@DarthNocturnal I just had a look at my own copy with the yellow switch scanned compared to a file without, and although Luigi does have his trademark kicky-jump in both, he stays in the air longer with the yellow switch involved. Nothing major, but the option for all the switch changes and feather/boomerang items would have been the cherry on top.

Speaking of the sorry state of the e-Reader, Australia saw two of the cards (both included with the game) — level 1: Wild Ride in the Sky, and the Super Leaf. What a tease.

(At least people were inventive and came across a way around that. )

@Lizuka Coro Coro Castle was renamed to Treacherous Halls.

The only one I never got a chance to play was the second-to-last level, No Time to Dawdle. From what I've read, there was a very limited supply of those cards in Japan and they were meant to be kept by retailers who would scan the level into a customer's game. Nobody ever got the chance to decode the card since those who knew how to never got their hands on one.

Amazing! The only one I've never been able to play was one of the Japanese promo levels. The rest were available through a dot code printer at least, but soooo tricky to get to work.

I don't know how they'd all work when the regular cart only holds 32 levels at a time. And hopefully they include the power-ups and switches, too.

While I can handle waiting a bit for the update, I'm pretty disappointed that the Classic Controller wasn't made compatible with the game. I'm not buying another two Pro Controllers just for to get 4-player in this game specifically.

It'd be nice to say my "No thanks" meant something meaningful to them, but some sucker will buy it and return an obscene profit to them regardless. It looks disgusting. From the gross button-like corners of the watch to the handles pointing out the time, I don't see how this could be worth as much as they're touting. At least make it look like more than some claw machine prize before pricing it so highly.

I hate to say it but I'm skipping this one. Nothing's beaten the N64 one for me, and tbh I don't really see how they could beat it anyway. It's tennis. At the end of the day it's all the same, mega mushroom or special shot or otherwise.

(Also I've always hated Dry Bowser ever since MKWii. As a boss, great. But to me, I'd rather play as Petey Piranha. If my avatar doesn't suggest so already. )

So far, nothing's come close to the N64 and GBC versions for me. Probably nostalgia, but later games haven't really offered anything that new to excite me.

Speaking of the roster though, I know Camelot were fairly daring with the N64 version in terms of reintroducing some older faces and bringing in Waluigi, and they all became mainstays after that. I wonder if they'll ever do the same again. I've always thought Pauline and Stanley would make a decent pairing ala Mario/Luigi, Peach/Daisy etc.

Cheers for including the up/down animations in this one. The Zelda/Sheik ones were pretty clever.

Also worth pointing out — I saw in a Gamexplain livestream that the Splatoon Inklings turn into their squid forms while swimming. Little touches like that are nice.

Edit: Well that's embarrassing, I must've missed hearing that shoutout at the start of the video. Originally I asked whether or not you guys made this level as I saw it in another video.

I don't think it's the first time this has happened with the VC and it doesn't matter at all since I get why they do what they do, but Australia originally got the American release so seeing the Euro title makes me feel weird haha.

I remember using an Action Replay for Double Dash!! to fly around. The downside back then was you couldn't steer once you were in the air — it was forwards or a drop down to the void.

I actually wouldn't mind if future Mario Karts had this as a standard feature. Sure, if we got up close to things it might get blurry and glitched, but I can never fully appreciate the backgrounds 'til this stuff pops up. (Though the void makes me feel uneasy for some reason when it suddenly appears.)

I rarely experience lag where I am in Australia, but I won't speak for others.

What I am getting tired of though, is being the only English name in battles. I love playing against people around the world, but it gets tiring when the majority of the time I'm only grouped with Japanese players.

I think there was some confusion with the end date for redeeming codes. Downloaded games were specified to not offer any points after a certain date earlier in the year, and I think there was miscommunication by certain gaming sites that suggested the codes were locked out on that date too. But yeah, as others have said the last day to enter codes is the day CN goes dark.

(Managed to get my coin. Wooooo.)

The thing that made me fall in love with DD is that it was the first MK to really shake things up with the roster. It was the first time I was introduced to my mate Petey; the first time anybody met Toadette; the first time I could use two of my favourites at once (Daisy and Waluigi in the Turbo Birdo to make it feel like a threesome). The cast felt perfect for the era and it sort of makes me wistful when I look at the rosters for MK7 and even MK8 — awesome characters, but too many icons are missing.

I'm inclined to agree with both sides in the argument going on here. On one hand, amiibo do need their uses and it's good they're actively seeking ideas for it.

On the other, the stuff that impacts the games beyond an aesthetic — Link's spinner in Hyrule Warriors, pixel Toad in Captain Toad, co-op in this... well, I'm just saying that not everybody wants amiibo and it's a little unfair to ask consumers to buy them to see that sort of thing. I agree with whoever said above that Nintendo could offer that particular content (i.e not the Mario Kart costumes etc.) as paid eShop purchases while remaining "free" for amiibo supporters.

At the end of the day though, trading barbs with each other here is not conducive and being disrespectful to each other won't make your arguments heard any louder. We all have different thoughts towards what we want from our purchases and as such we all should have the right to say what we think about it without calling one party entitled and the other one sheep.

@BulbasaurusRex That's not how I see it. They could still (and would) charge for the update from Wii > Wii U even if the price was lower on the latter service. Did you see my comment earlier about how N64 games are AU$15 on Wii's Virtual Console and AU$13 on Wii U's Virtual Console? It's still another AU$2.60 to upgrade from Wii to Wii U in Australia, making it $17.60 for people who bought the game earlier compared to those who bought it just on Wii U.

So it'd be the latter case you mentioned happening, but the thing the complainers would need to keep in mind is that they've had the game for a longer time, and that the game was altered to specifically suit the service they downloaded it from. I'm not complaining about having to pay $4.60 more for Paper Mario, because I had all that time with it back on the Wii. There is no compelling argument I can see as to why Nintendo should be charging a premium for these games.

@EarthboundBenjy Ah, good call. But I mean, they've also altered games like when it came to the advertisements in Wave Race 64, and then there was the photo gallery feature in Pokémon Snap. They didn't charge any extra for those alterations, and keeping SMRPG politically correct by going over the dialogue shouldn't have come out of the customer's pockets either. But you're right when you suggest that they do care about their audiences when they do things like that.

It's hardly the worst thing in the world to pay a couple of bucks extra given the quality of the titles — I love Nintendo forever for bring SMRPG into my life back during the Wii days haha — but I think the whole premium-price thing is silly when they would otherwise charge the same amount for shallow experiences like NES Tennis and fuller games like Super Mario Bros. They seem to value their older games based on what regions they were released in moreso than the actual quality of the games, and that's my biggest issue with it all.
