Bassman_Q commented on Site News: Nintendo Life Turns 10 Today:

I remember going on VC Reviews for a few months right after I got my Wii in 2008! Then I took a break for a few weeks, and when I tried looking for the site, all I saw was Nintendo Life. At first I was confused, but then I read that they had merged with WiiWare World to form NL, and I've been a member since!

Here's to another successful 10 years!

Bassman_Q commented on Review: Human Resource Machine (Wii U eShop):

"To complete the task mentioned above in Human Resource Machine you would need to first retrieve the first item using the "inbox" command, then copy the item you picked up to an open space, return to the inbox to retrieve the next item, then subtract the number you previously copied from the number you currently have; then you would use conditional jump commands to specify what part of your script to continue at based on the result of that subtraction command."

That sounds EXACTLY like how Assembly language works. Coincidentally, I had to write a similar Assembly script yesterday for one of my classes this quarter. I feel like this would be an excellent game for me but def not for everyone.

Bassman_Q commented on Review: Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon (Wii U eSho...:

I'd give it a 5/10 personally. I understand it's a remake, but the lack of character development and SUPPORT CONVERSATIONS were a deal breaker for me, especially since those were my favorite aspects of Sacred Stones and all the other FE entries. Plus the class-changing system made every character a bland slate. Fun fact, this game's the reason why I refuse to play as Marth in Smash. I just dislike this game so much.

Bassman_Q commented on Interview: Candlelight Studios and Bold RPG Am...:

@JoshuaTemblett - This sounds awesome! While I honestly prefer 16-bit era graphics to 8-bit, I can understand why it was chosen so the art of the game would be more manageable. That said, I feel like we have a very similar interest in RPG's; FF IX is indeed one of my favorite games as well, since the story is just so engrossing, a quality shared by my number one favorite Wii game, The Last Story. Just like you, I have some great ideas for RPG's with good storytelling, but I don't quite know where to start; I figured I could start developing some simple Android games since I know some Java first, but the learning curve for development just seems so high! Just curious, but how did you start developing games?

Also, more on the topic, do you happen to have a KickStarter for this project? I feel like this is the type of project that would be excellent to support!

Bassman_Q commented on Video: PolyKid’s Wii U Adventure Platformer ...:

It looks decent, but a lot of the animations don't look very fluid, probably because it's still in the early stages of development. That said, it looks like it could be fun to play, kind of reminds me of both Mario and Zelda at the same time.

Bassman_Q commented on Mario History: Super Smash Bros. Melee - 2001:

This game introduced me to so many of Nintendo's other franchises once I played it. The only Nintendo series I had played before this were Mario, DKC, StarFox, and Metroid, and this game introduced me to Kirby and Zelda, among others. Just as others have mentioned, I also spent several hours collecting trophies and learning about lore from games I had yet to play at the time; the Legend of Zelda trophies in particular eventually convinced me to buy and play Wind Waker!

Bassman_Q commented on WayForward May Be Teasing a New Mighty Switch ...:

I thought Mighty Switch Force was pretty good, if a bit overrated imo. I'd be happy if the gameplay was different than the first game, or if was just an entry in the overarching Mighty series rather than the MSF sub series.

Bassman_Q commented on Mario Memories: Super Mario RPG Opens Up The W...:

This was my first video game, ever. It's been a number of years since I last played it, but it's definitely among my Top 3 games of all time, if not number 1... there's just so much nostalgia for me with this game, it's crazy.

Bassman_Q commented on CIRCLE Entertainment Highlights Early Sales Fi...:

I'm still working my way through my second run of Awakening and also Ghost Recon Shadow Wars, but I may have to pick this up to if its really as good as some of you have been saying. 3 Turn-Based Strategy RPG's in one summer? Count me in!

Bassman_Q commented on Feature: The Biggest 3DS eShop Games of 2015 -...:

Steamworld Heist for me, since I'm a sucker for good strategy games. I would be hyped for Shantae but the remaster doesn't seem to have changed much to warrant a second purchase. Antipole, on the other hand, looks beautiful after the graphics enhancement, and may warrant a purchase from me if the price is reasonable.

Bassman_Q commented on Five Wii U Sequels We Need on the Nintendo NX:

It's a good list you've got there; I especially agree with a Pikmin and Metroid Prime sequel.

At this point I just really hope the NX is backwards compatible because of all the gems the Wii U has that I haven't yet played.

Bassman_Q commented on Feature: The Biggest 3DS Retail Games of 2015 ...:

Chibi Robo for me, that one caught me by surprise and is one of the few E3 games I'm actually hyped about.

Other than that it's just FE: Fates for the 3DS for me, but that's not coming out here until next Spring or Summer probably.

Bassman_Q commented on Talking Point: E3 Highlighted Nintendo's Devel...:

Of course, the inevitable question that arises from this article is: Is the Wii U still worth purchasing in 2015?

I've been asking myself this question since E3, especially since I don't own a Wii U yet. I figure that it does have a small but solid library of games (especially on the eShop), but most likely support for the console will stop to a halt by late 2016/ early 2017, giving a new adopter only about a year or 2 to enjoy the console before the new platform is released.

Bassman_Q commented on Fire Emblem Fates Iwata Asks Explores Multiple...:

The first time I played Awakening I thought the story was pretty good, or at least good enough to keep me playing. The second playthrough right now made me realize that the story is quite cliche, though it's still enjoyable; the main draw of Fire Emblem Awakening imo was the characters and their relationships (ie the addicting marriage system).

With that said, I'm SUPER hyped for this new branching paths system in the new plot, even if it is split between two games; I've been waiting for Intellegent Systems to do that in a Fire Emblem game ever since I played Sacred Stones, which also has a branching path, though it's only for about 8 chapters rather than the whole game.

Bassman_Q commented on Poll: How Excited Are You About Nintendo's E3 ...:

Honestly I feel like Federation Force looks pretty fun, though I'll admit I'm not digging the chibi-like art style at all. I also hope it has a solid single-player, since I mainly play single-player games.

That said, the lineup of games incoming doesn't look THAT bad (Xenoblade is a must-have for me, and Star Fox looks promising as well), but everyone is disappointed (myself included) simply because there was no big-hitter reveals akin to Zelda U last year.

Also, Fire Emblem: Fates looks pretty awesome from what we've seen so far. Too bad they haven't revealed whether it'll be a split release here in the west yet, though.

Bassman_Q commented on Metroid Prime: Federation Force Is The Metroid...:

The trailer barely showed much gameplay, but it does look at least interesting! I was honestly excited with the trailer, though I agree from what we've seen it doesn't seem like a "true" Metroid game... I just hope co-op is just an option and not a requirement to play the game.

Bassman_Q commented on Feature: Explaining Humble Bundle and What it ...:

Does anyone know if the download codes expire? I'm tempted to donate $10 for the Wii U titles (I already have all the 3DS titles on offer), though I don't have a Wii U yet and probably won't get one for at least another few months.

Bassman_Q commented on Developer Pleased with Sales of Retro City Ram...:

I just bought the 3DS version last night at half price, and it's great! I have the original WiiWare version but it feels so much more natural on the handheld; also it was much too difficult to see what was going on in the Wii version.

Bassman_Q commented on The New 3DS Fire Emblem Will Force You To Pick...:

I KNEW it! As soon as they announced that the game would rely heavily on decisions made by the player, I KNEW it had something to do with picking a side or faction to be on. I've been hoping for a Fire Emblem story to have a decision like this for a number of years, and now it's here!

My mom used to watch this Japanese drama show based in the Samurai/Shogun era where the main character had to choose between supporting his current boss or switching sides to help his boss's brother; I thought it was quite an interesting story concept and have been waiting for a game to utilize such a story mechanic. That was at least 5 years ago, and now I am SUPER-HYPED for this game. It might be even better than Awakening if done right.

Bassman_Q commented on Watch: Catch Up With the North American, Europ...:

SOOOO hyped for the new Fire Emblem game, though given the fact that the trailer was un-translated, we probably won't see it here in the U.s. til either late this year or early next year.

I must say, that Majora's Mask New Nintendo 3DS bundle sounds mighty tempting atm, though I only want the new system solely for Xenoblade.

Bassman_Q commented on Feature: The Biggest 3DS Games of 2015:

Most excited for smileBasic tbh... I've always been interested in creating small games (especially after WarioWare DIY took over my life back in 2010), plus it seems like an excellent way for budding programmers such as myself to create some cool games.

After that I'm most excited for MM3D, mainly because I never finished the original and am confident that they improved the overall 3-day system without making it frustrating for the player.

Bassman_Q commented on Poll: Which is the Best Pokémon Game?:

Honestly, for me it's hard to decide between HeartGold and Y... I only have 3 Pokemon games to date (with my first being Pearl; I didn't get into Pokemon until early high school haha) but those two were the best imo. I voted for HeartGold, mainly because while I never beat the game, it was a lot more fast-paced than Pearl and the Pokewalker addition made it so I could train individual Pokemon without bringing my DS to school. As much as I enjoyed Y with its excellent graphics and battle scenes, I felt like HeartGold overall had more heart and character poured into the game.
