It really isn't all that deep or serious that we need to write dissertations on why the hate for this game is unwarranted. I also don't think folks need to defend their enjoyment of the game. If you like the game, great.
I will say that if this is a case of the Switch version not being a great representative of what the game is, then Square Enix should have waited till it was or thought twice about releasing a Switch version if it would never reach those heights.
That doesn't mean I agree with blindly hating something or jumping on a hate bandwagon just because it's cool. I will always champion having some first-hand experience with something before giving it the thumbs down. But I don't know what one is to expect, especially if the Switch version is their only means of playing the game. At that point, the onus should be on Square Enix to have put out a better demo or not one at all.
@Anti-Matter I mean, the gameplay for both is remarkably different. Songs aside (and DDR has licensed music as well), the gameplay for both services two completely different ways to play a rhythm game.
So it's fine to have a preference on which game you prefer. But I don't think there is any comparison in terms of which one is better. They both serve two different audiences or methods of play
@Yosher I won't argue that the practice stinks. I've been burned by not cancelling in time with some of a handful of free trials a few times myself. But even before the email confirmation, most of these free trials ask for you to enter your credit card information ahead of time. There's also usually verbage at the time of signing up that explicitly tells you you will be charged whatever the subscription fee is after the trial is up. At least most of the free trials I've signed up for. So it's really no secret or a surprise.
So sure, it's a practice that you wish didn't exist. But at the same time, there is a level of personal responsibility to be had as well
For the few times I've had auto renewal kick in, it's really been just a matter of having forgotten to cancel before the trial end date. Now, I leave reminders in my phone calendar to cancel a day before.
I didn't get my N64 until spring of '97. My grandmother just surprised me with it one day after school. I didn't get a copy of Mario 64 until later. i did end up borrowing a friend's copy when he was done with it. But for a while, NBA Hangtime was my only game.
I also remember the Tickle Me Elmo craze. Its crazy thinking about it because my oldest daughter ended up getting Tickle Me, Elmo from someone as a gift (she was probably 2, 3. She's now 8). So it's been kinda kicking around the house. My youngest daughter plays with it every now and then. But not too long ago, the whole hysteria behind it back in '96 came to mind and we were watching the movie Jingle All the Way recently. I tried to convey to them the craziness that was Tickle Me, Elmo, and people trying to buy them. You really had to be there to understand how insane it was. I know folks have been known to go wacky during Black Friday sales. But for one specific product, I can't think of any moment like the Tickle Me Elmo craze.
I had some Gold Coins and bought it a few nights ago. Only played about 20 minutes in so far. But it's fun. Only SR experience was The Third on the 360. Never finished it. But had fun with that one as well
@Ryu_Niiyama I was gonna say the same thing. And I have two little ones running around and always feel I don't ever have enough time to play anything. Funny enough, when a tweet asked for people to post their year end stats, I noticed I was one of the higher end of the responses there as well. Makes me wonder if most of the people responding (and many of the NL staff here) also game on other consoles. I'm strictly a Switch gamer only because I really don't have the time or disposable money to support more than one console at one time. I've tried in the past and I just end up buying games I don't ever finish or even start
Edit: Probably should have shared my most played games.
1. Animal Crossing
2. Just Dance 2021
3. New Pokèmon Snap
This was a bit of shock. While I didn't watch regularly, I enjoyed the series whenever I did. And contrary to others, I never felt the two were disingenuous and seem to be real Nintendo enthusiast.
Of course they're games that I'm sure, those who care for Gold Points, probably already have. And why limit it to 5 games? Just really backwards decision making sometimes
I don't know why there's this pushback on acknowledging where the game takes inspiration from. It's quite obvious and it doesn't make it a bad thing. I just hope Sega can not go off the rails and make a decent 3D Sonic game
It's always strange when having discussions on Power Rangers with other older commenters. I mean, I've never stopped watching the series. I may have partially watched or outright skipped certain seasons. But I've manage to at least keep up with what's going on in the series. So what I end up noticing is that slot of the commentary on Power Rangers tends to be from those who may have only watched Might Morphin or at least up until In Space and nothing after or those who just (obviously understandably) outgrew the show. Some of the comments are accurate (on it's campiness and it's tendency to hire really green actors and actresses) or some not so (that anything after Might Morphin isn't worth watching). The franchise (at least the show) is geared towards kids, no doubt. But I can say at least there's has been and still is an honest attempt to celebrate older fans as well. It's a lot more than some other franchises do
Also, I would recommend, for those who haven't watched since the early years, to check out some of the much revered later seasons. There really are genuine attempts to go beyond the cheesiness that was
Lastly, for anyone looking for a PR related material that keeps the spirit of the franchise, but is much more indepth than and a bit more mature than the show, I can't recommend the Boom Comics series' enough. They have been a treat to read and IMO, a great way to reimagine a series without losing what makes it charming and paying off some stories and loose ends for long time fans
@-wc- In the second half of S2, Rita was deaged and played by a younger actress in the original American footage.
@KnightsTemplar I think her voice in the story mode was different from her voice as a fighter. At least that's what I'm gathering.
@eltomo This version of Rita seems to be modeled after how she's drawn in the comics.
@woodenbard Definitely for Zelda. There's just been a lot going around lately that screams some kind of announcement. Of course, it could all be nothing and that's fine too. Though I think we would all like more info
I gotta disagree with the idea that Ultimate can't be surpassed or that Nintendo needs to worry about anyone's feelings being hurt because their favorite character was cut. It's not like Nintendo hasn't found new ways to refresh its long-time franchises or cut characters and features before.
I just assumed this would be the case anyways. And not just a smaller roster. But a rebooted one as well You've already reached the pinnacle of this era of Smash. Why wouldn't you want to change it up?
@nocdaes I don't disagree the eshop app is a mess and a disappointment. However, I'm not sure how you can come to the conclusion that no one is buying games through it. Especially considering there are other avenues in discovering and purchasing games on it
Does anyone know if the update changed golden tools or tools in general to not break by some method? Or if there is some feature from Katrina that protects your tools from not breaking? I had her read my fortune the other day and she mentioned something really wacky about my tools being unbreakable. I was a bit taken a back and really didn't understand what she was going on about
My memory is usually shoddy about when I got a console. But I definitely remember when I got my Wii. I was in my second job, almost a year out of college and it was a well paying one. I had just moved back to Boston. It was late spring/early summer of 2007. I remember the Wii still being hard to find at that point. I was working on one of the upper floors of the Prudential Building (for those familiar with Boston, you'll know what I'm talking about) at what was then known as CSN Stores. People in the US will probably know it now as Wayfair.
Anyways, the shopping center on the first level (known as the Prudential Center) had a GameStop. So during my lunch break, I decided to stop in there. Much to my surprise, they had some in stock and I was not about to let my chance slip away. So I took the plunge. Bought the Wii, an extra Wiimote and Mario Strikers Charged. Was so pumped to had gotten one.
The only downside thing was I took the T (Boston's public transportation system) to and from work. So that evening, I had to take a 45 minute trip home with about $350.00 worth of merchandise on the train and bus. And it was a huge GameStop bag. So it was obvious what was probably in it. Most tense trip home of my life.
But just to give someone who was maybe to young or not gaming at the time an idea on how big the Wii got, my girlfriend at the time (now my wife) mother (now my MIL) had so much fun with the Wii she went out and got one of her own.
@victordamazio I feel like I've seen you (and maybe some others) make this argument numerous times on this site.
I'm not saying that to be confrontational or trying to pick a fight. But just trying to understand, for the regular Joe like myself, how would Mickey Mouse (cause he's the example I see brought u in this argument a lot) going into the public domain benefit the average person or I guess entertainment in general. I guess I'm under the impression that a content creator (and whomever they legally choose to make decisions once they're no longer in the picture) should choose how their work is used.
@sanderev Actually looking at the bag pictured above, I'm now realizing that this bag is completely different from the one I got from the US My Nintendo. This one definitely looks smaller than the one I have, which you could probably fit a decent size frozen turkey in just to give a frame of reference
Just had a bit of a chuckle at my original comment on this article. I ended up ordering the bag a year ago when it eventually became available here in the states. While it feels flimsy, it's still going strong and really comes in handy when needing a reusable bag for family outings
Thought the sale was so darn good, I picked up Breath of the Wild...for the second time. I sold it about two years ago after 250 hours. Definitely regretted it not long after. So this was a no brainer
Ocarina of Time holds a special place in my heart for what it did for the series and when it was released in relation to where I was in my life. Breath of the Wild is amazing and an experience like no other
But, for me personally, A Link to the Past remains Zelda at it's greatest. To this day, still a remarkable game to play. Even if I can play with my eyes closed at this point 😂
I guess I was under the impression this was still just a concept and not something this far along. Sucks and a bit baffling that it's not coming to the Switch immediately
I'll eventually get this as I haven't played these particular games since it was released and I am not wedded to the Platinum features (and to be honest, I don't recall if I ever even finished Platinum).
I'll wait to hear reviews from actual Pokemon fans and will probably wait til they're on sale, whenever that may be.
I got the creepy skeleton today in Nook's Cranny and had a bit of chuckle after being a bit surprised. Bought it and it's going in my area I'm setting up with the dormant volcano 😂
I'm only gonna add that a little transparency would have gone a long way. I am not gonna get into the arguments of difficulty and quality of the series. Valid points given on all fronts. But just on the Dexit issue alone, had they been transparent to start, it would have saved a lot of the furor and rage that occurred and continues to occur.
You would get no disagreement from me that some of the criticism goes beyond constructive and just plain blind rage, with no room to find the good in some of the stuff GF has put out.
Edit: By the way, I love the picture used for the article, lol
@Curator They don't even need to release DLC. With online trading, I haven't had the need for any additional games or consoles in God knows how long to get Pokèmon that isn't in whatever version I have.
I'm a huge fan of the franchise. I still think it does good things and things better than other games of it type. But I am on the train that two versions of the same game is completely unnecessary today. It's a relic that needs to be moved on from
@impurekind Why would you need to feel sorry for anyone? And maybe they do know what's beyond the Switch in terms of options, but chose the Switch for various other reasons. I'm one of those who spent the $300 and I don't regret it at all.
I've tried the game on both the Wii and the Switch. I at least gave it an honest try on the Switch. But ultimately, I realized it doesn't click with me. So I moved on and don't really see myself ever giving it another try.
Not defending this or the upcoming leak of information. But considering most people seem to think these are straight up remakes with little to no new content, it's not like we'll be in any danger of something being spoiled.
Edit Unless there is actually something new and noteworthy to keep from being spoiled
I know social media is a sore subject around these parts. But I follow a great Twitter account, amiibo alerts. They just tweeted there are some available on Amazon (here in the US). Was able to get one pack, in addition to having gotten 2 packs last week when they were available
Just Dance is an annual thing in our household. The kids love it and it ends up being not too expensive once it goes on sale close to the holidays (usually $25 or around that) and we trade in last year's game.
As for this year's game, a few the maps I've seen so far look to be really creative and fun
I'm surprised at how many people seem to feel the series should continue in it's current form or can't continue in any other form.
Personally, I think the series can continue and should evolve with a completely new entry. Not suggesting the wheel be completely reinvented. But you can softly reboot the franchise around it's core mechanics and spirit. Nintendo should treat ultimate like the franchises version of Avengers: Endgame and how it capped off Phase 3 and the Infinity Saga of the MCU. The culmination of it's first 20 years and then move the franchise forward to a new phase
It's become one of Nintendo's premier franchises. Not sure why there's this narrative as if it won't continue. We know it will. We also know it'll habe to rebooted in terms of roster and that should be expected. The only question then is who should return and who shouldn't and what Nintendo (characters that haven't been used) should get the nod
@BlueMonk Nintendo has already clarified you just lose access to the archipelago islands and the request to design a vacation home. You keep the features and items that come along with it.
Edit: I also point out maybe the ability to have the DLC as a rental is okay for some who try it out and find out they don't necessarily care for that mode, but still want the items and features associated with it. At the very least, you aren't saddled with content you don't plan on partaking in after getting what you want
It was only recently that I discovered you could customize some of these specialty items. I think I just assumed you had to buy or trade for different variations
I've already cleared some space for the new crops. Otherwise, a lot of the stuff coming is things that I don't necessarily need to do wholesale changes for. At least for me personally
@Bunkerneath I've read the article twice..read through everyone's comments and I still don't understand a lick of what NFTs or Blockchain gaming means. I guess I could go on a deep, Google dive to figure it out. But to be fair, sometimes it takes something being into practice for me to grasp the concept.
Like always, the comments are all over the place 😂
I don't know how prevalent or problematic some of these issues are. For some, it seems to be a real problem. For others, it isn't or haven't encountered any. But the most important thing is that these people actually are playing these games (or at least the NSO versions of these games) and giving us informed thoughts about it.
I also wish some commenters, who seem to be enraged about the service, would just be honest about how they were never gonna upgrade to this, no matter how good or how much value its perceived to have.
@Anti-Matter The article explains it in Nintendo's own words. If you get the DLC through the Expansion Pack, you are renting it or at least access to the archipelago islands and the ability to take request in designing homes. The stuff you unlock for your main island you get to keep. Of you buy it outright, you don't lose access to the archipelago portion and taking request to designing homes.
@ALinkttPresent I thought that would have been kind of obvious when they mentioned the prorated rate based on how much time you have left on your current membership. If it's based on the number of days you have left, then logic would tell you the less days you have left, the less the discount would be or am I missing something?
I'm not grabbing the expansion pack at the moment. It's not because I'm offended or aggrieved at the pricing. There's just nothing in either console I have a desire to upgrade for at the moment. Maybe when they add Waverace or 1080 or some other N64 and Sega Genesis games I haven't played on ages, I'll do it.

Re: Soapbox: In Defence Of Balan Wonderworld, 'The Worst Game Of 2021'

@Mikmoomamimocki You put it much more succinctly and probably much more accurately than I could have, lol
Re: UK Charts: Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Was Still On The Podium For Switch In The Holidays
@Anti-Matter I mean, the gameplay for both is remarkably different. Songs aside (and DDR has licensed music as well), the gameplay for both services two completely different ways to play a rhythm game.

@hadrian Obviously, you don't follow Anti-Matter's post. Is that supposed to be some kind of insult? WTF does that have to do with Just Dance and DDR?
Re: Free Switch Online Trials Are Available To My Nintendo Members (North America)
@Yosher I won't argue that the practice stinks. I've been burned by not cancelling in time with some of a handful of free trials a few times myself.
It's a relic that needs to be moved on from
Re: The Switch Is Here To Stay, Says Nintendo Boss Shuntaro Furukawa
@impurekind Why would you need to feel sorry for anyone? And maybe they do know what's beyond the Switch in terms of options, but chose the Switch for various other reasons. I'm one of those who spent the $300 and I don't regret it at all.
Re: Hideki Kamiya Says He Wants To Make An Okami Sequel "Someday"
I've tried the game on both the Wii and the Switch. I at least gave it an honest try on the Switch. But ultimately, I realized it doesn't click with me. So I moved on and don't really see myself ever giving it another try.
Re: Poll: Are You Enjoying Animal Crossing: New Horizons Version 2.0?
I am. I do wish I had better luck with my Nook's Cranny having new items for sale.
And I didn't bother saving up any Nook Miles. So I've just been doing little task to collect some
Re: Pokémon's Diamond & Pearl Remakes Aren't Out Until Nov 19th, But Some Seem To Already Be Playing Them
Not defending this or the upcoming leak of information. But considering most people seem to think these are straight up remakes with little to no new content, it's not like we'll be in any danger of something being spoiled.
Edit Unless there is actually something new and noteworthy to keep from being spoiled
Re: Animal Crossing's Sanrio And Series 5 amiibo Cards Are Now Available From My Nintendo UK
I know social media is a sore subject around these parts. But I follow a great Twitter account, amiibo alerts. They just tweeted there are some available on Amazon (here in the US). Was able to get one pack, in addition to having gotten 2 packs last week when they were available
Re: Just Dance 2022 Launches On Switch Today, Here's The Full Song List
Just Dance is an annual thing in our household. The kids love it and it ends up being not too expensive once it goes on sale close to the holidays (usually $25 or around that) and we trade in last year's game.
As for this year's game, a few the maps I've seen so far look to be really creative and fun
Re: Sakurai Says He's Not Thinking About A New Smash Bros. Game, But Won't Rule It Out
I'm surprised at how many people seem to feel the series should continue in it's current form or can't continue in any other form.
Re: Sakurai Says He's Not Thinking About A New Smash Bros. Game, But Won't Rule It Out
It's become one of Nintendo's premier franchises. Not sure why there's this narrative as if it won't continue. We know it will. We also know it'll habe to rebooted in terms of roster and that should be expected. The only question then is who should return and who shouldn't and what Nintendo (characters that haven't been used) should get the nod
Re: Soapbox: The Switch Online Expansion Pack Is Great Value – If You Love Animal Crossing
Re: Animal Crossing: New Horizons Adds Handheld Lanterns For A Limited Time
It was only recently that I discovered you could customize some of these specialty items. I think I just assumed you had to buy or trade for different variations
Re: Talking Point: Are You Preparing Your Island For The Animal Crossing: New Horizons Update?
I've already cleared some space for the new crops. Otherwise, a lot of the stuff coming is things that I don't necessarily need to do wholesale changes for. At least for me personally
Re: Ubisoft Wants To Be "One Of The Key Players" In Blockchain Gaming
@Bunkerneath I've read the article twice..read through everyone's comments and I still don't understand a lick of what NFTs or Blockchain gaming means. I guess I could go on a deep, Google dive to figure it out. But to be fair, sometimes it takes something being into practice for me to grasp the concept.
Re: Nintendo Switch Online's N64 Games Need Some Work
Like always, the comments are all over the place 😂
I don't know how prevalent or problematic some of these issues are. For some, it seems to be a real problem. For others, it isn't or haven't encountered any. But the most important thing is that these people actually are playing these games (or at least the NSO versions of these games) and giving us informed thoughts about it.
I also wish some commenters, who seem to be enraged about the service, would just be honest about how they were never gonna upgrade to this, no matter how good or how much value its perceived to have.
Re: Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack Price, Games And Features
@Anti-Matter The article explains it in Nintendo's own words. If you get the DLC through the Expansion Pack, you are renting it or at least access to the archipelago islands and the ability to take request in designing homes. The stuff you unlock for your main island you get to keep. Of you buy it outright, you don't lose access to the archipelago portion and taking request to designing homes.
Re: Nintendo Switch System Update 13.1.0 Is Now Live - Adds The Switch Online Expansion Pack
@ALinkttPresent I thought that would have been kind of obvious when they mentioned the prorated rate based on how much time you have left on your current membership. If it's based on the number of days you have left, then logic would tell you the less days you have left, the less the discount would be or am I missing something?
Re: Poll: N64 And Sega Genesis Nintendo Switch Online Games Launch Today - Which Will You Play First?
@SlimPieEats That's another reason I'm in no rush to upgrade
Re: Poll: N64 And Sega Genesis Nintendo Switch Online Games Launch Today - Which Will You Play First?
I'm not grabbing the expansion pack at the moment. It's not because I'm offended or aggrieved at the pricing. There's just nothing in either console I have a desire to upgrade for at the moment. Maybe when they add Waverace or 1080 or some other N64 and Sega Genesis games I haven't played on ages, I'll do it.
