BOTW and TOTK are like two chapters of the same book series. You can read one or the other, but you really need to read them both to get the full story. Both games are essential - they're almost like one giant game cut in half. My vote is that I love both equally.
I hate to hear this. I was really looking forward to this one. I'll wait for a patch and a sale, and there's still the Anniversary Collection to pass the time with.
I mean, if you were 6 or 7 years old playing these games on your 3DS, you're old enough to be in your last years of high school now. From that perspective, it would feel retro to you.
I have a few more side quests I need to do, and then I'll be ready to put it down. Nearly 300 hours into it, and it's been great. All time favorite game. I'm still hoping for some form of expansion DLC, but that doesn't seem likely until the next Nintendo system comes along.
Not Metroid-related, but I felt this way about the first Legend of Zelda. At first, I got frustrated with it, but after I solved a couple puzzles, I grew to love it. Now it's my favorite game series.
I never trade in games. I did sell a few on eBay earlier this year because they were mired in the backlog and I was never going to actually play them. I like buying pre-owned games every once in a while as long as they are in good condition.
I'll take more, but I'm not expecting more than 64GB. Nintendo has been notoriously stingy when it comes to internal storage, so I'm not expecting something crazy like 2TB.
I'm hoping they drop the "Switch" naming convention altogether and come up with something new. None of the "sequel" systems have done well, or at least performed as well as the original. NES, DS, and Wii all outsold the SNES, 3DS, and Wii U respectively.
These are all excellent callouts. The only thing I would add is the new Metallica album, 72 Seasons. It’s a fantastic album despite being created by a bunch of old geezers (like me, admittedly). It became my workout/driving soundtrack for several months this year.
Zelda with 173 hours. The next highest number was Ring Fit with 30. Sounds about right. I love that Nintendo does this, although I wish we had access to playtime tools like this any time we wanted, not just at the end of the year.
I wasn't a fan of the gyro puzzles in those two or three shrines in Breath of the Wild. I loved that game, but it was always a groan of agony when I realized a shrine was a gyro game.
Got a 1TB card a couple years ago after selling off the Wii U stuff, and I've got about 250 GB of room left on it. I should be okay until the next system comes along, which feels like it'll be sooner rather than later. A new card always feels like unlimited capacity for stuff, until it fills up.
Maybe Borderlands 3 if reviews are good and there's a sale. Otherwise, I'm good until Mario arrives. Still too much to do in TOTK to think about jumping into a new game.
There's a couple here I would consider, and there's a sale or two going on that are tempting, but I've kinda put a spending freeze on myself because I still have so much to do in Zelda TOTK that I literally don't have time for anything else. I've actually sold a few games because I knew they would stay hopelessly on the bottom of my backlog. Mario Wonder will probably be my next purchase.
I saw them as fun alternative/enhanced versions of the original games, and I liked being able to save my progress, but I preferred playing the original NES games.
I'll try it out if a friend has it, or there's a demo, but I've never been bothered to pay full price for either of these games. I'll stick with Jackbox.
I went in not expecting much, and I was pleasantly surprised. Sure, there are several ports and remasters, but the games chosen to be remastered are excellent choices (MGS, Mario RPG, LM Dark Moon, etc.). And Mario Wonder looks outstanding. That was a "stop what you're doing and look at this" moment. Overall, I thought it was great, a solid 8/10 - an announcement of TOTK and/or Splatoon 3 DLC away from the 9 or 10 range.
Pretty great of them to bring the tour to Knoxville. West Town Mall is right in our neck of the woods. Looking forward to hanging out there with the wife and kid for a couple days at least. I haven't been able to make it to one of these before, so this is pretty exciting.
I'm hopeful. Classic Sonic is great, so I'm very hopeful. I'm not sure how the NSMB formula will work here as far as same-screen co-op, especially if one player is having to keep up with Sonic zipping through a stage.
Purposely not reading this yet (I will read it eventually though!), but thanks for the review. Thank goodness for review scores. I can't wait to dive into this tomorrow.
Not sure why Fortnite made the list this week (I guess it's a highlight?), but I am enjoying having the lightsabers and blasters back in the game. Just think, TOTK will be in the next Nintendo Download article.
I have a preorder at Best Buy with the mini poster thing, so I'm good. That's a nice launch day freebie though. I had a bad experience when I reserved BOTW at Target years ago, and I've not gotten anything at launch there since.
I've been playing through Hyrule Warriors Age of Calamity. It's been on the backlog since it released, and I figured what better time than now to experience that. The only problem is I probably won't be completely finished with it when TOTK comes out next Friday.
I remember getting my Super Nintendo that had a picture of Link to the Past on the box, and having to wait and wait for the game to actually show up in stores so I could get it. Granted, it was probably only a few months, but that's forever in kid-dom.
@RupeeClock Thanks for clearing that up for me about the Magical Sword in the NES Zelda. My first thought when I saw the poll was, "What about the last sword in Zelda 1?"
Great article, thanks for putting this together. It seems weird, and I don't even know if it was an official quest, but the part where you save the house from demolition by buying it and then decorating it was my favorite. To have a place in that expansive world that I could call my own and decorate it however I wanted (within the bounds of the game) was a cool idea. I always ended my play sessions at that house once I had bought it, so that when I start playing again, I'd be at my house.
Not my kind of game, so it's a nope from me, but I'm thrilled that it's finally released for the folks who are super-excited to finally be able to play it.
I borrowed IV from a friend telling me to try it. "If you like Zelda, you'll like this too. It's different, but it's fun." Played it through to the end. I played through VI, VII, a lot of VIII (I couldn't bring myself to finish it), and played V through a fan translation on an emulator. But IV started it all.
This may finally be the app that tears me away from Pokemon Go. I'll definitely give this a shot when it's ready. Pokemon is great, but the Harry Potter, Pikmin, and NBA games aren't so much.

Re: Nintendo's Museum Apparently Won't Be Finished In March
Well I guess I should cancel that trip to Japan I was planning for next week. Thanks a lot, Nintendo.
I guess that line about a rushed game being bad forever applies to museums too.
Re: Nintendo Download: 14th March (North America)
Nothing for now, but I'll download the new MLB 2K once it gets super-discounted.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (March 9th)
TOTK still. Hunting for those last few wells, and my adventure log is complete.
Re: LEGO Fortnite Is Under Fire For Brand New 'Kits'
This should be expected, right? What bothers me more is not being able to play the game today. Somebody at Epic broke Fortnite.

The original World of Goo was a fantastic game that my wife and I both played through on the Wii. I'm definitely looking forward to this one!
Re: Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance Has Been Rated In Korea
If there's a DLC that upgrades the base game like Skyrim and the Disney Classics Collection, I'll get that. If this is a separate release only, nope.

I would totally try this out, but the only links I’ve found take you to the purchase option only. I’m not paying $30 for a free trial.

Waiting for reviews, but I'm definitely looking forward to the Tomb Raider games.

Quake II for sure, and waiting for a review (and a discount) of RDR.

Light sabers are still my favorite weapon in this game, and they also have an improved blaster in this event. The Force skills are lots of fun too.
