Re: '90s Anime 'Samurai Pizza Cats' Is Getting The Action RPG Treatment Next Year

UmbreonsPapa

What a random, but welcomed surprise!

Loved Samurai Pizza Cats back in the day. The show helped get me through the mornings before school.

I know the show is an adaptation. But I was a bit confused that the trailer referenced 1991. I recalled, at least in the states, we didn’t get the show until at least 95/96. But I was surprised to find out it debuted in other countries (UK, Canada, etc.) years prior.

Also, the show hasn’t been completely out of sight, out of mind. At least here in the states, it’s been on a plethora of free streaming services over the last couple of years.

Re: Sony Does What Nintendon't By Removing A Bunch Of 'eSlop' Titles

UmbreonsPapa

@AnnoyingFrenzy I do. It’s mostly out of convenience and immediate availability. If I’m already on my Switch or Xbox, it’s quicker for me to just go to their dedicated shops rather than whip out a separate device to browse games. Granted, I do also rely on word of mouth and/or gaming sites when it comes to specific games. I also use Deku Deals. But yes, I do browse their digital storefronts

Re: Talking Point: Where Should 'Luigi's Mansion 4' Take Place?

UmbreonsPapa

I really like the ideas presented here. Maybe except for the abandoned prison, lol. Save that for a more mature title.

An out there thought sprang to mind. I know this wouldn’t probably happen as Nintendo seems to be doing mostly in, at least with Mario, but it’s Universal and many deem Disney as the Evil Empire. But I think a Nintendo/Disney team up with Luigi’s Mansion 4 taking place in the Haunted Mansion would be fun.

Re: Is This Our Best Look Yet At 'Switch 2'?

UmbreonsPapa

@AstroTheGamosian I don’t disagree that you keep your expectations in check. But that’s really more of a you issue (not you personally) if you can’t keep perspective in these kinds of situations. I guess what I’m trying to say is that it’s perfectly possible to speculate, theorize, discuss or even have ideas of what you would like to see from the Switch successor. At the same time, have the perspective and maturity to know there’s a 99% chance none of what you discuss or have for a wishlist will happen. It’s no different than discussing what’s gonna happen on your favorite show. It’s fun to discuss, guess or theorize what might happen. But keep in mind you aren’t the one writing the show. Hope my point makes sense.

I have games, features and a host of other things I would like to see from the Switch successor. I don’t have any expectations that any of those things will happen. If any of them do, great.

Re: Is This Our Best Look Yet At 'Switch 2'?

UmbreonsPapa

@AstroTheGamosian I don’t disagree that we need to wait for the official reveal before making any bold declarations on what’s real or not. But I don’t see anything wrong with harmless speculation over the name or the nature of the console.

Re: Rumour: Supposed Images Of The 'Switch 2' Motherboard Appear Online

UmbreonsPapa

I don’t necessarily care if this is true or not. That pretty much goes for any of the alleged leaks thus far. I have no preconceived desires or expectations. I will say just the whole chatter over the Switch Deux in general is exciting. Just the build up in anticipation that at some point in the near future, we are getting a new console reveal.

Re: Nintendo's Punch-Out!! Series May Be Dead And Buried For Good

UmbreonsPapa

I am all for removing stereotypes and making sure culturally insensitive material is removed or not put into a game. You will never see me argue that.

I will argue this particular story just sounds like hearsay or just barroom chit chat that isn't necessarily the truth or entirely accurate to what is going.

Like it was said in the article, developing a new one without those stereotypes is the obvious answer. I suspect Nintendo probably just don't see the audience for it. Though I like to think if you created a fun, exceptional experience, you might grow or develop an audience.

Re: Sega President Shuji Utsumi On Sonic The Hedgehog’s Next Major Outing

UmbreonsPapa

I know there are multiplaform games that maybe suggest otherwise. But I’ve always been of the mind that it’s hard not to see the correlation of Sonic going multiplatform and the series’ struggles. Granted, not every Mario has been a 10. But in general, the series has been good to top notch in comparison to others in its genre. It can’t be ignored that it helps to have the series tied to and focused to one family of consoles as opposed to the focus being spread over others.

Re: Random: Metroid Prime 3 Dev Left Retro Studios After "Unhealthy Relationship" With Nintendo Micromanagement

UmbreonsPapa

This is a tricky one to gauge. On one hand, being micromanaged sucks. I don’t dislike having someone in charge and having a broad idea of a direction. But I don’t need every direction or detail barked at me.

With that being said, this is Nintendo’s IP. They have every right to be as protective and particular about how it’s handled and presented. It’s also not like their way of doing things is or has ever been a secret. So I’m not sure what was expected in this case.

Re: The Legend Of Zelda: Echoes Of Wisdom Has Been Added To The Official Timeline

UmbreonsPapa

I've long since not taken the Zelda timeline seriously. I was a little off put by the split timeline(s) as it seemed to be completely unnecessary. But it is what it is.

With that being said, I've never been on board with the idea (that many follow) that these games (putting aside direct sequels) are retellings of the same story. I mean, I'd buy that if there weren't elements to each game that are significant to a specific game's plot. But how can you reconcile that WW is somehow a retelling of OoT, but all of a sudden, a huge flood is now part of the story? Same with Skyward Sword in comparison to any other game's story. One moment, they live in the sky and use birds to fly around. Now, a whole new telling of the story somehow loses that aspect?

Even some of our IRL fairy tales and myths, while having variations over the centuries, tend to be largely consistent in some major details. Even if some of those details might be interpreted or presented in different ways.

Re: Poll: What's The Best Power Rangers Game? Rate Your Favourites For Our Upcoming Ranking

UmbreonsPapa

@-wc- I'm a day one fan as well (I was 10 at the time), who kinda lapsed during the Disney era. But kinda picked back up with Samurai. I binged it all when it was on Netflix. So I'm all caught up.

I feel like the active fanbase either consists of those who watched from the beginning and grew up with it or fans who were kids and hopped on board in whatever seasons/eras were on at the time. I don't think I've met or interacted with a fan who was older and out of the blue decided to watch. Though I'm sure there's one or two of them out there somewhere. 😂

But to answer the question. I'd say the Genesis MMPR: The Movie is probably my favorite. I do like Battle for the Grid. Though I admit I get bored with fighting games real quickly. Also, I actually won a copy of the game from a Boom Comics Twitter contest. Otherwise, I'd probably wouldn't have bought it myself.

Personally, I would love to see a PR game in the vein of a big budget, third person 3D action game. Similar in scope to maybe the Arkham Asylum games.

Re: Tony Hawk's Pro Skater Socials Updated With 25th Anniversary Banner

UmbreonsPapa

@Ooyah It really was (or is if your still playing it in some way). THPS2 holds a special place in my heart. I had it for the Dreamcast (the first console I ever bought on my own). It was also probably our most played game of that period, maybe only rivaled by NFL Blitz 2000.

But 3 refined the formula. It came out during my first year of college. I didn't play it as much as 2 because of classes and other commitments. But I played it quite a bit. Was the peak of the series. At least IMO.

Re: Soapbox: The Next Pokémon Game Should Rework Old Critters, Not Just Add Dozens More

UmbreonsPapa

To be fair, Flamigo and Oinkologne are kind of hard to forget (at the moment), seeing as they come from the latest game that spawns Pokèmon in the overworld every second.

Also, I think regional variants are considered the same Pokèmon. Just a different form. Convergent lines like ToadscoolTentacool, DiglettWiglett, and SinesteaPoltchageist are the ones considered completely different species.

As for Pokèmon I feel are really forgettable, Heatmor comes to mind. Zeraora or most Mythical Pokèmon after maybe Victini?

Re: The Legend Of Zelda: Echoes Of Wisdom Box Art Has Been Revealed

UmbreonsPapa

@Anti-Matter Sure. It's fine if you played these types of games and come to the conclusion you don't like them. That's one thing. But to buy a game you know you don't care for? That just seems like a waste of time and money. Unless you're rolling in the dough. Then do whatever you please with your money. It just seems like a waste.

Re: Prince Of Persia: The Lost Crown Is Already On Sale (US)

UmbreonsPapa

This poses such an interesting discussion about the value of games and whether Ubisoft's constant discounting hurts their game's reputation. I say interesting because one of the more popular arguments within the gaming communities is not being tempted to buy games on day 1. Valuing the art of being patient. Waiting for a good round-up of reviews to make your decisions and, like in Ubisoft's case, waiting for that inevitable price drop.

Yet, some of the arguments go the other way. When the price of a Ubisoft game eventually drops, the argument then becomes how maybe they are making a mistake, shouldn't do it, and how it devalues their games.

@iaLgan Maybe you have the right idea, pricing the game at a lower price point at launch. But I'm sure there's probably some study in consumer psychology that supports releasing the game at a premium price, and then discounting it shortly after.

Re: Sony Lays Off 900 PlayStation Employees, Closes London Studio & Cancels Projects

UmbreonsPapa

@Setery That's exactly what I think it is. Of course, there are always going to be ebbs and flows in any kind of industry. But I've said it before. I think Nintendo, for better or worse, forecasted this moment, and it's a big part of why they made the choices they did. I mean, it was common sense that the industry just would not be able to sustain itself with the way things had been going.

What's even sad about the whole thing is that people are losing their jobs, and developers will scale back for a bit. Once things tick up, they'll start falling back into the same bad patterns, and we'll be back here again in a few years.

Re: Pokémon Legends: Z-A Announced, Coming To Switch In 2025

UmbreonsPapa

This was a surprising announcement. But exciting nonetheless. One, cause it's a new Pokémon game. Second, because it's adding some depth to a generation and region I thought was severely underwhelming.

Also, keep in mind Legends is being developed by a separate team from the main mainline titles. So I don't know if we can attribute what GF's main team does or doesn't do to this. Unless they've switched Legends or side mainline games development to their main team.

I also thought it seemed obvious that this is a Switch 2 game. Though I guess we have to wait and see what GF says or continues to not say on that front.
