Apparently this game was created by the team who worked on Resident Evil Revelations back on 3DS. As someone who's been following Nintendo news since forever, RE7 felt a bit like watching your child nail a job interview. Like, we saw potential in them reviving true survival horror RE back then, and the buggers went and did it. I forever love RE7.
Looks pretty alright here. I bought it for PS5 on launch and just never finished it-had to delete it to make room for MGS5... Maybe once I've gotten Cyberpunk outta the way I'll finally finish it here. I'm not concerned about fidelity or anything.
I've played it on PSVR2. It's a solid, if budget, Pool Rooms game. My vote is still on playing in VR, but if you're a fan of liminal spaces you can't do much better than Pools.
@Altaria_97 Yep, you described my experience with Switch 1 vs the WiiU. A lot more expendable income way back when I was living with my parents. Switch, I had to be more careful with my funds and I still haven't bought some games I REALLY cared about.
I remember playing Space Cadet Adventures all the way through using a GB Game Genie... It was a really bad game but it looked good. If you want another game that's surely going to be discontinued on the eShop go for it but I'm so okay skipping this.
@Vonsparrow I checked your comment history. You spend more of your life worrying about this game than most people have playing it. After reading through your comments, my suspicions were confirmed; you don't like it because there is a character depicting a real black samurai who genuinely existed. Don't bother replying because I've ignored you.
@MoldyPasta Not too much a Metroidvania player (Except for Metroid itself), I always get lost and it gets super frustrating but I love the linear 3D action games a LOT. If it makes me feel like a badass ninja I'm all about that.
I've been wanting to play this game. I never liked Dark Souls games because of how slow they are, and I think this genre might have something to do with it. Metal Gear Rising and Bayonetta have spoiled me. They've got the tough, biblically large boss fights, stylish quick movement, and if you die you start right at the beginning of the last fight. If it comes to Switch 2 before I cave and pick it up on PS5 I'll buy it there.
@FredBiletnikoff I thought nobody would ever ask. Avoiding spoilers, I got a PS3 in 2012 just to play MGS4. Even if I never got The Last of Us, Metal Gear Rising or Bioshock Infinite it would have been worth it. You have to play the others first. The game's got callbacks and appearances from every other game in the series, one in particular that made my jaw drop.
There is so much detail and emergent gameplay here that you could play the game ten different times with different strategies and still see new animations, hear new voice clips, and notice new tiny details in the environments.
Speaking of tiny, a lot of things are caused by nanomachines in this game and you kinda have to suspend disbelief the same way you do in something like Star Wars with The Force.
Peace Walker is amazing too. I hear it was originally supposed to be called MGS5 but it wasn't because it was only on the PSP. I mostly wanted to gush about MGS4 but this one is gonna have online campaign co-op which I am STOKED for.
@Dman10 Agreed. People may not realize you can go buy a 3DS right now, log into your account and re-download every digital game you purchased; same thing on Wii. We'll all have more pressing matters to attend to in 30 years anyway. Cars to replace, causes to fight for... There's people you're going to want to spend time with. Are there people in your life who may not have 30 years left? Let's just play Metal Gear right now. Enjoy what was once THE most Kojima game before Death Stranding. I'm really excited for more people to play my favorite Metal Gear.
I am SO excited to play my favorite MGS game without being forced to brandish my PS3. You heard me; my favorite. MGSV was great but the move to open world, sandbox gameplay marked the end of the linear narrative experience I fell in love with. This also is a perfect parallel to my feelings on newer Zelda games.
@NeonPizza Makes sense; my sis and I didn't play Goemon for the story. We played it for the cool bosses, incredible ost, fun side content, and sense of accomplishment. I wonder how many of them have that, I'm pretty forgiving with games though and I have a lot of patience.
@Krisi Nice, thanks for the overviews. I do have a retro mindset, having grown up on SNES, GB, and browser-based NES emulators. I can overlook some difficulty spikes because of save states, I'm no purist or anything. Most importantly, as long as the music is heat I'm all in.
I'd be getting the game for PS5 if it were VR but until that happens (probably not) I'm gonna check it out on Switch cuz I've always liked cute handheld versions of big-girl games... Especially when they stand up to scrutiny.
@NeonPizza Woah, I don't like turn-based games either. As a casual outsider, how many of these are turn-based? I may be mistaken, but after a bit of research a lot of these I believed to be real-time, Zelda: Link To The Past-style combat.
Aww... Goemon, or as we knew it, Mystical Ninja, is my childhood. I feel it will never get the notoriety it deserves from Konami here in the states. I remember thinking it was some lone forgotten game on SNES but one day finding out there was a new game on DS at the time that we were never privvy to. The side content in Mystical Ninja put GTA3 to shame, and all of it playable co-op. I'd die for an official translation.
@Stufffix Surprisingly as far as I know it's not a remake, but if Joel was not upset by its shift to being a co-op spinoff I'm sure he'd like it. I just don't know enough about Joel to know if he covers Nintendo Directs
Hearing Vinny Vinesauce die inside while watching this was heartbreaking. He's right, all they needed to do was make a boomer shooter. They could have made it co-op still.... I guess if this is Turok's Banjo Kazooie Nuts N Bolts at least it could still have a cult following.
It's going to be so cute to see this game in my hands soon. Bought it day one for PS4 and never finished it cuz I had to delete it to make space for god-knows-what so maybe having it portably is my chance to crack away at it.
This trailer skyrocketed my interest in this game from "ehhh" to "must-play." My partner and I are working on Split Fiction so it's cool to already have something lined up for when we finish it
The whole time I saw this I was whispering "please tell me this is switch one" lmao I know it's open world with pretty complex crafting but it was a little silly to see drawbacks this intense already. Hopefully it makes up for it in FPS or this comment section will go crazy
@rjejr Agreed; I've played a decent amount of the games I'd like to play on PS5, and being older games they go on sale quite often. Main selling point for Switch 2 is if it's a longer game I'll bring it to work and do some grinding on off-time or play it on the treadmill like I do with Yakuza. Otherwise, some of these games are best experienced on the big screen anyway.
I'm surprised how quickly we went from accepting 30fps during the Switch generation to being absolutely appalled by it during this generation. Personally, I played Skyrim on Switch 2 and it felt perfectly reasonable but I guess I grew up playing N64, PS2, and pirated Darksiders on my garbo PC at 20fps.
Why did Leon keep airballing all his shots in that Direct trailer? Does Leon shout spoilers every time he shoots infected? No wonder they turned on aim assist for him later in the trailer lmao
@Zuljaras I don't have a PC eo unofficial VR mods are off the table for me, but I can say RE7 is one of the best VR experiences I've had and I hope you ENJOY!
I'm playing RE2R flat rn and my god that also sounds incredible for VR.
@Gryffin Yes, it intuits how they sound the way Microsoft Sam used to do back in 2005 (though I'm sure some extra work has to go into fixing up digitized voices because it's harder to get english pronunciation to work than japanese) Sometimes it gets those pronunciations wrong, which is why in the "make a mii" section, there is a separate section for "how do you pronounce this name." So, the other day I was making Guy Fieri on 3DS and I had to enter his name pronunciation as "Guy Fee Yair Ee" or else it said it kinda like "Fury" I hope that answers your question, let me know if I misunderstood.
Oh my god, I remember when I picked up the Mario Kart World game, for the Nintendo Switch 2 system, I was shocked when the game actually let me drift... it's like, how did it know I wanted to do that?
I like the accessibility options because I could just choose not to use them. I am playing on Easy mode, don't come at me-I have very little time with my precious Switch. There are also people who like to play interactive movies aith their friends, and these options make the game more watchable for them. Net positive.
@Gryffin Digitized voices are not made with AI. If you ever played one of those retro 90s arcade machines like Berserk with the computer voices, it's basically that
I'm more excited for this game than I was for DK Bananza. The original released right before a big summer break and my sisters and I made an island full of all our friends, wackjobs like reggie fils-a-mech, and copyrighted characters. We spent hours on each of our turns and I was always excited to come back and see what kinda weird garbo my siblings made. I love the new customization options and I think my partner and I are gonna play this together, add our coworkers, family, friends, cats, etc and hopefully make them sing wack-ass songs if those make a return.
