My monkey brain is adverse to change as I've been working through my backlog in a very particular way... However, I admit this is a really solid change.
The headline is confusing, I was excited as I thought a filter was being added on the eShop. it ought to be more specific that you can only hide the unsavoury games on your Home Screen. This could still be useful to some but I don't BUY those games in the first place and I don't care if people see I bought Vroom in the Night Sky.
I like the new/og DK design, but the thing I find funniest is that they're only gonna be able to use the expensive Universal Studios costume for like a year before commissioning a new one. I guess maybe that's what Nintendo's using all the extra Switch 2 cash for 😭😭😭
I'm keeping my switch. Too many games (like Doom Eternal) are not yet running without issues on Switch 2. I'm gonna be using the Digital Game Card feature a LOT.
Lmao I gave up and made an exception on my Walmart boycott for a day. I hope Walmart understand's we're not cool now, l I just really want my big glowy rectangle.
Split Fiction is crazy large which is no surprise given how much space It Takes Two is eating up on my PS5. I feel like I only play one massive game at a time though and a lot of indies/older games in between so I'm not worried I'll have a ton of issues, but let's hope micro sd express cards expand and drop in price as fast as their predecessor.
Okay, this isn't too dissimilar to what already happens when I put The Last of Us Part 2 in my PS5. It knows I've purchased the remaster so it will show that in place of the ps4 version now. However I can still use the disc on my PS4.
I am so happy one person isn't in charge of all games. I've been playing vast amounts of games these past 2 years and my favorite thing is going into each new game wondering how different it will feel to control. Sometimes having fall damage is a big factor in tension for certain situations. sometimes it's fun to not have it as well.
I already love how Pro Controllers feel, how do you improve on my favorite controller of all time, I'm genuinely excited to find out.
I heard that the reason they aren't hall effect is that, ironically, magnets can cause hall effect sticks to suffer from drift. Forgot where I heard that, but worth looking into
The backlash to game key cards I feel are a result of Nintendo gamers being mostly lucky to usually have the full game on the cart, while Playstation users have had to deal with discs forcing downloads for three generations now. I still remember the backlash when Metal Gear Solid 4 or GTA5 required a hefty download on PS3, and unfortunately now almost every PS5 game acts like a game key card. It's just the other companies were not super transparent about it so it kinda got swept under the rug.
I suppose first thing I'll do is yank on em a little just to test. I exclusively play my switch in docked and tabletop mode because of how annoying the disconnection is.
@RogerFederer Agreed, it looks pretty gorgeous. The art style looks a bit like a Suda51 influence, and character models look like they'd be more distinct (esp when viewed at a distance) than something like Concord. They may have come pretty late to the hero shooter genre, but we'll see.
I understand what he's saying and I feel his concern is valid, as Switch 1 was the final console spearheaded by Mr. Iwata. I hope his fear is unfounded and I'm optimistic.
This is something I think about so little despite switching between PS5 and Switch often. I understand its benefits but I'm not sure it's ever gotten in the way of enjoying a game. I like the haptic triggers on PS5 yet I like how snug and comfy the pro controller is.
@AstroTheGamosian If a conspiracy theory starts because of basic pattern recognition, it's probably nothing to worry about. It's the same meme as people seeing the illuminati every time they see a pyramid back in like 2013.
I just finished the final level of Sigil II on the original Switch DOOM port. It's the only level I needed Godmode for. This map pack was otherwise phenomenal.
Kit and Krysta have been such a source of comfort and a good insight into the innards of Nintendo this past week. They have such good chemistry which I never expected from people forced to hang out for their job. I like how honest they are as well
@Bizzyb agreed, the upside of game key cards is that they can be purchased pre-owned. If a game-key is cheaper on Ebay than a digital copy, it's still gonna work like a game card
I called it. I had a vision ( so to speak) yesterday that I was gonna wake up to this exact article on NintendoLife soon. Thanks for not letting my dreams be dreams
I'm happy there are no achievements, as my favorite part about playing on Switch is not having to worry how I'm playing or what difficulty I'm on, if I qualify for certain achievements, etc. My goal is hyper-focused on seeing the credits. I'm okay with this but I know other people like them. I'm being a tad selfish with this preference.
@Pat_trick How long have you been following Nintendo? If you've time traveled from 2001, I'm really sorry to tell you they aren't necessarily chasing performance anymore. Especially with these handhelds that happen to be a flagship console. Chin up, this one isn't going to get "Dead Rising: Chop Til You Drop"-level downgrades.
And since gaming is a hobby and not a necessity, it's always an option to skip. Vote with your wallet. You don't like it, don't buy it. Just know if it matched up with the PS5 we'd probably be paying something more like $700 (I don't like that reality but we're living in a h*llscape and companies don't like losing money.)
@Pat_trick anyone who expects or even cares for a handheld console to match up to a home console twelve times its size and at similar price points probably isn't in the target demographic for a traditional handheld console anyway. You're gonna have to pay quite a lot more for a handheld PC matching the PS5, if that's what you care about. No shade, I genuinely think you should pay more and get what you want but that's not what everyone cares about.
Oh my god yall the human brain just melts down the moment we start attaching labels to things. Hot dogs qualify as sandwiches but if I pay for a sandwich and you hand me a hot dog, I'll be pretty sad. If your friend says "let's play an FPS" and you pull out Metroid Prime Hunters and a couple of DSes they may look at you funny, but it's still technically what they asked for. There's a lot more nuance to what things are that these labels are not really concrete enough to have semantic debates over. I believe Metroid Prime is an FPS, Action-Adventure, and Platformer. I believe Dead Space is a TPS, and Horror game. I believe someone who plays Wii Fit every day is a gamer. If you don't believe in those labels, totally chill. As long as your use of labels doesn't hurt other people, use context clues. Feel free to call your hot dog a sandwich, while understanding that if someone says "I want a sandwich," they're probably picturing something on square bread with condiments, greens and a protein.
Of course it has! I'm very excited to see how we might travel to this one. Perhaps a spaceport involving a kart transformation into a rocket ship? I'd better not dream too much 🤤
Yep, I have PS5 but this confirms to me that we've reached a plateau in terms of what more power will do. Ray tracing is super cool and Ryu's facial hair is tinier, but I don't see a reality in which games "just can't be done" on Switch 2 in the coming years, and I don't see me really holding off on Switch 2 versions to get a more immersive, more playable experience on PS5 anymore. This is exciting, though perhaps if I find games far cheaper on PS5 that may be the deciding factor.
@Gryffin I saw gameplay of Cyberpunk/Hogwarts from the event and as I'm currently playing Hogwarts on Switch 1, you could have told me those were the PS5 games and maybe the only way I'd be able to tell otherwise would be characters' hair and beards. Peeformance was solid and one of CP2077's modes locks it at 40fps. Take that how you will, though if you play games mostly docked I'd also definitely go for PS5. No reason to miss out on the ray tracing and advanced hair physics if you don't have to.
Idk but I just want my $20-indie box with horror games that don't look like butt anymore. I played In Sound Mind and at times I swore I was playing a PS1 tribute.
@Rykdrew I know during the treehouse presentation you can see (I believe greyed out) icons for coin battle and balloon battle. That made me very happy to see.
I have a huge backlog of games on Switch I'm working on, all I truly want for Switch 2 games is Mary Car World and Cyborg Gunk 2017. Haven't played my copy of Tears yet so probably finally dip into that with the NSO upgrade, then wait like 2 years for all the big third parties to go on sale.
@BTB20 Hasn't stopped me from trading with reddit randos on Animal Crossing back on Wii. But yea, it's still gonna be a short leash which I'm okay with 🫶
Okay I'm shocked Arlo was right about the open world. That is a pleasant surprise and traveling between the grand prix tracks instead of sitting through load screens sounds a lot more fun to me.
It still looks pretty, and I have an LCD TV which looks rather nice. I've noticed how great Metro games look on OLED, so I'll miss that but it's to be expected.

Re: Cyberpunk 2077 On Switch 2 Is "Best Way" To Play Handheld Says CD Projekt Red
Yoooo motion controls? That's actually so silly and fun. Reminds me of when Skyrim went a lil goofy at Switch launch.

I think it's safe to say this rumor is finally confirmed lmao. Thanks for the heads up y'all.
