Re: The FTC Doesn't Seem To Think Switch Is A Serious PlayStation & Xbox Competitor

Joekun

There was a time when I thought I was done with gaming. I tried the PS2 and wasn’t impressed, so I got an OG XBox and played a few games. Eventually I hacked it and played Ocarina of Time (which I had missed due to getting rid of my N64 too early). It was buggy but I loved the game so I bought a GameCube with the Zelda pack in disc. What I discovered is that I really just like Nintendo games. If Nintendo suddenly disappeared I probably wouldn’t buy any games. What the other consoles do doesn’t appeal to me enough to invest in them.

Re: Poll: So, Will You Be Getting The Legend Of Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom?

Joekun

My Best Buy order has said “Preparing for Pickup Today” for several days and it is absolute torture. I’ve avoided all the new videos this year except one viewing of the final trailer. Very excited for the newest entry in my favorite series! Finally a new Nintendo game for me (and a new Pikmin coming too)! Wish they would release new 2D Zelda games in between the 3D releases to give me my fix more often

Re: Poll: Six Years On, Which Was Nintendo Switch's Best Year So Far?

Joekun

I’m glad some people were happy with what they got in 2022, but it was completely devoid of traditional Nintendo franchises. I’m not a Pokémon fan, find Kirby games too simple, and don’t enjoy racing games. Played Splatoon 2 to death, but 3 really brings nothing new to the table to pull me back in. Xenoblade is alright though, I’ll grab 3 on sale at some point. 2022 really had zero for me from Nintendo. It was probably the switch’s worst year.

Re: Scalpers Set Their Sights On Metroid Prime Remastered Physical Release

Joekun

@DogDetective There are some games that give me motion sickness, but it isn’t a given thing. For some reason Lego Star Wars did (but that seems to be a common issue when I look online). Games like Splatoon are just fine though. I thought MPR would have a dual stick/gyro option like Splatoon, but it doesn’t. I think it’s the control scheme, but I can’t be sure of that.

Re: Scalpers Set Their Sights On Metroid Prime Remastered Physical Release

Joekun

@DogDetective Yes. I preordered it right away after I saw the direct. I always do in store pickup because I live a few blocks from a Best Buy. I wonder if the options vary by location. Maybe your store was already out of their allocation when you ordered. Hope you get it soon. Sadly after playing about 2 hours on Wednesday I had motion sickness all day yesterday. Not sure I’m going to be able to play anymore…

Re: Video: Digital Foundry's Technical Analysis Of Metroid Prime Remastered

Joekun

I can’t wait for this! Won’t be buying it digitally though as that goes against every fiber of my being. February 22nd can’t come soon enough. Although now that I see it’s sold out and Best Buy is listing it as unknown release date on my order page I’m getting a little nervous.

I believe we will be seeing 2 and 3 remasters later this year leading up to the release of Prime 4 next year.

Re: Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom Temporarily Listed On Nintendo Website For $70 USD

Joekun

TBH the current $66+ (with tax) price is beyond what I’m willing to pay for a game. Zelda and Metroid are the exceptions. Luckily I preordered Prime 4 years ago at a discount, and TOtK when it first popped up at $60. I’d still get my money’s worth out of those two titles at nearly $80 (as it would be with tax), but that’s really starting to stretch it.

Re: Soapbox: If You Thought Last Year Was "Sad" For Switch, 2023 Might Be Hard To Handle

Joekun

I don’t care what the other consoles are doing, only have a Switch. 2022 didn’t see a single exciting Nintendo release for me. I don’t care for Pokémon at all. I tried Arceus though and it wasn’t for me. Tactics games are not my thing either. I enjoyed and beat Xenoblade DE a few years ago, but have tried to start 2 several times and just can’t get into it, so haven’t bothered with 3. I LOVED Splatoon 2, but 3 just seems like more of the same so I passed. Kirby looked great, but the demo didn’t do anything for me. Yeah, it has been a slow year. Currently playing Persona 5 thanks to the 50% off sales it has seen. It took a lot of hours to get into it, but enjoying it now. Exploring Tokyo in the game really takes me back to my high school days in Japan, lol.

2023 will be great for Zelda alone, but Pikmin is right up there too.

Re: Rumour: Switch Pro Was Real But Got Cancelled, Claims Digital Foundry

Joekun

If, as some suggest, the next console is not a hybrid but a new innovation then I think the Switch will get a spec bump and remain in the lineup. Otherwise they would be abandoning a market they created. Personally I don’t see them going in a different direction. I think we will see a Switch 2 with some new innovation.

Re: Best Of 2022: Why Can't Nintendo Offer Both Virtual Console And Switch Online?

Joekun

I would think a few physical limited time retro collections from Nintendo would do really well. Just a cartridge of all the games from the NES Classic and another with all the games from the SNES Classic would be instant buys for me. If the 3rd party rights are too difficult then just do one cartridge with all the Nintendo games from both. Do I want more than that? Yeah, but that would be a great start.

At some point people will have subscription fatigue and then most companies are going to have to pivot quickly.

Re: Bayonetta's OG Voice Actor Asks Fans To "Boycott" Third Game After PlatinumGames Wage Fallout

Joekun

I hope Platinum is going to give their side of this, because that’s pretty outrageous.

People in general have a really skewed view of what being a good actor actually requires. It’s hard work. The entertainment industry is super cut throat, and definitely not a great way to have a career. Everybody wants your job, and is willing to work for peanuts to get their foot in the door. It’s a freelance job, so you’re not getting benefits, and on top of that you have to pay self employment taxes if you’re in the U.S. After taxes that $4k wouldn’t even cover 1 month’s rent in Los Angeles for example.

I once saw a documentary where Clint Eastwood said you shouldn’t get into the industry unless you just wouldn’t be happy doing anything else. It’s a sad truth.

Re: Fisti-Fluffs Publisher 'Rogue Games' Moves To A Four-Day Work Week

Joekun

@burninmylight My company has software that tracks how much activity you engage in on your computer. If there is no input from the keyboard or mouse in a given 10 second period, that counts as inactivity. You are required to maintain an 85% activity rate. It burns you out, but I can definitely say that I spend most of my work hours making sure there is input on the computer.

Re: Random: People Are Getting Pretty Worried About Splatoon 3

Joekun

I put 150+ hours into Splatoon 2 (which is a lot for me). Had a really good time, but eventually moved on. Splatoon 3 hasn’t shown me anything that makes me want to pay for another go. Plus my online subscription will expire in a few months at which point the game won’t get any use unless I renew. Probably not going to do that.
