That's right, I like to make long baseless rants and then run away. Big whoop, wanna fight about it?

JimLad commented on Talking Point: Should Zelda Go Episodic?:

Well considering Majora's Mask was made from the same engine and graphics as OoT in one year, and people seem to rave about that game (I wasn't one of them). I suppose there could be a market for it.
I personally wouldn't mind seeing the Twilight Princess or Wind Waker engines used for new games with new overworlds and dungeons etc.

On the other hand, their infrequency is what makes them special. But I think Nintendo need to up their game if they want future entries to be taken seriously. Skyward sword feels like it was made on a quarter of the budget given to Twilight Princess, and in many ways it feels like a step back. Zelda is a series that needs to look stunning, hopefully with HD they'll start pushing the envelope a little more.

JimLad commented on Redesigned Wii U Tablet Controller Is Revealed:

I don't believe it will be uncomfortable in any way, Nintendo have never made an uncomfortable controller. I do wish they would make the buttons a bit bigger though, there's no need to have them so small on a controller that big. Also they need colour really it makes them easier to identify. Clearly a choice of style over practicality there.
I'm glad they chose sticks though, slide pads are good for handhelds but for long console use I wouldn't want to use them.

JimLad commented on Feature: Launching a Console Without Mario:

It won't effect early adopters because they are the die-hard fans. It will effect the following months after the hype dies down, then they need new customers.
A lack of Mario didn't effect the GameCube so much because it got Super Smash Bros Melee within the first month. And you're right 3DS was just too expensive.
The thing is Super Mario World and Mario 64 (and Super Mario Bros) were landmark games. They were the kind of games you go "wow I must play that". I don't think Sunshine was one of those games, or New Super Mario Bros, or Mario 3D Land. Mario Galaxy might have been, but it still wasn't HD.
Sadly he's getting old now and doesn't set the standard like he used to.
Mario is still a surefire way to get the casual crowd on board though, and Nintendo need those consumers before they start rolling out other games, not after.

JimLad commented on Peter Molyneux Wants More From 'Lacklustre Wii U':

I agree with everything ShadJV #32 said.
They do need more third party games to keep up but also some killer app first party software. I'm talking about games that define the console and make use of the controller. Otherwise, what would be the point?
Personally that's what I'll be looking for, new ideas that wow me. Otherwise I'll just stick with brand X, I don't need another standard Mario/Zelda/Mario Kart that badly.

How many times?... Crush 40 is NOT CHEESY! It's a masterpiece and the best music ever committed to a Sonic game, possibly to any game.
Sonic Adventure 2 has one of THE greatest gaming soundtracks.

That would be cool.
I'd be a bit wary since I wasn't exactly a fan of DKC Returns or any of the Metroid Primes (although I'm not a Metroid fan period)
But I know these guys are talented enough to make it. Just so long as they don't make it as infuriating as Donkey Kong it should be awesome.

JimLad commented on Talking Point: Does Nintendo Finally 'Get' Dig...:

Digital Distribution is the future.
It opens up the market to indie development teams, allows them to set the price point, release patches, demos, DLC, have their games rated accurately.
It's the best way to get some fresh blood and new ideas.

JimLad commented on We'll Probably See Some New Nintendo Character...:

You know the best way to come up with new characters?
Make more platforming games! That's how all the best ones started:
Mario, Metroid, Sonic, Mega Man, Castlevania, Kirby...

And they've got to be kickass, unlike Pikmin and Nintendogs.
Miyamoto is a great producer, but I doubt his ability to come up with any new awesome ideas at this point.

JimLad commented on Talking Point: Why Skyward Sword Sales Failed ...:

@Phoenixborn I agree with the first part. Hardware sales don't necessarily = software sales. This is a clear sign that Nintendo's core fanbase has been abandoning them in droves, that's why their new software doesn't sell as much.
Massive gaps in your release schedules will do that.

JimLad commented on Talking Point: A Big Year for Nintendo:

I dunno, this E3 will be the maker or breaker for me.
The WiiU needs some truely original software to wow me like the Wii did when it launched. Something that makes the controller worth while, not just gimmicky touch screen crap tacked on to the same old games.
I won't buy it for traditional games because my Xbox will do that much better with it's traditional controller.

JimLad commented on Nintendo Posts First Annual Loss in 30 Years:

Unsurprising considering how they've treated the Wii in it's final years.
It won't hurt them financially because of the enormous profits they already made, but their reputation as a console maker has taken a much bigger hit, which will be hard to recover from.

JimLad commented on Real Life Skyward Sword Controls Don't Work:

HAH, you need the Triforce of courage to go out and do that.
I never actually had problems with the controls really, it was the world layout and lack of memorable characters that let me down.

JimLad commented on Nintendo Reveals New Super Mario Bros. 2 for 3DS:

So long as it doesn't eat into NSMBWU development time, I welcome it.
Although going back to that article about "Is Nintendo too reliant on Mario" I'm getting even more convinced that it is.
I'm not sick of Mario, I'm sick of missing other franchises they could be working on.

JimLad commented on MDK2 Dev Will Never Develop for Nintendo Again:

This is the kind of article that seperates the realists from the pack.
I mean 6000 unit sales before a return!? That's outrageous considering the Wii's poor online install base and complete lack of marketing/support.
It's not a big sales number, but for WiiWare it's a struggle for any game.

I hope the Wii U does better, but right now I simply can't defend Nintendo on their online policy. It stinks.

JimLad commented on Mario Wii U "Based On" New Super Mario Bros. Mii:

I'll always prefer a 3D Mario, but I am mega excited for this as well.
My friends and I had so much fun playing NSMBW it's unreal.
I'm praying this is a launch title, it would do wonders for WiiU's sales.

That's pretty cool, but the best console guitar has to be MegaDriver's Mega Drive guitar. You can find videos of it on YouTube.

JimLad commented on Miyamoto: "F-Zero Could Work on Wii U":

@Ben_Rage_V2
I was the same. I appreciate the amount of content in GX, but I just didn't get the same enjoyment out of it, maybe it was the learning curve. Also X had way more style.

F-Zero is a good game to show off Wii U's power, I hope they make one, and make it online.
The problem with Miyamoto, and Nintendo in general is they are so committed to making new experiences, that they won't bother revisting old franchises if they can't think of something new to add to it.
I wish they'd realise that most fans are happy with more of the same, and start making DLC for their games.

If he keeps this up, they're gonna have to make something.
Link to the Past is an excellent game. I can see how 3D would make multi-leveled rooms that much better. The parts where you're running around on walkways upstairs but can see monsters in the rooms below.

JimLad commented on Talking Point: Is Nintendo Over-Reliant on Sup...:

Yes because core fans want something new.
No because they still sell and get Nintendo out of the s**t when hardware sales are down.
They need to start launching their systems with Mario titles again. It pretty much secures their future, then they can roll out the other IPs later on.

Everyone seems to have differing opinions on which games were the best.
Testament to the broad appeal of the series. That's the main reason Mario games are the best, anyone can play them.
The new games are getting easier, but the fun is still there. That's all that matters to me at the end of the day.

I'll take that as a confirmation of it not being super powerful.
I didn't have my hopes up anyway, they were never gonna outgun Sony and Microsoft.
If it can play HD games, that's enough for me. I don't see graphics getting much better anyway.

JimLad commented on Talking Point: Is Wii U's Power Really That Im...:

The whole graphics race is heading to a dead end anyway.
Digital Distribution is where it's at. Smaller games at a fraction of the price, giving you twice as much fun. They're made with a passion and creativity that you just don't see in most retail games anymore.
But on that front, if Nintendo can make their games look amazing, then that is all that matters. With PS3 levels of power and HD I think it's entirely possible, given what they achieved on the Wii.
Besides, I'm still not convinced 'next gen' graphics will look that much better anyway.

JimLad commented on SEGA to Cancel Games, Focus on Existing IP:

They could save some money by making more straight retro sequels for download services.
Streets of Rage 4, Golden Axe 4, etc. Use the same engine and graphics, just create new levels. I'm sure it would sell.

JimLad commented on Vigil Games: "Wii U On Par with Current-Gen Co...:

I don't know what's going to happen. All I know is graphics can't really get much better than what they are now.
If they do, development costs will be astronomical, and the retail market will become even more stagnant or collapse altogether.
