Re: Poll: What Switch Game Could You Not Live Without?

Joekun

So many great games, but one masterpiece that stands above every other game ever made.

Interesting that despite all the hope online for Echoes of Wisdom when it was announced, not a single person has voted for it. That game might be the biggest disappointment of the generation. Not because it’s bad, but because it just can’t live up to the series.

Re: Talking Point: What We Expect From The Switch 2 Direct

Joekun

Don’t care about Mario Kart (I’ve tried enough times). Improvement to switch 1 games will be enough for me to be excited because we know Nintendo games WILL come, but Mario and Zelda are my thing. New Mario and a Zelda remaster would be enough to start things off. Also interested in FF7 remake, maybe Elden Ring. Let’s go!

Re: Nintendo "Establishing Ways To Respond" To U.S. Tariffs, Says Furukawa

Joekun

Taxes are taxes we pay them one way or another. I would prefer to tax goods over income because when you tax something you get less of it. If we get tariffs along with real income tax reform it's likely to lead to good things. Meanwhile some people will proclaim the sky is falling because their preferred political team isn't the one in power. They very likely downplayed tax increases when their "team" enacted them. Strange world we live in.

Re: Opinion: Scrapping Gold Points Makes Sense For Nintendo, But It's A Bitter Pill For Loyal Fans

Joekun

All things being equal I buy my games from Best Buy. I get 5% back from my Best Buy credit card plus 1% gold points (assuming I paid full price, which is rare, so I'm actually getting more than 1%). Not to mention I regularly get 5% back when I use that card on groceries so the points pile up quickly and I get free games. Overall I think that buying digital is more expensive than buying physical, at least where I am in the U.S. That's to be expected since digital only has one seller, Nintendo. With Physical there is still some competition between Amazon, Best Buy, Target, Wal Mart, etc.

I'm not looking forward to an all digital future and TBH when it happens I will be buying A LOT fewer games. Maybe it's just me, but I'm a lot less likely to even play a digital game. It has to be truly special for me to even remember it exists on my SD Card. Maybe it's a generational thing, but in my mind digital goods have little to no value. I'm not the only one though, look at the prices on mobile app stores, or the sales on Steam. Now if we saw eShop prices like that it would be a different story, but $70? If it's not an absolute top tier Nintendo title no thanks.

Re: Poll: Is It Finally Time For Castlevania To Rise Again?

Joekun

Bloodstained was great, anything in that vain would be welcome. Modern 3D games are usually just an attempt at an interactive movie. I’m not interested in that at all. So unless they’ve got some kind of BOTW level idea for a 3D game I say go back to what worked and give it some modern polish.

Re: Opinion: With Forecasts Slashed (Again), Absolutely Everyone's Antsy For Switch 2 ASAP

Joekun

At the end of 2023 I would’ve pegged a 2024 Switch 2 release date as a 100% certainty. 8 years is an awfully long run without a spec bump. It would’ve been more tolerable if we got a Switch Pro back in 2021. I love the Switch, but I don’t enjoy playing a new game like Echoes of Wisdom riddled with slowdown.

I have more than enough software for Switch. I really want a little performance increase with the backwards compatibility of Switch 2 (yeah, I know). I’m expecting new games to start at $70 and I’m going to be much more selective with game purchases. But bring it on already. My body is ready.

Re: Switch 2 Supply Chain Figures Reportedly Revealed Ahead Of 2025 Launch

Joekun

I'm in for one. By the time it comes out I'll have enough Best Buy credit to pay for it anyway. My day 1 Switch is still going. I replaced the battery recently. I know there will be plenty of Nintendo software that I will want this year and the last two generations haven't had meaningful discounts on hardware that make it worth it to wait. I am hoping that it will give Switch 1 games a boost enough to solve frame rate issues. Also hoping that Metroid Prime 4 will be better on the new hardware.

Re: Best Ys Games Of All Time - Switch And Nintendo Systems

Joekun

TG-16 Ys 1&2 is my all time favorite. Played it through many times back in the day. Never liked Wanderers. Played Mask of the Sun and Dawn of Ys some when they were new, but don’t remember much about them. 30 years ago I never would have thought this series would have as many fans in English speaking countries as it does now.

Re: Round Up: The Reviews Are In For The Legend Of Zelda: Echoes Of Wisdom

Joekun

@cedarhyped That’s cool. I don’t buy digital so vouchers don’t really help me. I see deals from Wario64 constantly on those Mario titles, and I got Mario Wonder for $30 last November or December in a QVC deal I saw from him. I guess I just assumed that they had been more widely discounted. BTW, Echoes has already been $51.99 on Woot, but I held off.

Re: Round Up: The Reviews Are In For The Legend Of Zelda: Echoes Of Wisdom

Joekun

@cedarhyped I’m not sure about 2 months, but Mario Wonder, Mario RPG, etc got discounts pretty quickly. A few years ago I would have agreed with you, but I expect this game will sell ok, not amazing and get discounted. I could be wrong. Normally any actual Zelda game (not Warriors stuff) would be a day one for me, but I’m just not sold on this new mechanic and I’m willing to wait it out.

Re: Round Up: The Previews Are In For The Legend Of Zelda: Echoes Of Wisdom

Joekun

Zelda is my favorite game series and one of my few day one purchases. This one hasn’t ever made me excited to play it, and the fact that none of the gaming press that I saw expressed anything but excitement makes me write off their impressions. I’ll definitely be playing this game for myself, but I’m waiting for a sale. Conjuring objects just doesn’t sound like a fun game mechanic. Hope I’m very wrong.

Re: Talking Point: Would $499 Be Too Much For 'Switch 2'?

Joekun

If Nintendo follows what they’ve done the past 2 generations they’ll pick a price and stick with it for the entire generation. I think it’ll be $349 or $399. They’ll make a profit on it from day one, but that margin will increase over the life of the console.

Would I pay $499? Yes. I would hope that price would be because it’s a powerful machine, but the problem for me is I’m a Nintendo gamer and I want to play Nintendo games. Since they don’t do price drops anymore there really isn’t a reason for me to hold out. Is it too much? Yes. Can I afford it? Yes.

Games on the other hand go on sale. And I’m perfectly content to wait for good deals.

Re: Poll: Are You Ready To Move On From The Switch?

Joekun

I’ve been ready to move on for more than a year. Not that I don’t use my Switch, but my game purchases really, really slowed down. I bought way too many new and classic RPGs this generation that I’ll probably never start due to their length and my lack of time. At this point I’m culling and selling off quite a few games, although there are probably 150 or 200 that I’ll keep going forward. A much more massive library of games than I’ve ever built for any system before. But I want a new system powerful enough to play the types of games we have been getting without issues. Hopefully it will play current games a bit better too.
