Awesome game. The track design is brutal from track 2 onward. F-Zero has always been about the single player for me, the lack of multiplayer isn't such a big deal.

I just love how CONSTANTLY demanding this game is. You can't blink for even a second.

Dang, that seems like a big oversight. Still seems like an interesting game, but it's a bummer that it's so exclusionary. Nintendo is actually a typically progressive company with their characters/games.

EDIT: Just read some of these comments. Did I somehow get transported to an IGN comment section?

I could never quite get into this one, but I know it has a following. Kirby, for being so cute and "safe," probably has the most divisive games of any of Nintendo's franchises. Kirby Air Ride, Epic Yarn and 64 are all either the worst or best games ever depending who you ask.
I probably need to give Mirror another shot, is what I'm saying.

10/10 game for me. One of the finest RPGs of all time, and one of the few truly great comedies in gaming.

Also, I was skeptical about how these games would look on Wii U. Turns out it was needless. The game looks fantastic, as good as any SNES game. The only thing that suffers is the sound. Great music, but it sounds a little tinny.

I'll be picking up Mario & Luigi for sure, and probably Metroid Fusion just to be able to play it on the big screen.

I actually really dug the Batman Blackgate 3DS game from what I played of it so I may pick up the HD remake.

Best Sonic game ever. I truly don't get the meh reviews it got. Maybe people didn't play around with the controls as much and discover how much depth there is? In any case, the DLC has been awesome. The Zelda Zone in particular has given me hope that they could actually pull off a successful Sonic Adventure game.

"It's rather like the slightly humorous state of affairs that says Yoshi isn't a dinosaur, he's a "Yoshi". We may think of him as a dino, and refer to him as such, but he's still a Yoshi when all is said and done."
Was this article written by a British robot?

Kid_A commented on Review: Yoshi's New Island (3DS):

I played through the first world of the game. So far, I'd say a 5 is pretty harsh. Like Yoshi's Story, it's a game clearly geared toward young gamers, but I don't know how you couldn't have your pants charmed off by the visuals, music and story (simple as it is). The level design is about as standard as it gets so far, but it's perfectly enjoyable so far.

THOSE VISUALS THOUGH. The screenshots make them look horrible, but they look stunning on the 3DS screen. You can see the brushstrokes on the trees and clouds, the crosshatched pastels on the Yoshis. The game looks amazing.

Kid_A commented on Review: Super Mario Bros. Deluxe (3DS eShop):

This isn't out in the US yet, so I'm glad I read this before I plopped down more cash on SMB. I must have had nostalgia clouding my memory. I remembered this being perhaps the definitive version of the game. Totally did not remember it having the zoomed-in screen! Obviously that would be a huge problem. It's a shame that the All Stars version's physics differ from the NES original, otherwise it would be the best version of the game.

I'd like to see TP over SS for an HD remake. SS looks gorgeous as is--I only want a remake of that one if they use the extra power of the Wii U to fix other stuff. For example, being able to seamlessly skydive into/out of Skyloft without initiating a loading scene.

Great idea for a feature! This game is seeing a real resurgence these days in the speed running community.

I'd request a similar article on Sonic Lost World, which I think is easily the best 3D Sonic ever and the best platformer on Wii U that isn't 3D Land. Bizarrely dismissed game.

Also: Yoshi Story, which is the most charming game ever and screw anyone who disagrees.

Nintendo HAS to know they'd make a fortune putting games on iOS devices. I know nothing about business, but I genuinely don't see how putting out, for example, a $0.99 Mario runner on iPhone wouldn't make them millions of dollars and increase Wii U/3DS interest and customer awareness by a billion percent. Even a port of NES Remix to iPhone would cause an absolute explosion of Nintendo interest. All iPhone games have advertisements. If they put a game on iPhone and pumped it with a few ads for Wii U...I just don't see the downside.

Kid_A commented on Review: Monster High: 13 Wishes (Wii U):

This is one of my favorite "bad game" reviews I think I've read. Hilarious, but painfully detailed. It's easy to crap on a bad game--it's trickier to really EXPLAIN why a game is bad in an articulate, thorough and entertaining way.

Kid_A commented on Review: Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate (3DS):

I actually thought this game was pretty darn solid. It doesn't have the quality to recommend to players who aren't already Bat-fans (unlike the console Arkham games, which I think anyone could enjoy) but if you're a fan of Batman, the story/acting and gameplay is definitely worth a look.

Kid_A commented on Review: Batman: Arkham Origins (Wii U):

Huh. It's funny how mixed the reaction is. I think this is probably my favorite Arkham game yet. The emotional center of it is much stronger, and the Joker story is one of the more psychologically fascinating I've experienced. I'm a big Bat fan, but I thought despite a weak opening act, it ended up being a fantastic experience, with a notably more cohesive narrative that City's mess.

I never had any issues with the frame rate when the game first launched, but for whatever reason I've had a heck of a time with it this week. Just in the past couple hours it has frozen on me twice. I wonder what gives? There must have been an update I wasn't aware of.

UPDATE:
Try turning off "camera assist" and "miiverse auto posting" from the Game Options menu. I tried it as an experiment and it seems to run a lot smoother for me now.

Kid_A commented on Review: Ikachan (3DS eShop):

Oh, Phil. How I disagree with this score.
This game is more about the unique atmosphere and children's-book-charm than anything else. It isn't supposed to be challenging. At the very least, I think it's a showcase of Pixel's ability to craft games of a look and feel completely his own.

This is coming from my experience with the game as a free PC download, though. As far as I can remember, it can be beaten in a couple hours. I'll concede it doesn't lend itself to a paid release.

Kid_A commented on Talking Point: The Emergence of Download-Only ...:

I definitely would say the eShop versions of retail games should be slightly cheaper, at the very least the N64 Remakes or older titles like Steel Diver. There should be competetive pricing. I can get Star Fax 643D for $20 at my local store; there's no reason why I should pay twice the price for a downloadable version.

Kid_A commented on Review: Vampire Crystals (WiiWare):

"certain levels tend to jump in difficulty so drastically that they’ll take any player several tries just to complete"

This is ridiculously unspecific. 98% of platformers have levels that take several tries to complete. And if so...so? Is that a bad thing? Is "several" bad? If it had been only "a few" tries would it be better?

Just awkward wording, is what I'm saying.

Kid_A commented on Nintendo Now Involved With Twilight Symphony:

Awesome!
Hopefully with Nintendo behind it we'll be able to get it from some digital outlets as well. I'm replaying Twilight Princess at the moment, and I'm not sure I ever fully appreciated how somber and heartbreaking its soundtrack is. Can't wait to hear some proper renditions of them.

Wow. That genuinely struck a cord with me. Like so many people my age, the latest Nintendo Power was always like getting a present in the mail. There was a time before the Internet, before gaming news was an obnoxious bombardment. I still love seeing it in my mailbox, even if it's no longer as revelatory.

Kid_A commented on Hardware Review: Wii U:

I find the entire idea of a console review very strange. A system should be judged by the end of its run, not when it's just starting. The DS was absolutely panned when it came out and now it could be argued to be Nintendo's best console. A system is defined by its games, not its tech.
