switch 2 preorder and am hoping the key card backlash is going to slow down the all digital apocalypse for a bit.
@Misima It’s hard to say. I think most people will want Mario Kart for a discount and don’t care it’s digital, but Nintendo likely made most of the systems bundles. It’s too bad they didn’t make 1 box and offer MK World as an add on for $50 when you first boot up or something. But maybe I’ll get lucky and it’ll be a download code I can resell.
@Shade_Koopa Enjoy your digital downloads. Some of us don’t worry about those “benefits” but find digital lacking in many ways. To me if something isn’t on physical media it has very little value. If I buy a game, movie, etc digitally I’m very unlikely to use it, so I stopped a long time ago. For a time I thought it was just me, but I’ve brought it up to people and found some others feel this way as well.
@kevmauldin I was in the Best Buy line on my computer trying for the system only. I pulled up the app on my phone and went for the bundle. The app came through, but my computer never did. I got stuck with Mario Kart, but that’s better than not getting a system. I definitely recommend using the app when they restock.
It makes it easy on this physical collector. Easy to skip a lot of game purchases. I hope these go down in flames so badly that more publishers follow CD Project Red’s lead.
To me these key cards are better than all digital because of resale ability, but not good enough.
@Jester676 I don’t think I’ll be waiting very long. I know the narrative is Nintendo games don’t go on sale, but that’s not my experience. Just got Mario vs Donkey Kong for $29.99. Got Echoes of Wisdom for $34.99. I could go on, but you get the idea.
Recently replaced my 2006 Samsung 1080p TV. After the direct I checked my new HiSense set for specs. 144Hz, VRR, I’m all set! Hopefully I won’t have to manually enable those features every time though.
Game publishers want to move to all digital for better profit margins and lack of competition through resale of used games. I would think they have researched this and have numbers showing it benefits them overall, but I can’t help wondering if it really will offset the money from collectors. Does anyone collect digital games? I highly doubt it. Digital games are never out of stock or out of print, so there isn’t any urgency to picking them up. I have MANY unopened physical games I got for good deals waiting in my backlog, but I’m not going to do that with digital games. So instead of owning hundreds of games like I do with Switch, in an all digital future I see myself owning fewer than 20. Not sure that math works well for publishers. Sales of new and used software won’t automatically become a +1 for digital. Perhaps this is part of why the industry is down overall (not the entire problem, but a part of it). Like Hollywood shooting itself in the foot and completely blowing up a working business model with streaming.
I'm not a Mario Kart fan, but this game looks jam packed. Normally I would give it a shot, but at the higher price it isn't worth it for me. I will likely get the physical version on sale some day, play it for a few months, and then sell it just like MK8 Deluxe. But I think a lot of people are going to be sinking hundreds of hours into this. Cool for the fans!
@progx What I really want is a complete physical copy of my favorite game that I can play in perpetuity. I’m not going to upgrade every Switch game to Switch 2 physical, but Zelda is my all time favorite. Also I don’t trust SD cards. It seems like every time I go back to a game I haven’t played in a while the data is corrupt and must be downloaded again. I even had Samsung replace my SD card because of the issue. Hopefully the new cards will be better.
Time to sell my old Zelda carts. I bought them day 1 and as they are my favorite games I wanted to have versions with all the updates. Not in a rush to replay them now though so I’ll wait for these new ones to go on sale.
The Zelda updates are my most wanted games, but not for the prices they’re asking, and only if they’re confirmed to be complete on the cartridge (the DLC is less important).
I’m ok with the console price even though it was much higher than I expected. I’m actually ok with the game prices as well, IF Nintendo intends to have more markdowns. From their perspective why not take advantage of the people who just can’t wait and are willing to pay more? Then after a few months offer more reasonable sale pricing or even have a player’s choice line again? Whether it’s their intention or not I think they’ll be forced into more markdowns because I don’t think most games will have a lot of sales momentum at those higher prices.
Launch day isn’t really the determining factor for me. I’d say the key is more what it had in its first calendar year because the 4th quarter is key for any system (although they’ve often launched in the 4th quarter). Coming into its first Christmas Switch was stacked with amazing games. It remains to be seen whether its successor can muster that kind of lineup. I’d say it’s likely to be a pretty great lineup for this year despite the fact that not much of it appeals to me yet.Hopefully Metroid is going to fill that Zelda void.
@tektite_captain At what point do retailers just drop the system? Usually console hardware doesn’t have a big profit margin, but game sales make up for it. TBH I hope this happens. If WalMart alone decided to drop the system Nintendo would probably think twice about split pricing.
Racing games aren’t for me. I might enjoy a few races but doing the same thing over and over gets boring quickly. I played the original Kart when it was new. Meh. Took a chance on MK Wii. Meh. Had MK8 and sold it. I’d be willing to give this one a shot and see if the open world/exploration angle can make it fun, but they’ve priced me out of giving it a chance. DK is a maybe. The Country games were just ok, so I’m happy they’re trying something new. It’ll depend on reviews and sale pricing, maybe a demo.
Picked up Wind Waker when I got my WiiU in 2019. Skipped Twilight Princess because it didn't have the motion controls, but now I wish I had picked it up. Still prefer the motion controls though.
I only bought one Switch and it was day 1. I’ve been ready for a more powerful version for years and even saved up enough Best Buy credit to pay for more than half of it. I’m going to preorder, but mostly for the improved performance of Switch 1 games and the promise of future titles I will want. With very few true physical games I’m going to be very choosy about what Switch 2 games I buy and when. Plus my daughter has rediscovered her love of Splatoon 3 and having 2 systems will let us play together.
I have 2 bad Switch 1 pro controllers (that they want too much money to repair) and both sets of Joy-Con I have were repaired. I’m not buying a new Nintendo controller until we know they’re going to be more durable. For now I have the 8bitdo Pro 2 controller that’s been working well. I also have an extended warranty on it just in case.
This is news? As soon as I saw the boxes I thought it was clear what they were. I’m holding out on these for that reason. Maybe we will eventually get a complete release on a Switch 2 cart for some of these just like BOTW got a complete edition including DLC in Japan at one point.

I’m not buying a new Nintendo controller until we know they’re going to be more durable. For now I have the 8bitdo Pro 2 controller that’s been working well. I also have an extended warranty on it just in case.
Re: 'Switch 2 Editions' Are Supposedly A Switch Game Card And Download Code For The Upgrade Pack
This is news? As soon as I saw the boxes I thought it was clear what they were. I’m holding out on these for that reason. Maybe we will eventually get a complete release on a Switch 2 cart for some of these just like BOTW got a complete edition including DLC in Japan at one point.
