Re: Poll: What Did You Think Of Yesterday's Nintendo Direct?

mjharper

I want to know how much more Nintendo Switch Online is going to be, but otherwise, I thought it was good for a September Direct. I loved the extended look at Splatoon 3 (hoping for a spring release for that one, we'll see), and the Chocobo GP game actually looks like it'll be fun for the FF oldtimers like me (plus it'll fill that need for a new Mario Kart for a minute). The cast for the Mario movie is crazy good. Chris Pratt? Jack Black? Seth Rogen? Wow.

Re: Talking Point: Remember When People Thought Switch Would Fail?

I loved the idea that it would play on both the TV and as a handheld, but I was annoyed at the cost of the thing. I'd have to buy a $300 system, plus a decent, non-cramp-inducing controller ($70), plus a micro-SD card (that were of course more expensive than the regular-size SD card that the Wii used), plus the usual $60 for a new game.

I was never that concerned over whether it would be commercially successful or not - I only thought about it when I read articles online. I really enjoyed the Wii U and several of the games for it, so even if it was a commercial failure, our family thought it was great, and that's all that matters to me.

Re: Gallery: Is The Panasonic Q The Most Goshdarn Beautiful Nintendo Console Of All Time?

It was a thing of beauty. And it played Gamecube games and DVDs. The only drawback here is that it's shaped like a cube (and thus wouldn't work in a lot of TV setups these days). I think the original Wii was a pretty console too. All white, angular, small, with pretty lights on it. Also, I like my Switch, but it is kind of an eyesore in the TV setup. A few rectangular-shaped boxes, the TV, and one oddly-shaped thing that looks like a toaster that throws it all off.

Re: Nintendo's Mobile RPG Dragalia Lost Will Soon Slow Down On New Content

mjharper

I played Dragalia Lost for a couple years after its release, but I stopped. I didn't care for the combat in the game, and at the end I was just going through the motions to get the free stuff and not enjoying my time with it. This was a good, high-quality mobile game though, and you could get a lot of enjoyment out of it without spending any money on it. I would welcome a sequel on Switch.

Re: April O'Neil Is Playable In Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge, Now Out 2022

mjharper

Happy for the update, although it's not the news I wanted to hear. 2022 was already a loaded year for my Switch (BOTW2 and Splatoon 3), but I'll still download this when it comes.

I hadn't thought about the game featuring other fighters besides the Turtles. That opens up all kinds of possibilities - Casey Jones, Splinter, Leatherhead, Slash (and the other Mutanimals)...this game could have a large playable roster. Even more excited about it now.

I'd forgotten how utterly ridiculous the story mode for this game is, but I had a lot of fun with this, and it did become a home workout for me (I believe this game included a calorie counter if you wanted one to be displayed). It also became the first of several home DDR games I ended up buying. So, I have an appreciation for this absurd game. Thank you Konami and Nintendo for introducing me to a game I might otherwise have never tried out.

(Is this article our way of asking for a sequel? Because that would be great!)

Re: Talking Point: Nintendo's Business Remains Strong, But Is The Bloom Off Switch Lite?

mjharper

Interesting piece. The comment I've heard in stores about the Switch Lite has been, "You can't even play it on the TV." It's almost always in stock at the stores. It still has its place, though. Families will jump on a cheaper, more durable option for the kids. Should Nintendo lower the price of the device? Based on age, sure, but as long as Nintendo is happy with Lite sales, the price isn't going anywhere. I would expect it to still be $199 at Xmas this year (though it may see a price drop soon after).

Re: Soapbox: A Strange Desire For Switch Sports And A Return To Wii's Wuhu Island

I liked this game a lot. Sword fighting, golf, and basketball (3-point shooting only) were lots of fun in short spurts. The island flyover was also a relaxing good time. I still have this in case I ever want to go over to the Wii U and revisit the island. I would get a Switch version of this in a heartbeat, especially if it includes a pair of JoyCon (with RemotePlus attachments).

Re: Random: 'Switch Vs Steam Deck' Memes Are A Thing Now, Apparently

mjharper

I think someone posted this before, but competition is good. This will make Nintendo's future products better. I guess my only fear is fewer third-party ports coming over to the Switch in the future since they'll already have portable versions on Steam. But Steam Deck will have to do pretty good numbers before that becomes a legit concern.
