Re: How Well Do You Know Your Indie Games?

mjharper

6/12. I only dabble in indie games, so this isn't really a surprise. I'm proud to say I got the WiiWare question right (I think I still have the demo for AYIM on the Wii U). So glad I went in Wii mode and downloaded the games I wanted from the Shop Channel before it closed.

Re: Even At £100, Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit Doesn't Come With A Game Card

mjharper

This was the highlight of the Direct for my son. He's going to love this. The download shouldn't be more than a couple GBs, and really, you're going to have to have home internet for this to work anyway, so buyers shouldn't complain too much about having to download. Plus, I've learned with children and the Switch, the fewer tiny cartridges to go missing, the better.

Re: Feature: So, What Happened To Super Mario Galaxy 2?

mjharper

I'm going to say it's a combination of running out of time and internal politics. The Rona probably has the most to do with it, but Nintendo always sets the value of their franchises very high. It could be that internally Nintendo thought that including SMG2 would push the MSRP above the $59.99 threshold based on the value of the Mario games included in the package, so SMG2 was left out. It would be very Nintendo if that's the case.

Either way, there's a lot of Mario in that package already. There's tens of hours to fully complete each of those games (even if someone has done it recently, moreso if they haven't since the games were new). There's lots of content here already. I'll be very happy with this pack.

Re: Pokémon GO To Lose Support For Android 5, Older iPhones And iOS Versions

mjharper

My son played Pokemon Go on an iPhone 5S a little last summer, and he hated it. It "worked," but everything was slow. To this day he complains that the only reason he joined Team Blue instead of Yellow is because of that phone. But that phone was very old - I believe we bought that 6 or 7 years ago. I don't know how many people this will affect, but I doubt the number is very high. I don't blame Niantic at all for wanting to cut support for such old, unused devices.

Re: Random: Robert Pattinson Reveals How His Favourite Video Game Made Him Cry

mjharper

I don't think I cried, but I didn't see it coming when I first experienced it, and I remember being sad about it for several days afterward (probably clinically depressed). I remember I changed my FF7 window colors from green to red in memory of her. To this day, it's the saddest moment I've ever experienced in a video game.

Now I need to go Google Robert Pattinson.

Re: Nintendo Reminds Us The Switch Online Service Now Has Over 80 Classic Games

mjharper

I'm happy with the service so far. It's been nice having all these games that I would've paid for plus others that I can try out if I want. Plus online play, plus cloud saves, etc. And it's less than $3 a month for the whole family. We pay 4x more than that for Netflix, and we probably use NSO more.

Not trying to be mean here, but if you're missing VC so badly, go grab (or reconnect) a Wii U. The Wii U eShop is still open, and VC works great on that system. If you need portable, there's 3DS. Problem-solve, people.

Re: Poll: What's The Best Final Fantasy Game On Nintendo Consoles?

mjharper

One of my favorite game series of all time. If I had to pick one, it would have to be FF7, but FF6 is very close. FF4 is the game that got me into the series, and FF5 (a game I originally played on an emulator with a fan translation) was also good. FF8 is the last game in the series I played (never finished), but it's still a good RPG. I have FF9 and FF10 on the Switch, and I want to play through each of them one day, but there are so many games out there.

Re: Soapbox: Mario And Zelda Were Great, But GoldenEye Really Switched Me On To Nintendo

mjharper

Goldeneye took over my life during a semester at college. My friend and I would play it for hours. He was so hellbent on unlocking all of the multiplayer cheats that he worked for days on the missions required to unlock them. The four player multiplayer was the best, though. Paintball, one-shot kills, and the automatic weapon set. We had the respawn locations memorized. Good times.

Super Mario Bros. was the game that brought me to Nintendo, though. Before that, I wanted an Atari. Silly kid.
