Shia LaBeouf Disses the Wii

Posted by Corbie Dillard

Tranformers actor not a big fan of the Wii or its fans.

It seems that actor Shia LaBeouf isn't much of a Nintendo Wii fan. In fact, it appears he's not even that fond of Wii gamers in general.

Below is a snippet taken from the Big Download interview with Shia LaBeouf, in which he's asked about the Wii Transformers game and then decides to unload on the Wii console and anyone that even owns one.

BD: Have you checked out the Wii Transformers game?

SL: I haven't been able to play the Wii game because my hand is broken. I've just been playing Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. I would imagine that the Wii experience will be like...I don't mess with the Wii, to be honest with you. It's kind of an amateur console. I'm not into the Wii thing.

BD: What's wrong with the Wii?

SL: This is how in a simple way you can find out if it's a gamer you want to play with. Ask them if they have a Wii. If they say yes, get the f*** out of there.

BD: Is that why you wouldn't play LEGO Star Wars with Megan Fox on the set of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen?

SL: Correct. Who wants to play the Wii version of LEGO Star Wars. I'd rather eat glass.

Well he certainly won't be getting a Christmas card from Nintendo Life this year. What do you think about Shia's disdain for Wii gamers? We'd love to hear what you have to say about it.

I wonder if the makers of the Wii Transformers game like the ringing endorsement?

Mario_maniac said:

Bah, he's a tool anyway. If any girl at my school says they <3 Shia LaDouche, I get the f*** out of there.

WolfRamHeart said:

So, Shia LaBeouf says that the Wii is a amateur console. This coming from someone who's acting skills are way below amateur level.

y2josh said:

he is probably one of those cool people who thinks if its not a FPS its not good.

grenworthshero said:

hmm, that's unfortunate. I rather like him as an actor. Oh well. I'm sure he'll get his fair share of abuse for this one.

paulcmnt said:

I'm pretty sure the publishers of the game won't like his statement. He better get the f**** out of their way.

RadioShadow said:

Hang on, the Xbox 360 and PS3 controller are way more complicated than the Wii Remote, and all require both hands to play. So how the F**** if his hands are "broken" play the Xbox 360 or PS3 then but not the Wii? Just don't get him that thing that requires to move your arms about for the Xbox 360.

grenworthshero said:

For those of you who don't know, he was Mutt in the newest Indiana Jones, and I thought he did a very good job. Also he was in Holes.

GreenBanana said:

Don't be too hard on him. He grew up on the streets and didn't get a proper education. Apparently his dad made him dress up in a clown suit, so you can imagine it got pretty ugly there. Pretty sad, especially since he was in a Disney movie and that Indiana Jones movie nobody liked. Maybe he'll mature once he hits puberty and ceases his Orlando Bloom wannabe thing going on.

Nathan said:

Wii owners are among the best gamers you could play alongside..
The Wii is amateurish? Oh yeah, like the games on the 360 and PS3 are really, really hard to complete and need a superb level of skill.. what a laugh.

James said:

What? A celebrity likes different things to what we like?! But... how will I know what to do from now on?!

Guess we won't see him endorsing any Nintendo stuff this Christmas, then. And for the record, let's try to have less of the childish name-calling and general abuse, shall we? It doesn't reflect well on anyone.

Jr-Joe said:

The wii is an amateur console?
It may have a lot of amateur games, but its not an amateur console. A lot of game developers just have really boring and crappy game ideas. If I new how to code, I think I could turn a lot of heads. Dont diss Nintendo, diss the games...

Mario_maniac said:

@18: But I thought LaDouche was quite clever! : P You're right, though, complaining about the guy's opinion won't really make us better off than him. It's just rather annoying that people STILL generalise like this.

Corbs said:

I think it's great he likes other things, but to go after the very people who own a Wii. Wow. Maybe he thinks we're a bunch of raving lunatics.

y2josh said:

He's got major issues. I saw an interview with him on Conan O'Brien and you could tell he was a pretty messed up person. I hate to talk about the guy, but its obvious.

Vendetta said:

I wonder if it's the same hand he broke in his drunk-driving accident. What a tool.

Link79 said:

I'm not a big fan of his anyway. I've learned to tolerate him but I still think he's a punk and a bit cocky too. The movies he's in like Indy 4 and the transformers would have been better without him but I don't feel like he totally ruined them. He's no Harrison ford that's for sure. In all honesty Shia is not a very good actor at all. I'm glad he doesn't like the Wii. He doesn't deserve one.

Kelvin said:

Best chuck my Wii in the bin then! Oh wait, not on the say-so of a celebrity loser!

Corbs said:

Are we talking Crispin Glover messed up?

premko said:

Let him star in the movies - we don`t need to listen to his "it`s -me-ble-ble"

y2josh said:

LOL! No not that messed up, seen that one on youtube. The episode of Conan is on hulu if you want to see it.

Jockolantern said:

This has to be the most ringing endorsement for the Wii I've seen all year. I mean, seriously? We're supposed to take what LaBeefcake says seriously considering he has absolutely zero talent as an actor to begin with? If Shia likes his 360 more than anything else, than I do believe I'll stay the f*** away from whatever he's playing and stick to this generation's clear winner and best console for tried and true, old-school loving gamers.

Shia sounds like another FPS-obsessed tool.

Chunky_Droid said:

I didn't mind him in Indy, haven't seen Transformers myself.
Personally i could care less what he thinks about me, he's probably one of the people going gaga over Natal after dissing motion control

He's an ok actor at best. You could argue he's "amateurish" in his trade compared to the real top perfrmers (lol).

I'm glad an isolationist, closed minded, non-appreciative gamer has dissed the Wii. It endorses it further. Enjoy you first person shooters "Shia" (is that French or Persian btw!?)

I only watch him in Transformers because I like Transformers - if he wasn't in it, i wouldn't be going "oh, this movie would be better if Shia was the main character"

mastersworddude said:

I dont care about what LaDouche thinks of me because i like a console, i and i think hes a horrible actor, so i dont care.

I'm wondering if maybe he just hadn't played the game and rather than admit it, he said he wasn't really into the console.

jbrodack said:

i could care less what he thinks. thought it is funny how he does his best to prove he's such a hardcore gamer

mastersworddude said:

I wouldnt care about it if he just said he is not into it, but to act like an immature fanboy by dissing Wii owners, only slims his fanbase.

Incognito_D said:

This will just seem like a bitter retaliation but honestly, I saw Transformers at the cinema last night and it was one of the worst films I've ever paid to see.
I can't believe how cheesy and clichéd it was. I had to go to the toilet half-way through which I normally try to avoid, but last night I didn't want to go back in! Last time I failed to enjoy a film that much was when I went to see Peter Jackson's King Kong.

Link79 said:

I bet the N64 was his first Nintendo system. Anybody who started out with that probably would turn into a Sony fanboy. By then Nintendo was losing ground and Sony's PS1 was getting more popular. I do like a few Sony games but I'll always be more of a fan of the big N. You don't have to be into the newest technology to be hardcore. You just have to love videogames.

Sabrewing said:

I don't care if he likes the Wii or not -- diff'rent strokes for diff'rent folks and all that -- but that's a surprisingly, well, blunt way of wording it on his part. Wonder what inspired the cussing on his part. You know, what bad gaming experience did he have with it?

Speaking of him as an actor, so far, I've seen him in Surf's Up, Transformers, Indy 4 and Eagle Eye. He's not BAD, but... he keeps playing the same character over and over -- the brash hoodlum-wannabe type who has something to prove. Needs to expand his range more.

Bensei said:

Too less argumetation in his sayings. I he says he hates the Wii because of too much non-gamers or too bad graphics, okay. But throwing all Wii-owners (no, not only fanboys, not only gamers, but just owning one is a crime for him), makes him just another fundamentalistic fanboy, who made a big mistake, because many of his fans, who play Wii, won't buy the Transformers game anymore.

You should watch out what you're saying in public, especially with fanboys. Just ask John Lenon.

Objection said:

@Incognito D "This will just seem like a bitter retaliation but honestly, I saw Transformers at the cinema last night and it was one of the worst films I've ever paid to see." Replace "cinema" with "DVD" and "last night" with "some horrible day" and the same happened to me.

"To be fair" , I think he was just trying to be funny....but failing miserably...

He should be more concerned about the reviews in Europe that Transformers 2 the movie is getting. Its been commonly described as "one of the worst movies of all time"....seriously!

Besides, he sounds like another sweaty palmed isolationist who hasn't really tries a Wii properly. I doubt he'd be able to master some of the real high skill level games on the Wii IMHO. ;-p

Oh and I'd rather listen to these guys' opinions on the Wii who are less "famous" than ol' Shia. I think an active athelete's opinion would carry more weight:

PhillaLoup said:

the transformers video game sucks on every console... but on PS360 it has nice graphics. video games of movies sucks in general...

Machu said:

Like I'd listen to what that t*** says. Between him and that gimp Bay, they destroyed one of my favourite childhood franchises, by making it dumb, like them.

Bless him, he actually thinks he's acting when he's jumping and running around dodging imaginary robot's. Personally I disliked him long ago, but that new bit of info means he is now on 'the list'.

Turbo_Genesis_64 said:

News Flash Mutt Williams! You ruin every movie you are in!! I hope Spielberg adds your face in the next Boom Blox game!!!

Mik said:

The thing is, he may not like the Wii, but hardly anyone likes him. He gets what he gives. He's an awful actor.

WoRMaSTeR said:

I though it wasn't possible for me to think any lower of him, but he just managed to prove otherwise.

The_Indigo_Effect said:

For someone that's never had the "Wii experience," he sure does hate the console a lot. It's nice to know that he doesn't have any REAL justification for his hatred. Typical actor; he talks a lot, but he really doesn't say much.

calculon said:

I've never been a big fan of his and I think Transformers wouldn't have been any worse without him (or his character for that matter) I also agree with Machu on his opinion of the butchering of Transformers. The rest of his films seem to have been fairly well received (except his early stuff - Monkey Business and The Christmas Path) but overall I'd say he's a largely forgettable actor and tends to ride on films that are recognised for better reason.

No doubt his PR gurus were sniggering their asses off at his comments but hey, if the guy doesn't like Wii that's fine. Maybe he broke his hand when he realized that yet again people are just so much more interested in every other aspect of a film rather than him.

gblock said:

Transformers - sucked

What a body of work there a$$......

Darknyht said:

Well he at least has one thing going for him, he is not in the G.I. Joe movie.

I think actors need to learn that most people really don't care what they think. They need to learn to just do and say what the script tells you to do and then shut up. If I want an opinion I'll ask an expert, not a celebrity.

metakirbyknight said:

Sorry, he just cursed at my hobby. Hey Shia! I was going to see your movie, but not now. I might even just watch YouTube snippets and write a review and ruin your career. I wish...

bestbuck said:

He hasn't got a clue about gaming. He has a PS3 and a 360? that's 2 consoles that are basically the same! Bit dumb that! I have a PS3 and a Wii so I have the best of all worlds. Any gamer who doesn't open his mind to Wii is missing out big time.

Nero said:

People who hate on the Wii always says that the only way to play it is to do big ass gestures, but seriously if you are playing it as a normal person you don't need big movements (in most games). But I guess it's easy to hate on it, and as I hate his acting skills there's no big change here.

(I hope no one get's offended by this post)

Gamer83 said:

I won't lie, I like the 360 and PS3 better but the Wii is an amateur console? This guy is a moron. And most people I know who own the Wii also have a 360 or PS3 and have been gaming for a long time, starting on the NES or before, and could probably beat the crap out of this loser in any game.

And in defense of Wii-only owners, I'm sure most of them are a lot better gamers than this jerkoff is an actor.

ejamer said:

I'm not going to trash Shia LaBeouf because he has an opinion that is different than mine (I think the Wii is a fine console for pretty much anyone) but it's so depressing to see this elitist attitude show up again and again from self-proclaimed "gamers".
Amateur console? Sure, the Wii is more accessible than PS3 or 360... but that doesn't mean you can't find good games for the system. Preferring one doesn't mean you have to rag on the other option.

Noire said:

Well, I guess I'm never going to be playing video games with Shia LaBeouf, then. Oh well. Not that disappointing.

ejamer said:

Wait wait wait... Before, I wasn't going to say anything negative... but now I found out more of the story...

BD: Is that why you wouldn't play LEGO Star Wars with Megan Fox on the set of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen?
SL: Correct. Who wants to play the Wii version of LEGO Star Wars. I'd rather eat glass.

So he's enough of a fanboy that he'd rather "eat glass" than hang out and play games with Megan Fox? Before it was just being a silly fanboy. Now, it's being a complete tool.

bboy2970 said:

Oh my much rant is built up inside me right now but i just don't have the energy. I will leave it at this, this douche bag is a COMPLETE idiot. He sucks as an actor and he has a stupid name. You wanna talk about an annoying fan base of people? How about people like this douche bag who follow 360 and/or PS3! Go back to playing your precious Halo 3, or whatever it is you people play, and leave the wii and it's followers alone. Seriously, it's one thing to attack a console, but to attack the people who play it? Especially when you are an actor that wants fans! Ok, i'm done.

IAmNotWill said:

I agree with comments 2 and 10. Some amatuer actor calling the wii an amatuer console. Lmao.

aaronsullivan said:

Um... guys. He's a famous actor who has a particular taste in video games. Apparently, he's also a bit of a fanboy who has a limited view on gaming. This is not rare or unusual, nor does it reflect on his job as an actor. Why are people so insecure on this board?

I like Shia as an actor, but he's young and does and says immature things. Just like most of us here.

meh i f he doesn't like it, that's his life.
I dunno why but I always think that when a celebrity talks about videogames they just say what the intended demographic wants to hear. I bet that the marketing group found that the majority of Transformers fans are xbox/ps3 gamers that hate the wii and told him to say something like that.
Not that I like the guy. His presence in Indy 4 was idiotic and Transformers is the worst movie of the decade along Snakes on a plane.

rustythekid said:

shut up kids, he gets to kiss megan fox everytime they do a Transformers movie, he can say whatever the f... he wants, even if he ends up as an ignorant when it comes to video games

brandonbwii said:

Well, his fondest game memory was with Mario Kart, so it's not like he's the sort of fanboy dissing Nintendo entirely.

Knux said:

He is a fool and a traitor. I think the Transformers Wii game needs to be boycott.

Varoennauraa said:

Speaking of amateurs...I can't remember seeing that LeBeaf-guy in any film. He's nobody to me, and seem he'll stay that way.

RuE said:

OK OK, this really angers me on SOOOO many levels. I had to personally make an account just to post this. First and foremost, I HATE Shia LeBeouf and I'm angry that he's the star of a good movie like Transformers. I hate that he was in Indy Jones etc. etc. He ruins movies for me. Also in interviews he thinks he's a big deal and he's the kind of guy that I just want to PUNCH in the face. Aside from that I own a Wii, a PS3 and an XBOX 360. All are different, I don't even use the 360 anymore since I found the PS3 was better (like the games, graphics and free online play). So between my PS3 and the Wii, I play the Wii 10 times as much and have more fun. The only games I play for PS3 are NHL 09 (competitive with friends) and Little Big Planet (fun with the gf). But Wii is just full of fun in every game and you can play with friends and have good laughs....So maybe Shia LaDouche does not have any friends to play with poor guy. Maybe he should get his attitude I HATE Shia LaDouche....GAWD I don't want to see that face in another movie...he angers me!

Good Day

The_Fox said:

Who the hell gives a f**k what any actor has to say about the state of videogames? Some of you are taking this way too seriously.

Who cares what that loser has to say. He is a crappy actor with a girls name.

Varoennauraa said:

Who cares? I'm not directly moved by any idiot with teenagers facial hair and driving habits, who's flaming any of my consoles while not understanding what gaming is. BUT! Somebody seems to care as this(and MANY others of similar kind lately) "newsflash" is lobbed all over the world.

brandonbwii said:

"I wonder if the makers of the Wii Transformers game like the ringing endorsement?"

I doubt they care. They probably didn't want to do a Wii Transformers game in the 1st place.

What a douche! Just cause we like to play games on the Wii doesn't make us "non-gamers!" I have a PS2, had a Dreamcast, and GC, and plan on getting a PS3. I also have a lot of PC games, so I guess I am a non-gamer cause I have a Wii!

Edit: forgot I had SNES as well!

Well I could not be happier after reading his words. This guy have big issues with alcohol and with his mother so its the last person on Earth that I would chose as example of good manners. About the mother issues here some words from him in a interview from the magazine Playboy the question was Who he thinks is the sexiest woman this is his answer: ”Probably the sexiest woman I know is my mother. She’s an ethereal angel. Nobody looks like that woman. If I could meet my mother and marry her, I would. I would be with my mother now, if she weren’t my mother, as sick as that sounds.” No comments. Also the reason why some people got upset with his words if he not giving his personal opinion about Nintendo he is making fun of the Wii players and Im not playing Nintendo from the last 20 years to receive lectures from some dude who want to sleep with his mother.

WolfRamHeart said:

I disliked him long before he made this idiotic statement. Now I have one more reason hate him plus I never had any respect for him to begin with. I wasn't going to see the crappy Transformers sequel anyway; the first one sucked and I'm sure this one is even worse.

I think it's funny, but I'd love to have the chance to ask him what he means by this. LOL. Is he so fearful of the power of Wii gamers that he'd run at the mere sight of one? Or has he been on these forums and comments before?

But when you curse at us and say you'd rather eat glass than play the Wii version of Lego Star Wars. You've crossed the line. I don't know about any of you but the 360/PS3 version don't exactly use the extra power. All you get on the 360/PS3 are FPSs that are carbon copies of their prequels.

As per usual, Nintendo will probably pay him to eat his words by the end of the week.
Or he'll read all the negativity, and apologise of his own accord.

He's entitled to have it just as much as those people who say "If it's not by Nintendo it's not worth playing"...which is equally as ignorant a statement.

Ren said:

yeah, big deal. I don't care for his acting myself either, and he sounds a little immature to answer any interview question in that manner. His loss.
I can't exactly fault him for not feeling the Transformers Wii game, though, it was almost as bad as the movie. Could have been cool if it didn't have the weird camera issue. Same with the movie in fact. Bad editing/pacing, but then thats always the downfall of the hack that is Michael Bay.

That article made me chuckle. I know quotes can sometimes be taken out of context during interviews, but if that statement is true it's not a great way to gain favour in the eyes of the people who've just employed you to star in a film that's just been released, or the people who just paid top dollar for the licence to produce a game for that film.

Regarding the 'amateur console' statement ... Dissing a majority of fans (or potential fans)? Way to go! What a great way to alienate over 50% of potential game purchasers. XD I've been gaming for over 25 years but I own a Wii. I must be a casual, amateurish gamer.

I used to like this guy.
